How do I tell javascript or safari to click a link

I just need help with the applescript to tall safari to click a link.
I assume I would need something from the source code. What would that information be and how would I apply it to my script?

If you know the function, then you can tell Safari to do it using Javascript. I have a refresh button on a modem page that calls the function location.reload(), which I can call like this:
tell app "Safari"
do Javascript "location.reload()" in document 1
end
(document 1 is the frontmost document)
I think that should do what you want, but ask back if not.

The website may have a preference for Flash before using Javascript. Try a different browser like Skyfire (or whatever.) Regardless, if it's using Flash, it's probably not going to work very well with the iPad.

Just an FYI, Java is not the same a Javascript. Safari on the iPad has Javascript, but not all websites work correctly with mobile versions of web browsers.

A library item is located in the Library folder. It contains
a link to your
HOME page. That link MUST look like either this -
<a href="/index.html"
or this -
<a href="../index.html"
There are no other choices. If you MANUALLY make the link in
the Library
item look like this -
<a href="index.html", as you seem to be stating, then DW
cannot manage that
link without adding the Library folder to the path, since the
link implies,
nay guarantees, that the page linked to is IN THE LIBRARY
folder.
Stop trying to control this. Let DW do it. It works just
fine.
Why on EARTH would you not want DW to manage your links?

How to perform expand and collapse operation on click of link or button

Is there anyway by which i can perform expand and collapse operation over a table on click of a command link or button without using show details component.
Is there any other alternative to show detail.
I do not want to use show detail because of the following reason.
I have got a page where in i pass some parameters to the URL based on which details get displayed on the page.
Now when i pass a parameter, change the parameter, once again send the previously used parameter(i,e the parameter that i passed initially), values in the table under show detail do not show any change in values.
Once i pass values which i have already passed, values in the table under show detail component do not refreshed.
If anyone has encountered with similar situation, then please post me reply's as to how you could over come the problem??

Perhaps you could use an on-demand application process instead - you can specify these in the URL.
The URL syntax (for your link) would be like...
f?p=application_id:page_id:session:APPLICATION_PROCESS=process_idIs this what you mean?

My safari won't work unless I click a link?

Recently I used AdwareMedic to clean off adware that had made its way on my computer. Once it was cleaned, I restarted my computer to be safe. Since the restart, every time I open my Safari a page comes up that states, "Safari Can't Open the Page." It goes on to state that the server unexpectedly dropped the connection, and to wait a few minutes then try again. However, time isn't helping my problem. I've restarted it again, I've updated my software, and I can't find any other discussions about this. (Forgive me if I've just missed it.) Then, I tried to click a link that was texted to me through the Messages app, and Safari worked (mostly). Some websites still wouldn't work, but I could get on most everything else. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I'd like to use Safari without clicking a link that was sent to me through a text. Thank you very much.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

There are no viruses currently affecting the Mac but there is something called Flashback which is malware that has been doing the rounds and affected many Mac users. Apple have released some updates to Java that should remove it and improve protection. Run Software Update to see if there is anything for downloading.
A few precautions that can help prevent your Mac becoming infected:
If you use Flash only download it directly from Adobe.
In all web browsers disable Java (but do leave Javascript on as that's something else).
In all web browsers make sure downloaded files aren't set to automatically open after downloading.
Consider disabling Java completely (launch Java Preferences in the Utilities folder and disable it - you'll likely rarely, if ever need it. If you do just turn it on and off again when your done).

How do I tell Safari to play a live stream always in QuickTime?

I like to watch a television station from Eastern Europe that streams live on the internet. When I click on the link, the content plays in Windows Media Player. Recently, purely by fluke, it opened in QuickTime and I really preferred this version. Unfortunately I have been unable to repeat this fluke. There is nothing in Safari, QuickTime, or WMP preferences relevant to this issue. I have inputted the link's URL where QuickTime prompts me, but it does nothing.
Is there a way I can tell Safari to open the link in QuickTime whenever I select the link?
(Both my Safari and QuickTime use the latest versions.)

If the content is playing in Windows Media Player, you will be better off installing Flip4Mac which will allow a Quicktime window to open. If I type in Adobe flash into search it only brings up flash manager, when I click this it is an uninstaller program.
Lightsource shows in finder apps.
If I type in flash player it shows up in plugins with a version number see screen shot.
Where would I go to check for updates for things like flash on my comp?

I have Macbook Pro (early 2011) and recently purchased a WD My Passport for Mac external HD. I have completed a back up using Time Machine, however how do I tell what files actually were backed up? I have a ton of audio, documents and photos that I would like on there. Its a 2 TB HD, my memory is 750 GB... Im using 632. At end of back up, the drive still had 1.88 TB left. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It makes no changes to your data.
Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
tmutil compare | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
The command may take several minutes to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear below what you entered.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Don't post all the output; just read it yourself. Each line that begins with a plus sign (“+”) represents a file that has been added to the source volume since the last snapshot was taken. These files have not been backed up yet.
Each line that begins with an exclamation point (“!”) represents a file that has changed on the source volume. These files have been backed up, but not in their present state.
Each line that begins with a minus sign (“-“) represents a file that has been removed from the source volume.
Files that you’ve excluded from backup, or that are excluded automatically, are ignored.
At the end of the output, you’ll get some lines like the following:

These lines show the total amount of data added, removed, or changed on the source(s) since the last snapshot.
Caution: Under some conditions, tmutil may falsely flag files as not having been backed up when in fact they have been. It can be confused by multi-linked files, or by files with a modification date earlier than the one in the snapshot. This will not be an issue for most users. If the results of the above procedure surprise you, inspect your snapshots directly.

Other than updating Java, there is no perfect way to detect an attack.
You may not have Java installed after all. You can check it.
Finder > Application > Utilities > Java Preferences
Click "Java Preferences".
If a pop-up opens up offering to "Install", Mac does not have Java installed.
Click "Not Now" button and close the Application folder.
Safari > Preferences > Security > Web content:
If the box next to "Enable Java" is checked, uncheck it.

How can I tell if I have the flashback malware? Will installing the latest security update get rid of the malware /virus and protect my computer?

Here's what I am suggesting as a rudimentary test for some of the known strains of the flashback trojans. Open a terminal window and copy/paste each of the following lines hitting return after each one and note the results:
defaults read ~/.MacOSX/environment
defaults read /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Info LSEnvironment
ls -la ~/Library/LaunchAgents
grep "/Users/$USER/\..*" ~/Library/LaunchAgents/*
For the two defaults command if you get anything other than a "does not exist" error message post the results since you are almost certainly infected.
The third command, ls, just lists the contents of your LaunchAgents, if any. That's additional info to be used in conjunction with the last grep command. If the grep shows any results then that too may indicate infection and again post its results.

To answer your question: no, not really. However, the points that I made here were about Safari and accompanying utilities, not about Apple in general.
If it makes you feel any better, I am just as, or even more, critical of Micro$oft as the occasions arise...Windoze Vista is the most recent occasion and has given sufficient reasons and opportunities to vent my spleen that I actually have eased up on Apple, politicians, nut-case religious extremists, cell phone owners, and the Department of Homeland Paranioa, etc., due to an exhaustion of creative energy.
