How link cells on different sheets?

I'M using Numbers 3.5 on a MBP.
How can I link a cell on sheet#1 to a cell on Sheet#2?

Don,
Your question is a little short on detail as to what you want to do, but I'll assume that you want the value in a cell in a table on one cheer to appear in a cell of a table on another sheet. In the cell where you ant to display the remote data, type and "=" and then click on the remote cell. The remote cell reference will be automatically placed in the calling cell.
The remote cell reference is written: =SheetName::TableName::CellAddress
For instance: =Sheet 2::Table 1::A1

  • Numbers: linking cells in different tables

    In Numbers, how can you copy the value from a cell in Table 1 to a cell in Table 2? The two cells must be linked so that when the value changes in Table 1 it changes in Table 2 as well.
    Thanks,

    Yes, Jerry, this is what I was attempting to do and I am surprised that Numbers doesn't allow this (you can 'link' cells in different files in Excel). I was beginning to realize this after your last message. I followed your instructions linking cells in the same sheet, and then linking cells in different sheets of the same file. Both worked a treat but as soon as I tried this with a different file, it wouldn't work.
    This is something for Apple to work on I guess.
    In the meantime, I will enter the value manually and get on with my life! My thanks again for your continued efforts to help.
    Happy New Year!

    ST,
    Linking between documents can be a can of worms, and is certainly not something that we could label as a basic requirement of a spreadsheet program. In your case, especially, it's probably best practice to isolate the years and not have the documents dependent on one another. Numbers has some nifty features, but it's not the 2-pound Swiss Army knife app that Excel is. There certainly are times when linking between documents would be handy, such as when different aspects of a project are in separate documents and need to be summarized. This would only be the case if the overall project size was very large, or if the project was divided up between different users.
    There are many more urgent needs, if the iWork team has time on their hands, such as improving the speed and capacity of the apps.
    Glad you are on your way.

  • Linking cells in different spreadsheets

    I need to link cells from different spreadsheets but cannot find a command in Numbers to do this. In Excel it is "Copy" from the first spreadsheet and then "Paste Special" into the second spreadsheet. I cannot find this function in any of the manuals or help files.
    Does anyone know how to accomplish this?

    Is it a living link that you wish to get ?
    If it is, the response is:
    no living link between different documents.
    Between two tables from the same document, you may build living links.
    Assuming that you want to link cell B2 of table 1 of sheet 5
    to cell B2 of table 12 of sheet 1
    click in cell B2 of table 1 of sheet 5
    type the character "="
    cell B2 of table 12 of sheet 1
    press return.
    In cell B2 of table 1 of sheet 5 you will get the formula
    =sheet 1::table 12 :: B2

  • Linking cells in different worksheets

    I'm sure this has been asked before, so I apologize. I am working on my Macbook Pro. I need to enter email addresses and phone numbers on different sheets in the same workbook. Is there a way to link the cells so I only have to enter the data once? The cell is 2E on my Financial Summary sheet and 2E on my enrollment sheet, but 4E on my Youth Sheet. I'm sure this is a very entry level question so I apologize! Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Hi cfomalley,
    The easiest way to do what you are asking is to type "=" in the cell you want to bring the value into, navigate to the cell you want to bring the value from and click into it. This will work fine if you are not going to do any sorting of the dependent table
    Some terms:
    Speadsheet, Document, File. These are equivalent. They can contain many Sheets.
    A sheet can contain many tables.
    If your tables have unique names you do not need to reverence the sheet.
    If I want the value in Enrollment Table to be the one the others draw from, then the formula in E4 of YouthTable would be "=Enrollment Table::E2".

  • How do I link fields on two different sheets? What I am trying to do is enter data on one sheet and at the same time in is entered on a second and sometimes third sheet at the same time

    PLEASE FORGIVE ME THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I AM USING THIS
    1) How do I get data entered into 2 or 3 fields on different sheets all at the same time?

    Hi David,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
    In Pages, you can have several sheets in a document, and several tables on a sheet. You can link cells between tables and sheets.
    You can not link from one document to another, but who needs to?
    To link cells from Table 1 on Sheet 1 to Table 1 on sheet 2,  click on destination cell, type =, then click on the source cell. Under the Insert menu, choose Fill if you wish to duplicate a range of cells.
    This is a bit different from Microsoft Windows Excel, but you will soon get the hang of it.
    You can download the Numbers User Guide from the Help menu.
    Happy Macintoshing!
    Ian.

  • How can I insert reference to cell on a different sheet in Numbers beta?

    In Excel or Numbers for iPad, I start typing in a cell, switch to another sheet and click a cell or range, hit enter, and I'm back on the original sheet with the cell reference inserted.  I saw documentation that it works the same way in Numbers Beta on Mac, but it doesn't.  When I leave the sheet, I'm not editing the cell anymore.
    Very frustrating.   This function is often necessary, and long formulas are tedious on iPad.  So far the most reliable method is to export back to Excel, make the change, and re-export to iCloud.

