How to add volume to simple shapes?

How can I take simple rectangles like in the attached screenshot and add volume to them to give them more depth so the artwork is not flat. I tried playing with the extrude and bevel effects though was not able to do it. Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Orr draw half the shape path and use the Effevt>3D>Revolve that will give some options for positioning as well the abitilyt to map art to it.

    I am new to this domain. Can someone please guide me through the basics of the process of adding volume meter? I visited many forums but didn't get what I am looking for. I am using Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate.
    I'll appreciate your generous reply.

  • Quick tip help. How to add to vector layers using shape tool

    This is something that's bugged me for a few versions and I'm sure someone has a tip for this.
    When I use Shape Layer tool, I get a solid color with a vector mask. The tool always makes a new layer every time I use the tool. So to get around that, I draw my shapes (one per layer) and then use the Path Selection Tool and cut and paste between Shape Layer layers.
    How can I draw another shape on a currently selected Vector Mask? (I want to build compound Pathfinder-like shapes)

    Yes, press the shift key to add to the current shape layer (vector mask).

  • How to add moving shapes over video?

    Hi,
    I am making a short video that explains how to use some software for my job. I want to make a red rectangle appear around a particular item to highlight it (such as the mouse pointer) and be able to follow the motion of the item. I saw in the Boris documentation there was reference made to vector shapes, but I could not figure out where to create them. How can I create simple shapes that can move around and dynamically change size? Thanks.
    Message was edited by: mbmasuda
    Sorry, I forgot to say I am using Final Cut Express HD 3.5.

    The only way you can do it within FCE is by using motion keyframes. Create the shape in Photoshop, making sure it confirms to your video settings. You may also be able to create the shape within FCE by using a combination of Color (from Video Generators>Matte) and applying Mask Shape to it.
    Set the shape on the video track above your clip (ie clip on V1, shape on V2). Click on the shape to open the motion controls in the Canvas (make sure Image + Wireframe is selected in Canvas). Now use the Motion contorl tab in the Viewer or the Motion handles in the Canvas to move the shape, setting Keyframes to animate the motion

  • How to add a gradient or 50% transparent fill to an .ai imported path?

    Hello All;
    I need some help. My task sounds simple enough but not sure how to accomplish it.
    I created the following path in Illustrator (See attached illustration - the top one). This is actually for a lower-third graphic.
    I have been successful at importating that into .ai. Though should I be using a solid or a shape layer or doesn't it matter ?
    I can add a stroke which affects the color and thickness of the outlines OK.
    However, I can't figure out how to add either a gradient fill or one that is 50% transparent ? Can anyone help ?
    Oh ... I'll mention I'm using After Effects CS3.
    Thanks.
    Tim

    Rick;
    I've used Illustrator for quite a while both at home and at work but I really havn't had to do anything that complex yet. Same goes for Photoshop. I bought DVD tutorials for most of the productivity software I use and when you gave your first explanation, I watched the DVD tutorial on Importing into AE so I know what you're referring to when you say to import as composition. So far, I've only tried to import into AE by copying and pasting. I think that's why I just got the path and not the background. I'll try importing a composition shortly and see if I get the fill too. I actually found a tutorial on making the type of shape I need to in Photoshop so maybe I'll try that instead of Illustrator and then import that into AE.
    Btw - It may not actually be a gradient fill I need to use but instead a solid fill with the top half lighter and buttom half darker.
    In case you're interested, here's actually what I'm trying to create for a video project. I could actually buy the animation for $8 but I figured that this can't be that difficult and I need to learn this stuff anyway ... http://videohive.net/item/lower-third-15-different-colour-schemes/145337?WT.ac=category_th umb&WT.seg_1=category_thumb&WT.z_author=berol

  • How to add new increase the pool rather then trowing a error.

    Im trying to build a game and after many attempts and hours of thinking i did manage to create something that looks like a game.The problem now is that there are so many objects that are constantly creating and removing from the stage. that the game is starting to slow down(it is laggy.).So i have searched the net and understood that i will have to use a "Object pooling Method" rather than creating and removing the objects after i dont have any use of them any more, if i want to make the game more memory friendly.
    At first i didnt want to use this method (object pooling) ,but after a while i understood that i dont have a lot of options.So i started to search how and why and how.
    Yet in this example im just trying this for the bullets (for now) cause if i can do it for them, i can manage to do it for other objects and projects (it will be simple for me to understand what is happening ., what am i doing , when do i add an existing object from the pool and when im creating a new one(when there are non left, things like this)
    i did copy some part of this code from a tutorial that i found in the net but , from then i dont know how to increase the pool rather than throwing this error. I did try to create a new object or to increase the pool length but .... it is not working so im sure that im not doing something the way it must be done.
    so i have this so far :
    its a "simple" pool that calls a simple shape class (circle dot) and gives that to the main stage when the "SPACE" button is pressed

