How to automate an oracle 8i database startup

I have an Oracle 8i database with the SID = MUKREC and installed on C:\
Whenever the computer is restarted, the database doesnot startup automatically
But has to be started manually. What could be the cause of this issue and how
can I resolve it. So that whenever I restart the PC I donot have to start the
database manually.
Thanks
Kaybroz

Dear Pravintakpire,
Thanks alot for the reply but,
When I open the Services console, there is a service called OracleServiceMukrec and its startup type is already Automatic and the status is showing 'Starting'
Me I suspect the issue may be arising on the init.ora file because when I try to use the GUI(DBA Studio) to start the database I realise that it is pointing to "C:\Oracle\Ora81\sysman\ifiles\def_MUKREC.ora" as the init.ora file yet it should be pointing to "C:\Oracle\admin\Mukrec\pfile\init.ora"
So how should go about it and what's your opnion concerning this.
Thanks

    I can share my scripts:
    1) /home/oracle/start_oracle.sh
#Script should be ran as Oracle user
    cd /tmp
    export ORACLE_SID=orcl
    export ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/ora9i
    lsnrctl start
    sqlplus -S /nolog <<ENDSQL

  • Personal Oracle 8i Database startup password

Can someone provide the database startup password for Personal Oracle 8i.I have tried passwords like "oracle","sys","manager"in both uppercase and lowercase.
None of this works.I have read the required documentation for the same. But I haven't recd any information.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Normally this combination should work.
    Anyway, try this out.
    In the command prompt,
    set ORACLE_SID=<sid name>
    start server manager/svrmgrl
    connect internal.
At this juncture , if you are getting errors, exit the svrmgr application.
try to reset the password for internal with a new password file. (Backup the old one).
    Tr connecting.

  • How do you query Oracle RDF database using Java program?

Does anyone know how to get data out of the oracle RDF database using Java?
I'm running the following java code and it returns basically null values. My guess is that the get_triple() function returns a dataset other than resultset. I've tried searching the Oracle web site. Am I supposed to be using CLOB object? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
    sql = "SELECT a.triple.GET_TRIPLE() AS triple FROM family_rdf_data a";
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery( sql ) ;
    while ( rs.next() )
    System.out.println( rs.getString(1) ) ;
    rs.close() ;

get_triple() returns an object, and the code would be different from the code of retrieving a string. Some sample code for retrieving objects is at http://www.oracle.com/technology/sample_code/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/files/advanced/advanced.html
get_subject(), get_property() return strings so the code below should work. get_object() returns a CLOB so different handling would be required and there is some sample code at the link above.

  • How to know which Oracle version database I am using ?

    Hi all,
I am configuring an administrative file on the server and there are many databases in our company : there are Oracle8i, Oracle9i and Oracle 10g databases.
What I know only is the connect string which I use to connect to a database via Sql*Plus. But I do not know if it is in 8i or 9i or 10g.
So can you help me how to know the database version which I am using ?
    Thank you very much indeed.

To be clear I tell you my big problem : I am developing a forms application. There is a specification in my project telling that if the end-user does nothing during a periode of time which can be set by an administrative user , say 3 minutes , then the end-user session is disconnected. So how to implement this ?
I tried to use profile and the sqlnet.expire_time but it is too long greater than the set time-limit !
So what is the best way to implement this functionality ?
Note that in my forms application, I wrote a query on the dba_profiles view to get the value of the column limit for the resource_name idle_time. All users , that is the "public" keyword , have been granted select on dba_profiles by sys , and this value of the limit column is the time-limit I used in my forms. When the forms application is run then there is a timer created which periodically tests connection to the database by issuing a simple select statement. The periodicity of the timer is set to the value of the limit column in dba_profiles plus one minute because I set sqlnet.expire_time to 1 minute. When the disconnection arrives then there should be a message displayed to the end-user saying that he cannot do anything because his session has been stoped.
I think I was clear and I am waiting for a good advice from all of you.
    Thank you very much indeed.

  • How to use the Oracle Cloud Database Service

    Hi,
I got the trial version of Oracle cloud Database service. How to use that?
I wanted it to deploy the schema for my application. It needs the db to be pingable. I should be able to ping the db using the tnsping command.
Can any body help in this regard?
    Regards
    Anil

    Anil -
You cannot communicate with the Database Cloud Service from outside the Public Cloud with SQL*Net or over TCP/IP, as explained in the FAQ, located here https://cloud.oracle.com/mycloud/f?p=service:database_faq:0:::::.   The Database Cloud Service is a PaaS, not a DBaaS, so you won't be able to ping it in the way you describe.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to Connect to Oracle 9i database server via Oracle 10g XE

I have installed Oracle 10g eXpress Edition and uninstalled Oracle 9i client database. I used Oracle 9i client to connect to another Database server on a local LAN. Is it possible to create a database link to the old Oracle 9i database server via Oracle 10g XE? If yes, do I need to add ODBC drivers?
I want to achieve the following:
    1) Create a connection to the Oracle 9i database server using Ora101040 odbc drivers.
    2) Use a similar 9i tool (Enterprise Management Console) within Oracle 10g XE to access Oracle 9i Database tables on a LAN network.
    3) Create data access to Oracle 10g XE via some ODBC connection from a C++ runtime application.
Hope to receive help from Oracle professionals.
    Thanks.

