How do I read a Premiere 6 project file?

I had Premiere 6 on an old Mac a few years ago, and created a project using footage of an event from two MiniDV cameras, one stationary and one mobile. Edited them together into a seamless video using the stationary footage as my base and cutting to the mobile (video only) when it had a better shot. But I never printed this project to video.
That old Mac is now gone, and my new one won't run Premiere 6. I have a copy of Final Cut Express and would like to recreate my project in it (still have all the source clips). I figure that I should be able to take the in and out points listed in the Premiere project file and use them to quickly set up the same timeline in an FCE project that I had in my Premiere project, but I haven't been able to figure out that information when reading my project file in a text editor.
Does anyone have a resource for interpreting the contents of a Premiere project file?
Thanks,
Paul

Paul,
The Project file (PROJ, IIRC, though probably without that actual file extension on the Mac) is XML with links to the media, and then instructions for Premiere. Actually "reading" and making much sense out of it, will be difficult, but you should be able to Open it in most document viewers. On a PC, one can use NotePad, but as the fiile will not have a recognized file format, one must use the All Files dropdown. Not sure about Mac document readers, but it should be the same, or very similar.
Now, and likely not of much use to you, those old Project files can be Opened in later versions, but with limitations. As Pr 6.5 was the last version that was X-platform, until CS3, there is a big gap (Pr 7.0/PrPro 1.0 and PrPro 2.0), and IIRC, Mac CS3 of PrPro could not Open the old versions. The workaround was to befriend a PrPro PC CS3 user, who could Open the old version, and then just Save to a CS3 PRPROJ file, that later Mav versions could handle. Several later Mac users, had to use that workaround, and at the same time, also made friends with some PC users. Not sure if there are any newer workarounds.
Also, I cannot recall when Adobe added more support for going from/to FCP and PrPro, but I doubt that even if you had Mac Pr 6.0, it would offer many useful options. Others will have to fill in the blanks there.
Wish that I had more to offer, but my exploration of older Pr Mac Project files was limited to Opening them in PrPro 2.0 on my PC. Most Opened just fine, with but a few minor exceptions (some Transitions failed to translate, as did a few 3rd party Effects. PrPro was kind enough to point those out, and even give me the TimeCode, plus the name of the missing Transitions, and Effects. That does not help you though.
Good luck, and maybe you will be better at reading those XML instructions, than I  have been. Other than finding missing/broken links to Assets, it all looks like Greek to me.

  • How can I export a selection as premiere PROJECT FILE to edit in another project....?

Wondering if anyone else has come across this issue....I must of hit an awful evil key because for the third time deep into an edit I traced back to my intro to find most of the audio pulled a Houdini on me and disappeared.
I've been through a tough edit, it's not as simple to just go back into my bins and recollect the clips to create my intro.
Luckily I found the exact intro I need in an auto-saved project file. Copy and pasting obviously does not transfer through project file changes, there is an option to "Export as Premiere Project File" under File, however after marking specific in and out marks and even selecting all clips I want to export, my option tool remains gray and inaccessible.
I need to export these specific clips as a project file so I may import the file as a sequence to a larger project.
    Help?
Thank you so much in advance for your time and feedback.

Have you tried importing the sequence through the Media Browser?  To do so, browse to the backup of your project and double-click it. That will show you all the contents of the project. You can then drag the sequence into your working project.

How to open your Photoshop Touch project file in Photoshop
When your files are stored in the Creative Cloud, you can access them on your mobile device using Adobe Photoshop Touch, or on your desktop computer using Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop Touch can open files in the following formats: PSD*, PSDX, PNG, JPG, and GIF. And, with a free plug-in for Photoshop CS5, CS5.1, and CS6 you can open the PSDX files created by Photoshop Touch in Photoshop.
[Note: PSD files can only be opened via the Adobe Creative Cloud. The file is converted,  layers are flattened to a single layer, and  other info that is only supported in Photoshop is removed.]
Download the plug-in (if you have CS6, skip this section)
    1. If you have CS5 and CS5.1, you are required to download a plug-in to be able to open your PSDX files in Photoshop. If you have CS6, you are not required to download the plug-in (it is native within the version). In a browser on your desktop computer, navigate to the Creative Cloud Homepage ( https://creative.adobe.com ). Sign-in to Creative Cloud using your Adobe ID, then navigate to the Creative Cloud Apps & Services page (https://creative.adobe.com/apps).
    2. Click download under “Touch App Plug-ins” to start the download and install process. Included with the installer is a plug-in for Illustrator CS6, which enables opening of Ideas files (.idea) in Illustrator, and a plug-in for Photoshop CS5 and 5.1, which enables opening of Photoshop Touch files (.psdx) in Photoshop.
    3. You will be asked (if you haven't already) to install the Adobe Application Manager. Follow the steps to install the manager, and the Touch App Plugin should begin the download and installation process. If it does not, click install next to the “Touch App Plugins” icon in the Adobe Application Manager to start the process.
    4. You're all set to start opening your PS Touch files in Photoshop CS6.
To save a Photoshop Touch file for upload to the cloud.
    1. Launch Photoshop Touch and ensure that you are in the organizer view. (Tap Done in the upper-left corner of the screen to move from edit view to the organizer view.)
    2. Tap to display the share menu.
    3. Select the file(s) to upload
    4. Select the file format to upload to the cloud. Then tap OK.
    5. Once you save the file format, you have a choice to e-mail the file as a attachment, or save a copy. By pressing cancel, it still can be uploaded to the cloud.