                                                      trace("Bullet disposed");
    any suggestions/help how to do it

    To put you on the path (the errors/events needs formalization), here would be a quick example. Your pool class:
    package
              import flash.display.DisplayObject;
              public class SpritePool
                        private var pool:Array;
                        private var counter:int;
                        private var classRef:Class;
                        // public get to know what's left in the pool
                        public function get availableObjects():int
                                  return counter;
                        public function SpritePool(type:Class, len:int)
                                  classRef = type;
                                  pool = new Array();
                                  counter = len;
                                  var i:int = len;
                                  while (--i > -1)
                                            pool[i] = new classRef();
                        public function getSprite():DisplayObject
                                  if (counter > 0)
                                            return pool[--counter];
                                  else
                                            throw new Error("PoolExhausted");
                        public function returnSprite(s:DisplayObject):void
                                  pool[counter++] = s;
                        public function increasePool(amount:int):void
                                  counter += amount;
                                  while (--amount > -1)
                                            pool.push(new classRef());
                        public function decreasePool(amount:int):void
                                  if (counter >= amount)
                                            counter -= amount;
                                            pool.splice(counter - amount,amount);
                                  else
                                            throw new Error("PoolDecreaseFail");
    Now you'd need to be catching those errors. Again, the errors should be formalized or you could use events by extending IEventDispatcher. I kept it simple.
    Here would be the simple Bullet class I'm using:
    package
              import flash.display.Sprite;
              public class Bullet extends Sprite
                        private var bullet:Sprite;
                        public function Bullet():void
                                  var bullet:Sprite = new Sprite();
                                  bullet.graphics.beginFill(0xFF0000,1);
                                  bullet.graphics.drawCircle(-5,-5,10);
                                  bullet.graphics.endFill();
                                  addChild(bullet);
    Just draws a red circle just to visualize it..
    Here would be a full example of using it. It will import both of these classes (saved as SpritePool.as and Bullet.as in the same folder). Paste this in the actions panel on frame 1:
    import SpritePool;
    import Bullet; // a simple red 10px circle
    import flash.display.Sprite;
    import flash.utils.setTimeout;
    // fill the pool, swim trunks optional
    var pool:SpritePool = new SpritePool(Bullet, 10);
    // grab some objects from the pool
    // array of currently held objects
    var myBullets:Array = new Array();
    while (pool.availableObjects > 0)
              myBullets.push(pool.getSprite());
    // display in random positions
    for (var i:int = 0; i < myBullets.length; i++)
              addChild(myBullets[i]);
              // position
              myBullets[i].x = int(Math.random()*stage.stageWidth);
              myBullets[i].y = int(Math.random()*stage.stageHeight);
    trace("myBullets has " + myBullets.length + " bullets! pool has " + pool.availableObjects + " left.");
    // now I want one more, but I should check for errors
    try
              // fail, none left!
              myBullets.push(pool.getSprite());
    catch (e:*)
              // this should be a custom event, but for speed, quick and dirty
              if (e == 'Error: PoolExhausted')
                        trace("D'oh no more bullets! I need more!");
                        pool.increasePool(10);
                        trace("Added 10 more, now available in pool " + pool.availableObjects);
    // try to reduce the pool by 15, which should error
    try
              pool.decreasePool(15);
    catch (e:*)
              // again should be a formal error
              if (e == 'Error: PoolDecreaseFail')
                        trace("Oops, can't reduce pool by 15! Let's trim all extras, available is " + pool.availableObjects);
                        // we know it'll work, no error checking
                        pool.decreasePool(pool.availableObjects);
                        trace("Left in pool: " + pool.availableObjects);
    // now lets wait 5 seconds and remove it all back to the pool
    setTimeout(ReturnToPool,5000);
    function ReturnToPool():void
              // now let's just return all the objects to the pool
              while (myBullets.length > 0)
                        removeChild(myBullets[myBullets.length - 1]);
                        pool.returnSprite(myBullets.pop());
              // now check the pool, should have 10
              trace("Amount of bullets in use " + myBullets.length + ", in pool " + pool.availableObjects);
    For ease you can just download my example source (saved down to CS5).
    Anything from here is just symantics. For example instead of throwing an error because the pool is too small you could simply increase the pool by a fixed amount yourself and return the objects requested.
    To keep objects as low as possible you could use a timer to measure the amount of objects in use over a duration and reduce the pool appropriately, knowing the pool will grow as it needs.
    All of this is just to avoid unnecessary object creation.
    BTW here's my trace which should match yours:
    myBullets has 10 bullets! pool has 0 left.
    D'oh no more bullets! I need more!
    Added 10 more, now available in pool 10
    Oops, can't reduce pool by 15! Let's trim all extras, available is 10
    Left in pool: 0
    (after 5 seconds)
    Amount of bullets in use 0, in pool 10

