How does one meaningfully measure maintainability?

Context: I'm an enterprise developer in an all-MS shop.
Can anyone recommend a good way of objectively measuring maintainability of a piece of code or an application?
Why maintainability: I'm tired of "quality" metrics in my group revolving only around number of bugs and code coverage. Both metrics are easy to game, especially
when you're not measuring maintainability. Shortsightedness and deadlines result in huge amounts of technical debt that never really get addressed.
Why the ability to measure objectively: I work in a big enterprise group. If you can't objectively measure it, you can't hold people accountable for it or make them get better
at it. Subjective measurements either don't happen or don't happen consistently.

I think you already put your finger on why measuring maintainability in a mechanical way is a bad idea.

You measure number of anything and people will play to that.
Number of lines?
Suddenly you have three blank lines to every line of code.
Number of characters?
People start cutting and pasting swathes of code in to "get their stats up".
In my opinion, there is no substitute for the manual code review.
Someone somewhere should be kicking back code which is "bad".
Encouraging better practice by code walk throughs, coaching and maybe even pair programming.

You should not update the standard database table directly.
through the partner profile tcode: WE20 you can update the table EDIPHONE.
u can choose required partner profile in the WE20, select the tab 'Telephony', and update the data, the table EDIPHONE will get updated.
if you want to maintain this edi phone data for a particular message type/s then select inbound/output parameters and double clikc on it, go to last tab in teh screen 'Telephony', and updated the required data.

How does one get huey pro to start up when computer starts in morning

Huey Pro is a sensor that measures and monitors the light in the room so that colors are rendered as acccurately as possible. Once I calibrated the screen and device, it should fire up when I restart the computer but it dos not. the icon in the system folder when clicked, says that the system preference folder needs to restart, the it will fire up.
So How does one get this to start early.

I am not sure that you can make the Huey Pro work correctly.Worked fine on windows but it was the one programme for me that I have never had success with on the Mac.
I have checked the Huey web site for info but the support seems to have stopped.
So the only way I can do it is to wait until the Icon is in the top right section of the screen,note that a white cross is in it and then click on the Icon in the dock open up the programme until the Start bit occurs then just click the close button.That fixes it for me.

Are you submitting a print or a file?
You set the size of your print in the print dialog.
You set the number of pixels (the unit of linear measurement of digital images is the pixel) for a file when you create that file by exporting an Image from your Library. You can specify a recommended number of Pixels per Inch by using the (mis-named) DPI field in the Image Export Preset you use when you export.
The files you import have a height and width in pixels. Height/width = the Aspect Ratio. You can crop to any aspect ratio using Aperture's Crop tool.

GB has two "modes": In "musical time" the units of the timeline are bars and beats, in "real time", they're seconds. You can switch between them by clicking the clock/note symbols near the play button.
"Snap to grid" only works in the musical time mode.
An Apple Loop is always supposed to be an integer number of measures long. So if you're in 4/4 it can be 1, 2, 3 ... measures (which is 4, 8, 12 ... beats) long. Since the concept of loops is to be in rhythm with the beat of your song, this makes sense - so it is assured that the "one" of a drum loop, e.g., always sits on the "one" of a measure.
If your loop is only half a measure long, you can double it to make a full bar. If your loop is not in rhythm at all with a beat - well, then it probably doesn't make sense to turn it into a loop that adjusts to the tempo in the first place. You can still turn it into a "static" kind of loop.

How does Order Analysis measure phase lag, particularly super-sync amplitudes?

In recent testing of a high speed gear box, an 8X amplitude was observed (on the radial displacement probes) as the gear passed through a certain speed range. An NI4472 pci card and vi's written in 7 Express, w/ Order Analysis tool kit were configured with radial displacement probes and keyphasor as input signals. The behavior of the phase lag measurement is significant. If the phase lag of the 8X amplitude rolled as the gear passed through a particular speed range then this could suggest one particular problem, but if the phase lag remained constant then this could indicate a different problem. So, someone asked: How does the system measure phase lag of supersynchronous amplitudes?

The Phase measurement in the LabVIEW Order Analysis Toolkit uses the phase lag convention. Phase is defined as the angle difference measured from the peak of a vibration signal backward in time to the reference trigger point. This means the directions of numerically increasing angles are always set against the shaft rotation. The trigger point here is the tachometer pulses.
Figure 1 shows the relationship of the vibration signal and reference signal to zero degree phase. The shaft has a heavy spot and a keyway slot. When the keyway slot passes the tachometer, the tachometer detects a trigger pulse. The heavy spot causes the shaft to vibrate as the shaft rotates. When the heavy spot passes the proximity probe, the vibration reaches a peak. When the heavy spot passes the proximity probe and the keyway slot passes the tachometer simultaneously, the peak of the vibration does not lag or lead the reference trigger point. At this point the phase is zero degrees.
The other part of the convention dictates that 90 degrees means that the peak of vibration lags 90 degrees behind the trigger point. Figure 2 1illustrates the 90 degree phase. When the vibration signal reaches the peak, rotate the shaft backward (counter the rotation direction) until the keyway slot passes the tachometer. The number of degrees you rotate is the phase lag, or the phase value in machinery vibration measurement. Figure 2 shows the relationship of the vibration signal and reference signal to the 90 degrees phase convention.
For the 8x phase, the measurement is conducted in the similar way. The difference is that the 8x order component go 8 times faster than the trigger pulses. Figure 3 shows the 90 degree phases ( tacho pulse in rising edge) of the 8x order components. The phase measurement is still conducted through calculating the delay between the peak in the 8x vibration components and the trigger pulses and comparing the delay to one cycle of the 8x components. In figure 3, the signals between the two green grid lines are used to output one phase results.

