How should I report forum performance issues?

The forums rely heavily on the caching features of browsers to improve the speed of page rendering. Performance of these forums should greatly improve after a few pages because more and more of the images, css and javascript is cached in the browser. As a consequence, when reporting forums performance issues the report should include some information on the state of the browser cache to determine whether the issue is a browser issue or a server issue. Such detailed information is generally not available from just watching the browser screen, but needs to come from specialized tools such as performance monitor plugins and recording proxies.
The preferred report method for performance issues is to use the speed reporting features build into or available as a plugin for a browser for both the page you want to report a problem with and several refence pages in the site. Detailed instructions are listed below separated out for different browsers. If possible, please use Firefox for submitting the report because it provides an export format that can be read back electronically.
Known performance issues
The performance issues with any screen with a Rich Text Editor, such as the Reply window and the compose Private Message window have been acknowleged and improvements are being implemented.
Mozilla Firefox (preferred)
Warning: it is currently not recommended to generate a speed report when logged in. The speed report has enough detail for somebody else to hijack your session and impersonate you on the forums. If you really must report while logged in, make sure you log out your browser after generating the speed report and wait at least 4 hours before posting.

When you report a performance problem please attach the 6 exports from the Firebug Net panel and an explanation of how you are experiencing the issues (for instance how much slower it is then normal) and include a description of your internet connection (dial-up, dsl, cable etc.) and the country from where you are connecting. If you have non-standard tweaks to your Firefox configuration (such as pipelining enabled) or are running any plugins please include that information in your report as well.

Since Google Chrome does not have an export format for the Resource Tracking information best current practice is to take a screenshot and note the hover details for any resource with a tail that is longer then 25% of the total load time. When you report a performance problem please attach the screenshots and an explanation of how you are experiencing the issues (for instance how much slower it is then normal)  and include a description of your internet connection (dial-up, dsl, cable etc.) and the country from where you are connecting.
Apple Safari
The Apple Safari Web Inspector has a Resources panel similar to the Resources panel in the Google Chrome developer tools. To get there, follow these steps:
Show the menu bar.
Go to preferences
Go to the Advanced Tab
Check “Show  Develop menu in menu bar”.
From the Develop menu select “Show Web  Inspector”.
Collecting the performance information and exporting works exactly the same as in Google Chrome. Please refer to the instructions for Google Chrome.
Microsoft Internet Explorer
IE does not have native features to analyze web traffic. No plugins have been found that produce the required information (please let us know if we missed any). For now, please reproduce the issue with Firefox, Chrome or Safari.
Please note that due to the reliance on Javascript for the interactive effects the performance of these forums will be much better on MS IE 8 then on previous versions of MS IE.

  • SQL Services 2012 Reporting Services Performance Issue - PowerView

Power view Reports are loading very slow while opening in SharePoint 2013, it is taking more than 15 secs. It is development environment, maximum 10 users , no traffic at all but still not sure why it is taking such long time.
We have 2 servers in SharePoint farm one is for SharePoint and other is for SQL. I have gone through the logs in reporting database, attached the same below. Can you please help me what we can say from the sheet attached ,whether it is slow or fast. Or where
    we are having issue.
SQL server version is SQL 2012 SP2.
    SharePoint 2013 is RTM.
Gone through the below blogs but no luck.

    Hi Ram Ch,
According to your description, your have performance issue when running your Power View report. Right?
In this scenario, based on your screenshot, it takes long time on data retrieval. How is the performance when executing the query in SQL Server Management Studio? Since you mention there's no traffic at all and 15 seconds will not cause query
time out, we suggest you optimize the query for retrieving data. Please refer to links below:

Please share some detail information about the data query if possible. Thanks.