    Simple stats.  Buying 2 lottery tickets instead of one, gives you 2 chances to win the lottery prize. Not 1. Even though the odds of winning per ticket remains unchanged.
    2 disks buy you 2 tickets in The-Drive-Failure lottery.
    Back in the 90's, BT (British Telecom) had a 80+ node OPS cluster build with Pyramid MPP hardware. They had a dedicated store of scsi disks for replacing failed disks - as there were disk failure fairly often due to the number of disks. (a Pryamid MPP chassis looked like a Xmas tree with all the scsi drive LEDs, and BT had several)
    In my experience - one should rather expect a drive failure sooner, than later. And have some kind of contingency plan in place to recover from the failure.
    The use of symbolic links instead of striping the filesystem protects from the complete loss of the enchilada if a volume member fails, but it does not reduce the risk of loosing data.
    I would rather buy a single ticket for the drive failure lottery for a root drive, than 2 tickets in this case. And using symbolic links to "offload" non-critical files to the 2nd drive means that its lottery ticket prize is not a non-bootable server due to a toasted root drive.

  • How to add an orange link arrow on a report

    Hi forumers !
    I added an orange link arrow on a simple report (just to know how to add the orange drill down link). My report displays the following fields: CardCode, CardName and Balance taken from OCRD table.
    I want to add a link arrow on CardCode such that if I click on it, I can see the BP card. For this, i added the image of an orange arow, then create a hyperlink on it. The query I used is  'http://$b1$/link?table=OCRD&key='+{OCRD.CardCode}.
    When I run the report and click on the link, IE opens and I get the following error message :"unable to open the page".
    I've tried several ideas found on this forum , but I still getting the same error message.
    My questions are:
    How can I do to correctly see the BP card using the link arrow?
    Is there any security settings in IE I must do in order to display the BP card?
    Thanks !

    Hi Yves
    try to type at the end of your query the following
    select cardcode,cardname,balance from ocrd
    for browse
    and execute it again

    Hello Kumar,
    You have to modify below structure, as this structure is providing the field catalog for output display (ALV).
    Here you can see there are a lot of include structures, so if you want to add fields in the output display you can add those fileds as an append structure to any of the below mentioned structures (Like ukm_s_account, ukm_s_bp_cms_sgm etc as per your requiremnt and positon at which you need to dispaly your fields.)
    DATA: BEGIN OF gt_grid_alv OCCURS 0.
           partner LIKE but000-partner,
           credit_sgmnt LIKE ukmbp_cms_sgm-credit_sgmnt.
            INCLUDE STRUCTURE ukm_s_account.
            INCLUDE STRUCTURE ukm_s_bp_cms_sgm.
    DATA:   credit_sgmnt_txt LIKE ukmcred_sgm0t-credit_sgmnt_txt.
          Gruppe Vector
            INCLUDE STRUCTURE ukm_s_bp_vector.
          Gruppe OBL = Obligo
          include structure UKM_S_BP_CMS_MALUSDSP_OUT.
            INCLUDE STRUCTURE ukm_s_display_segment.
            INCLUDE STRUCTURE ukm_s_bp_cms.
            INCLUDE STRUCTURE bus000_dat.
    *DATA:   icon(4).
          Gruppe RAST (Raster)
    DATA:
             rast01 LIKE ukm_s_display_segment-AMOUNT_GRID,
             rast02 LIKE ukm_s_display_segment-AMOUNT_GRID,
             rast03 LIKE ukm_s_display_segment-AMOUNT_GRID,
             rast04 LIKE ukm_s_display_segment-AMOUNT_GRID,
             rast05 LIKE ukm_s_display_segment-AMOUNT_GRID,
             rast06 LIKE ukm_s_display_segment-AMOUNT_GRID.
    DATA:    rast2_6 LIKE ukm_s_display_segment-AMOUNT_GRID.
    "Summe raster 2 bis 6
    DATA:  END OF gt_grid_alv.
    Another way is you can  go  to SE38, and you can create implicit enhancements.One enhancement point is available here in this required area. so create an implementation and add your fileds with data types.This way is also simple.
    Hope this will solve yiour problems.

  • How to add additional lines to the Order Form template?

    I purchased and installed Acrobat Pro 9 because of its ability to create forms and found the Order Form template is just perfect for what I need, why reinvent the wheel, right?   Except I found I can't figure out how to add additional object that duplicate what is already there.  I highlighted an entire row and tried to just copy and paste but the past function put the copied objects at the bottom of the form in what looks like a group, all out of order.  I tried looking in the online help for a possible key combination that would inset an additional row of objects but couldn't find any.
    Also the form doesn't move down and create a new page keeping all the other elements in line, it moves to the bottom of the current page and stops.   Thought the template was based on a table so I was going to insert additional rows thinking once it reached the bottom of the current page it would automatically break to a new page and continue, but it's not a table.  So my question is, how can I add duplicate object that match the Order Form templates Item, Description, etc. objects?  I've come to realize learning to use this product is not going to be as simple a proposition as I was lead to believe.  O well, live and learn!
    If someone can point me in the right direction, any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Barney! It's even easier than the solution I came to: copying and pasting into the field.
