  • How Do I Install Oracle Unbreakable Linux on My Virtual Machine

    I would like to know the steps required to install Oracle Unbreakable Linux on my Virtual Machine, cos i tried to but i keep having problems when i get to selecting the destination for the installation, the prompt says i have to allow it format my hard disk wont i lose my files in the process.

    When you create a virtual disk for your VMWare instance the format will only affect this disk. You can see this as it will display the size of the disk. If this is the size of the virtual disk (default = 8 GB) then go ahead. If this looks like your normal HD just stop and read the VMWare installation Guide from www.vmware.com

  • How can I start using Oracle Express Edition

    Good afternoon, how can I start using Oracle Express Edition? I have it installed it but I can not enter any user or key that allows me to manage the program from the Internet. I have understood that this version is free.
    Correct me I'm wrong and please do noted me. In my country this course very expensive and I'm looking to learn on my own.
    Edited by: user12301712 on 03-dic-2009 9:46

    Hi
    During installation wizard asked you about password for SYS and SYSTEM user, you had to set it. If you forgot you can loggin to ORACLE via SQL plus without password:
    c:\>SQLPLUS / sys as sysdba
    after connect you can set new password for any user, for example (SYSTEM user):
    ALTER USER SYSTEM identified by NEW_PASSWORD;
    After this you can login to APEX (Internet enviroment)
    Remember Oracle it's not only Internet frontend, it's huge tools with many functions. If you need study Oracle you need many time and zest but it is worth-while.
    Yes Oracle XE is free (read licence agreement).

  • How can I login to Oracle Express Ed 11g Rel 2 on windows XP 32bit?

    I installed Oracle Express Ed 11g Release 2 32bit on windows XP 32bit and I can not login ito it. Installation asked for a password to be created at installation which I used to login with.
    The login window is started from a shortcut that installation created on my desktop. I tried to download and install three times. I went thru a SW removable before another download. The login responds with "Invalid Login Credentials"
    I have admin rights to my PC. What could be the issue?
    Please help.
    Thanks.

    What could be the issue? Could be many different causes. Mistyping the password is one, or the database could be offline but in most cases that will give a different error message. Open a command box, Start/Run/cmd and try:
    $ sqlplus /nolog
    connect system
    ... Password ... <the one used with the installer> ... Connected.
    select name from v$database;
    login window is started from a shortcut If you're talking about the Apex page, the one that opens a web browser to http://<hostname>:8080/apex and that one needs Apex credentials, not database user credentials. Apex users can be mapped to database users but that is something done via the apex administrator.
    Two database accounts "out of the box" are SYS and SYSTEM users, those are special- SYS owns the catalog, SYSTEM is a user with dba role privileges, almost as powerful within the database as the SYS user.

    Could you please tell me how to export those variables? because I am new in Linux.Actually it depends on your system. While installing Oracle 10g on Linux, I make the following changes to .bashrc file in order to connect to database automatically without defining the same variables once more
    export ORACLE_HOME=/home/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1
    export ORACLE_SID=your_database_sid
    export PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$PATH

    I have earlier managed to install the Oracle Client (32-bit) in 32-bit clients and servers Oracle Client 10.
    The reason that it went well before was the exellent setup and configurationprograms we got with that version.It seems you are confusing the "full" Datbase Client with Instant Client.
    Now I'm trying to install the Oracle Instant Client 11g R2 both 32-bit and 64 (of the latest revision) on a 64-bit Windows 2008 Server .
    I have managed to install the driver but the setup doesn't give me any Net Configuration Assistant or Net Manager to help with the configuration.What setup? Are you not using just the zip files?
    What are you installing exactly, i.e. what install media (file) did you download?
    So I haven't succeded in configuring it despite I I read the readme-info that comes with the Instant Client files.There's not much to configure - that's sort of the point of Instant Client. Just drop a few files in a folder, set PATH and off you go.
    Doesn't <instant client dir>\sqlplus user@'hostname/servicename' work?
