How do I return Labview errors from a LV executable when calling from another application?

I'm calling a third party executable under WindowsXP. The program returns an exit code when complete. I tried Sys Exec VI, but the 'return code' field does not seem to grab the exit code. Help.

Although I am not fully verse in this subject, I have to disagree because of previous experiences I had.
You can write executables that return "exit codes". For example, in C++ you can use the function exit(). The syntax of the function is:

"status" is provided for the calling process as the exit status of the process. Typically a value of 0 is used to indicate a normal exit, and a nonzero value indicates some error.
In the past I've seen commercial applications that allows you add your own functions. Sometimes what the application expect is an exit code after your custom .exe executes.
Unfortunatelly, I've been unable to do this with LabVIEW, therefore I must use another development environment
such as MS VC++ or Borland C++ Builder to accomplish this. I wish I could do that with LabVIEW though...

How stored procedure get executed when called from java

When we create a stored procedure or function in oracle, it is compiled and stored there. From java when we call them no compilation is performed its a simple call. When a function or stored procedure is invoked from multiple instance of java objects(for a single session), does the stored procedure clone it self so that it can be called by different java objects which I think not possible at all. In such cases when one java object is interacting with the stored procedure, does other java objects go on a wait state. What happens if sessions are different.
Please help.

Problem Executing Macro from Ribbon, Runs fine when called from intermediate, or 'normal' butons

I've come across a very strange problem, we've been using some fairly simple macro's within excel for the last few months, I've recently come into a strange problem.
I decided to make things easier by putting commands onto the ribbon and creating an addin, as this code is reused by most of our workbooks, and having thousands of files with this code in seems like an awesome way to fill up our drives :)
Basically the code seems to just ignore the saveas command when run from the ribbon, code runs, ends saying successful, in the debugger stepping over the code it appears to step over the saveas command as appears that it's been excused without fail, however
no file gets created, workbook does not get saved and it keeps its original book<x> caption
here's a quick example of my code, I have a class module registering application commands
the ribbon button i'm using is just a print button, using the application print which then calls this before print function
this is the code that fires from the ribbon, we always print out 2 copies i'm not sure if this can be simplified?

Using CTRL P or File Print this works fine, BeforePrint triggers each time, but within Save Invoice it calls the Application.SaveAs function, when this print is fired from the ribbon this simply seems to get ignored

incase there is something weird i'm missing, this is the line that throws up no errrors, simply doesn't work, more annoyingly the SaveInvoice function returns no error, which in turn prints out the document, and its only until after you check for the file
you would realise it didn't save, I've since put a check in to check the file has saved, so far everysingle time it does not save from the ribbon, pressing CTRL P or clicking File Print will always save the file?

it works fine when using the normal print button on the custom ui, its when using a macro combined with
ActiveWindow.SelectedSheets.PrintOut
I've just created a blank workbook, with a class module to capture the before print, I've put 2 buttons on the custom ribbon, one using the default command, and the other to call a macro to reference the printout command
before print gets activated on both tries, however the saveas command gets ignored, seems to run, but not do anything when called using the .PrintOut command.

Stored procedure runs fine from SSMS but fails when called from the C# app

I'm using SS Express 2012 so I doubt I have all possible debugging capabilities at my disposal, although I'm still trying to figure this out myself.
The compiled C# application has logging to insure that the the SP is being invoked, the appropriate line of code is definitely being reached. The logging always reports 'success' suggesting that the SP was successfully executed (and no exception is thrown
to the C# app), but the indexes aren't getting rebuilt (I have a fragmentation query proving they are not rebuilt). Yet it runs successfully if I
(1) set a breakpoint in the C# app and step through the code line by line OR
(2) run the SP from the SSMS GUI.
The fragmentation query confirms sucess for both 1 and 2.
-I can't rely on the GUI because I want to run this overnight immediately after the C# app is finished inserting new records.
- The SP loops through all the tables, and all the indexes in each table, checking for fragmentation and rebuilding any indexes over 7% fragmented.

Your proc is a bit of a mess and hard to read. This should get you what you need though. I added a little logic in the middle that determines if the index should be reorged, or rebuilt.
You were right that my script was too messy and I used your code/logic to rewrite mine. Thanks! I tried it this morning and it worked fine, but I will have to see how it runs overnight to be sure.
Here's the weird thing. My original code should have worked. In fact I'm actually using it in 3 c-sharp apps each of which has 3 to 7 Express 2012 databases (about 10 million records per database). For about a month it's been working fine on two of the
apps. Furthermore this morning I used a commercial file-comparison tool to verify that the 3rd app has been running an identical version of the SP. So I'm at a total loss as to what went wrong in the 3rd app.

It sounds like if you open Preferences in Word there will be a place where you can specify where to store autorecover files. Right now it sounds like it's pointing to somewhere that doesn't exist.

