How do I share info between my two computers over my network?

Hello !
I have an iMac, my husband has a Macbook. I just recently got an AEBS so that we could share the internet in the house. We are both wirelessy connected (thanks to the help on this forum). But I am wondering HOW can I share info on my computer...with his macbook? On HIS computer I can see a "shared" option on his HD, and my iMac is listed. It asks for password to access it. But I never set up this sort of sharing. I tried looking around on the iMac last night to figure out where I would do this, but to no avail. And I'm afraid to do something in fear of messing something else up !
I guess I have no idea how this "networking" thing really works. Any help would be appreciated !
Thanks for your help in advance.
Christine

+Ok...so I went to the system pref/account tab. and I see where the password is for my iMac. Is that the password he would use to access the computer from his? the same one I use to access my own computer?+
Yes, correct. When he "logs on" to your computer from his, he will be given the option for KeyChain access on his computer to "remember" the password so he won't have to manually enter the password each time he connects to your computer.
Same thing in reverse when you connect to his.
In most cases, the only thing you really need to share are the "printer" and "files", but you have a number of other options as well.

  • How do I share files between my two computers?

I have one computer (which is somewhat old) that doesn't have wireless capabilities as well as a newer laptop and a Wii which are both connected to the internet wirelessly.  How do I share files and such between these machines?

Enable File and Printer Sharing on each computer. Also make sure both the computer's are in the same workgroup...
The default workgroup name in Windows Vista has been changed to WORKGROUP. In WindowsXP, the default workgroup name is MSHOME...
Also go into the computer software firewall on each computer, and set it to "trust" the other computers on your network.
If your firewall or PC security program keeps a list of trusted applications (also known as a "trusted zone"), then make sure that your router is in the trusted zone on your firewall...

  • HT1495 Already have 2 accounts on my non apple computer how do I share music between the two?

My friend and I both have iTune accounts but want to share the music WE bought off of iTunes. What's the easiest way to do this on a PC?

To give other users read-only access to your iTunes library, use the Sharing features of iTunes. Sharing works over the local network as well as on the same computer. See the built-in help for details.
If you want to give full read/write access to more than one user, see the support article linked below.

There is a way to share the library without moving it to a secondary volume. If you really need to do that, ask for instructions.

  • How can I share my entire iMac hard drive over a network to my Macbook Pro?

I tried setting up a network, and I was able to successfully transfer a couple of files...but some files just wont transfer to my Macbook when I try to transfer them.
What gives? It tells me on certain files that I cannot get them because I dont have correct permissions. When I command-I to get the folder/file info...I'm not even able to change priviledges to "READ & WRITE". "READ" is the only option available.
Can someone please point out what Im missing? I'm trying to transfer a large amount of files from my imac to macbook pro so that I can sell my iMac. It's not letting me transfer all of them.
    Thanks in advance everyone!

and how do I log into the other computer as an administrator? the files i want to transfer i just movies, music, documents, etc.
    Two methods:
    1) Log into the other computer using the username of an administrator on that computer
    2) Log into the other computer using the username of the account that holds the movies, music, documents, etc.

  • How do i share my server with windows computers on my network

I just got my mac mini server not long ago, and i am trying to slowly convert my office from pc to MAC.  But i am having trouble sharing files, sharing my MAC's screen with a pc, and connecting my MAC to the router.  Does anyone know what to do? and last question, is there any way for my mac to use its mail service on a pc (i.e. mail to outlook)? Thanks!!!!

You're going to have to be more specific with the issues, errors and diagnostic messages that you are encountering, and what particular configuration you are seeing to establish.
Screen sharing is available from Mac to Mac, and from Windows once you load a VNC client on the Windows box such as TightVNC or some other VNC client, and configure and connect it.
Here are some notes on getting Windows file clients to connect to a Mac OS X Server SMB Samba file server; you have to drop some of the Windows security requirements to allow it to connect to the Mac OS X Server box.
Microsoft Office Outlook isn't traditionally used with mail servers other than Microsoft Exchange Server.  (While Outlook was good with Exchange Server and has likely gotten better over the years, it was classically rather poor when working with SMTP servers.)  More commonly, Outlook Express (and now called Windows Mail) is used for this, or Mozilla Thunderbird, or another SMTP-capable mail client.
One of the first things you will want to ensure here is correct and functional DNS on your LAN; other services are entirely dependent on DNS, and your ISP DNS cannot provide valid DNS for a LAN behind a NAT device.  Launch Terminal.app and issue the command sudo changeip -checkhostname and see if you get an indication that DNS is correct and no changes are required, or that there are DNS errors.  (You will need to enter an administrative password for the sudo command to be accepted.)
To connect and use a mail server on the Internet, you'll need to have a public static IP address and a correct public DNS configuration, or (far less desirably, and rather more complex) a way to tunnel from a non-static IP address over to a mail gateway service of some sort.  Having static IP and correct DNS is the usual approach.

  • How do I share files between two Macs on my wireless network?

