How to add layers in Dreamweaver CS5

I am using Dreamweaver CS5 for the first time and cannot find a way to insert layers. One comment I ran across on the internet suggested that layers are a thing of the past. If this is so, can someone please suggest another way to achieve the same result? I need to add resizable, movable text boxes on top of a full-page background image. How do I do this without layers? Thanks!

Layers produced such horrible code, Adobe saw fit to remove them from CS3. Good riddance to layers!
For best results, find a pre-built CSS layout that has been tested to perform well in all browsers. Depending on your needs, you could begin with a basic 1, 2 or 3-column layout. Then it's a fairly simple matter of inserting elements where needed.

How to add pages in Dreamweaver without opening new file??

I want to have a main page which is used for every page but only slights differences are made i.e. there will b a box in the middle which will change as pages change. and thats all, i don't want anything else 2 change.

How to remove or change layers in Dreamweaver CS5 made in 2004

Can somebody please explain to me how we can change the layers and remove the pictures from a website that was made with Dreamweaver 2004.
Now we have CS5 and we don't know where we can find the tools to do this. I cannot find the layer ID.
Please help!

We had an old version of Dreamweaver (DW-MX) in which I have found the layer. It apears to be an image made in Photoshop.
The way I solved the problem now is that I deleted the layer in DW-MX and made a new background image. I am no pro, just an amateur

Creating a database connection
The final step of the setup process is to create a connection
to the database.
To create a database connection in Dreamweaver:
Open any ASP.NET page in Dreamweaver, and then open the
Databases panel (Window > Databases).

OLE DB Connection from the pop-up menu.
The OLE DB Connection dialog box appears.
Enter connTownsend as the connection name.

Double-check the path to the database.
Check the settings for the folder Dreamweaver uses to process
dynamic pages (see Specifying where dynamic pages can be
processed).
Deploy the supporting files by selecting Site > Advanced
> Deploy Supporting Files.
Consult Troubleshooting Database Connections in Using
Dreamweaver (Help > Using Dreamweaver).
Click OK.
The new connection appears in the Databases panel.

How to add layers from different images?

I would like to use layers from several images in a single image. The idea is to give an x-ray view so that you can see images of different views of an object by selecting the opacity of the various layers. It would be similar to an image of the anatomy of a hand: you could see just the skin, or just the bones, or see the bones through the skin. Is this possible, and if so, how?

How to create favicon in dreamweaver cs5 and upload to website

I want to be able to create a favicon and upload to my website with dreamweaver. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Good info from Joey... be sure the image is saved as an actual .ico file, not just any small image (.gif, png, etc).
But to clarify, the favicon does not need to be saved in the root folder, it can be anyplace you want, as long as you path it correctly. For example

as you can see, it's a couple folder levels deep.
Also, the favicon will display immediately after uploading to the server, it doesn't take days.... provided you use a browser that has never visited your site before!
That's why many Web page designers post questions about the favicon not showing up on their browser... yet everyone else sees it.
To get the favicon to show up immediately in your browser, you need to remove every trace of having visted your site... and in IE it's a little challenging. Clear the cache (Temp Internet Files folder), remove your site from Favorites, Bookmarks, and any other History stored in the browser.
It's nice to be able to test and see the favicon as soon as it's uploaded and not have to wait a couple days to know if it works!

Most FTP clients have a favourites function so you can easily
and quickly jump around different folders within an FTP site.
I find this really frustrating that dreamweaver doesn't have
this feature built in.
Is there already an extension out there that will perform
this simple function?

Dreamweaver cs5 xsl 2.0

How can I tell if dreamweaver cs5 is using xsl 2.0?
If it is not, am I able to tell dreamweaver to xsl 2.0 so I can make use of it's functions and such?

How or can I add an outside url link to a navagation button in Dreamweaver Cs5.5. If I try the properties/link it says that the link is an html and not a css.....

Linking is done in HTML, not CSS (with the exception of a link to a background picture)
So, if your navigation is a list, you'd have the following in your HTML:
<nav>
     <ul>
          <li><a href="index.html">Home</a></li>
          <li><a href="about.html">About</a></li>
          <li><a href="books.html">Books</a></li>
          <li><a href="http://www.myexternalwebsitelink.com/inboundfromotherwebsite.html">External Link</a></li>
          <li><a href="contact.php">Contact</a></li>
        </ul>
</nav>
Here, in the example above, I'm using the HTML5 <nav>, but that could be an HTML4 <div class="nav"> and you will see a link to an internal page on the same website server for Home, About, Books and Contact with "External Link" pointing to another website external to the one we're on.
