How HANA fits over SQL Db 2012 in a new BW installation setup
Hello,
We have new reporting setup. The ECC setup is about 300 GB.. We installed a BW 7.4 on SQL 2012 DB and BO 4.1 and BPC 10.1.
Since we are still in building the development server. We decided to rethink our strategy , why to go with SQL 2012 DB instead of HANA DB.. Is it still the cost ?. Do you have situation like this for a new setup ?
However , i get the rumor that the licensing cost for HANA is considerablely reduced. If we agreed to install HANA.. What would be the effort to migrate from SQL 2012 DB to HANA DB ?... Is it straight forward ?. or it requires all softwares like BW, BO, BPC to be reinstalled ?. I'm talking about a DB size here about 25 GB for now.. As i told you its still in a startup stage.
Please share your expert thoughts.

Hi Prashant,
If you have already installed BW 7.40 on SQL 2012 and you want to do migrate the same system then you can do in place migration using the tools like DMO.
And more over if get the real benefit of BW 7.40 if you move to HANA DB.

I know that when I try to connect Dreamweaver CS6 to a database, I only have the option to link it to MySQL and I'd like to change it, or at least, to add the SQL Server to the options list. Yes, you can link to MS SQL Server - as long as you're willing to code everything by hand. If you're looking for automated code generation, though, the answer is no.
Even the default PHP/MySQL server behaviors are not really worth considering for professional web development. They're fine for quick prototyping, but they use deprecated functions that are not suitable for a production environment. -

I have installed the SQL Server 2012 RTM and then SQL Server 2012 SP2 on top. I was under the impression that the "Programs and features" would allow me to uninstall the SP2 if necessary. There, I couldn't see any SQL Server 2012 SP2 but all
the components at the 11.2.5058 level, i.e. Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Setup? So, does it mean that I have to uninstall all components on the list from 11.2.5058 levels and presume that everything will rollback to 11.2.2100...? This is because you are looking at wrong place. Yes you need to go to add remove program but when you open that page there is no information about SP/CU updates. On top left side you need to click on
View installed updates and different screen would come there you can find SQL Server 2012 SP2

I am trying to create a new dev environment and I'm using VMware Player running Windows Server 2008R2 SP1. I am able to run through the setup checks but when I hit "Next" I receive the error above. Also, I am able to install this on my personal
computer - just not in my VM. Any way to solve this?

Edit: Just to clarify some things.
1) I am trying to install SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Edition.
2) I downloaded the .ISO file using my MSDN License and when I downloaded the file the text boxt next to it said that a product key was not required.
3) I went inside the setup directory and found the DefaultSetup.ini and there was a product key inside that has been confirmed by a rep to be a valid product key.Hello,
Try using WinRAR to unzip the ISO file to a local drive and install from there. Please do not use WinZIP.

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Management Studio Express silent installation very slow
Iam doing silent installations often on several Systems.
I install the Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Management Studio Express with this command:
"SQLManagementStudio_x64_DEU.exe /ACTION=INSTALL /QUIET /IAcceptSQLServerLicenseTerms="True" /FEATURES=CONN,BC,SSMS /indicateprogress"
The installation will take almost an hour to finish.
I never get error messages or so. The installation afterwards is fine.
Is there a way to speed up the installation process?

When installing SQL Server Management Studio, it is normal for us taking an hour to finish the installation.
Personally, if you want to speed up the installation process, I recommend improve your hardware device on your computer, such as CPU, RAM, hard disk and so on.
Or you can submit an submit the requirement at https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/.
If the requirement mentioned by customers for many times, the product team may consider to add or improve this requirement in the future SQL Server version. Thanks for your understanding.

How do I over-ride Firefox 4's refusal to allow installation of Torbutton v1.3.2-alpha?
The developer at the Tor Project has been testing Torbutton v1.3.2-alpha (unstable). Although not fully stable, it's being released for users to test. When I tried to install this alpha release from the 2nd link's page (look for "Install alhpa" on the page), Firefox 4 refused to allow completion of the installation. What I need to know, is how do I over-ride that refusal, to achieve installation?
Thanks for the replies. Yes, they were both helpful and informative. However, the bottom line is that in order to work around the compatibility problem, I'd need to do some re-programming of Firefox, with subsequent risk of "malfunctions or crashes". It's simpler and safer, to just abandon use of the version 4 as being fundamentally defective, uninstall it, and return to use of v3.6.3 which worked correctly most of the time. I appreciate your assistance!

