    No, you need the Reports Server (as part of the Application Server or Weblogic, depending on your version).
    I try to save the report, it's saved as .jspThat depends. You can save it as a .rdf file too (so called Paper Layout). I think this option is used more often.

  • Help running a simple jsp file,Tomcat 5.0.16

    Hi,
    This question may be addressed many many times,but do reply.
    I have a Win xp operating system
    Installed Tomcat 5.0.16 in it.
    Next the directory structure
    PS : The sampleapp directory is outside the tomcat installation directory.
    E:/sampleapp
    | |
    ROOT WEB-INF
    |
    classes
    |
    <package1><structure> .class files (for servlet works fine!!!!)
    in the WEB-INF,there is the web.xml,then sourcefiles<dir> and the lib directory which is empty.
    Now the servlet files work fine.........
    I have placed my MyJsp.jsp file in the above mentioned ROOT directory.
    I have not done any thing with the <TOMCAT_HOME>/conf/server.xml file
    and the web.xml which I have written.
    When I give the following URI
    http://localhost:8080/sampleapp/MyJsp.jsp,
    I get the HTTP status 404- /MyJsp.jsp
    description: The requested resource (/MyJsp.jsp) is not available.
    Hoping that I have defined the problem specifically.Kindly show some light on this.
    Thanks
    AS

    Nevermind. I just found the answer. For the record, there are two ways in getting JSPs to work:
    1. Precompiling the JSPs and modifying your webapp's web.xml file with the XML fragment generated in YourWebApp/web/WEB-INF/generated_web.xml;
    2. Not precompiling the JSPs, but simply letting tomcat compile it on the fly on first access.
    PRECOMPILATION METHOD
    Go to http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-5.0-doc/jasper-howto.html. Copy-and-paste the ant script under the section "Web Application Compilation" into a file called compile.xml. For me, I save it in ~/development/compile.xml. Then compile the JSPs using the command (all in a single line):
    $ANT_HOME/ant -file <PATH_TO_COMPILE.XML> -Dtomcat.home=<$TOMCAT_HOME> -Dwebapp.path=<$WEBAPP_PATH>
    In my case, I cd into the directory where my app resides:
    cd ~/development/HelloWorld
    and then I type:
    ant -file ~/development/compile.xml -Dtomcat.home=/var/tomcat5 -Dwebapp.path=.
    (Note the trailing dot since my current directory is my webapp's directory itself. Also, in my case, my shell's PATH contains the path to the ant executable, so I just type 'ant' directly.)
    Open the file ~/development/HelloWorld/web/WEB-INF/generated_web.xml and follow the instructions in that auto-generated file, which is: "Place this fragment in the web.xml before all icon, display-name, description, distributable, and context-param elements."
    The web.xml referred to above is YOUR web.xml. In my case, it is the one in ~/development/HelloWorld/web/WEB-INF/web.xml
    When ready to deploy, type:
    ant dist
    as usual. Deploy the .war file in the dist directory as you normally would. In my case, I do:
    rm -rf $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/hello* (removes my HelloWorld webapp directory and its war file)
    cp ~/development/HelloWorld/dist/hello.war $CATALINA_HOME/webapps
    and wait for tomcat to unravel the war file. I can then access the JSP page based on whatever the generated_web.xml had specified. In my case, it would be http://localhost:8080/hello/sample.jsp
    NON-PRECOMPILATION METHOD
    Copy tools.jar from the Java JDK into tomcat's common/lib. (I found this only in the error message in tomcat's log file!! Didn't find it anywhere else!!). Do this one time only, then restart tomcat:
    cp $JAVA_HOME/lib/tools.jar $CATALINA_HOME/common/lib
    Restart tomcat.
    Deploy your webapp as usual which will include your JSP files stored under your webapp's 'web' directory. No precompilation of JSPs is required. Then access your JSP pages such as http://localhost:8080/HelloWorld/my-jsp-page.jsp and tomcat will compile it on the fly on first access. The disadvantage is that there will be a slight delay on first access.
    [Note:  I am putting all this down for the record, because it took me MANY HOURS to figure all this out as the info on how to do this is not found clearly in one place!!  Hope this helps others.]
    My next step is to incorporate the contents of compile.xml as mentioned above, into my regular build.xml file.

  • How to test the simple .java file in cactus

    dear friends,
    i have use the junit first time .And i am working in weblogic8.1 so i have use cactus .But i face the problem to use it.
    1. how to test the simple .java file in cactus.
    2.how to run the cactus in weblogic 8.1.

