How download from camera to iMovie

On my Sony camera, we made some movies and when downloaded, these movies went to iPhoto as MOV01011.MPG. When I click on this movie, it plays on QuickTime Player. But, I cannot transfer this file to iMovie.
Help!

But, I cannot transfer this file to iMovie.
IMovie '08 can't edit "muxed" video formats natively, therefor it will not import them at the file level. Convert the MPEG VX (MPEG-1) files to DV, AIC, M-JPEJ, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, H.264, or other compatible video format with a compatible audio compression format. MOEG-based, third-party applications like iSquint (free) or MPEG Streamclip (free) will do this.

Bridge will do the job. View > Sort > ByType. Then you can choose a group of one type and put the files in a separate folder.

    Hello bbryson68,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I understand you're wanting to move iMovie project and event data to another drive.  I found the following information in the iMovie help that answers your question.
Copy or move projects, events, or clips between libraries or storage devices
Connect a storage device that contains the target library to your Mac, or copy the target library to your Mac.
Choose File > Open Library, and choose an option from the submenu. You can choose from recently opened libraries, locate an existing library on your Mac, or create a new library. The selected library is opened in the Libraries list, with the first event selected and its contents displayed in the browser.
In the Libraries list, select the event that contains the item you want to move or copy.
In the browser, select the item you want to move or copy.Tip:  To select multiple clips or projects in the same library, hold down the Command key as you click the items you want to select, or drag a selection rectangle around the items.
    Do one of the following:
To move items between events or libraries: Drag the clip or project to another event or library.
To copy items between events or libraries: Option-drag the clip or project to another event or library by first starting to drag and then holding down the Option key as you drag.
    Work with multiple libraries

I would say that odds are high that you have a bad cable. Maybe that is why they returned it.
I would suggest trying a different firewire cable.
You can find Firewire cables inexpensively at monoprice.com. You need a 4 pin to 9 pin firewire cable.
    Here is a link.

    Other things to check:
Is your camera plugged in to wall power (not to batteries only). Must be hooked to an AC power source to import.

  • I have downloaded a movie from camera to imovie, now want to burn to a dvd disc.  can anyone tell me what to do next

I have downloaded three movie clips from my camera to imovie successfully.  At this point, I am wanting to burn these
three clips to a dvd.  can anyone help steer me down the right road.
    thanks

Hard to say which window that is at top resp bottom as they can switch.
Under the project window down to the right there is a PLUS sign. Press this to start a NEW Project
UNDER the iMovie menu at top (right to the Apple symbol) select Preferences and TURN ON Advanced tools !
From the other window - drag and drop the imported clips one at a time or select more at a time (but iMovie will have comments on this (but it doesn't matter ))
When clips are copied over to the new project and edited as You like them (shorted, text set and audio added at Your liking) - Then You can select Share - And do Share to Media Browser and as Large (not HD)

  • Iphoto will no longer download from camera

I have been using the earliest version of iphoto for several years and it worked great downloading from my Canon Powershot S1IS. About 6 months ago some of the images started coming in with parts grayed out, not all there, etc. Then it went through the entire download process with nothing showing up. I upgraded to iphoto 6. Now it tells me the images aren't a recognizable format. Any idea what the problem is? The camera/card works at digital output places???
    Mac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

You might try downloading and running the 10.4.9 COMBO updater followed by a repair of disk permissions. It's been noted and recommended by Apple for a number of fixes, especially when incremental updates have been applied via Software Update.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto opening and downloading from camera

Two problems: When I open iPhoto from Applications or from Dock, it doesn't open. I can search for a file and find one that is already in a file but am unable to get into the organize/edit/ library. Also, when downloading from my camera, the files do not go into the library. I can find the photo files by clicking on the camera icon, but i have to open them one by one. They do not just download and open in my iPhoto Library.

re: "There is nothing in Image Capture! Now?"
By "nothing in Image Capture", what exactly do you mean?
Did you open Image Capture and then go to the Image Capture Menu in your top menu bar then select its preferences and click on the "Camera" tab of its preferences and then click on the pop up menu and select which application (iPhoto?) to open when a camera is connected? Or is iPhoto selected and still does not open when you connect your camera?

    Hi Terence!