    1. On your desktop computer, launch a browser and navigate to the Creative Cloud website. When you are signed in, navigate to your Photoshop Touch file. Click to select the file.
    2. Tap the download button in the top right corner.
    3. When the download dialog button pops up, select PSD. Once the file has been downloaded, you can open in Photoshop (CS5, CS5.1, CS6) on your desktop.
    4. When the file is opened in Photoshop, it displays its layers (Note: that if the file is dragged and dropped, and NOT downloaded, it will not display the layers).

Lightroom 5.3 should be able to open D600 RAW photos.
The problem is most likely that you used some version of Nikon software to transfer the photos to your computer. This interferes with Lightroom's ability to read the files. If the files are still on your camera card, use Lightroom to directly access them from the camera card. If they are not on your camera card, you can still fix the files, see http://forums.adobe.com/message/6181267#6181267

Open the XML file and the default program should open it automatically.  If you are prompted to select a program, use the option that lets you choose a program and brows through the directories for your browser (for example, use Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.).
If need be, you should be able to right-click the file and select open with to choose the program to open it with.

  • How to transfer and use the project files from Premiere Pro cs6 MAC OS to Premiere Pro CS6 Windows

Is there any plugin or tool that can help me to transfer my project files along data edited on adobe premiere cs6 MAC OS to the adobe premiere pro cs 6 on windows PC

When transferring a project from one computer to another,to stop errors such as these, its essential to ensure that the project is copied with all the files and folders in exactly the same locations. Also before opening the project on the new computer, you need to set up a new project and set all the preferences to be exactly the same as on the first computer. Then when you open the project, premiere will find all the files in all the right places. Even then you may need to re-link some files. Just follow the prompts when Premiere asks "Where is file...."
We use USB hard drives to store students projects on and they are used on many different computers without problems, as the preferences are all set to be the same.

  • Any way to prevent dupes in Premiere Project file?

Due to working with both PluralEyes as well as multiple editors on the same project, I deal with importing a lot of XML and PRPROJ files into existing project files that I've worked with.
This, on a large scale, becomes untenable because every time I import another editor's work or a synced sequence, I get duplicates of all my media in the project. I'm trying to figure out if there any way to have Premiere check to see if the media is already imported, and reference that media in the imported sequence? If not, I will just keep getting larger and larger project files with multiple references to the same media, because both me and my other editors are working with the same media, but for different sequences.
As far as I can tell, when you import an XML, or even a sequence from another Premiere project, it creates new master clips for every clip used in the imported sequence. It does not recognize that you may already have a master clip that you're using in another sequence that is referring to the same media.
So if you want to keep both sequences in your project, you need to keep both master clips. If you delete a master clip from your bin, it will not stay in the sequence(s) that refer to it, it will get cut out, leaving a big steaming crater where it once was. Even if the sequence is not currently open. This is one of the things I loved about FCP7. You could delete every single one of your master clips and your sequence would be totally unaffected. You could even recreate the master clips by dragging them from your sequence to the bin.
I think if there really is no way to manage these duplicates, this is a HUGE problem for professionals who are working in environments with multiple editors. This isn't just a "well, learn how to deal with a new editing system" - this is actually a deal-breaker; and actually the only one that I see REALLY preventing Premiere from being the go-to choice for larger post houses. This problem becomes so big so fast that it makes true collaborative editing downright impossible. In my office we might have three people on a project, all editing and revising segments and passing them back and forth. On FCP7 this was easy as pie - we'd just cut and paste between project files and use basic versioning best practices. In Premiere, our project files quickly become nightmares and work is often inadvertently deleted or lost.
    I would like to see:
    - Smart media handling when importing sequences and projects. Premiere should look at the filenames and file location and attempt to relink any duplicate media. If it stumbles, it should ask for help like FCP.
    - A media consolidation inspection feature. I'd love to see an option for inspecting your project for duplicate media references. When found, Premiere should automatically consolidate.
    - Streamlined sequence exporting. You should be able to export a single sequence. I know there's some version of this in Project Manager, but we all know it should be easier than this!
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

