How do I properly setup pin and gate swap groups on new components?
Hi,
I've looked for some documentation explaining exactly how the pin and gate swap functionality works but I have not been successful.
I am trying to get pin and gate swapping working correctly on some digital logic components that I have created (side question - why no modern 74 series logic components like LVC?) as well as RPACKS and some connectors.
Is it a requirement to create a multi-section symbol to enable gate swapping? I can't seem to get it to work unless the symbol has multiple sections. It doesn't work by default for the RPACKs included in Multisim. If it's possible to do gate swapping by putting the pins of each gate in their own gate swap group I would really like to understand what I'm doing wrong.
In the Component Properties 'Footprint' tab you can define the 'Pin swap group' and 'Gate swap group' settings. I have not seen any documentation explaining this and frankly, I'm quite confused by it when using existing 74 series parts as examples. The single section symbols don't have any pin swap or gate swap groups defined and the multisection symbols have only one gate swap group and then put all inputs in one pin swap group and all outputs in another pin swap group.
I would really appreciate it if someone could point me to documentation that explains how to do this. The help files are quite poor in my opinion - they seem to only be able to point out the obvious. The 'Getting Started,' 'Fundamentals,' etc. type guides don't mention this stuff at all. The 'User Guide/Manual' (both of which appear to be outdated?) do not explain this and frankly don't have very much information about pin and gate swapping at all.
I'm hoping I'm just missing something obvious.
On a related note - I'm having some trouble working with some of these multisection components. When I want to change the footprint or update the component after making a change to the component in the database I can't seem to find a quick way to do this. It seems that I always have to go through a drawn out process of 'Replacing' each individual symbol section. Is there a faster way to do this?

Hi Pat,
I'm working with some SAMTEC connectors. I don't expect you guys to have these built by default in the library - they are somewhat custom. But just so you can consider it, we are using the TFM and T2M family of connectors and I'm adding them as additional footprints for the standard dual row headers. I'm having some trouble with the footprint for the TFM screw-down option since it is a very odd footprint, but I'm going to start a seperate thread discussion for that since I really just need to understand how to manipulate Ultiboard to get the desired result and it's really a different discussion.
As for RPACKs, I'm a little confused about how Multisim currently supports these. The Value tab in the properties dialog only lets you set the resistance. Why isn't this more like the resistor value tab? Since the Value tab is modified like a virtual component it's disappointing that it doesn't offer more capability like the other virtual passives. In my limited experience I've seen the isolated-4 resistor pack used the most, but like I said, that is limited experience. It would be nice if some surface mount footprints were added to the master database for RPACKs in the future. 4x0402, 4x0603, and 4x0805, concave and convex, seem like pretty common footprints as best I can tell.
Virtual components work great in a purely physical design because you can easily change the footprint in the 'Value' property tab. With the provided RPACKs and LEDs you can't do that, so I had to create new components in the User/Corporate database. Of course, the LED can't be copied so I had to create it from scratch. But the RPACK could be copied even though it had a modified Value tab, implying it is a virtual component, if I understand correctly. Maybe these distinctions and limitations are well defined but I found it somewhat confusing that there were several common parts I had to either copy and modify or build from scratch.
Since I created those parts, we updated to the PowerPro version and though I'm not certain, I think I can change the footprint in the spreadsheet view. But in the standard version, I didn't see a way to change the footprint without replacing the component.
Also, it seems like changing the footprint does not behave quite like I would expect. If I have a database part which has multiple footprints mapped already, I would expect to be able to choose between those footprints already supported by the database part when I try to change the footprint using the Properties->Value tab or the spreadsheet view. If I need to change to a footprint that currently is not associated with the component in the database, I would expect to have to edit the database part, add the footprint, map the pins, re-save the component, then update the component in the schematic.
Is my thought process making too many assumptions here? I understand that I am one person creating one design in one specific way. So I'm sure I'm missing some usage cases or intended uses of the tool, especially since I haven't taken any training for this software and have tried to teach myself how to use it over the last 9 months. And I have noticed that even for virtual resistors and capacitors, the footprint selection dialog is the same - a selection from the database and setting up a new pin mapping.
As for 74 series parts, seeing the LVC family would be very nice. This is 3.3V-2.5V and seems like the next logical step for lower voltage support. It would also be nice to see some surface mount footprints with the 74 series parts. This isn't a big deal though - it didn't take me long to create the parts I needed by copying and editing from the Master database. And since I'm not using the simulation models, that made it even easier. Since I haven't looked into the models at all, I don't know if that would have taken longer to convert to the LVC family.

Very simple. Turn off Find my iDevice, then Tap Settings, General, Erase, Erase all content and settings.