  • How to Improve Report View performance

Hi All, i have a webi report which runs about 3 minutes. But when i click on view the report takes about 21 seconds(average) or so to open up. Any ideas on how to improve the report view performance? Does it have anything to do with server load? Any server settings to tweak to speed it up? Any ideas are appreciated.
The requirement is that my web team has to strip off the Business Objects logo etc(using sdk), and display the report in my company web page, so its
looking sort of ugly as the web page is taking about 21 seconds just to display the report.
    Some Report statistics:
Report size is about 90 MB, as it has about 300 k rows of data(which i am aggregating using formulas)
Report has about 15 simple division formulas
Report is in Drill Mode. There are about 5 drill filters
    Thanks,
    Kon

    Hi Larry,
I'll assume you are scheduling this report and viewing the instance in ~21 seconds.  Is that correct?
We definitely need some environment info to go along with this post.  Like Simone said, Product Version, Patch Level, and other OS, Hardware, App Server details would help as well.
There are certain properties of a document that can slow down the rendering of a report but we generally have to look at the logs to determine what part of the report is taking the longest time to process.  Assuming this is an instance, I would be curious to know if it is quicker to come up if you immediately view it a second time?
If you were to turn on a trace, you would see a number of lines like this:
    2011/06/15 20:11:54.153|>=| | | 7676|7436|{|||||||||||||||C3_DPSerialization:ContextPromptList_StreamUnit_SerializeOut
    2011/06/15 20:11:54.153|>=| | | 7676|7436|}|||||||||||||||C3_DPSerialization:ContextPromptList_StreamUnit_SerializeOut: 0
    2011/06/15 20:11:54.153|>=| | | 7676|7436|{|||||||||||||||C3_DPSerialization:cdbSQLStreamUnit_SerializeOut
    2011/06/15 20:11:54.168|>=| | | 7676|7436|}|||||||||||||||C3_DPSerialization:cdbSQLStreamUnit_SerializeOut: 0.015
    2011/06/15 20:11:54.168|>=| | | 7676|7436|}|||||||||||||||C3_DPSerialization:QTDP_StreamUnit_SerializeOut: 0.015
    2011/06/15 20:11:54.168|>=| | | 7676|7436|}|||||||||||||||C3_QTDataprovider:SaveMe_Serial: 0.015
    2011/06/15 20:11:54.168|>=| | | 7676|7436|}|||||||||||||||C3_QTDataprovider:SaveAll_Serial: 0.015
The numbers at the end are how long the function took to run.  Generally the function gives us an idea of what the engine was doing.
When evaluating performance issues, you can occasionally find a function that is taking long to run within the logs and based on the function and module names, it can sometime lead you to the reason it is taking longer than expected.
Another good test might be to run a very basic report to see how long it takes to come up.  Even a report without a datasource would suffice as that will give you your baseline time on how long it takes to load the viewer, convert the WID file to XML and send it up through the application server to your browser.  If a test report takes 15 seconds to view, then you are really only looking at 6 seconds for this other report.
Hope this helps and gets you started.  More environment info would help take it further.
    Thanks

  • How do I correct universe performance issue?

We are trying to complete an upgrade from BO XIr2 to 3.1 SP3.  We have one universe (out of about 30) that is having serious performance issues in 3.1.  The universe is slow to import (takes less than 5 min in XI r2 and more than 20 min in 3.1) and reports using it take about 5 times longer to run in 3.1 than in XI r2.  I have already worked a ticket with support.  All they provided was an adapt about Webi reports running slower in 3.1 than in XI that's supposed to be fixed with FixPack 3.6.  This is rather vague and doesn't really help us get through a production upgrade that's scheduled for May.  I've already checked all the unvierse settings and Webi report server settings to verify that the options that do exist in both XI and 3.1 are the same.  Both versions of the universe are pointed to the same Oracle data source.  I've worked with our DBAs to troubleshoot.  The behavior on the database side is different in 3.1 than in XI but I don't know how to tweak it.  When a report is run in XI, the database sessions run in parallel.  When the same report is run in 3.1, the sessions are serial first and eventually go to parallel but are still considerably slower to run the exact same SQL.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

    Hi,
       Are you referring to ADAPT01453709?
From what I have gathered, this is an known issue and had since been escalated to the SAP developer. There were several releases already been made. The earliest official release to public will be on FP 3.6, (ETA Jun 2011).
You may want to check with the engineer that worked on your current incident to understand exactly what is fixed/addressed in FP 3.6. I suspect the fixes is on the symantic layer, not something you can easliy check via D/B and running some SQL script.