    *******Enhancement / FMR*********
Brief title for your desired feature:
Link Master Clips to media on drives, not to sequences.
How would you like the feature to work?
"The selection you are deleting contains clip references in one or more sequences. If you continue these clip references will all be deleted. Do you want to continue?"  In short, I never want to see this warning again. I *need* to be able to delete master clips from my project without having media deleted out of sequences.
Why is this feature important to you?
Editors need to stay organized from the beginning. Professional editors don’t edit birthday parties; we often have large quantities of different kinds of media, need to know where it is, need to access it quickly, and don’t need unnecessary things in the way.
Organization exists in one place: the project panel.  The less that’s in the project panel, the smaller the project file size is, the faster the project file opens, closes and saves, but most importantly: the easier it is to find what you need, fast.
The reasons for working in multiple project files are endless. When you import a seq from another project, you also get the clips used in it. Often times these clips are already present in the project, which is why you now include a “don’t allow duplicates” checkbox in your import dialogue box (which btw doesn’t work when we’re working with Merged Clips painstakingly built in other project files).
While you might fix that Merged Clips bug, I still don’t know why you won’t just let me clean stuff up myself. Why are you trying to save me from myself? I know where my media is and Premiere knows where my media is: on my drive.
A professional editing program should not try to save people from themselves. It’s why I left FCP for you. You have a great, powerful suite of programs (that I’d pay a lot more for than I do now btw)… but I need to stay organized, not be unnecessarily prevented from doing so.
Please listen to us and make this fix.

  • How to change default value in "Project file" dialog

I'm new to Labview, and I've encountered an example with a dialog that allows to define a path to a file.  If I open the properties on the block diagram of this block the name of the block appears to be "Path Properties: Project file:"   The default value points to a different place than where the file installed and the VI won't run untiI I change the path.  If I save and open the file, it doesn't remember the change.  When the vi is running I can right click the text and there is an option to reinitialize to default.  I've rooted around all over the place and can't find where this can be set or changed.  How do I change this?

On the front panel, change the control to the desired value.
Now, right click on the control, select Data Operations and Make Current Value Default.

  • Preventing Premiere Project files from being modified

I'm creating a batch of Premiere Pro CC Projects for trainees in my work environment to help them learn the application.  I'm trying to lock the project files so they always start out in the same state I left them.  I don't want the students to open the projects, work in them, then accidentally hit "SAVE" before closing out, thereby modifying them, preventing the next student who opens them from having the same clean slate the first one had.
I'm working in MAC OSX.  I've tried locking the file in "GET INFO", and I've tried changing Privileges from "read & write" to "read" only for all fields.  This works on the computer on which I created the projects, but the locks and privilege changes are gone when I copy the projects to students machines, email them or otherwise transport them off the original machine.  It's not practical to go to each students machine and manually relock and change privelages there.  These projects have to be distributed to many Macs in many locations.
Is there a way to accomplish what I'm describing?  Thanks.

I don't believe this is possible.  PP doesn't have a lock file feature like Acrobat.  The general assumption is that you're opening the file because you want to make changes.
The best you might do is to overwrite the closed files with the original at the end of every session.

For that I need to read and store mathematical equations/ chemistry formulas from .PMD file into database then display on the browser page.

    Any existing examples for C#.NET?
    Please help me regarding this.

I can't claim to know much about visual C# Net, but I do know a bit about pagemaker. It really can't handle equations. there are a few work arounds involving things like baseline shifts and multiple text boxes, but generally equations were created in different programs and placed in pagemaker in picture or eps files. Either way the chances of extracting usable data out of pagemaker is very slim.

What is the model number of the Reader Digital Book?
The Reader supports the text file (.txt) formats as well as the following two formats:
    - EPUB file (.epub) EPUB (OPS version 2.0) supported
    - PDF file (.pdf) Support is based on the PDF 1.6 specification.
The default language setting on your Reader Digital Book does not affect the language the book is in. To read books in a foreign language, you will have to purchase them specifically in that language.
