How make DNS for real fault tolerance?

Hi,
Is there any change to make DNS-server fault tolerance for clients (member servers and applications)
Scenario:
Primary and Secodary DNS (not AD-integrated)
If we like to move or rebuild crashed DNS-server from old to new host, there will came service brake for one DNS-server (new server is up and running some time before DNS have been configured (you can ping it and icmp response)),
DNS-client is happy for that thus there is no DNS-service or zones and not use secondary DNS-server cause server answer with ICMP and criticals softwares stop working. Is there any change for DNS real fault tolerance?
I have understood this feature is same in Windows world and non-Windows world

Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that there will came service brake for one DNS server when moving or rebuilding crashed DNS-server from old to new host.
There are 2 DNS servers: primary and secondary DNS server, both are not AD-Integrated.
DNS design specifications recommend that at least 2 DNS servers be used to host each zone. For standard primary-type zones, a secondary server is required to add and configure the zone to appear to other DNS servers in the network. This design may provide
a basic level of fault tolerance for resolving names. Once primary DNS server crashes, secondary DNS server is ready only and can’t process update requests, so we need to manually change the secondary server to primary, and then try to repair the crashed one
or add another DNS server.
Comparatively, AD-Integrated primary zones, secondary servers are supported but not required for this purpose. For example, two DNS servers running on domain controllers can be redundant primary servers for a zone, providing the same benefits of adding a
secondary server while including additional advantages.
Depending on your need, and choose a better one.

Eve Wang

  • How do I create a fault-tolerant DLL call from LV?

I've created an .exe from a VI that calls a DLL, when that DLL crashes,
it crashes the whole application.  This DLL is too complicated to
completely debug and it, in turn calls DLLs I have no control
over.  It crashes approximately once every 100,000 iterations.
How do I make a DLL call fault-tolerent?
    Attachments:
    crash.gif ‏19 KB

I might not have been very clear in my answer - this isn't a feature that CAN be added to LabVIEW...the DLL threw an unhandled exception across a DLL interface - which pretty much means a system exception (code shouldn't be throwing language exceptions across DLL boundaries as they are language specific). This means that something went very wrong with the code and there is a good chance that the process space has been corrupted. And from my own debugging experience, if it's only crashing 1 time out of 100,000, that doesn't mean it isn't corrupting memory or otherwise causing problems...it was just the time it was caught.
Considering this, the Call Library Node already is fault tolerant - we catch the exception and report it to the user. You have a valid position that we should simply return this as an error. It's also a valid position that it would be a road paved with good intentions. All you need to do is remember what life was like in Windows 3.1 - where one process could silently corrupt another - to realize the amount of untraceable errors that could occur. Yes, the error out value should be handled by the user, but when an application of 100's or 1000's of VIs crashes seemingly at random because someone didn't, you can see the problem.
I will say I like the idea of a separate memory space. It is unfortunate that Windows only offers that through creating a separate process, but it is a neat idea. I worked in the VXI/VME world for a while, which does have multiple address spaces.
BTW - using signal handlers to catch exceptions is unfortunately not a 100% solution...signals are a partial port of a Unix concept in Windows. You would be best to use SEH around the call (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/vccelng/htm/key_s-z_4.asp). If the DLL is already a C++ DLL, then you can use the global catch of C++ instead
    int err = 0;
    try {
    } catch(...) {
       err = -1;
Again, you still are at risk of a corrupted process, but this allows you to avoid our handling of it.
Having spent years writing and (god help me) debugging device drivers, I love this topic. If you want to talk more about it and various options, feel free to shoot me an email at [email protected].

  • Cisco Speech Connect Network Fault Tolerance

    Hi,
I have redundant core network infrastructure. Is there any way to do Network Fault Tolerance in cisco speech connect like the one in Cisco CallManager (5.x and later)?
    Thanks,
    Ashraf

As of the latest version of Speech Connect version 1.0.3 there is no support for Network Fault Tolerance.
You could speak to a Cisco account rep and request this feature enhancement be considered for future versions.

