How to maximize report script performance

I have a report script that takes a while to run. Basically the script is zooming into 3 sparse dimensions and 1 dense dimension. <BR><BR><BR>The dense dimension has 732 stored members.<BR><BR>The sparse dimensions have 92, 280 and 576 members respectively. <BR><BR>when I did the zoom bottom in excel, it only took me about 4 minutes total to zoom in through the whole thing. <BR><BR>But when I did it in the report script, it ran for about half an hour and then I had to killed it. <BR><BR>I tried to change the order of the rows in the report script to match the zoom order in my excel retrieval, but that didn't help. <BR><BR>i remember from the bootcamp that the report script zoom in order should follow the hourglass or something. i can't remember exactly which dimension should go first though, was it the biggest dense and then the smallest sparse and then the biggest sparse dimensions? <BR><BR>here is how the script looks like:<BR><BR>{Rowrepeat}<BR>{SUPFEED}<BR>{Pagelength 10000}<BR>{Supemptyrows}<BR>{Supzerorows}<BR>{supcolheading}<BR><BR><ROW ("REV AND COST CENTERS", ENTITY, ACCOUNTS, ALLOCATION)<BR><BR><LINK (<descendants ("local currency entities") or <descendants (historical) <BR>or <children(celerops) OR <CHILDREN (CRAOPS) OR <DESC (ONLINEOPS) OR <DESC (PARACELOPS) OR <DESC (DSCIEOPS) OR <DESC (DSERVOPS) OR <DESC (EXCAPOPS) or <CHILDREN (GENERAL) OR AND <DIMBOT (ENTITY))<BR><BR><LINK (<descendants (statistical) or <descendants ("net income") or <DESCendants ("pre-assessment expenses") AND <LEV(Accounts,0))<BR><BR><LINK (<DESC("SGA") OR <DESC ("R&D AND ENG.") OR <DESC ("OTHER CC") AND <LEV ("REV AND COST CENTERS",0))<BR><LINK (<descendants ("direct") or <descendants ("indirect") or <descendants ("manual indirect") <BR>or <children ("allocation") and <lev(allocation,0))<BR><BR>!<BR><BR>any suggestions would be appreciated. <BR><BR>thx.

<p>For improving the retreival performance put the most densedimension on top followed by least dense dimension members,followedby most queried sparse dimension members followed by least sparsedimension members.....For improving calcualtion performance theorderof sparse dimension members changes while that of densedimension members remain same.</p><p> </p><p>Other thing which you can do is to increase the size ofretreival buffer.</p>

  • Report Script Performance Issues

    Essbase Nation,
    We have a report script that extracts a full 12 months worth of history in 7 minutes. The script that is used to extract the period dimension is as follows:
    <Link (<Descendants("Dec YTD") And <Lev("Period",0))
    The line above is then changed to pull just one month of data, and now the report script runs for 8 hours.
    Please advise as to why the difference in performance.
    Thank you.

    How to optimize Hyperion Essbase Report Scripts?
    Solution
    To optimize your Report follow the suggested guidelines below:
    1. Decrease the amount of Dynamic Calcs in your outline. If you have to, make it dynamic calc and store.
    2. Use the <Sparse command at the beginning of the report script.
    3. Use the <Column command for the dense dimensions instead of using the Page command. The order of the dense dimensions in the Column command should
    be the same as the order of the dense dimension in the outline. (Ex. <Column (D1, D2)).
    4. Use the <Row command for the sparse dimensions. The order of the sparse dimensions in the Row command should be in the opposite order of the sparse
    dimension in the outline. (Ex. <Row (S3, S2, S1)). This is commonly called sparse bottom up method.
    5. If the user does not want to use the <Column command for the dense dimensions, then the dense dimensions should be placed at the end of the <Row command.
    (Ex. <Row (S3, S2, S1, D1, D2)).
    6. Do not use the Page command, use the Column command instead.

  • How should I report forum performance issues?

    The forums rely heavily on the caching features of browsers to improve the speed of page rendering. Performance of these forums should greatly improve after a few pages because more and more of the images, css and javascript is cached in the browser. As a consequence, when reporting forums performance issues the report should include some information on the state of the browser cache to determine whether the issue is a browser issue or a server issue. Such detailed information is generally not available from just watching the browser screen, but needs to come from specialized tools such as performance monitor plugins and recording proxies.
    The preferred report method for performance issues is to use the speed reporting features build into or available as a plugin for a browser for both the page you want to report a problem with and several refence pages in the site. Detailed instructions are listed below separated out for different browsers. If possible, please use Firefox for submitting the report because it provides an export format that can be read back electronically.
    Known performance issues
    The performance issues with any screen with a Rich Text Editor, such as the Reply window and the compose Private Message window have been acknowleged and improvements are being implemented.
    Mozilla Firefox (preferred)
    Warning: it is currently not recommended to generate a speed report when logged in. The speed report has enough detail for somebody else to hijack your session and impersonate you on the forums. If you really must report while logged in, make sure you log out your browser after generating the speed report and wait at least 4 hours before posting.