    I struggled with this same issue until this week.  You have to actually type references in cell.  And spacing is the key to making it work.  Make sure to put a space before and after each double colon.
    =SheetName :: B3
    =08 20 14 :: B3
    I you are linking to a different table in a sheet, you have to include the table name also.
    =08 20 14 :: No Shows :: D5

    How do I duplicate a sheet while also linking the corresponding cell values?
    I have a page that I want to duplicate, then add to the duplicated spreadsheet, while having the original cells linked so they are updated as I update the original sheet.  I've found tutorials on how to do this on excel, but I'm having trouble doing so on Numbers.

    Hi Millie,
    You wrote:
    "My recipe sheets include two tables. The first calculates the cost per item, the second table takes the original recipe and calculates along with the sales estimates. The latter of these tables are all the same format, so in each one column A lists the ingredient name, column D is the amount needed per week (column E is the unit - oz, pound, etc).    Could I then generate a search for "flour" etc. within column A of each of these tables?  Currently they are all named the "estimated sales" but I could change that."
    Shouldn't need to change the table name, unless the aim is to shorten the formula as written. That's assuming each sheet is named with the item being baked.
    With the same name for all these tables, the cell or range references to cells on these tables will be Recipe (sheet) name::estimated sales::cell or range ref
    With the recipe name used as the Table name (and that name being unique to the document) the sheet name may be omitted from the cell/range address: Recipe name::cell or range ref

  • How can i use a number from a cell in a different sheet into a new sheet

    I am using 2 different sheets.
    I want to use into the second one the resulting number from a cell from the first sheet.

    Hi jpmarty,
    If you mean "documents" when you say" sheet" then I can save you some time. No, you cannot reference a cell in a different file or document. There are some people that will write applescripts to do that but they will not work in iOS.
    If both sheets are in the same document:
    Tap "=" in the cell you want the value in, tap the upward arrow that appears to the right, then navigate to the first sheet and click in the cell you want the value from. tap the check.

  • Can't link to a cell in another sheet at certain point

    Hello,
    this is the first time I use the support communities.
    I have a continuing promblem with numbers ( v. 2.3). I'm working on a projekt for my univerity and are quite familiar with number. But at a certain point it get's impossible to link to another cell on a different sheet! This works fine until a certain point (which I actually don't know).....
    I do the same stuff which I did very often before but it dosent work....
    1. I click on the cell I want to have the linked value in it
    2. I press = to start linking.
    3. I go to the cell i want to take the data from (in another sheet).
    4. The Box becomes white with the name and position of the source cell in it. But when I klick enter it dosn't work....
    I really don't have an idea what this could be... It worke fine in the same way before a few hundered times... Is there any limitation of link's between the single sheets or something?
    I'm very glad for any help in this issue
    Regards,
    Gregor

    On your last screenshot, you had moved off of the cell you were working on. The resulting formula/reference was not shown.
    Becasue it is not in English, it is hard for me to tell for sure what might be going on.  The reference in your third screnshot looked odd to me.  In English it would be one of the following forms when referencing a cell on a different sheet:
    Sheet name::Table Name::Cell address
    Table Name::Cell Address
    or, if "use header names as cell addresses" is on
    Sheet name::Table name::column name row name
    Table name:: column name row name
    column name row name
    The reference shown in your third screenshot doesn't seem to fit that pattern
    I am assuming if you look at your resulting formula, the cell reference is not in a colored oval, it looks like plain text.
    I've seen header names get misinterpreted by Numbers, like it can't figure them out and make a reference from them. If you are using header names as cell references, changing the names can fix it.  Turning off that feature might also fix it. I don't use that feature usually; it often makes my formulas too long and complicated.
    I have not seen a similiar problem with table and sheet names but you could try changing them to see if it helps.
    Sometimes Numbers simply has a problem with a reference and you have to start over with the formula and it will work the next time. I don't know why, it just happens sometimes.

  • Linking a cell from different files

    Does anyone know how to link a cell of file to another cell of a file on Numbers on icloud? I am not tallking about linking a cell from one sheet to another sheet of the same file. I know how to do that. I am trying to create a summary file for grades from data of multiple files. Thank you for you're feedback.

    AppleScript can do this in Numbers on the Mac. But I don't think it is possible in Numbers for iCloud.

  • How to see origin range when chart on different sheet

    When a chart is on a different sheet from the origin table, how can I see the origin cell range?
    I can select the chart, but when I switch to the sheet with the table,the origin cells are not highlighted/coloured, making it impossible to extend the origin range (to include a newly added row, for instance).
    How can I easily extend the range of a selection charted on another sheet?

    Hello
    I apologises, I didn't take care to the fact that datas where grabbed from different sheets.
    I tested with datas from different tables belonging to a single sheet.
    When you move the chart uses datas from different sheets I know no other soluce than moving the chart to find the the shheet in which cells are highlighted.
    To get rid of that my own tip would be to use an auxiliary table containing references to all the blocks of data to chart. The chart would be drawn from this auxiliary table.
    So, selecting the chart would highlight the source cells in the auxiliary table where we will find the formulas referencing the original cells.
    I hope that my poor english was clear enough.
    If necessary you may translate it in plain english
