How do I restore my apps from iPhone 3 to iPhone 4 if I didn't back up the iPhone 3 before the installation of the new phone?

Ok, I need serious help here. My husband had a iPhone 3 that he hadn't updated in ages and then I bought him an iPhone 4 and we simply plugged that into the computer (the iPhone 4) and voila NOTHING transferred over. Now when we plug the iPhone 3 into the computer it doesn't sync or anything? Is there any way we can transfer his apps over to his new phone? Please help!

The iPhone is designed to be synced with a computer on a regular basis.
If this is done, all content that is on the device will be on the computer it syncs with.
Simply plug in the new iPhone and manage what syncs to it.

If you got it by download and are still using the same Apple_ID, it is still sitting on Apple's Mac App store for re-download whenever necessary, such as after you wipe your computer.

How can I restore my iPad from an encrypted backup if I didn't put a password on it?

I went to back up my iPad two days ago just as I have several times prior. Low and behold, it asks me for a password of which I have no knowledge of EVER putting one in. So I called Apple support. The "genius" (and I use that word loosely) told me I had to reset my ipad as a "new" ipad in iTunes, then use an older backup to restore my data. All went fine until the iPad restarted and immediately began doing a backup to the iCloud. I proceed to try to restore my data. Only 1 older backup shows up in the list, which is the one I did right before resetting the iPad, BUT, it is encrypted. So now I have an ipad that USED to have a years worth of appointments and schedule that is now empty. I went to the local Apple store and the "Genius" there skated around the issue for an hour because he didn't have a clue how to get my calendar restored. He finally, as he was wrapping up, gave me the web address to the Expresslane.apple.com folks and told me that they would help me. I followed the links that he told me to and right before It said someone would call me, They asked for $19.99 first, even though the local genius told me there would be no charge since he was referring me to them. This is my first and last Apple product as I will be looking for a more reliable substitute.

If you forgot your encryption password:
Warning: Make sure it's a password you will remember or write it down for safekeeping. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you can't restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and chooseset up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.

There's Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant. The cleanest way to do it is Setup Assistant, but you only get that option once when you fire up a fresh install of OSX. If you're past that, you could reinstall OSX by booting with Command-R, or you could use Migration Assistant.

Are you using Photostream? If yes, then you will be able to see your 1000 most recent photos on your Mac in iPhoto.
All your contacts, calendar events, emails, etc. will still be on your Mac as part of iCloud.
If you didn't import your videos from your iPhone to your Mac, then you've lost them unless you can restore your cloud backup to another iOS device.

I am an IT in a government office who just switched our fleet to iPhones. We are not permitted to use certains apps that are either not in our data contract, touch the Cloud, or cause cost/personnel issues. Those items I try to corral in a folder "Unusable Apps" on a separate page where the user has little eye contact with them (outta sight outta mind right). I go through the motions of turning off every notification, update, share feature, etc. I can find but the icons are still on the phone. download the new you tube apps in i tunes, in os6 just pick a video in the photos apps and select share, the old you tube app icon will appear

They are not taking up storage space. Apple knows you installed them at one time (="purchased", whether you paid money or not), and merely keeps a list so that if you wish to reinstall any of them on this or a future device, you can. This is useful if maybe you deleted them due to space constraints, and now have a device with more memory and wish to reinstall.
It's also useful for taking a trip down Memory Lane looking at all the useless apps you installed once then immediately deleted once you realized they were total garbage ...

When syncing you receive a warning that you are about to remove all content from your iphone (device)!!! I don't/can't have this happen!! I have the music and calenders etc on iCloud but the Apps don't get stored there (as far as I'm aware).
Should I de-register the old PC first? Will that then signal iTunes that this is OK to syc the apps with the new??
