How to add a comment on column and table

I would like to have a comment for each column, I know this is possible in oracle we can have comment for each column.
can I have the same in SQL Server, can you provide me a simple example.
I created a table as in attached screen, and tried using the extended properties, to do this. however I've few questions
1. How can I retrieve this info using query
2. here in point 4 of attached image I see Name and Value, do I have to give name and value for each column
3. Do I have to rt click each column and go and update this info their, I have a table with 100+ column :(
Thanks!
Neil

I saw these examples below, however how to associate and see them this to a table and a column?
exec sp_addextendedproperty
@name = ‘SQL Server Rider’,
@value = ‘This is a test’
GO
2. Updating extended property
exec sp_updateextendedproperty
@name = ‘SQL Server Rider’,
@value = ‘Property Updated’
GO
3. Delete extended property
exec sp_dropextendedproperty
@name = ‘SQL Server Rider’
GO
select * from fn_listextendedproperty(null,null,null,null,null,null,null)
NO Records output

  • How to add description of a column of a table in SQL Azure

    Hi
    I have some tables in my application database where there are descriptions added against certain columns. Needless to say they were done by using sp_addextendedproperty.
    Now I am trying to migrate the Database to SQL Azure. SQL Azure does not support sp_addextendedproperty.
    Hence I am not able to figure out how to add descriptions to those columns.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Soumyadeb

    Hello,
    Just as Latheesh post above, Windows Azure SQL database are not support extended stored procedures. That’s one of the limitations on SQL database, and I don’t know there is another way to achieve the same on Azure.

  • Exporting column and table comments

    I need to be able to create an external "data dictionary" to show to database users. I am currently exporting to a reporting schema, and then writing SQL against the reporting schema to get table, column, datatype, etc... information. I also need to be able to get the column and table comments that I entered into data modeler. I can't find those anywhere in the reporting schema. Are they included in the reporting schema? If not, how do I export those comments from data modeler?
    Thanks,
    Jonathan

    That's perfect. Thanks!
    For anyone interested, here is my "Data dictionary" select statement from the exported reporting schema:
    select table_name, sequence as seq, column_name, cast(ccom.text as varchar2(4000)) as description,
    native_type as column_type,
    case when native_type='NUMBER' then t_precision when native_type='DATE' then null else t_size end column_length,
    cast(cnote.text as varchar2(4000)) as valid_values,
    mandatory as required,
    case when native_type='DATE' then 'DATE' else native_type||'('||case when native_type='NUMBER' then t_precision else t_size end||')' end column_spec
    from dmrs_columns, (select * from dmrs_large_text where type='Comments') ccom, (select * from dmrs_large_text where type='Note') cnote
    where dmrs_columns.ovid = ccom.ovid (+)
    and dmrs_columns.object_id = cnote.ovid (+)
    order by table_name, sequence

  • How to add more comments in the Nomination Header notes tab

    Short Text
    How to add more comments in the Nomination Header notes tab
    In the nomination screen, there are the tabs for header and item notes.
    Within each of those tabs, there are categories for the type ofcomments. Currently in the nomination maintenance screen header notes
    there are onlythree comment categories are available 1) General comments 2) Carriercoment 3) Shipper Comment and We would like add more comments in this
    section. In the configuration we couldn't find a place where we can add
    more customer specific comments. Can we add comments in the header
    notes tab and if so where can we add the additional comments ?

    Hello Giri,
    You could try the following to create new text types for nomination header.
    1) Execute transaction SM31
    2) The view here is V_TTXIDI
    3) Click on maintain .
    4) Create new entries .
    5) Since you want to add new more comments in the nomination header enter the text object as OIJRCODE_H
    6) Enter a text ID starting with Z
    7) Enter a description and save the new entry.
    In case you want to add new comments at the item level use the text object as OIJRCODE_I.
    When you restart the transaction O4NM again you will see the new entry added.
    This will solve the issue.

  • How to get the current selected column and row

    Hi,
    A difficult one, how do i know which column (and row would also be nice) of a JTable is selected?
    e.g.
    I have a JButton which is called "Edit" when i select a cell in the JTable and click the button "Edit" a new window must be visible as a form where the user can edit the a part of a row.
    Then the column which was selected in the JTable must be given (so i need to know current column) and then i want the TextField (the one needed to be edited) be active with requestFocus(). So it would be
    pricetextfield.requestFocus();
    Problem now is that i have to click every time in the window the JTextField which was selected in the JTable. I have chosen for this way of editing because my application is multi-user and it would be too difficult for me when everybody did editing directly (catch signals, reload data, etc.).
    My question is how do I know the current column and the current row in a JTable?

    I'm not sure what your mean by the "current" row or column, but the following utility methods return
    which row and column have focus within the JTable.
    public static int getFocusRow(JTable table) {
        return table.getSelectionModel().getLeadSelectionIndex();
    public static int getFocusColumn(JTable table) {
        return table.getColumnModel().getSelectionModel().getLeadSelectionIndex();
    }

  • How to add new currency in ORCO and ORBO

    Hi, I have successfully install ORCO, ORBO and ORPOS. I followed Implementation Guide, Volume 1 – Implementation Solutions to add new currency in ORPOS.
    But I still do not know how to add new currency in CO and BO.
    I try to use import parameter feature in ORCO and ORBO to import xml, the result said "Success" but there is no changes.
    Please help show how I could achieve this.

    I change the FL_CNY_BASE into 1 already. POS is OK now. But BO is not regconize that there is a new currency. I'm trying to go to
    Admin -> Job Manager -> Available Import -> Import BackOffice Parameters
    and try to import xml file that contain belowing content.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
    <CurrencyImport xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="CurrencyImport.xsd" Priority="0" FillType="FullIncremental" Version="1.0" Batch="1" CreationDate="2001-12-17T09:30:47.0Z" ExpirationDate="2027-12-17T09:30:47.0Z">

    The result said it success but I still cannot see any change.
    Is there is any other things I should make change at BO? Any property file that I should make change? BO and CO is web application so the structure of files are not the same as POS. I can't following the same thing when I had made with POS for BO and CO.

  • How to add field value to the standard table

    Hi,
    How to add field value to the standard table?
    for example:
    when we go to TCODE SE16-> VBAK table -> on the selection screen if we press F4 against VBTYP we get all the available values for that field. How to add a new document Category value to this field so that it shows up in F4 help for that field.

    Hi Asif,
    I don't think it is possible and feasible for adding new field value to the field VBTYP because it is not possible through SPRO.
    If u see the domain of this field VBTYP we have fixed values provided by SAP. There is no value table for this. If u have value table then it will be updated through SPRO. But still if u really want to add some value u can do that by getting access key and add the value in the fixed values of the domain. But of no use other than simply displaying in F4. Because for what ever value u created here there will be no documents in VBAK or any table using this domain.
    Hope this is clear for u.
    Thanks,
    Vinod.

  • How to find out the selected column in Table Control

    Hi all,
          How to find out the selected column in Table Control?
    Thanks & Regards,
    YJR

    Hi,
    Let your table control name in Screen painter be TC1.
    READ TABLE TC1-COLS INTO WA_COLS (some wok area)
                 WITH KEY SELECTED = 'X'.
            IF SY-SUBRC = 0.
              CLEAR: W_DUMMY, W_COL_NAME.
              SPLIT WA_COLS-SCREEN-NAME AT '-' INTO W_DUMMY
                                                   W_COL_NAME.
            endif.
    W_COL_NAME gives you the column name.