  • How to get around a performance issue when dealing with a lot of data

    Hello All,
This is an academic question really, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with my issue, but I have some options.  I was wondering if anyone would like to throw in their two cents on what they would do.
I have a report, the users want to see all agreements and all conditions related to the updating of rebates and the affected invoices. From a technical perspective ENT6038-KONV-KONP-KONA-KNA1.  THese are the tables I have to hit.  The problem is that when they retroactively update rebate conditions they can hit thousands of invoices, which blossoms out to thousands of conditions...you see the problem. I simply have too much data to grab, it times out.
I've tried everything around the code.  If you have a better way to get price conditions and agreement numbers off of thousands of invoices, please let me know what that is.
I have a couple of options.
    1) Use shared memory to preload the data for the report.  This would work, but I'm not going to know what data is needed to be loaded until report run time. They put in a date. I simply can't preload everything. I don't like this option much.
    2) Write a function module to do this work. When the user clicks on the button to get this particular data, it will launch the FM in background and e-mail them the results. As you know, the background job won't time out. So far this is my favored option.
    Any other ideas?
Oh...nope, BI is not an option, we don't have it. I know, I'm not happy about it. We do have a data warehouse, but the prospect of working with that group makes me whince.

My two cents - firstly totally agree with Derick that its probably a good idea to go back to the business and justify their requirement in regards to reporting and "whether any user can meaningfully process all those results in an aggregate". But having dealt with customers across industries over a long period of time, it would probably be bit fanciful to expect them to change their requirements too much as in my experience neither do they understand (too much) technology nor they want to hear about technical limitations for a system etc. They want what they want if possible yesterday!
So, about dealing with performance issues within ABAP, I'm sure you must be already using efficient programming techniques like using Hash internal tables with Unique Keys, accessing rows of the table using Field-Symbols and all that but what I was going to suggest to you is probably look at using [Extracts|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/9f/db9ed135c111d1829f0000e829fbfe/content.htm]. I've had to deal with this couple of times in the past when dealing with massive amount of data and I found it to be very efficient in regards to performance. A good point to remember when using Extracts that, I quote from SAP Help, "The size of an extract dataset is, in principle, unlimited. Extracts larger than 500KB are stored in operating system files. The practical size of an extract is up to 2GB, as long as there is enough space in the filesystem."
    Hope this helps,
    Cheers,
    Sougata.

  • Crystal Reports 11g Performance Issue

We just upgraded our database to Oracle 11g from Oracle 10g and we are having significant performance issues with Crystal Reports.
Our DEV and TEST environments are on 11g and are very slow to connect to the database and attach to specific tables.  It is unusable.  Our PROD environment is still 10g and works fine.
We  have tested with both the lastest version -  Crystal Reports 2008 V1  and  Crystal Reports XI R2 SP6.  We have also tested on several different machines.
We are using Oracle 10g ODBC drivers.
    Does anyone have any recommendations?

You could also try our Data direct drivers we have available on our WEB site using this [link|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100008666562008E/cr_datadirect53_win32.zip].
Those drivers are the most recent and do support 11g. It also has a wired driver that doesn't require the client to be installed.
Also, highly recommended that when you do update the Oracle client to uninstall 10 first. There have been issues with CR and Oracle mixing the Oracle dependencies and causing problems.
    Thank you

  • How to solve the report generating performance issue in BI server

->I HAVE USED ONLY ONE PIVOT IN MY REPORT QUERY AND THE REPORT QUERY IS FULLY DEPEND ON ONE FACT TABLE
->IN THE REPORT I AM SHOWING DATA BY MORE THAN 150 COLUMNS.
->I HAVE USED REPORT FUNCTIONS FOR 3 FIELDS IN THE REPORT.ALL THREE REPORT FUNCTIONS JUST ADD TWO COLUMN FIELD AND MAKE IT IN TO ONE COLUMN FILED
->REPORT QUERY INDIVIDUALLY RUNNING BY 2.40 SECONDS.WHEN I USED THAT TO GENERATE A REPORT IT TAKES TO RUN MORE THAN 8 MINS.WHY THIS DELAY?WILL YOU EXPLAIN
    Edited by: 873091 on Jul 18, 2011 3:50 AM

    Hello Dude,
So from your post I understand that there is a report that basically takes 8 minutes to retrieve the data, but when you get the logical sql from the cache, and run it against the database, it only takes less than 20 seconds to retrieve the same data?
This should never happen. There might be a delay of more 20-40 seconds more than the time taken against the database to load the page elements etc. Is this happening for only this particular report or all reports ? Are you running the query against the same instance's database or a different one?
Try to re-boot all the BI services and run the report again, if the issue still exists, enable caching and try.
    Assign points if helpful.
    Thanks,
    -Amith.