    Show the menu bar.
    Go to preferences
    Go to the Advanced Tab
    Check “Show  Develop menu in menu bar”.
    From the Develop menu select “Show Web  Inspector”.
    Collecting the performance information and exporting works exactly the same as in Google Chrome. Please refer to the instructions for Google Chrome.
    Microsoft Internet Explorer
    IE does not have native features to analyze web traffic. No plugins have been found that produce the required information (please let us know if we missed any). For now, please reproduce the issue with Firefox, Chrome or Safari.
    Please note that due to the reliance on Javascript for the interactive effects the performance of these forums will be much better on MS IE 8 then on previous versions of MS IE.

  • How to Improve Report View performance

    Hi All, i have a webi report which runs about 3 minutes. But when i click on view the report takes about 21 seconds(average) or so to open up. Any ideas on how to improve the report view performance? Does it have anything to do with server load? Any server settings to tweak to speed it up? Any ideas are appreciated.
    The requirement is that my web team has to strip off the Business Objects logo etc(using sdk), and display the report in my company web page, so its
    looking sort of ugly as the web page is taking about 21 seconds just to display the report.
    Some Report statistics:
    Report size is about 90 MB, as it has about 300 k rows of data(which i am aggregating using formulas)
    Report has about 15 simple division formulas
    Report is in Drill Mode. There are about 5 drill filters
    Thanks,
    Kon

    Hi Larry,
    I'll assume you are scheduling this report and viewing the instance in ~21 seconds.  Is that correct?
    We definitely need some environment info to go along with this post.  Like Simone said, Product Version, Patch Level, and other OS, Hardware, App Server details would help as well.
    There are certain properties of a document that can slow down the rendering of a report but we generally have to look at the logs to determine what part of the report is taking the longest time to process.  Assuming this is an instance, I would be curious to know if it is quicker to come up if you immediately view it a second time?
    If you were to turn on a trace, you would see a number of lines like this:
    2011/06/15 20:11:54.153|>=| | | 7676|7436|{|||||||||||||||C3_DPSerialization:ContextPromptList_StreamUnit_SerializeOut
    2011/06/15 20:11:54.153|>=| | | 7676|7436|}|||||||||||||||C3_DPSerialization:ContextPromptList_StreamUnit_SerializeOut: 0
    2011/06/15 20:11:54.153|>=| | | 7676|7436|{|||||||||||||||C3_DPSerialization:cdbSQLStreamUnit_SerializeOut
    2011/06/15 20:11:54.168|>=| | | 7676|7436|}|||||||||||||||C3_DPSerialization:cdbSQLStreamUnit_SerializeOut: 0.015
    2011/06/15 20:11:54.168|>=| | | 7676|7436|}|||||||||||||||C3_DPSerialization:QTDP_StreamUnit_SerializeOut: 0.015
    2011/06/15 20:11:54.168|>=| | | 7676|7436|}|||||||||||||||C3_QTDataprovider:SaveMe_Serial: 0.015
    2011/06/15 20:11:54.168|>=| | | 7676|7436|}|||||||||||||||C3_QTDataprovider:SaveAll_Serial: 0.015
    The numbers at the end are how long the function took to run.  Generally the function gives us an idea of what the engine was doing.
    When evaluating performance issues, you can occasionally find a function that is taking long to run within the logs and based on the function and module names, it can sometime lead you to the reason it is taking longer than expected.
    Another good test might be to run a very basic report to see how long it takes to come up.  Even a report without a datasource would suffice as that will give you your baseline time on how long it takes to load the viewer, convert the WID file to XML and send it up through the application server to your browser.  If a test report takes 15 seconds to view, then you are really only looking at 6 seconds for this other report.
    Hope this helps and gets you started.  More environment info would help take it further.
    Thanks
    Jb

  • How to maximize report

    Hi,

    end;
    I get an error FRM-40735 When Button Pressed trigger raised unhandled exception ORA-06502
    If I remove add_parameter from my script it works fine.

  • Report Script Help Needed

    Hi,
    I have not written one in years and am having trouble with a fairly simple one (I think). Was wondering if you could take a look. Anyways we have 11 dimensions which may make this impossible due to performance. I basically need a report script to perform a data extract. Data requirements for each dimension would be:
    Scenario: Budget
    Version: Final
    CCCC: Tot_CCCC (Rollup)
    SCCC: Tot_SCCC (Rollup)
    Charge_Type: Charge_Type_Total (Rollup)
    Resource: NU_RESC (Rollup)
    SAU_CAU_Facility: Zero level members of "NU_Consolidated"
    Account: Zero level members of "TOTCO_FERC"
    Activity: Zero level members of "NU_Actv"
    Years: Children of "YEARS"
    Periods: Jan to Dec only
    Report format would suppress the PAGE thus Budget and Final would not appear.
    Was also hoping to somehow suppress CCCC, SCCC, Charge_Type and Resource(Not sure if possible).
    Thus format would look something like this tab delimited:
    Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec
    SAU_CAU_Facility Account Activity Year 100 200 100 100 010 100 200 300 100 100 100 100
    Here is what I have so far. I have not been able to get it to return any results even though I have loaded one row of fake data. Does anything jump out at you as to what I'm doing wrong? Appreciate any help you may have as I'm really stuck as it's been years since I have tried this.