Bring Excel 2007 to the front when called from LabView v9 in Windows 7

I am building a duplicate system using Windows 7, LabView v9 and Excel v2007. The original system used WinXP, Excel 2007 and LabView v8.6. The issue is that the original system was able to bring Excel to the front when called from Labview using the property node -application-> visible. This new configuration runs Excel, loads the data, runs the macros but does not bring Excel to the front. The icon blinks in the Win7 taskbar and when selected displays over LabView. If I minimize the Labview window, Excel is there. This leads me to conclude that Excel is visible, as requested but will not come to the front until selected from the taskbar. The only differences, besides the versions, is the original system template files used the .xls extension in and was run in Excel in compatible mode. At the customers request, the new system uses the .xlsm extension on the Excel template files. I have tried using application.visible = True in the macro as well. Could be a setting in Labview? Could be a setting in Excel? Could be .xls vs. .xlsm? Or an issue with Windows 7 and the newer version of Labview.

I will try the windowstate change. Were these done in succession? (i.e. property node -> property node -> property node) Or were they done along the way such as call the ActiveX open and a property node then in a worksheet modification area etc. so there was some time between calls?
I am not sure about the API since the discussion there is with regard to DDE. (Taken from the link document: If you want to call a DLL that contains ActiveX
objects, use the Automation
Open VI with the Property
Node and the Invoke
Node.). I am calling Excel as an application not as a library call unless I am mistaken, which I could certainly be. Are you thinking that once Excel is active through the Automation Open VI that a DLL call to set the application visible would work? I may be trying this already but in Excel through the use of the macro I call from LabView. It contains application.visible = True at the beginning before reading files and plotting data.
I may try sprinkling Property node with application->visible in various locations in the LabView diagram as I do update cells after the call to the plot macro. The puzzle for me is the blinking Excel icon in the task bar. This means active and running but not visible or something wrong as well. There are a few #VALUE cells if not all test in the system are run. Again not a problem in Excel 2007-WinXP-LV8.6

       Senario : I would like to execute a form from dynamic action which
creates a record in 0015 (Additional payment IT) .
       I have writen the code as shown below am using FM HR_INFOTYPE_OPERATION
. When i execute the program from se38 it is creating a record, however it is
not created when it is called from dynamic action..when i debugged the code in
inside the FM HR_INFOTYPE_OPERATION there is a FM HR_MAINTAIN_MASTERDATA where
they are using call dialog (statement) and

Why at all U want a subroutine to create a record in IT0015 through Dynamic action.There are some standard codes available to update infotypes.
Let me give U an example

Stored Procedure Does Not Run Properly When Called From Portlet

We have a simple Java portlet that calls a PL/SQL stored procedure which we wrote. The stored procedure sends a large number of emails to users in our corporation using the "utl_smtp" package. The stored procedure returns a count of the emails back to the Java portlet when it's finished. This number is displayed in the portlet.
Our problem:
The stored procedure functions as expected when run from a PL/SQL block in SQL*Plus, and the Java portlet calls the procedure properly when sending out a smaller number of emails (Less than 200 usually). When we get into a higher number of emails the procedure hangs when called from the portlet, but it STILL functions properly from SQL*Plus. It does not return the number of emails sent
and the Java portlet is unable to return a SQLException. Also, we have noticed that emails are sent at a much slower pace from the stored procedure when it's called from the portlet.

Any Ideas?

JTextField update problem when called from PropertyChangeEvent

Hi,
I'm trying to create forms that can be dynamically loaded with Class.forname(formName).
Those forms should always inherit some methods that make it easy to pass data to
them and receive data from them. The idea is that the data comes from a table which
sends a hashmap (String column/JTextField-name + String Value pairs) with firePropertyChanged
as soon as a new row is seleceted. The JTextFields in the form are marked with setName("FieldName") that has to correspond to the name of the columns of the table.
My problem is that I can't update the fields in my form when I'm calling getRow(HashMap)
from within propertyChangeEvent but that's necessary to keep the forms flexible.
JTextFieldName.setText(newText) just won't work. But it works when I call getRow(HashMap)
from the constructor. SwingWorker and threads to update the form didn't help.
I don't need to call pack() / update() / repaint() on the JFrame, do I ??
update() / validate() / repaint() etc. didn't work on the JTextField themselves.
Below is the code for one of the test-forms (just a JPanel that is inserted in a frame)
with all of it's methods. Does anybody have a solution to this problem ??

The problem of the change in the form not being comitted is that
I forgot SwingUtilities.invokeLater(makeChanges); in the bottom
part in public void propertyChange(java.beans.PropertyChangeEvent evt)
after having created a new Runnable.
Changes to the UI often have to be comitted by SwingUtitlities.invokeLater()
though I don't know that much about Swing yet.

Set the default field value to transaction code field, when calling from WD

Hi all,
Can we pass the value in a input field of a standard transaction calling from WD application. Suppose we are calling a transaction VA03 in an external window, then how will be pass the value in the VBAK_VBELN screen field.
Is there any way to pass the value to this transaction field. I have also tried out to set the parameter ID 'AUN' for VA03 transaction VBELN field. But it did not work for me.
Is there any way to set the default field value to transaction code field, when calling from WD?
Please suggest, if anyone have any idea.

when I run above query its coming in 1.2 seconds.but when comment subquery and call from package its taking 9 seconds.query returns more than 2000 records.i am not able to find the reason why it is taking more time when calling from package?

You are getting a different plan when you run it as PL/SQL most likely. Comment your statement:
SELECT /* your comment here */then find them in V$SQL and get the SQL IDs. You can then use DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY_CURSOR to see what is actually happening.