  • How should I tackle battery drain issues?? I'm fed up

I'm fed up a bit for my Z3 C battery life. This is my second query regarding battery life.
Does keeping Mobile data and Whatsapp running ON even in standby mode drains the battery??
I usually get just 1 or 2 whatsapp messages in an hour or two.
    My phone settings-
Always turned off my wifi/ bt/ nfc/ gps/ location tracking/ autoupdates etc. & everything you can think and suggest.
I use only stock custom wallpaper and no live stuff. No widgets. No sd card inserted. With only two homescreens with just 2 shortcuts on each screen.
Have disabled apps which I dont use.
Stopped services of apps which are no longer needed.
No auto sync enabled for any app.
Display brightness is at 30% all times.
I use only these 3rd party apps-
    Status bar mini
    Network monitor mini
    Whatsapp
    Greenify
    My daily Z3 routine-
At night while going to sleep I turn off mobile data,  turn on airplane mode and turn on stamina mode. (12:30am - 9:30am)
Manually Force stop apps which are on. Use Greenify to exit/stop apps.
When I wake up the next day battery is down by 4-5%.
During day, phone runs in normal mode without any stamina activated. (10am - 12:30am)
The Low-battery mode seems useless as it does literally nothing.
Also, as soon as the battery is 100% charged and if I use phone for even 5 mins the battery immediately drops to 99%, so is this normal??
Even if I capture 5 photos in stock auto mode the battery drops by 1% or 2.
I reboot my phone once a week or in 10 days or when need arises.
Ram utilised is always 1gb. But I dont feel any slowness for any app or my phone usage.
So inspite of all this STRICT following what I get at the end of the day is just 1.2 days battery life.
Again I dont watch any movies or play games fearing my battery will deplete in no time.
So basically I'm using my Z3 as a battery monitoring unit and is 85% on standby mode. So when shall I use my phone the way it is designed for???
I have read people using it for occasionally playing games and watching movies, light surfing, calling and camear and it still lasts a good 2 days. So where I'm going wrong here?
I use 2G/edge network as 3G isnt available for my operator in the city I reside.
Charging the phone to 100% from 14% takes 3 to 3.5 hours.
I have already repaired my phone using Sony pc companion and also did a factory reset as well but this issue has been haunting me.
Sony center says the battery doesnt need any replacement as its still healthy and so is my device.
The phones service menu also reports battery status as Good.
I dont know when is Lollipop gonna be out for Z3 but I fear updating to Lollipop as it may pose more serious issues than doing any good apart from usual GUI tweaks & updates.
But just wish that lollipop brings in more relief to Z3 batteries and operations.
-------- If my Post or Answer helped you out, Please KUDOS me

