How does trial extra software come packaged?

I have been looking for the add on programs and can't find them on the computer so I looked inside the box in the little black box with the boot disks..
That's all I found, the os boot disks. Did I get ripped off?
If so, I bought the computer new from amazon.
Do I complain to them or to Apple?
thanks.

And if you actually insert the first Installation DVD you'll find an installer for the bundled software on it.

  • Does any extra software come with new iMAC?

My other Macs all came with bundled software (Omni Outliner, Stuff it Expander, Backgammon, and bunch of other neat things). This new one has chess-and that's it! Seems there should be-at least-some free software. Do I actually have to PAY for a zip file expander? and little extras like backgammon? Just wondering if my computer is missing something or...is that's just the way they come now. Bare bones. No bells and whistles?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    This is the list from the Apple website;
    Software
Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard (includes Time Machine, Quick Look, Spaces, Spotlight, Dashboard, Mail, iChat AV, Safari, Address Book, QuickTime, iCal, DVD Player, Xcode, Developer Tools)
iLife ’08 (includes iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, iWeb, GarageBand)
    iWork ’08 (30-day trial)
    Front Row
    Photo Booth
The basic Stuffit Expander is always free. Plus many folks use Unarchiver.
Apple Downloads has lots of stuff to download, much of it freeware.
My favorite card game is freeware; Solitare XL.

Just brought home newly purchased MacBook Pro 15"/Maverick/Retinal Display. To my astonishment, there is NO DVD slot! No one in the store told me about this missing feature. Intolerable, How does one install software? Insert CDs to copy for iTunes?Do I have to purchase an external DVD drive? Is one even available? What a crock!

I’ve owned Macs since 1990 (IICX my first), mostly desktops. Having had DVD/CD drives in all my previous laptop Macs since 2001 -  (2) G4 Powerbooks,  A 17” Mac Book Pro - and also inspecting a friend’s year-old Mac Book Pro which had the DVD slot - unless someone told me at purchase, I had no reason to know that the Retina display version of the 15” had NO DVD drive. ANYHOW, I fully intended to buy the non-Retina display version, because it was cheaper. Unfortunately by the time I got to the Apple store they were no longer selling the non-Retina display version; all versions were ONLY with the Retina display. And the fine distinction of a DVD vs. a non-DVD drive was not pointed out. So now I have to shell out an additional $80 bucks for an external SuperDrive.

  • How does one uninstall software from macbook pro?

How does one uninstall software from macbook pro?

I realized there was a super-easy solution to find the uninstall function to uninstall ProTools. i simply typed in uninstall protools in the internal search field (the one in the top right corner). Viola, there was the uninstall window and click, the software was gone. super easy!

  • How does CM know that a PACKAGE is installed

I am a bit unclear on how SCCM knows that a PACKAGE is installed.  When a package successfully installs, does the CM client stamp the registry?    What if a package fails to install because of a bad command line, does the client cue the
package to try again later? What if I uninstall the package and I want to install it again (required deployment)?
for applications the above all makes sense, just not for packages.

You need to deploy or re-deploy the program. (package aren't deploy but programs are)
Yes, you will need to deploy or re-deploy the program.
No, if you change the version it will NOT update the program on existing clients but new client will get it.

  • How does iWeb read the Domain package?

My MacBook is having stability problems. Along the way with its MANY crashes, it has lost its path to my iWeb domain.
The Domain package in the Application Support folder has its contents intact, but upon opening iWeb, the sites are missing, and there is no import feature. I also get a dialog box reading "Can't open the file "~/Library/ApplicationSupport/iWeb/Domain.sites."
    Ideas?
I am the sole teacher in our district using a blog instead of a newsletter to communicate with parents. I am also using another site to blog notes on professional readings being done for my master's degree. It is difficult to convince others to take the digital leap when the risk-takers fail!

