How is Default Char encoding for WebLogic determined ?

How is the defualt char encoding for a Weblogic server determined?
We have two environments each running Weblogic 5.1 sp8 on Solaris 7. One is production,other
is for testing.
For testing german characters I use a TestGlobal.jsp to read parameters using
servlet API. From the same browser I access this URL
http://www.xyz.com/TestGlobal.jsp?userName=Tschüß.
In one I get the param Tschüß correct in the other I get Tschýý
I know for sure both the properties file are exactly the same.
I also know that I can work it using the new char encoding property for western
european alphabts. I want to know how does this work without setting the char
encoding prop. How is weblogic recognising Tschüß without this prop being set.
Does the underlying OS make the difference ?
THanks
Atish

In this specific case there are no differences for code points storing character data because used character set is the same.
But what is your Oracle 4 digits version ?
Are you sure that database character set and national character set are the same ?
In recent Oracle versions, database character set and national character set are different. For example:
SQL> select * from nls_database_parameters where parameter like '%SET%';
PARAMETER                      VALUE
NLS_CHARACTERSET               AL32UTF8
NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET         AL16UTF16Edited by: P. Forstmann on 28 sept. 2011 18:51

  • Urgent help: how to create data source for Weblogic RMI driver

    Hi,
    Please let me how to create data source for Weblogic RMI driver using Administrator

    I understand that the following steps are required:

    DataSource will internally do that for you (It will use RMI internaly) . You
    dont have to worry about the details of using RMI driver. Thats what is a
    DataSource is for.

    Hi Sree,
    What u have written is abt configuting Datasource for type 2 and
    4 drivers.
    But I want to know how to create data source for RMI driver. If
    I map this datasource to connection pool that is created for
    type 2 or 4 drivers, i don't understand why RMI drivers are
    required in first place. If i do map the data source to connection pool
    created
    for type 2 or 4 drivers then where i
    would not have used the URL as jdbc:weblogic:rmi and Driver as
    weblogic.jdbc.rmi.Driver.
    Hope u will help me.

    Hi Pradeep
    To create a connection pool you have to use a database driver not RMI
    driver. So use a thin driver or the WebLogic jDriver for Oracle to setup
    your connection pool. Once the connection pool is created you can create
    a
    DataSource and use this datasource to connect to the database.
    The RMI driver can be used to get connections from the database via the
    connection pool and in that case you dont need a datasource. Recommended
    approach is to use a DataSource.

  • Changing the default char encoding of the current JVM ?!

    Is there any way that could be used to alter the default character encoding of the Java Virtual Machine at the start of a Java application?

    This seems a little dangerous...considering that file i/o etc depend on correct charset encodings for filenames, etc.
    However, perhaps you could try setting the file.encoding property on the command line:
    java -Dfile.encoding=Big5 YourApplication

  • Why did TB set the char encoding for a reply to charset=UTF-16LE ?

    I got a message from Google AdWords in HTML format and wrote a reply. When I sent it I got a timeout trying to send it. I use AVG antivirus to scan outgoing messages using a "local server" at address 127.0.0.1.
    Note that this was my second reply to such a message from AdWords. The only thing I could see that was different was a longer subject line (ending with three periods or dots) and a longer HTML message to which I was replying.
    I tried many things to fix the problem and I cannot remember them, sorry.
    Finally, I got success after truncating the message and the long subject line. The reply was sent instantly, as usual, instead of timing out.
    But it wasn't really success. When I looked at the sent message, the characters in my reply (only) were in Chinese. Looking at the raw (source) message, I see that the charset was set as follows: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-16LE; format=flowed .
    This seems like a strange charset; nowhere in my settings do I specify anything other than Western (ISO-8859-1).
    I finally was able to send the message successfully (I think) by using Options > Character Encoding > Western (ISO-8859-1), which seems to force the message to be sent using this standard encoding instead of Little Endian.
    What caused this problem to happen? Is there a TB overflow bug for long subject lines?
    I realize that TB is an old and unsupported product, but it seems to be the only good email client to use with Windows 8, so I'm just hoping someone knows something about this.

    I'm getting mad... The file (on the disk) is still not encoded in UTF-8

  • How to install BPM Enterprise for weblogic

    I need to install BPM Enterprise for Weblogic 10.3. However, the weblogic is installed in another machine. BPM and weblogic are installed in different machines.
    When I configure the BPM, how to set the weblogic home and workspace folder?

