I am trying to compile one servlet code using commancd prompt and i get

error for following code

it seems like C:\softProyecto\Tomcat5\conf\Catalina\localhost\admin.xml (C:\softproyecto\tomcat5 = tomcat�s home directory) needs javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet. And that comes from a Tomcat .jar file, i think.
After more and more messages..... here it comes my application (MapasRuido)...which needs javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet and compiled ok at compiling time!

What I mean by this, of course, is that each of these requires you to set the CLASSPATH in the way they expect. None of them even looks for a system environment variable named CLASSPATH. You can waste a lot of time thinking that your CLASSPATH is "all set", but it's not.
Tomcat assumes the following for your Web app's CLASSPATH:
(0) The JDK rt.jar, of course,
(1) All the JARs in TOMCAT_HOME/common/lib,
(2) All the JARs in your WEB-INF/lib,
(3) All the .class files in your WEB-INF/classes
That's it. (Maybe one or two others, but those are the important ones.)
Eclipse and NetBeans have their own way to set CLASSPATH for each project. You'll have to learn how for those IDEs.
The CLASSPATH is still vitally important. The system environment variable just isn't part of it. - MOD -
Service method in javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet

I have a doubt in the service method of javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet
There are two service methods in the javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.
one is with protected and other is with public access specifier.
In the javadoc it is said that public service method dispatches client requests to the protected service method.
Why this type of design is required.
Instead of having a two service methods, Is it not possible to have a single service method and attain the functionality intended.
Are there any advantages by having two service methods.
I think there may be some idea/functionality behind these for having two service methods , which I am not able to understand.
Would be greatful , if someone can throw light on this .

The public service() method takes arguments of ServletRequest and ServletResponse, presumably because that's the signature that the non-HTTP specific servlet engine requires.
The protected service() method of HttpServlet takes arguments of HttpServletRequest and HttpServletResponse and includes HTTP specific functions.
My guess is that the public service() method either casts the arguments to the Http objects or does work to create the Http objects before calling the protected method. -
Why javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet is serializable ?
As per serialization definition if super class implements java.io.Serializable then all sub classes are also get that behaviour.

I'm in netbeans and I've created a new 'General Java Application' - I'm trying to import the package above but the netbeans can't find it.

Finally I added some paths that lead to a library such as
C:\Program Files\glassfish-v2\lib

I Have an EAR containing a web application containing a bunch of servlets and an applet accessed through jnlp. When I start the applet, everything works perfectly well, all the functionnalities work. But in my log file, I get about 4 exceptions (always the same) and sometime later on (using the applet) I get one or two more. How to Connect to the Visibroker Naming Service using the Servlet

I am facing Problem in finding the Initial JNDI Context.
It is giving me ClassCastException.
In our Application the Tomcat is Integrated with One of the Partitions. And the EJB' are registered on Visibroker Naming Service (on the same machine).
I want to Access one of the EJB's.

AnkitYou can check whether any cookies were sent in the request to your servlet:
Cookie cookies[] = request.getCookies();
if cookies is not null (cookies != null) then the browser sending you the request suppoerts cookies.
If it is null then you would need to do a little extra work. Basically add a cookie to the response going back to the browser. Then send a redirect back to this same servlet. You then would have to add code to check to see whether the cookie was sent back.

But Default setting are there that time it's working,But some security region that settings customized.the following way

SESSIONID.CookiePath = APPLICATION(Custom values)
SAPLB.CookiePath = APPLICATION(Custom values)
SAPLB.CookieDomain = SERVER(Custom values)
This below settings is there that time working fine.

Invoking a second servlet when clicking submit in first servlet
I have 3 files Test.html, Test.java and Test1. java
Test and Test1 are servlets.

I am using Apache Tomcat/4.1.31 as web server. can you tell me what is the reason i am stuck with this problem and my tool development is halted because of this.

Xhtml call to servlet not returning response, not calling servlet
I have xhtml in a web app making a call to a servlet but the response from the servlet is not displaying. The original xhtml displays after the submit button is pressed. I tried different alternatives for the servlet response, but I get the same result each time. I added logging to the servlet, but it looks like the servlet is not being called at all.

Also for the next time, use \ tags to post code; that makes it actually readable. As you can see, the forum is now trying to interpret some special characters for formatting. -
How to import javax.servlet.http.*
Dear all,
I'm trying to create an applet that writes (and later reads) a cookie from the clients local HDD. The first thing I run into is that I'm unable to import the nessecary class, which would be, I think, "javax.servlet.http.cookie". I'm using JBuilder 8.0 and every time I'm typing "import javax.servlet"
I get the message "cannot acces the directory "javax.servlet".
How should I troubleshoot this problem?

I solved the trouble. What I have done is I downloaded the enterprise 1.4 SDK and added the j2ee.jar to the JBuilder 8.0 JDK directories.

Custom Class file errors out on import javax.servlet.http.HttpSession
I am trying to write a class file to handle events. This is a test class file copied from the UIX Docs. When I put this in JDeveloper 903 ,and build it the compiler gives the error:
Error(2,27): cannot access class javax.servlet.http.HttpSession; file javax\servlet\http\HttpSession.class not found
I am not sure what is the problem? Can anyone please help?