OP? I'm not a newbie, but neither am I a true geek...Pygmalion, I guess. Anyway, please help with the term.
This happened before upgrading to 1.1.2, which I only just did today. I also tried dragging the domain to the trash, then allowed iweb to rebuild. It rebuilt a nothing file. I returned the old "full package deal" domain.
Before iweb failed, MS Office apps began crashing, freezing on saves or attempts to print. Soon other apps were crashing on save. Then the iweb mystery occurred. All this since the last week in August when I got this MacBook for my classroom. Add to that the new third Mac Mini in that time period (the third is no longer turning on the display at all, but I'm out of fix-it time) and you're looking a a woman who is ready to become a luddite!
I've kept all this under my hat at work, lest I provoke the real luddites. But that make's solutions finding (and venting) lonely. Hopefully someone here will have a brilliant solution...soon!
Perhaps Apple should hire me as their quality assurance controller. If it passes my golden touch, their returns would be WAY down!

  • How to 'trial' Java software

    Hi
Is there any way to make a trial time for a Java programm ?

that information in some file, but user can always
delete the file, modify the file or the easiest way:
reload the file as it was first time to use.
Then what?Well you can make some chekcs:
    - the file should not be in the folder where the program is installed
    - if the file is not present the program will not run.
    - you can encrypt the information in the file so the user cannot modify it
    - as for reloading I don't get the idea: you mean that at a later time the user replaces the file with a copy he made when he first used program? This is not of much use if you check the current date, anyway you can check the last modified date to see if the file is the original one.

  • In terms of efficiency and expandability, how does iPlanet Portal software differ from a portal written in PHP and PERL?

In my opinion the fact that the portal uses primarily JAVA, lends itself to quite a bit of expandability. I think it will be quite difficult for a portal written in PHP (Such as PHP Nuke) to share user session and state information accross multiple machines/instances. The iPlanet portal server has been designed to accomodate this, through the use of specialised session services. The threading model in Java also lends itself to greater efficiency when executing multiple tasks, whereas a portal based on PERL, would have to start a new process everytime a service is requested, which can then become VERY resource intensive.
In terms of expandability, the fact that it is contaned inside a JAVA VM will allow you to develop and deploy alot of custom developed applications for your portal. There is also quite a good portal API for the iPlanet portal server that will allow you to tap into the Logging,Session,Profile and Authentication services provided by the portal.
    Hope this helps!

  • How can one time software updates to allow uploading at off peak times?

How does one time software updates to allow uploading at non peak periods?

Apple has plenty of servers for handling the downloading of software updates.  There is no optimum time since the updates are available worldwide.  Anytime is a good time.

  • HT4972 How come my iPad does not have software update in the settings?

Help, my iPad does not have software update available in settings, how do I update?

The option to update without the computer (Over the air) was made available with iOS 5. If your iDevice is using a version of iOS lower than 5, you will need to use iTunes on your syncing computer to perform the upgrade. Use the Apple link below as a guide for the upgrade.

  • How does apple want me to create a DVD to play on my DVD player from iMovie? iDVD did not come with my iMac.

I have created several home movies in imovie and am now ready to burn them to DVDs that family members can play on their DVD players. How am I supposed to do this? iDVD did not come with my imac. How does apple want us to do this? Thanks.

Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it, and how do I install it?
Apple insists that the entire world has access to fast broadband (and are prepared to pay for the considerable bandwidth usage) and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud, YouTube, Facebook, whatever) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that in reality not all users do, has so far had no effect on this policy. Some purchasers of new iMacs have reported that if you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone to Apple, they may send you a free copy of iDVD. Stating that they would return their brand new Mac unless they received a copy of iDVD worked for some, but that is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple.
Also, you can complain bitterly via Apple’s Feedback link, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between burning DVDs and distributing home movies by other means. You may feel that Apple should not dictate how you destribute family videos or photos to distant relatives and friends, and should not assume that every user is prepared to pay for the excessive bandwidth usage charged by ISPs for huge downloads from the App Store:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or that comes with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. As there is no satisfactory substitute for iDVD Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD 7, i.e. iLife version 9 onwards. You should also do this if you plan to buy a new Mac anytime soon, as stocks of iLife that include iDVD will not be available for ever.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD. Also, of course, there is Roxio Toast, which is the best software for burning anything but again does not offer the flexibility of iDVD.
It is worth noting that the version of iDVD 7 included with iLife 11 only includes themes from iDVD 5-7. If you want all the older themes you should buy iLife 9, which has the same version of iDVD 7 but with all the themes, and none of the iDVD 7 updaters available from Apple Downloads contain them.
Currently the only certain way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
    https://discussions.apple.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/2-21006826-20751 4/Installer001.jpg
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
    https://discussions.apple.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/2-21006826-20748 0/Pacifist001.jpg
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
But even though you can still buy iLife 9 or 11 that includes iDVD 7 from Amazon, Apple now make it difficult to install:
When you try to install iDVD you may see a notice come up on the screen stating that the 'Authorisation Licence' had expired on 25 March 2012, because Apple have withdrawn the license to it can no longer be used.
In other words Apple are now so adamant that we don’t use iDVD that they have tried to make it impossible to install.
If you get an invalid certificate message just set your Mac's clock to sometime before early 2011 and run the installer.  After installing iDVD reset the time back to the correct time on your Mac.
You may be to use able to use the installer even without setting back the date.  Just click on the Continue button and it should work as expected, but for some it will not continue unless the date is  set back.
    Additional comments:
Apple has clearly indicated in the newest iMacs, Mac mini and Retina Display MacBook Pro that it plans to phase out optical disc drives as soon as possible across the board, providing an external USB drive as an option for users who need one but which is not universally compatible with all Macs.
Users increasingly have fewer opportunities to use optical drives, as the bulk of third party software is now available as a digital download either directly from the vendor or through Apple's App Store. but not all. Apple also sees digital distribution as the future of music and movies, as exemplified in Apple TV, which has never included an optical drive.
The company has never supported any new HD optical disc formats on its products, including Microsoft's ill fated HD-DVD or Sony's Blu-ray format, despite initially being involved in the Blu-ray standardization process. Instead, Apple has put its resources behind developing increasingly higher definition audio and video formats that it can distribute electronically through its own iTunes Store.
And if you think Microsoft are any better, their latest Windows 8 operating system will not play DVDs, or burn them, unless customers buy an extra upgrade, the company has announced:  http://www.gizmag.com/windows-8-no-dvd-playback/22443/
In other words, computer manufacturers have declared optical media as dead, long before consumers are ready to stop using them, which is fine as long as they offered us a choice, but they won’t even do that. Flexibility and intuitive use of a computer seems to be a thing of the past.
The latest anorexic iMacs do not even include a CD drive (or Firewire)! Proof positive that Apple virtually prohibit the use of optical media - although the newly announced Mac Minis do include a Superdrive.
Yet, they still include iMovie! Heaven alone knows or understands what you are supposed to do with your newly edited masterpiece - except make a low quality version for YouTube?

Sorry that I write again about this problem, but I can't manage with it.

And I don't know what else??
    Please Help Me!!

Edna's #1 rule for Java Newbies... Never
    ever use an IDE
Now you have introduced a new variable to the problem.
Assuming com.bruceeckel is in some jar file called
bruce.jar (I like that), just add the the following
    to you class path
<path to bruce.jar>/bruce.jarI take it that you are working through Bruce Eckel's Thinking in Java book ( or online )... I checked it out myself not to long ago, and following the instructions, found that I had to do somethings prior to using his code samples and exercises...
One is to download his source code at http://mindview.net/Books/TIJ/#SourceCode
Two, when you read the page, it tell you that you need to compile the downloaded source code to run the examples in the book... follow the directions given in the above link...
Once its all compiled, then it will be ready for use, well after you set the classpath as per instructions...
and leave the IDE alone for now, once you get a better understanding of Java, then you can take the time to learn how to use the IDE, but for now, it will probable just confuse you more... But that only my opinion...
Any way, download, compile, set the classpath and your on your way...
