How do I print column letters/row numbers in Numbers?

In '08 someone asked about printing row numbers and column letters in a Numbers SS. The answer: take a snapshot (CMD-SFT-4) or use Excel.
I am using iWork09; the problem continues with it. Has this flaw been fixed in later versions of iWorks? When I print the spreadsheet and a formula sheet, the formula sheet is pretty worthless if the spreadsheet has no colum/row identifiers. So much for having someone else audit my formula work.

Supply the auditor with a copy of the file, rather than a printed copy of the document. If she needs a printed copy of the formula list, that's easy to obtain from the file. When she clicks on a cell containing a formula, Numbers colour-codes the cell references and highlights the referenced cells with those colours.
Use Header Row and Header column cells to label each column and row. Set Numbers preferences to use these labels in the formulas to name the referenced cells.
Add a column to the left of the table to contain row numbers, and a row to the top to contain column letters. The row numbers are easy to generate with a simple formula; the column letters require a little more thought, especially for those past column 26 (Z, followed by AA), but it's doable.
Use the suggestion (auxiliary tables) suggested above by Wayne.
Two other suggestions:
First, if this feature is, in your estimation, a significant flaw in Numbers, send feedback to Apple requesting it be included in a future version of numbers. Use the Provide Numbers Feedback item in the Numbers menu, or the link in this message—both go to the same place.
Second, Use the application that best meets your needs, whichever application that turns out to be.

How do I lock columns and rows in numbers?

I have a large spreadsheet and I want to scroll up, down, left and right without the need to go up and down to find the name of the column or row where the information goes into.
In Excel you lock a column or row just as easy but in numbers I have looked everywhere and don´t find an answer to this (otherwise) simple procedure.

Hi Laura,
The commands you are looking for are "Freeze Header Rows" and "Freeze Header Columns", both found in the Table menu.
To use them, you must first convert the rows and columns you want to keep visible as Header Rows and Header Columns. You can define up to five of each. Rows must be at the top of the table and columns at the left, and multiple header rows/columns must be contiguous.
Be aware that the conversion is not (easily) reversable, and that multiple headers (and footer rows) tend to slow large tables significantly.
To convert an eligible row, hover the mouse over the row reference tab, then click the triangle when it appears. If the row is eligible for conversion (ie. if it is the top non-header row on the table, and is in the top five rows), you will see the option to "Convert to Header Row, seen below for row 2:.

How do I lock columns or rows from change

I want to keep a couple of columns from changing.
This is to prevent inadvertent changes in passwords or user Id.
How do i do that.

Numbers allows you to lock a whole table but individual cells. This means that it is best to design, upfront, your data so that user input data is in one table and calculations are in other tables (which you can lock). There is no facility for login access by user. There is the ability to lock a document using the document inspector:
See the last section. This is single password for the whole document.
You can post suggestions to Apple directly using the menu item "Numbers > Provide Numbers Feedback"

You should see it on the Dock, in Mission Control or be able to open it by typing Preview in Spotlight.
It usually is the application that opens when you click on any image file or pdf.
Just follow my instructions, copy and paste or drag and drop from Finder.
You don't open the pdf, opening is for .pages, .doc, rtf or txt files that Pages can open as word processing files.
You can alternatively:
Menu > Insert > Choose… > browse to your pdf
But the other methods are faster and easier.

How do you print a monthly calendar showing week numbers?

Is there a way to display and the print the week numbers in the monthly view in iCal. I can get the calendar to start on the first day of the wekk, Monday, but I can not find any way to show the week numbers in a column to the left of the Monday column.

Roger is right. You'll have to subscribe to a week numbering calendar in order to see week numbers. I've done this and can confirm that they show when printed.

If you click the table icon in the toolbar, a Table will be added to your document at the current cursor position, and that table will have 4 columns and 5 rows. That seems to be what you are asking for, and it's easy to do, so there must be more to your question that I'm not getting. Could you elaborate?

I used to be able to print all of my contacts including phone numbers etc from iCloud. Since all the upgrades I can not do this. I used to be able to change the display by clicking on a ribbon at the top then clicking the gear to have it print. No ribbon any more and no way to change the display. Thanks again Ferd. I looked up equivalent of command key on Dell keybrd. It is Windows insignia, however that didn't work. I selected all with the pop up menu by right clicking, which accomplished the same thing, however when I tried to print, it would only print out a couple of names per page and no add'l info. I stopped the printer and tried manually highlighting and selecting all with the same printing result. I finally gave in and called Apple support. After explaining my problem, while I was on hold, I thought I would try the process using Google browser instead of I.E. Guess what, IT WORKED!! All that hassle because of Internet Explorer. I now can print (or print to .pdf file to save) any time. I do appreciate your input that would have worked with the interpretation of the command key had I not used IE. live and learn. :-)

Freeze columns and rows easily

I am new to numbers and although I had some difficulties, I have yet to freeze columns and rows in a simple way as in excel. I need to find a tool to focus titles without merging cells, this is something like "Center Across Selection". There is this tool? How I can actually freeze columns and rows easily?

Numbers automatically repeats the column headers when you are in "Page View". To enable page view select the menu item "View > Show Print View".
There is no center across selection. You can add a text box which you place in front of your table that is as wide as the group of cells you wish to centered on, with the text formatted so it is centered.
I left the text box above the table, but you should move on top of like:

While we all wait for Apple to put this feature back in another update of Numbers 3, try this:
You want to sort rows 11-14 (as an example). Add a Colour Fill to row 15 as a guide for later.
Select rows 11-14. Click and *hold* on any Row Reference Tab. You will see the selected rows appear to 'lift'. Drag those rows away from Table 1 to a blank part of the 'canvas':
and they will form a new table. Sort this table.
Then select all rows of Table 2, and Copy.
Click on Table 1. Select the colour filled row where you want to insert (row showing 23 Jun 2013 in this example).
Menu > Insert > Copied Rows.
Not as easy as Numbers 2.3 Reorganize Panel, but a workaround.
If you frequently resort the same rows, consider placing them in their own table.

Print Row Numbers and Column Letters

How do you tell Numbers to print the Row numbers and Column letters? This was very simple in Appleworks (print dialog box had that option). Can't find it in Numbers though.

Here is a script doing all the job for us.
Just select one or several cells in a table and run the script.
It duplicates it, add an header row, an header column, insert the needed labels and fill the other cells with a formula grabbing the contents of the original table.