  • Fault tolerance for network printing

What options are available to provide fault tolerance for network printing?  Currently, all our shared printers are on ServerA.  Is it possible to have similar shared printers on ServerB and have the clients automatically switch to Server B if
Server A became unavailable?  We don't care about load balancing as much as fault tolerance.  Thanks to all who post!

    A failover cluster node ? (not in nlb;
Servers in a Network Load Balancing (NLB) failover cluster cannot be used as print servers in Windows Server 2008 )
For environments that require high availability, you can use a failover cluster as a print server.  If a node in the cluster fails, all print functionality will fail over to the next node in the cluster.  To improve failover times, we recommend
that the administrator for the cluster force failover to each node when new print drivers are installed on the server.  During a failover, the driver installation is forced to occur on the active node.  The installation of the driver on each node
can require several minutes. Forcing this installation process during maintenance will make sure that any unplanned failovers during usual operation will be very quick, because the drivers will already be installed on each node.

  • Experience VMware Fault Tolerance with Central Services/SRM for Appl Servs?

Hello all, I am looking for real-life experience of VMware Fault Tolerance enabled for SAP Central Services (ABAP/Java). FT is valid only for 1 vCPU VM's, therefor a probable good match with CS. Tips & trics are welcome.
If SRM is available, is it worthwhile to use it for protecting Application Servers in a dual datacenter? That way, the full capacity is guaranteed even after a disaster (resources should be available of course in the surviving DC).
So, are the VMware features like SRM and FT actually being used to protect SAP environments, and if yes, to any satisfaction?
Thanks in advance for your replies,
    Roland

    Hi Roland,
Did you finally use VMWare Fault Tolerance ? what has been your experience?

  • Using iMovie 10.0 my project say it's 10 hours when it's 25 minutes for real, how do I fix this?

Using iMovie 10.0 my project say it's 10 hours when it's 25 minutes for real, how do I fix this?

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!

  • How to set up with cacheing DNS for local network?

Our new Lion Server has a static IP Address pointed to over the internet by our registrar's zone file. Planning the Lion Server installation process with the intent of hosting Web, Mail and Open Directory services to a small number of users who are nearly all located off-site. I do also want Lion Server to be a caching DNS Server and DHCP authority on the local network to replace what dnsmasq does on our current Linux server.
I am looking forward to offloading some of the lower level Linux administration tasks and putting myself in the hands of the Lion Server Setup Assistant and Server App :-) but at the same time don't understand some of  its assumptions and fear having to spend a lot of time experimenting and re-installing.
So, specifically, I want the Server App to know that my Lion Server has a "Host Name for the Internet" but that the DNS it sets up will not be the DNS for my zone - I will be managing that through my registrar's interfaces.
Second problem is my fnot understanding what name space devices on the local network will / should use. e.g.  The Linux server will be available for backups etc  on the local intranet (and optionally have a static ip address on the Internet) but MacBooks, PCs, iPads and iPhones will be served ip addresses by the Lion Server's DHCP. So will / should these dynamic devices have their machine names fully qualified by our domain name with RFC 1918 style ip addresses or something like .local?  How do I tell this to Lion's Server App / Setup Assistant? How easy is it to update these initial settings later?