    Hi,
    It is because the converter works on byte code and it only supports a subset of the Java language (see the JC specifications). It is kind of like compiling you code on Java 6 and trying to run it on Java 5. The JCDK outlines the required compiler version.
    Cheers,

  • How can I use the same object in the different jsp files?

    I am doing a project. I have finished my jave source files and compiled them successfully. And I also wrote a main method to test my classes, they also worked well. Now I am trying to use my jave code in the jsp files. But I meet a problem, in my method of java source file, I can generate a object of a class, and use it in the whole main method. But in the different jsp files, how can I do same thing?
    For example, in the .java file,
    Vector vl = new Vector();
    While ...{
    vl.add(...)
    In each of my .jsp file I want to do one loop of the above, meanwhile I want to do that in the same object.
    I hope you can understand what I mean. Really need your help!

    put your object into a session and you can the use it in all the jsps as long as the session is valid. Or you could create a static variable in the class that only creates one instance off an object and then create a static method to return this object.

  • How to store a JSP file in the SAP Application server ?

    My reqt. is as follows :
    1. I need to store a JSP File on the SAP Application server .
    How can I do this ?
    2. I want to call the uploaded jsp file from the server and call this jsp from abap to view the result of it .
    How can I achieve this ?
    First of all is this possible ?
    Regards,
    Deepu.K

    Hello Mike,
    Thanks for ur reply.
    I've imported the JSP as a mime object into the BSP.
    Now I've created the page to show that Mime Object as an image.
    But nothing is coming as an output.
    But then,there is an option for that mime object. i.e when I right click on the mime object there is an option called " convert to BSP".
    I selected that option and it created a view in my BSP .( My BSP is a page with flow logic application )
    Now how should i make this view to be an output ?
    I guess this shud be posted in the BSP Forum ...but still taking a chance here :)-

  • Can't us Oracle API on the simple JSP pages added to the portlet........

    Hi,
    I added a jsp page in the portlet which is not a standard page like the default show mode pages. I have added some code which actually access a resource inside the porltet.
    " img src="<%= UrlUtils.constructResourceURL (pReq, HttpPortletRendererUtil .absoluteLink(request, "icon.png")) %> "
    For that you have to add the following two imports in the code
    mport="oracle.portal.provider.v2.render.http.HttpPortletRendererUtil"
    import="oracle.portal.provider.v2.url.UrlUtils"
    This library is available with the JDeveloper and I dont get any error while compiling and even deploying the portlet war file on the applcation server. Strangely the same piece of code shows the image perfectly for the default show page of the portlet but it generates 500 Internal server error for the other simple jsp page I added, which suggests that the server is unable to find the function:

    Thanks Nrintala. I tried to work with multipage portlet example provided in the jpdk. In fact I created another portlet with two pages and copied the code of the two pages of the multipage portlet. (Off course I took care of the names and stuff). Later I modified the provider.xml by defining "next_page" parameter. When I viewed my portlet, first page appeared fine but when I click on the link which should show the second page, I got an error which says.
    Error:      Error occurred while rendering portlet - see provider log file for details.
    Do you think I have missed something? I am depoying my war file on the stand alone OC4J and some how I have not been able to find the application.log file in my application inside the application_deployments of the J2EE_HOME. I have pasted the provider.xml file and I would be grateful if you can help.

    <provider class="oracle.portal.provider.v2.DefaultProviderDefinition">

  • How to add existing jsp file to a project?

    I am trying out 10g developer preview. Looks like a lot of bugs are there in the tool. I would like to know how to add existing jsp file into a project. I tried the Import functionality, but it shows the option to create a project and include only Java files. Is there a way to do this? Thank you

    Just copy the files in the directory where the rest of your source file is.

  • How to send a JSP file in a MAU patch

    Hi friends,
    We need to send a patch for enhancement, which contains classes and a JSP file also.  So, we know how to send class files, but we are not aware of how to send a JSP file in the patch.
    Please help us if anybody know this.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ravi

    Hi Ravi,
    <b>Is is possible to update this jar file or to change some mappings?</b>--->I think you can not update the application.jar file.
    Let me know one thing, while you creating war file from NWDS/Eclipse did you compile JSP pages as Precompiled class files. If you did that, your application will not point JSP pages that you applied as patches.
    Is your application is in production phase? If yes, my first suggestion is..If you have updated application.jar file, apply the application.jar file as patch.
    If your application is not in production phase....best option is, again create a war file as pre-compiled jsp pages, and make changes in NWDS that the compiled class files should loaded as application.jar file. Then you can apply patches easily.
    Hope this helps you..

    Murthy