  • Downloading from Camera to computor

I can not down load from my camera  "HP Photosmart M447" to my computor.
Im using a HP CN731A model D110a Printer ,Scanner

    Hi,
    Something is missing here:
    1. If you wish to transfer photos from camera to your computer you have to
    Connecting to the computer
    a. Turn off the camera, connect the camera and computer using the USB cable that came with your camera, then turn on the camera. Your computer's provided image transfer software should start. Follow the on-screen instructions to transfer your images.
    b. When you have finished transferring images, disconnect the camera from the computer. If you encounter problems, set the camera’s USB Configuration to Disk Drive (see USB Configuration under “Using the Camera Setup Menu” on page 31) and reconnect to your computer.
    or
    Using a memory card reader
You can put your camera’s optional memory card into a (separately purchased) memory card reader. Some computers and HP Photosmart printers have built-in memory card slots which act as a memory card reader.
    a. Insert your camera’s memory card into the memory card reader (or into your computer’s memory card slot, if your computer has one).
    b. Your computer's image transfer software starts automatically and guides you through the process of transferring images.
    c. After verifying that the images were successfully transferred, return the memory card to your camera. If no application starts automatically or if you want to copy the images manually, look for the disk drive for the memory card, then copy the images to your local hard drive. For more information about how to copy files, refer to your computer's help.
    Source: Its manual
    2. In this case, you use the card reader on a printer. You need to map it to a network if your printer is active on a network, here is how:

  • I'd like to know how to get videos from Camera to imovie

I'm a new Mac user who has a video movies that I want to import into imovie project.
I've also purchased a fire wire, to facilitate the process. So far not successful. Help
    Thanks in advance.

What format are your movies? iMovie can import directly from your camera or camcorder, import from your iPhoto or Aperture Library or can import video files from the Finder, see:
    iMovie '11: Import video
What you cannot import are purchased videos protected by digital right management or video DVDs.
Here is tutorial video on importing into iMovie:  http://help.apple.com/imovie/movies/en/apple-ilife-imovie-tutorials_import_video -us-20101020_640x360.mov

  • Everio HDD, Footage from Camera to Imovie?

Have any of you guys dealt with the new (to me) Everio HDD camera? If so how do you get the footage over to Imovie? I uploaded the software on to the computer. The directions arent to clear to me so if you guys can help me out that'd be great.
    Thanks in advance! NomeNative

Bought one of these myself and I have had it for about a week.
I couldn't get the included software to work at all - it reported "A necessary Library is missing" - the helpdesk was useless.
Anyway searched the WWW and the consensus seems to be the included Mac software is poor and some users report that it renders the pictures badly (but maybe they used it incorrectly).
Of course, you want to convert without loss of quality. My Web searches indicated you get the best results by using "Mpeg Streamclip" which is a free download, but you also need Apple's "MPEG-2 playback" which is $19.99 (or 14.99GBP for me) - inc. taxes, no delivery charges - you download it.
    That worked great for me.
Here are the notes I made for myself:
FastImport of Everio Files to iMovie
    1. Create a New iMovie Project for DV (this matches the Everio quality)
    2. Create an alias of the Media component of the iMovie Project
    in the Movies folder
    3. Use MPEG Streamclip Batch Convert files to DV (DV25) 720 x 756 aspect ration 4:3 (16.9 ?) deinterlace at Zoom 100% X/Y=1 Center 0,0 (not selecting FrameBlending/BetterDownscaling/RsampleAudio/SplitDV/Cropping), putting (via an alias) the results in the Media component of the iMovie Project
    4. Close the iMovie project and re-open it - iMovie should then report the DV files are in the iMovie trash.
    5. Move (drag) the files from the iMovie trash to the timeline or clips.
    6. Save the iMovie project!!
This method avoids re-encoding the files twice. This is almost as good as iMovie supporting the .MOD (that is MPEG2) format. Otherwise if you create the .DV files first and then reimport them into iMovie
I am not sure the deinterlace is needed, but seems to avoid jaggies on individual frames - though I think it increases (doubles?) the .DV file sizes.
    Other things worh noting.
The 4:3 Movies from the camcorder are 768 x 756, but the 'DV' setting says 720. Dont be fooled by this: the re-encoded Movie is 'DV, 720 x 576 (768 x 576), Millions DV, Stereo, 48.000 kHz' with 768 x 576 pixels (Actual).
You can change the extension to the .MOD files to an MPEG-2 Playback File Type (.mpg, .mpeg, .vob(2), .vro, .m2v, .m2a, or .m2s) and open the files in QuickTime Player, but in that case you seem to loose the sound (at least I didn't get to to work). MPEG Streamclip produces a .DV file with the sound included.
Summary: I can't understand the reports of poor video quality for these cameras - it seems very good to me. Maybe there is an issue with the software supplied which then ruins what the camera captured. JVC would best advised to ship software that allows import into iMovie without loss of quality.

