How to archive old log files

Hi,
our OS is AIX and DB is DB2.
there are no of files present in sapmnt/<SID>/global/<client no.>JOBLG directory, which are more than 1 week old.
could you please help me to archive the list of files either from SAP Level or from OS level
Thanks,
Mohan

Hi
i agree with Juan.. in this point - If they are older than a week and you want to keep them just make a backup of them and delete them from the system...
Just schedule reorg jobs RSBTCDEL2 should delete old batch job logs... it recommended by SAP not to schedule RSBTCDEL as it deletes all the log files. you can use the program RSBTCDEL2.
Thanks & Regards
Gopi

  • Delete old and unused Archived Redo Log Files

    Hello forum!
My db was in ARCHIVELOG mode and It created 9GB of archived redo log files.
Now I put the db in NOARCHIVELOG mode, can I delete all the ARLF? am I sure that the DB never need those files in the future?
If yes, how can I delete them? I will use 'del' operative system command?
In addition, I found this command:
    SQL>alter database open resetlogs;
is it useful for my purpose?
    thank you!

You are safe to remove those archivelog files if you altered your database to no archive log mode. Just remove them from OS level
Please bear in mind that database in no archivelog mode will lost data in the event of disaster.
SQL>alter database open resetlogs;Doesn't help in your situation, it's use to bring up database after incomplete recovery.

  • Old log files

    Hi!
I am about to go crazy. My HD is full and apparently it is thanks to my old log files. I am trying to delete them but a box appears saying that the files could not be deleted because an error occurred. I tried to delete the chat history too but same thing happens. Does anybody know what happened and how can I free up space in my "other" section of my HD? Thanks!
    -Valentina

    Hi Valentina20,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
There is a fantastic article I suggest your read over and use as a reference in this situation. The linked article explains ways of freeing up disk space and helps explain what the “Other” category is.

  • How to create different log files for each of web applications deployed in OC4J

    Hi All,
I am using OC4J(from Oracle) v1.0.2.2 and Windows2000. Now I want to know
    1. how to create different log files for each of my deployed web applications ?
    2. what are the advantages in running multiple instances of oc4j and in what case we should run
    multiple instances of OC4J ?
    3. how to run OC4J as Windows2000 Service rather than Windows2000 Application ?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Kumar.

    Hi Avi,
First of all I have given a first reading to log4j and I think there will some more easy way of logging debugging messages than log4j (If you could provide me a detailed explanation of a servlet, jsp, java bean that uses log4j and how to use log4j then it will be very helpful for me). The other easy ways (if I am not using log4j) to my problem i.e creating different log files for each of web applications deployed in oc4j are
I have created multiple instances of OC4J that are configured to run on different ports and so on each instance I have deployed a single web application . And I started the 2 oc4j instances by transferring thier error/log messages to a file. And the other way is ..
I have download from jakarta site a package called servhelper . This servhelper is a thread that is started in a startup servlet and stopped in the destroy method of that startup servlet. So this thread will automatically capture all the system.out.println's and will print those to a file. I believe that this thread program is synchronized. So in this method I need not run multiple instances of OC4J instead each deployed web application on single instance of oc4j uses the same thread program (ofcourse a copy of thread program is put in each of the deployed web applications directories) to log messages on to different log files.
Can you comment on my above 2 approached to logging debugging messages and a compartive explanation to LOG4J and how to use LOG4J using a simple servlet, simple jsp is appreciated ...
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ravi.

  • How to delete old logs in SAP BI, what is the best way to go?

    Hi,
below are the issues we are facing,
when executing infopackage job is not getting triggred into source system.
for activation DSO data it is taking huge time. At the time of seqential read to RSREQDONE table.
I think this is due to huge logs in the staandard tables.
What could be the reson behind this.. and let me know how to delete old logs.
    Thanks,
    Harish

    Hi,
just carry out RSRV for DSO PSA tables and see if there is inconsistency available there in the PSA table.
see if the change log and PSA deletion is happening regularly..else schedule same in PC
check with basis there are certain jobs which needs to run regularly at certain frequency..