Sounds like you are using Gmail.
Pages 5 uses a zipped package of files as its format. 3rd party servers don't understand the format and show it as the component parts.
Use Mail toenail the file or zip the .pages document before sending.

Since the upgrade to version 9.0.1 of Firefox, the Bookmarks feature changes are confusing me. They seem to be confusing themselves as well. The list of bookmarks has changed. The font size is so small that my aging eyes cannot read it without fogging the screen with my breath. Some folders are out of alphabetical order (where I know they were previously good), and some are missing altogether (folders to which I frequently add references).
As for missing or deranged files or folders, was there something that I should have done or now need to do to recover those after the upgrade (or before)?
With regard to font size,
1. there is no “Edit Bookmarks” or like option to edit the list in this version
2. the “zoom” option in the “view” list of functions is greyed out when in “Show All Bookmarks” window
3. expanding the browser window has no effect on font size
4. “Preferences” settings for font size has no effect in that window either, including advanced settings
5. “Help” offers none that I can find.

How does one use an external microphone with the internal camera?

I want to use the internal camera because I don't have anything better but I want to use an external mic to record video and sound simultaneously, for a video blog. How does one accomplish this? I'm getting no help from the manual.

Try this. Connect your external mic, either through the audio line in port or, into a USB port if it is a USB mic and then go to System Preferences under the Apple and select the Sound icon under Hardware. Click on your mic shown in the list of input devices.

You can also use the shape tool to draw a shape roughly following the outline of the graphic you want to wrap text around, change the fill and stroke to "none", then paste your text within the shape. It's a few more steps, but it opens you up to many creative alternative layouts.

I have in the past created an Apple ID for use with the UK itunes store, because I want to read in English. If I sign in it seems that this ID will only allow me to purchase from the UK store. But I live in Belgium, so I can't download from the UK store. So I tried to create an apple ID for the Belgian itunes store. But I want to use the same email address as I used for the first apple ID I made (because I'm fed up of having to remember which email address I used for which account). When I tried this, I just get a message saying that the email address is already in use for another account (which I know, because it's me who made that account). Does anyone have a workaround for this?

I'm presuming you went ahead and set up a new Apple ID, yes? Using the same password in more than one Apple ID has worked for me in the past, but I haven't tried it in a while so the tightened security may have changed that. You could use the same password but add "-UK" and "-BE", or something like that, to make it easier to remember.
I understand what you mean about losing the ability to deal with UK purchased stuff, but this is becoming so inconvenient that I do want to delete that UK apple ID account. I have looked everywhere I can think of on the apple website (apple id, itunes, support etc) and I can't find a link/eplanation/contact point that deals with deleting apple ID and itune store accounts. Surely this must be possible?
It's possible, but Apple is very reluctant to do it, and it's not something a user can do on their own. It would be better to just stop using the UK account rather than trying to get it deleted. Just remove your payment information and there should be little reason to have the account deleted. If you really want to try, though, you'll need to send a message to iTunes support specifying that you want the account cancelled.
On a completely different matter, I have bought my son an ipod touch. But since he is younger than 13 years old, how does one go about using the itunes store to get music onto his ipod touch?

Firefox update installs, but does not apprearon screen, or task manger yet is running what is going on and how does one fix it?

I installed the update Mozilla Firefox 28. It was suppose to launch upon completion. it did not appear on the monitor screen, nor the task manager, but was running; for when I attempted to install the older version again it, it said that Firefox was running and needed to be turned off.
I restarted the computer and tried opening Firefox, with the same results.
After restarting again, I attempted to reinstall the update, with the same results taking place.
I attempted to uninstall Firefox and install the new version. The same results took place.
In the past, I could install Firefox 27 update, only now I can't for the same thing takes place. Past a certain version (19), this event takes place, but 19 and older can install it with no problems.
I checked Firefox troubleshooting information. All was normal. I checked my firewall. Again, all was normal. Tried Firefox reset. Did not help. Tried with my firewall disabled. Did not solve the problem.
Ran a virus check (deep) no viruses. Checked my computer system. No errors.
I can install updates for my other programs, even install new programs; just not Firefox.
What is going on and how does one fix it.

Thank you for your question. From your description, you tried to install the 28 update from a version 19 installation. Did you install a fresh install of 28 successfully? Where the name of the file is"Firefox Setup Stub 28.exe"? This is what is sound like happened. When going to about Firefox and searching for updates it installs over the current installation. However if Firefox was already running, there are more than one installation.
Updating from version 19 to 28 would not be a problem. However the user data from your previous version would have to be imported to the new installation if you have more than one install on that computer.
An easy way to tell is to search for Firefox in the Start menu to see if more than one icon shows up in the search results.
