Correct. I have not installed ANY other software for anti-virus, etc. I want to install a Synch app for my HTC phone to sych with MS Outlook 2011 installed on my Mac. HTC will not synch with it otherwise. That was really the basis for my question....if installing a non Apple app can be done without messing with factory settings on the Mac. In Windows I remember that I needed to disable Norton and the Firewall in order for installation to occur.

I downloaded Carbonite software to periodically back-up my data. But my Mac cannot contact the Carbonite server. I think this is because of my firewall or virus protection. How can I temporarily turn off my firewall and/or virus protection so Carbonite can upload all the data on my Mac? How will Carbonite be able to periodically upload my data when my firewall and virus protection are back on?

My kids are up all night streaming Netflix and using the WiFi on their iPads and Apple TV. The next day they don't want to get up and go to school. Is there a way I can set up a separate access point for just the kids in AirPort Extreme and then turn that one off when i go to bed? Or somehow turn off the main network when I go to bed, without having to reconfigure the entire router the next day, and then simply turn it back on the next morning? I have to keep the Guest Network up as I have a paying tenant living in an apartment over my garage that uses that network.
In the event it's not possible with the AirPort Extreme, any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I have been receiving a Firefox update request stating that to install I must turn off my virus protection. Is this a real update request? Is there a way to get the update without turning off my virus protection?
You're not reading that update message completely or understanding exactly what would be disabled. Firefox only disables incompatible add-ons, not anti-virus programs.

It worked for me and my "user" site (don't know how to say my site) and still having problems with my wife's. How do I permanently turn off fullscreen view in Safari? I never want my menubar to autohide and it has been doing so since the last update. Once I click on the little blue arrows at the top right of the screen, it is temporarily fixed but then resets to fullscreen when I re-open Safari.
Thaty is quite odd behavior as I have never seen that happen
in any Safari version since full screen was added to OSX.
It almost sounds as if the preference file for Safari may be
corrupted or some other setting file. However, before messing
with that, export your bookmarks (File->Export Bookmarks...)
so you can retrieve them and under the Safari menu, select reset
Safari. If this doesn't resolve things, and since you saved your
bookmarks, in Finder hold down Option key and on the Go menu
select library. In the Preferences folder, find:
com.apple.Safari.plist
and move it to Desktop or trash it. Next time Safari opens it
will recreate the file and see if this fixes the issue. -
I keep getting error 205 when downloading CC on a 2nd computer. PC, Windows 7. We had turned off anti-virus and ran cleaner. Any suggestions of how else to do it? I have creative cloud installed on another computer, but do not see the .exe file on it so I can't copy and move it.

Is it possible to temporarily turn off the wireless signal being emitted from an Airport Extreme whilst still remaining connected to the internet via ethernet? If so, what do you need to do to turn off the wireless signal?
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab located just under the row of icons
Wireless Mode = None
Update to save your new settings
You can reverse the process to turn the wireless back on when you are ready.
Also, how strong is the wireless signal? If placed in a basement of a residential property, is it likely that the signal would reach two floors above?
It's just not possible to accurately predict wireless performance in advance for any installation. A guess would be that the signal will be very weak, and likely unusable, but you won't know for sure until you try it out in your house.

I've been trying to install 6.0...i run it, and do the installation, but at a certain point it will go no further, with a notice: turn off firefox...but i've never turned it on...can't locate it...suggestions?
Must be the "hang at exit" problem. That is usually caused by and Add-on (Extension or Plugin)<br /><br />