  • Importing from camera with iMovie onto computer with home on AFP share ...

I am trying to import a movie from a Sony Handycam into iMovie '08. iMovie can see the camera. The problem is that I cannot choose where to save the movie. I am only offered the choice of one of the two disks in my machine but am not given a chance to choose the actual folder location. Furthermore, the only choices are not write accessible to me.
I am guessing that iMovie doesn't want to import to my home/Movies because it is on an AFP share but why can't I choose the /Users/Shared folder (or any other location)?
Does the user that imports video into iMovie have to be an admin user?
The dialog that opens when I choose to import says "Save To:" but is not a proper (usual) file selection dialog. I only get two choices and they are internal disks not folders.
I know that Apple loves to work from the premise that they know best how I should do what I want to do but in this case I am actually totally prevented from doing what I want to do. I could actually log in as the admin user, import the movie (I'm assuming that would work) and then copy the files to my account. Any other suggestions would be welcome. Is there a way to specify the path for the import dialog?
(I am sitting on a gigabit ethernet network with a recent XServe and XServe RAID serving my home. I find it hard to believe that this couldn't handle a simple video import. It's not even HD.)

I am only offered the choice of one of the two disks in my machine but am not given a chance to choose the actual folder location. Furthermore, the only choices are not write accessible to me.
Other than the start-up drive user's account "Movies" folder, iMovie '08 only allows access to the "root" level of non-start-up drives which are the only areas it scans for "iMovie Events" folders during initialization. In addition, in order to access non-start-up drives, they must be formatted as "Mac Extended OS" drives.
I am guessing that iMovie doesn't want to import to my home/Movies because it is on an AFP share but why can't I choose the /Users/Shared folder (or any other location)?
    See above.

    No.

Finder level file operations performed external to iMovie '08 tend to corrupt pointers/reference paths unless they emulate what iMovie itself does in which case the initialization scan may be able to fix some problems.

Not familiar with such use so I don't know if this would automatically limit your access to root level storage area.

  • How download cs5 Camera raw update and how make Photoshop the default in the Bridge "open" menu?

Two problems  which have defeated me.
First, I have a new Canon  EOS 500D  and need to download the  recent  (July  2010) CS5 Camera Raw update. However both of my computers freeze when I move from the Adobe Support web page to the Download web page.  Is this a known problem? What to do about it? I am using CS 5 on a Windows 2007 XP computer.
Second, (probably related to the first)   opening a file in Photoshop is not listed among  Bridge's  "OPEN AS" options. Also,  the "OPEN"  Default is "PAINT". How do I set Photoshop as the "OPEN"  menu  default?
Thanks for your suggestions. I am truly befuddled by these  issues.
    JackIsaac

Sounds like something is really wrong with your computer, and it isn't clear what, but if you're just having issues getting to the download link for ACR:
Here is the download page for ACR 6.1 update:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4728
Here is the download page for the CS5 12.0.1 update:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4733
If those links don't work, you can probably find the same updates on the FTP site, although some things here are more than a decade old:
    ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/photoshop/
See if Bridge and ACR are any happier after installing these two updates.  Make sure you run them as Administrator.
If those still don't work for you, try another browser, where Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Google Chrome should all work.
    http://www.microsoft.com/ie
    http://www.firefox.com/
    http://www.google.com/chrome
There are numerous other browsers, as well, but they probably won't work if the above three don't.
Perhaps you either have a virus that you should scan for, or over-zealous internet-protection software that you could try disabling temporarily.
My favorite free virus/malware scanner is from www.MalwareBytes.com
The payfor version will automatically update itself and scan, but the free version works just as well except you have to manually update and scan.