    Hi all,
I dont know what topic to choose Got them all:
I was looking around and tried a lot of tips concerning the battery drainage, no luck ,
but then I noticed other issues as well
I tried to send a mail to support but, some how it is not working today: tried different browsers, even different computers.
NOT here to talk bad, complain or talk down on this product, I know the phone in  working condition,
from my house mate and it is what they promise. I just dont know what to do and a bit frustrated and lauged at by my house mate.
I am posting, may be you guys have some answers, solutions or experiences.
But I think I am just unlucky to have a black sheep of the production.
    My Firmware : 23.0.1.A.5.77
    My issues.
    - Battery Drain
    - Screen isseus
    - And reception issues
    **Battery Drain**
I wake up 06:00 get it from the charger got to work when I come home 18:00 i got 15% left.
I actually can see the percentages going down while scrolling my emails.
ow beginning I work in support myself, I waited for an
    - Waited for Updates
    - Installed the update
    - Un installed apps.
    - Configured stamina almost so tight that most of the apps except email where online
    - Did a factory reset twice
    1) First time start using it as normal, with less apps, still same performance maybe
3% better, but that might be because i didn't used it so much of the less apps
    2) Second time Factory reset - I got a 2, full days out of it:
         - No Apps Installed
         - No Wifi
         - Didn't use it at al left it on my nightstand
         - No data traffic
         - 3/4 screenshots
         - No Phone Calls
Well what is the use for a (premium) smartphone if you leave it on your nightstand?
When I start using it at the minimum installed:
    - 2 email accounts (Gmail and company one)
    - Facebook
    - Spotify
    Check it out:
!!This after the 2nd FACTORY RESET Yesterday!!!
Screenshot from this morning on my way to work
(to be fair left it with 100% unused at home and still 2 days and 3 hours)
Ok the next picture is on my way home , didnt use it since no apps installed and busy at work (this is about 12 hrs later)
Installed Spotify listened about 30minutes over 4g
18 hours left ? Quick calculation dat is 21 hours missing (33 hours in total)
Next installed facebook , some mail accounts, whatsapp, apped a couple of people that I am available again
45 Minutes later: 8 hours gone.
What do you think? Is it me? Or is there something wrong?
    ** SCREEN PROBLEMS **
I tought I noticed a couple of glitches with the screen, like little flashes,
but was not sure, I kind of found the use of the screen suspicious while monitoring the battery (50%)
al the time even if it was home doing nothing the whole day.
The  the Bouncing touch, i experienced that also but not constant, there is another topic about that here.
Things I didnt worried about untill : I was looking around the battery menu,
and descover the usage graph screen, when I went in to it i noticed a little falsh and a lag.
and then I had a little heart attack: screen broken , dead pixels what is it.?! BUT ONLY on yhis screen,
no problem with it BEFORE the factory reset:
TAKE A LOOK, AND ALSO NOTICE THE GRAPH GOING DOWN ALMOST IN A STRAIGHT LINE,
screen shot a minute later as the 3rd screen shot of battery drain.
CHECK THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN , IT LOOKS CRACKED RIGHT? IT ISNT!!
    ** CONNECTION/RECEPTION PROBLEMS **
I kind of noticed , isseus , but wasnt bothered that much, only while analyzing the battery that was my main concern.
I noticed I had always less reception than others same room/place same provider (VODAFONE IRELAND),
maybe that was an factor draining the battery, but it was not like there was really low signal just one bar less then other
people an the other Z3 here in the house.
    What did noticed , and I was willing to wait for an firmware update for it, It kept losing 4G connectivity;
it flipped to 3g for a bit and the stays hanging around H and Edge.
    WORKAROUND restart the fone and with no problem back on 4g but after a while and not moving;
4g drops again to either H or Edge. (Mind Vodafone has the biggest and strongest 4g network at the moment here in Dublin)
So now I dont know what to do, I kinda bought the fone for my holiday (in 3 weeks).
     - Is it serious enough that Sony will replace it? Since opening it up an closing it, will lose waterproofing
     - What else will they expect from me to do / trouble shoot?
     - How long will a solution take? Sending the fone back etc.
And finally other people reconize these isseus, and especially like me at the same time?
Thanks in advance For your Feedback (if Any).
I will try to mail support again now, and hope the website works now.
    Eddy.

  • How to maximize report script performance

    Essbase Nation,
We have a report script that extracts a full 12 months worth of history in 7 minutes. The script that is used to extract the period dimension is as follows:
    <Link (<Descendants("Dec YTD") And <Lev("Period",0))
The line above is then changed to pull just one month of data, and now the report script runs for 8 hours.
Please advise as to why the difference in performance.
    Thank you.

How to optimize Hyperion Essbase Report Scripts?
    Solution
To optimize your Report follow the suggested guidelines below:
    1. Decrease the amount of Dynamic Calcs in your outline. If you have to, make it dynamic calc and store.
    2. Use the <Sparse command at the beginning of the report script.
    3. Use the <Column command for the dense dimensions instead of using the Page command. The order of the dense dimensions in the Column command should
be the same as the order of the dense dimension in the outline. (Ex. <Column (D1, D2)).
    4. Use the <Row command for the sparse dimensions. The order of the sparse dimensions in the Row command should be in the opposite order of the sparse
dimension in the outline. (Ex. <Row (S3, S2, S1)). This is commonly called sparse bottom up method.
    5. If the user does not want to use the <Column command for the dense dimensions, then the dense dimensions should be placed at the end of the <Row command.
    (Ex. <Row (S3, S2, S1, D1, D2)).
    6. Do not use the Page command, use the Column command instead.