    Hi Ruben Vidaurre,
    Thanks for your reply.
    During the configuration of BPM after installation, I should key in the Weblogic Home address and select a folder for it. I can configure it and know where the weblogic home address is if weblogic server and BPM enterprise for weblogic are installed in the same machine.
    How to key in the weblogic home address if the weblogic is installed in another machine (BPM Enterprise for weblogic and weblogic are install in different machine) ?

  • As a webservice client, how to set character encoding for JAX-WS?

    I couldn't find the right API to set character encoding for a webservice client. What I did is
    1, wsimport which gives me MyService, MyPortType...
    2. Create new MyService
    3. Get MyPort from MyService
    4. Call myPort.myOperation with objects
    Where is the right place to set character encoding and how to set it? Thanks.

    -Jiaqi Guo

    The .js file and the html need to have the same encoding. If
    your html uses iso-8859-7, then the .js must also use that. But if
    the original text editor created the .js file using utf-8, then
    that is what the html needs to use.

  • How to evaluate workflow rule for agent determination

    Dear All:
    It seems there are several types of rules that can be used for agent determination. I am wondering how could I evaluate the rule in coding.
    I know for the rule described by a function module, it would be easy to evaluate it because you simply need to call the function module. However, for others, you might have to call the rule according to its definition. Is there a generic method/function to evaluate it?

  • How to run FVC utility for Weblogic server?

    Hi all,
    I want to use FVC(Form Version Controller) utility to update the database for some users.
    I have provided the required parameters in the "fvc.properties".
    When i run the utility from command prompt it is just printing the parameters given in the fvc properties file and the execution stops.
    When i check the database nothing is updated.
    I'm using BEA-Weblogic Version 8.1 as application server.
    But in another environment where I'm using OC4J as application server I'm able to run the FVC utility and it is also updating the database.
    Is there any other steps that we have to follow ,if we want to use this utility for Weblogic?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    The following is script found in fvcutil.cmd
    @echo off
    setlocal
    if "%1" == "" goto usage
    if "%2" == "" goto usage
    call classpath
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;.\lib\xlFvcUtil.jar;.\ext\jbossall-client.jar;.\ext\weblogic.jar;.\ext\oscache.jar;.\ext\javagroups-all.jar;.\ext\commons-logging.jar

    goto end
    :usage
    echo.
    echo "USAGE : fvcutil.cmd <USERNAME> <PASSWORD>"
    echo.
    :end
    endlocal
    authwl is set properly. But when we run this command we get only parameters given in the fvc property file.
    But when we run the same in another environment using (OC4J Application server) we are able to update the database using fvc.
    Please guide us out on this regard to execute the same in weblogic server enabled environment.
    Thanks

  • How to change default response encoding for not jsp files

    Hi
    Question about Weblogic Portal&Serwer 10.
    For standard web applications from war archiwes, html etc. files are send with default server response
    "Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1".
    The question is how to disable this default header
    or how to change this header to correct encoding.
    PS.
    I found solution only for ear' applications ...
    with file META-INF/weblogic-application.xml and webapp.encoding.default parameter. This works well for ear's.

    Thanks. I feel a bit like a dummy for not seeing that but so it goes. What I was looking for, in a perfect world, was to set a preference to permanently sert a default folder on an external drive to store the .dvdproj files once they are made.......but your suggestion is close enough to my original intention.
    Thanks again.

  • How to specify page encoding for XML reports.

    Hi,
    Environment: Apps:11.5.10, Oracle Reports: 10g
    I'm trying to generate XML tags by using a "rdf" report (10g).
    Initially I generated the XML tags before moving the report to server. In the output file I got
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="WINDOWS-1252"?>
    Then I moved the report to server and made the concurrent program output to XML.
    In the concurrent program output the tag is
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="&Encoding"?>
    The output shows error
    ===============
    XML Parsing Error: XML declaration not well-formed
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="&Encoding"?>
    Its clear that there is something wrong with page encoding format which has to get assigned while run time. But its not happening so.
    How to specify the page encoding format?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you
    BKR.

    Remove the encoding so it says:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    Also, you will get a similar error if your xml tags for fields contain any special characters like & or #.