I have installed Oracle 10g eXpress Edition and
uninstalled Oracle 9i client database. I used OraclePlease clarify - you uninstalled the 9i database or the 9i client.
9i client to connect to another Database server on a
local LAN. Is it possible to create a database link
to the old Oracle 9i database server via Oracle 10g
XE? If yes, do I need to add ODBC drivers?
Database links between Oracle databases do not require ODBC. They do require Oracle Networking (included with both Oracle9i Database and Oracle Database 10g XE) to be configured correctly.
It is also possible to connect ot the 9i database using the 10g Instant Client (separate download)
I want to achieve the following:
    1) Create a connection to the Oracle 9i database
server using Ora101040 odbc drivers. Please clarify - what client do you wish to run that needs ODBC?
    2) Use a similar 9i tool (Enterprise Management
Console) within Oracle 10g XE to access Oracle 9i
Database tables on a LAN network.XE does not have an equivalent to Oracle Enterprise Manager. XE does come with HTMLdb preinstalled and configured, and HTMLdb provides a subset of the administration capabilities of Enterprise Manager.
    3) Create data access to Oracle 10g XE via some ODBC
connection from a C++ runtime application. You can download ODBC drivers from the same location on OTN you downloaded XE. I do not know whether XE includes ODBC drivers. ODBC drivers will usually still require you to configure the Oracle Networking.
There are a number of items that make me believe you do not have a good grasp of Oracle architecture and basics. If true, I encoureage you to start reading the Concepts manual found for the database at http://docs.oracle.com, or at least the O'Reilly book 'Oracle Essentials' found at http://oracle.oreilly.com

  • How to connect from Oracle 9i database on windows to sap database (orcle 8)

    Hi,
I really need expert advice from anyone..I wud like to connect my Oracle 9i database running on windows platforms to SAP database (oracle 8) running on Unix platform.
Is there any special code to establish the connectivity...or we can simply use the ORacle net services(tnsnames.ora) file to connect to the SAP database??
I wud really appreciate any expert comments on this.
    Thank you
    Ratheesh

    Hi Ratheesh
If you are able to create an ODBC connection from the Windows Oracle server to the SAP database then you can use Oracle Heterogeneous Services to query the SAP database from Oracle through a DB link. To configure Heterogeneous Services is quite easy. You put an entry into the SID_LIST_LISTENER part of the listener.ora file:
    (sid_desc=
          (sid_name=hsql)
          (oracle_home=C:\oracle\ora92)
          (program=hsodbc)
)  Then create an entry in your tnsnames.ora file to connect to your new listener service:
    apmacnew =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = tcp)(HOST = cntrra20-lab20)(PORT = 1527))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (Service_name = apmacnew)
        (HS = ok)
)And lastly create a database link using the tnsnames entry.

  • How  to get the oracle 10g database backup.

    Hi,
i have installed oracle 10g.i need to get the back up of db.
i have search so many sites.i didn't get much information.
some guys tells we go to installed directory in that run"RAMNS".
i am following in the process.after run the rams which commands
i have to used to get the db back up.
    C:\Oracle\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN\RAMNS
RAMNS>...(here is the prob which commands i have to used)
i have seen another way solution is you can use "imp" and "exp" present in BIN to take back up.(how to follow this)
    please help me,

Would suggest you read the docs on backup, restore. if you cannot restore you db, you are in trouble. read it and understand it well.
    Summary:
For 10g, you have rman, imp/exp and datapump import/export (replaces imp/exp).
For very simple backups where you have windows you can shut down, run a cold backup. shutdown the database, copy the database files, and startup. i also take copies of the current pfile and anything else important to restore the database with. we copy the files to a dedicated backup file system, which go to tap, e.
That will give you a simple option to restore.
For prod databases, you typically want archive mode on which means you can run hot or online backups. just remember you have to have the archive logs generated during the hot backup. you now also have the ability to do a point in time restore.
Exp or datapump exp can be used for metadata exports, full exports or partial (schema, table, etc) as needed. i typically run a cold or hot plus an export for redundacy and restore options, but db size will change how you back things up.
You can find plenty of scripts to automate these. just understand how the scripts work and understand the process itself. if not, you will have trouble restoring when it is needed the most.
Rman is also a good option with the latest releases.

  • Oracle 8i Database Startup Problems

May I ask some Oracle database problems ?
    1. After installing Oracle8i database on SUN Solaries,
when I run CREATE DATABASE command in nomount mode, it
    said
    "ORA-03113:end-of-file on communication channel" but
    the database is created.
    Then I run "catalog.sql" and "catproc.sql"
    2. But when I "startup" the database, after the
databse is mounted, it said "ORA-01403: no data
found". I don't know whether the database is opened
    normally or not.
    3. When I login with account SYSTEM (sqlplus
system/manager), it said "ORA-01034: ORACLE not
available". It seems just OS Authentication works.
    Those oracle background processes
(SMON,CKPT,LGWR,PMON,DBW0) already exist and redo log
    file online.
    Thanks a lot

Really to create a database manually is not so easy and automatically task. If you want to create a database manually you have to do this:
    1.- Create initSID.ora file
    2.- Set enviroment variables
    3.- Create passwordfile
4.- Startup in nomunt the instance
5.- Create the database ( if this step fail , do not follow ahead )
6.- To run catalog & catproc scripts
    7.- Create additional tablespaces
    8.- shutdown the database
    9.- Startup the database.
    for more details, Chapter 2:
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96521.pdf
if you have Database Creation Assistance you can do it
    easier.