    One thing that may help - it looks like you're using both <DIMBOTTOM and <LINK for three of your dimensions.
    <DIMBOTTOM "SAU_CAU_Facility"
    <DIMBOTTOM "ACCOUNT"
    <DIMBOTTOM "ACTIVITY"
    You should just need the <LINK and not the <DIMBOTTOM. <DIMBOTTOM's can really kill report script performance.
    Whenever I do these, I try to start small, and then open the report script up to more and more members to see what's affecting performance. I'd start with one year, one facility, one activity, one account, etc. Then slowly add in the full member specifications you want.
    Hope this helps,
    - Jake

  • How we call  reports in script

    hi gurus.
    please tell me how we call  reports in script.
    thanks,
    subhasis

    Hi,
    we can call report thro' sapscripts by following way,
    Calling ABAP Subroutines: PERFORM
    for eg.
    Say if you have to add the unit price (KOMVD-KBERT) then in the main window whereever tat value is picked write this routine
    /: DEFINE &TOT_PRICE&
    /: PERFORM F_GET_PRICE IN PROGRAM <subroutine prog name> /:USING &KOMVD-KBERT& /:CHANGING &TOT_PRICE& /:ENDPERFORM
    Then write the variable where ever you want it to be printed (mostly it will be in footer window)
    Then create subroutine pool program and you have to write the code.
    FORM F_GET_PRICE tables int_cond structure itcsy
    outt_cond structure itcsy. data : value type kbert.
    statics value1 type kbert.
    Read int_cond table index 1.
    value = int_cond-value.
    value1 = value1 + value.
    Read outt_cond table index 1.
    outt_cond-value = value1.
    Modify outt_cond index 1.
    ENDFORM.

  • How to improve the query performance in to report level and designer level

    How to improve the query performance in to report level and designer level......?
    Plz let me know the detail view......

    first its all based on the design of the database, universe and the report.
    at the universe Level, you have to check your Contexts very well to get the optimal performance of the universe and also your joins, keep your joins with key fields, will give you the best performance.
    at the report level, try to make the reports dynamic as much as you can, (Parameters) and so on.
    and when you create a paremeter try to get it match with the key fields in the database.
    good luck

  • How to report database performance to upper management?

    Hello all.
    I am looking for a way to report database performance to upper management.  I'll start by giving you an overview of our team structure. I manage a team of various roles: Level 2 support specialists, configuration managers, and DBAs - we are dubbed the
    "Production Support Team".  I report directly to the VP of Software Development who oversees the Design, DEV, and QA, team managers.  This means that our team, Production Support, can be considered a peer team of Design, DEV, and QA.
    The manager of each team compiles metrics from their team members and reviews them on a weekly basis to ensure we are headed in the right direction.  We then take our metrics, and distill them down into a few key metrics that we then report to the VP
    of Software Development.  Those metrics are easy tom compile for the L2 support roles (number of tickets escalated, number closed, etc.).  However, I've been struggling with how to report DBA performance for a long time.  Every time I start
    to compile numbers, I end up with tons of things that are great for a DBA, but don't mean much to upper management.  Does anyone have any suggestions.  Surely I'm not the only person that has had this issue?
    I'd be happy to provide more info if needed.  Thanks!
    Clint

    are you using an RTF template ?
    in the RTF template you need to use this syntax for the HTML enabled field
    <?html2fo:MOSC_COMMENTS?>
    instead of <?MOSC_COMMENTS?>

  • How to output the outline parent-child relationship using a report script?

    I'd like to extract the outline's dimension members with it's parent-child relationship using a report script. Anybody can provide a sample script? Thanks.

    Sorry a report script won't do it. You have two options
    1. Use at Essbase Outline API to walk the outline and get it for you
    2. Use the Outline extractor available from Applied Olap (it is a free download). It can be run interactively of as a bat file.
    Frankly, I would rather use 2 since I don't have to code it myself

  • How to output the member UDA as a column in Report Script?

    I tagged my account dimension members according to its classification instead of using an attribute dimension.
    I wanted to use the assigned UDA for data loading purpose (select/reject records in rule file.
    Please let me know the syntax to show UDA as a column in the report script.
    Thanks.

    It sounds like what you need is an alias table for loading purposes, rather than a UDA tied to the members.
    Like Glenn said, you can't output the UDA in a report, but you can either output an alias or use the alias in the destination database. In this case, I'd use a new alias table rather than the default alias, something specific for the purpose.