  • Hoping for a quick response : EXP and Archived REDO log files

I apologize in advance if this question has been asked and answered 100 times. I admit I didn't search, I don't have time. I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow, and I need to know if I'm correct about something to do with backup / restore.
we have 10g R2 running a single instance on a single server. The application vendor has "embedded" oracle with their application. The vendor's backup is a batch file using EXP - thus:
    exp system/xpwdxx@db full=y file=D:\Orant\admin\db\EXP\db_full.dmp log=D:\Orant\admin\db\EXP\db_full.txt direct=y compress=y
This command is executed nightly at midnight. The files are then backed up by our nightly backup to offsite storage media.
Te database is running in autoarchive mode. The problem is, the archived redo files filled the drive they were being stored on, and it is the drive the database is on. I used OS commands to move 136G of archived redo logs onto other storage media to free the drive.
My question: Since the EXP runs at midnight, when there is likely NO activity, do I need to run in AutoArchive Mode? From what I have read, you cannot even apply archived redo log files to this type of backup strategy (IMP) Is that true? We are ok losing changes since our last EXP. I have read a lot of stuff about restoring consistent vs. inconsistent, and just need to know: If my disk fails, and I have to start with a clean install of Oracle and nothing else, can I IMP this EXP and get back up and running as of the last EXP? Or do I need the autoarchived redo log files back to July 2009 (136G of them).
    Hoping for a quick response
Best Regards, and thanks in advance

Thank you for your quick reply. I am reading in the other responses that since I am using EXP without consistent=y, I might not even have a backup. The application vendor said that with this dmp file they can restore us to the most recent backup. I don't really care for this strategy as it is untested. I asked them to verify that they could restore us and they said they tested the dmp file and it was OK.
Thank you for taking the time to reply.
    Best Regards
BruceThe dump file is probably ok in the sense it is not corrupted and can be used in an imp operation. That doesn't mean the data in it is transactionally consistent. And to use it at all, you have to have a database up and running. If the database is physically corrupted, you'll have to rebuild a new database from scratch before you can even think about using your dmp file.
Vendors never understand databases. I once had a vendor tell me that Oracle's performance would be intolerable if there were more than 5 concurrent connections. Well, maybe in HIS product ..... Discussions terminated quickly after he made that statement.

  • Recover Database is taking more time for first archived redo log file

    Hai,
    Environment Used :
Hardware : IBM p570 machine with P6 processor Lpar of .5 CPU and 2.5 GB Ram
    OS : AIX 5.3 ML 07
    Cluster: HACMP 5.4.1.2
    Oracle Version: 9.2.0.4 RAC
    SAN : DS8100 from IBM
I have used flash copy option to copy the database from production to test machine. Then tried to recover the database to an consistent state using the command "recover automatic database until cancel". System is taking long time and after viewing the alert log it was found that, for the first time, if it is reading all the datafiles and it is taking 3 seconds for each datafile. Since i have more than 500 datafiles, it is nearly taking 25 mins for applying the first archived redo log file. All other log files are applied immeidately without any delay. Any suggession to improve the speed will be highly appreciated.
    Regards
    Sridhar

After chaning the LPAR settings with 2 CPU and 5GB RAM, the problem solved.

  • How i can access log file in servlet?

How i can access log file in servlet then display it to browser.
Can i have peice of codes...
              Thanks in advance.!

This is not something that can be answered easily. There is quite alot of code involved....
To get started I suggest you read up on the built-in package 'DBMS_LOB' from Oracle . Most of what you need you should find there.

  • How open and see Log File in Active Directory

    Hello Friends..   ^-^
how i can open log files active directory and see this data files ?
    Can export this logs ?
    thanks for help.

And adds a definition of edbxxxxx.log for completeness:
These are auxiliary transaction logs used to store changes if the main Edb.log file
gets full before it can be flushed toNtds.dit.
The xxxxx stands for a sequential number in hex. When the Edb.log file
    fills up, an Edbtemp.log file
is opened. The original Edb.log file
is renamed to Edb00001.log, and Edbtemp.log is
    renamed to Edb.log file,
and the process starts over again. Excess log files are deleted after they have been committed. You may see more than one Edbxxxxx.log file
if a busy domain controller has many updates pending.