I have an iMac G4 and an ibook G3 on a wireless network. I have "file sharing" activated on both computers. (Also Appletalk, which may or may not be a misguided move, but I got the idea from OSX "Help.")
When I try to get from either computer onto the other, my computer is recognized by name (another alternative is to log on as a "guest"). I'm prompted for a password. None of the passwords I use works. I've tried the administrative passwords for both computers.
How do I get beyond this hurdle to share files? I've posted elsewhere to no avail. This must be an easy one. How do you share files between two macs on one network?

Do your accounts on the machines have the same short name? It's an issue I've seen a few names.. one machine with bsmith, the other with bobsmith, but the long names for both being "Bob Smith". The login windows would confuse users because it showed their names, but because the short names didn't match, it wouldn't work.
The password you should use is the administrative one, so I don't know why you're not having luck.

  • How to find outthe difference between the two serivce patch of Netweaver04s

    Hi,
We have installed NetWeaver04s with sp13 patch. We want to upgrade this to latest patch avaiable on sap market place. I could see sp22 is the latest patch. I know all the procedure to download the patch. But before downloading I have to find out the difference between the latest patch available i.e. SP22 and the current patch installed i.e. SP13.
Could anybody guide me how to see the difference between any two patches avaiable on the SAP market place?
Let me know if you need more information on this.

    Hi
For single patch info, if you click the INFO link in window from where you download the patch. You will get the information related to that patch.
    eg
    SAPJEE05_0-10003469.SCA SP05 for SAP J2EE Engine 7.00  0 Info 53976 14.12.2005
Try out this, can help you (some navigation required)
    http://service.sap.com/sp-stack
    Select your Product:
Select Source and Target Release and Componenets. Click Next
    Navigate under "Additional Information"
    eg:
SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) Support Package Stacks
can be found on the SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) Support Package Stacks Info-Pages for each available Support Package Stack
In the next window; again navigate further: you can find like this
New functionality available with the relevant SP Stack is described in Section "Release Notes" as part of the SAP Library. Please refer to SAP Help Portal -> SAP NetWeaver 7.0 -> Release Notes. Each scenario folder contains the new functionality available for each SP Stack.

  • How can I share data between WinXP Pro and Mac OS 10.8.3 via wifi

How can I share data between WinXP Pro and Mac OS 10.8.3 via home wifi.

    MartyP wrote:
Or is there a problem with both OS's writing stuff to the
~/Home/Library folder that may be incompatible?
Yes, big time.  Mail, for sure, has a different file/folder structure, and would not be happy.
Plus, a number of apps (Apple and 3rd-party) are "Sandboxed."  That's a security feature, to prevent malware or bad coding from affecting things it shouldn't.  Some of their files, including the preferences files, aren't even stored in the same places!
Or to other places I'm not aware of?
Probably.  If you have two versions of the same app, they may or may not expect the same data setup.
To have one User folder for both OS's would save a lot of drive space
Not if you use some or all of woodmeister50's suggestions.
But I'm also not sure how I'd use Time machine with such a set up.
Just as you do now.  By default, Time Machine backs-up everything (except things like system work files, most caches and logs, trash) for all users and all internal drives & partitions.  By default, it excludes external drives.
You can change those defaults, of course, via TM Preferences > Options.
See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #32 for details and considerations of multiple drives.
    Presently I backup with . . . clones to other HD's
Good.   Yes, clones are different.  You need multiple "tasks" to back up multiple drives/partitions.  But once set up, that shouldn't be a big deal.

  • How do I share calendars between OS 10.8 and OS 10.6.8?

How do I share calendars between wife's iCal in MacBookPro 10.6.8 and my Calendar in iMac 10.8?

    Hi Leon Pappanastos,
I see that you want to label some faces in your photos in iPhoto ’09. Here is an article with some steps that will help you accomplish this:
Name the face of a specific friend or family member
Click to select Events in the Source list, select an event, and then select a photo that includes a person or people you want to name.
Click the Info button in the toolbar to open the Information pane.
Click the “unnamed” label and type a name to a face in your photo.
As you type, iPhoto suggests names based on previous names entered, names in your Contacts application, and names of your Facebook friends (if you’ve set up a Facebook account in iPhoto). If you want, you can choose one of these names from the pop-up menu that appears.
Note:   If no label appears below a face, it means iPhoto didn’t detect this face. It’s easy to add a missing face.
    Press the Return key.
If the photo shows more than one person, repeat steps 3 and 4 for each face you want to name.
You don’t have to name every person in a photo.
If there are people you don’t intend to name, you can tell iPhoto to ignore their faces. Move your pointer over the face, and then click the X in the top-left corner of the box that appears.
The box and “unnamed” label disappear.
When you’re done naming the people in this photo, click the Info button again to close the Information pane.
After you name someone in Faces, you can change the person’s name or include their full name at any time. Select Faces in the Source list to see your corkboard. Below a snapshot, click the name you want to change and type a new one.
You can also add a person’s email address here, if you wish.

  • How do I share files between Macs?

I have a new Mac running Lion.  My wife has a MacBook running OS X 10.6.8.
How do I share files between the 2 machines.  Her laptop shows up in my Finder and my Mac shows up in her Finder.  We try to copy files and it looks like they are copied (using iPhoto export), but there is nothing there.  When I try to browse her laptop from my Mac, I am told I don't have permission.