I want to return an incremental number of rows, "so the query processor stops as soon as this number is reached." (From a Microsoft Press book.)

When I re installed Primavera with sample projects everything was ok until the mid of oracleXE installation I had an error message , I run Primavera P6 8.3 setup again and chose to repair installation , this time gave me installation finished.
When I run Primavera I am not able to connect to Database, even traces of old installation like Alias names which was previously used exists .
When I connect to database through web home page I can log in as “system” but it has only HR in it, and users are 12 internal and 1 HR with no ADMPRM$PM.
I don’t think that sample projects are downloaded,

No its not possible to convert standalone installation to cluster.Moreover first you need to configure Windows cluster then backup all SQL server databases logins jobs packages and install fresh instance of SQL Server in cluster aware mode

Thanks.I haven't heard of any news or information from Microsoft about plans for support of SQL Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 with SharePoint 2007, so the best source that I know to look at is their official TechNet documentation on software requirements for
the platform:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262485(v=office.12).aspx. That article states that it is supported on SQL Server versions 2000 through 2008 R2 and Windows Server versions 2003 through 2008 R2, as long as you keep SharePoint 2007 updated to
the proper service packs to support the given version (believe the R2 versions of the 2008 OS and Database engine both require at least SharePoint 2007 Service Pack 2).
There's not any information on the Service Pack 3 that indicates that it includes compatibility with the 2012 releases of Windows Server and SQL Server, so I don't think that's a possibility.
This is just my opinion, but I really don't think you're going to see compatibility with the 2012 releases happening for SharePoint 2007, for a couple of reasons. First, Microsoft's focus is on SharePoint 2010 and potential future releases for the SharePoint
platform. There are a lot of rumblings out there right now that vNext is rapidly approaching on the horizon, and in the past at times like this Microsoft has a track record of really not paying a whole lot of attention to vCurrent -1. The other reason is that
from a business standpoint Microsoft like to structure its software so that when a customer does an upgrade of one platform or system they often have to bring others along for the ride as well. In this case, if you want SharePoint 2007 to use those new OS
and SQL versions you're probably going to have to also upgrade SharePoint to 2010 to get it.
I know it can be frustrating, but that's how Microsoft approaches things and if we want to use their software those are the rules we have to abide by.

SQL Server 2012 installation problem (error server didn't respond in timely fashion ....)
Hi everyone,
I am new to SQL server....I am learning C# programming using visual studio 2013 . And I want to learn SQL database language to create and practice C# database project....My computer meets all the hardware requirement for SQL installation (i.e. My computer
has window 7 OS , 80 GB freen HD and 6 GB RAM. ) Therefore I download Microsoft SQL server express 2012 try to install it in my computer (which already has visual studio).
But during installation of SQL server I have problem ...it says
the server doesn't respond in timely fashion. When I research about it everyone were saying uninstall sql and reinstall again. I uninstall and re install but still having same problem...
The database engine also not installed displaying same error.
I don't know how can i install sql server 2012 to use with visual studio in same computer.
Can somebody please help with SQL installation please ?

I ran SQL Server 2012 express setup as user with administrator privileges and still it's failing to install "Database Engine Service" and "SQL Server Replication".
Any and every ideas on how to resolve this issue is greatly appreciated.Three weeks passed and I am yet to find a fix for the the failed installation of the database engine on sql server 2012 express installation. I have tried various work-around including uninstalling, deleting all the directory paths, and reinstallation. Still
not able to successfully install sql server 2012 express.

Can not install Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express on Win7, 64 bit, used on VS Studio 2010
I had a Win7 Ultimate 64bit, Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo, 4GB SDRAM, 500GB HDD. I have been used Visual
studio 2010, SQL Server 2008 R2 (SQL Management Studio), SQL Server Express2005, SQL Server Express2008, Microsoft Office 2010. I downloaded setup from microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29062,
after extract files which it's giving me an error message.
Anyone help me this issue.