The pinned and unpinned pages on the "new tab" page are glitchy as hell.
When I try to move ANY of the pinned of unpinned pages on the "new tab" page, all of them go off their grid and move spastically as I try to pin a page to a certain spot. It's really hard to describe. I already opened and closed firefox, but that didn't solve the problem. Hell, I even updated Firefox with the most recent update, but it's still doing it. I managed to get my tabs where I want them, but if I want to add another it's going to be nearly impossible because the bottom line of the grid is completely beyond reach.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:

How can I copy my ratings and play count to my new computer?
I am reformatting my computer. Currently all my iTunes songs are saved in the typical iTunes music folder. I also have all my songs backed up on my external hard drive. I really really do not want to lose all my play counts and ratings as that is what a lot of my playlists have been created from. How can I save these settings and transfer them to my reformatted computer?

It works the same way as transferring photos or any other content. Copy the folders from the old computer to a flash drive or an external HD, and then from the drive to the new computer. -
How do I execute a Drag-and-Drop restore onto a new HD
Ok, so...
While I was backing up my HD with Time Capsule the other day, it started to fail (yes, irony abounds).
So, I have a great repair shop trying to recover my data and I did get a new HD and clean install of Lion (what I was using before the failure), but I don't have a complete Time Capsule backup.
What I do have is an older drag-and-drop copy of my User folder and almost all of my apps, but I am not sure in what order to do the following and if I am missing any steps:
1. Run Software Update
2. Drag my old User Folder over (and if I should so this as one big drop or piece by piece).
3. Update Apps
Is there something I am missing?

How do I properly setup an Extreme (802.11 n) + Express wired Network
Hello,
I have been trying to make my setup work properly for weeks now with little success. I have spoken to multiple IT professionals as well as apple care to get this working properly but to no avail. Here's my goal, I would like to have an airport network that reaches both my office upstairs and my wifes office downstairs. I would like to be able to share internet, files, and print throughout the network.
We have:
1 new Airport Extreme (802.11n)
2 new Airport Express
1 ATT micro Cell
2 Belkin 1000mbs AC power adapters
1 MacMini
1 iMac
1 Mac Book Pro
2 iPhones (1 3Gs, 1 4g)
The current and best working setup is as follows:
The cable modem in my office is connected to the Airport Extreme. I have the Belkin AC adapter connected in my office to one of the Airport Extreme's Ethernet connectors then directly to the closest wall outlet. Downstairs I have the other Belkin AC adapter connected directly to the closest wall outlet to our ATT Micro Cell. (Micro Cell must be near a window for GPS service). All the lights on the Belkin are blue which says that it is communicating at least over 100mbs.
The Belkin is connected to the Micro Cell via Ethernet and the Micro Cell works just fine. (unless ATTs server goes down and then it losses connection but thats another discussion).
I then have an Airport Express connected to the "Computer" Ethernet jack on the back of the Micro Cell. This is supposed to pass the network connection through the Micro Cell to a router. This downstairs Airport Express is setup in Bridge mode and should be working with the Extreme upstairs to provide DHCP. I have a separate WiFi network for the downstairs network. The two airports are also setup on different channels.
The other Airport Express is connected to my Slingbox and is only being used as an adapter. (it seems to work fine).
The problem:
Both networks broadcasts without a problem and I am able to connect all of my devices to either network. The problem occurs when I switch from one Airport to the other with my iPhone or with my Mac Book Pro. The device will connect to the network but when it connects back to the downstairs network it does not receive an IP address. I literally have to shutdown and restart the entire network to get it to assign another IP via DHCP.
I have been on the phone for hours with apple care and some IT professionals but with little success. The apple care people told me to "extend the network" but when I do that the Airport Express never works and the network is completely lost. I think this is because I am trying to use a wired connection and not a wireless one (I thought of using a crossover cable but havent tried that yet). I have swithced to every channel I can think of. I have tried running the express to assign a limited range of addresses but it gives me the error that I have two DHCP servers on the network and will not provide an internet connection. I have also reset everything about 20 times. I'm sure I have done other things to get this to work but I cant remember them all. Also I just recently updated everything to the latest firmware but that has only made it so I cant print over the network (bummer for another discussion).
Any suggestions? Sorry for the long description.
THANKS!Can you clarify if you can set up a "roaming" network with all Apple AirPorts using the same wireless network name, security and password? Then devices will be able to "roam" from one area to another without having to change networks. The computer or iPhone will pick up the wireless signal from the strongest wireless access point, which will usually be the device that is closest at the time.
Rather than trying to use the AT&T device as a "pass through", which I suspect is causing some issues, you need to install a simple 5 port ethernet switch at the end of the ethernet cable from the AirPort Extreme, then run a short ethernet cable from the switch to the AT&T device and another short ethernet cable to the AirPort Express.
Post back if you need more details. I have an AirPort Extreme connected to two other Airports by ethernet in a "roaming" network and it has performed flawlessly for years.