You do indeed need to have a master zone on lion server.  There's no way to get around that since Open Directory depends on Kerberos and Kerberos depends on the DNS.  LS scripts may see that the rDNS record exists, but I highly doubt that it'll auto configure everything for you... and given the number of possible variables, I bet that even if it worked something would need additional tweaking.
Sounds like an interesting lab excersize.  You should try it on a test server!
Again... you just need to folow the set up procedure that Lion Server presents you with.
It won't be smart enough to see your external records and use them to configure a key distribution center for your OD.
As far as your caching needs...  Could you set up your DHCP server to set the DNS server setting to show your internal server as the first hit, and your external as the second?  That way when the client requests a resolution it'll not get a hit on your local server but will from the external?
The question then is how long will it wait for a response from the first server?  Or will the first server respond with "I don't know" sending the client immediately to the second.
The server set up that I have works similarly.  I have an internal master DNS that is replicated to a secondary.  The first DNS has an A record (community.server.com) that points to the INTERNAL ip address of the secondary server that's also running the web service.  The first server is running DHCP.  It tells the clients to use the first and second servers as it's DNS lookup.
Now...  Externally, my registrar hosts an A record for community.server.com that points to the external IP address of my router which then forwards the request to the proper port on the internal network.
This way, the local clients internally look up and get a response locally when they go for community.server.com.  Externally, clients that look up community.server.com get the external connection to the router in my school.
Yikes...  I fear that this is as clear as mud!

  • How to make suggestion for improvements in LR

How do I make suggestions for new features or improvements in LR?
The stacking function, IMO, needs to be improved.  The time between shots does not take into account the length of exposure.  For example if my exposure is 5 seconds the stacking exposure will not add the two exposures together in the time setting < 4 seconds.
Ideally I would like to see an HDR stacking function, looks at time between exposures (taking into account the length of exposure) and changes in exposure.
ideally there would be similar options for pans and focus stacking.
    Thanks

  • How to make entry for transit loss in the system

    Hello to all,
I am having an issue with one subCon material.
    Suppose,
Material A is the product required of 3000 MT Qty.
SubCon vendor have sent that qty, but there is a transit loss of 500 MT.
How to make entry for this transit loss in the system.
    regards,
    Anisha

correct me if i am wrong-
    ur scenario is
    for making material A ,
3000 MT of material B required.
but for producing A vendor uses 3500MT of B
solution : if this ia the case then u can overwrite the value of B at GRN from 3000MT to 3500MT.
    OR
    ur scenario is -
    u require material A of 3000MT
    vendor sends u 3000MT
    but actualy u recieve 2500MT
and u have to pay for 3000MT as per bill
solution : if this is ur scenario then.
prerequisite-activate direct posting to G/L and material at MIRO
Path - SPRO->MM->LIV->activate direct posting to G/L and material at MIRO.
    now procedure is -
step 1) do GR for 2500MT
step2) in LIV pay to vendor for 3000MT for that put 500 qty in material tab and the relavent amount.
in this way loss in transite will be book on inventory.
    regards,
    sujit

My Nano is full and I can no longer sync more music. How do I delete duplicate songs on the Nano to make room for syncing more songs?

I had the same problem today and was able to resolve it without having to do a restore or reset. The problem had something to do with my mail accounts. The upgrade reset my mail settings, switching both my gmail and my .mac mail to "archive all mail". I went into the General Settings, disabled that setting, and resynced the phone. The "other" storage allottment dropped back down to less than a gig.
Before you restore or reset, I would try that first.

  • How to make report for last 24 hours?

    Hello,
I have a little problem, I can't make report for last 24 hours.
    Example:
If I am running report on 2.1.06 at 14:00, I want to get results from 1.1.06 14:00 to 2.1.06 14:00.
How do i make a report with this selection?
    Because,if I choose date from 1.1.06 to 2.1.06 and
hour 14:00 to 14:00, I will only get results on 1st and 2nd on 14:00.
    If I choose 1.1.06 and 2.1.06, 14:00 to 24:00, I won't get results for 2.1.06 from 0:00 to 14:00.
Because all selections use AND to get results.
How can I choose that system compare selections with OR?
How can I get results for last 24 hours?
    Best regards,

    Hi,
define a structure in your query with two entries. First one with 1.1. and > 14:00 and second one with 2.2. and < 14:00. Perhaps you need to fill the structure by user exits.
    Hope it helps,
    Leo
