How do you do a newline

when i append some text then a new line to my buffer
so i am doing
buffer.append(" some text \n");
is this the correct way?

when i append some text then a new line to my bufferIt depends on the context of what you are doing.
If you are adding text to a Document then you only need to use "\n" since the Document only stores a single newline character. When you use document.getText() or use the textComponent.write(..) methods then the new line character is converted to the new line String. When you start with an empty Document then I believe the new line String is simple "\n". If you use the read method to load a Document then the Document remembers the new line String of the file read.
If you are building a StringBuffer and appending text then you need to add the appropriate new line String yourself.