  • Crystal Report / Subreport - Performance Issue

I am having problems with a Crystal Report / Subreport with performance. I am using Crystal Version 11, directly in Crystal Developer.  There are no other programs involved.  I am linking to a SQL Server database using ODBC.
I have narrowed the problem down to this:
The main report has 4 tables.  See diagram using the following link.   http://screencast.com/t/TA9YYlwwl7
The subreport has 1 table, this table has > 2 Million records in it.
The main report links to the subreport with one field:
Main report field SAMPLE.PATIENT = subreport field Z_RESULT_HISTORY.PHIN
When I set the subreport linking within Crystal   it automatically generates the following in the record selection for the subreport:
    {Z_RESULT_HISTORY.PHIN} = {?Pm-SAMPLE.PATIENT}
The problem is that the report execution time is dependent on the field that I am using for the record selection in the main report.
    Case I   works lightening fast:
There are 16 records returned on the Main Report   each one of these has about 1-5 records returned on the subreport.
    {SAMPLE.PATIENT} = "MOUSEMICKEY"  and {SAMPLE.SAMPLE_NUMBER} < 200
Case II   brutally slow   there are 51 records in the main report that qualify   with a few records each in the subreport.  By  brutally slow    I mean a few minutes:
    {BATCH.NAME} = "HEP_ARCH-20090420-1"
In this case, I can see in the bottom right of the Crystal Preview window, that it is reading through all 2M records in the Z_RESULT_HISTORY table
Case III   brutally slow - a couple minutes
    {BATCH_OBJECTS.OBJECT_ID} = 111
This returns 1 record on the main report and 0 records on the subreport.  Yet I can see it reading through ALL 2 Million records before the report is displayed.
What I can t understand is why the field used for record selection on the MAIN report is affecting the speed of the execution of the subreport.  I need the main report to be selected by BATCH.NAME   yet I can t figure out what I can change to make the report run fast.  When I record select the main report by SAMPLE.PATIENT, I do NOT see the subreport reading all 2M reocrds - the report preview is returned in less than 1 second.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Lindell - your response was very helpful.  I was able to create a SQL Command on the subreport and change the subreport links on the main report to use the paramters in the SQL Command.  The report is now very fast - even when there are lots of detail records on the main report.  It is properly executing the query and not reading all 2M records into memory for each subreport.
I'm still totally confused as to why Crystal was misbehaving so poorly and changing how the subreport queried the database when the only change was the fields used for record selection on the main report.  It really looks like a bug to me, but maybe someone can still enlighten me.
thanks again so much.  We are in Parallel testing for a production rollout - and the users are MUCH happier now!  (which of course makes me much happier!)
    Susan
PS I was not aware of the SQL Command - had never used it before.  Took me a little while to figure it out and how to do the linking - but it is very powerful.  Thanks again.

  • Crystal Report 9 performance issue wehn we move old DB to new DB server

We are using Crystal Reports 9 version, recently we move to new database server and reports data source are pointing to Old database server and old database server is no longer in the network.
, Now we have issue with the performance, if the we call the reports from web application, it is talking long to retrieve the report at least 1 min.. , if we manually update the report data source pointing to new server and the reports are pulling in 1 second, Is there any easy solution to update all the report pointing to new server, we have 3000 reports, we can not use manual process, it will take long time and it is also issue with the future if we change the server.
    Thanks!
    Ram

The 1 minute timeout is due to ODBC driver trying to connect, it's the default timeout you are seeing. There is not tool Cr has to migrate/update database connection info. You can develop your own though or search the web for a third party tool, I'm sure there are lots out there.

  • Report Painter Performance Issue

    Helloo experts,
I have a report painter report which is pulling the data from a custom table (which has 32million records). Its taking a lot of time .
Is there any method to improve its performance ?

    Hi,
Please check report painter selecting records using primary key or secondary index. If not please create secondary index for custom table (after consultation with basis, due to creating the secondary index will increase the load on server of custom table with 32 millions records)
If not possible. extract the resultset from custom table into another table and make query for report painter on that. and update the new table on daily basis or hourly basis.
