How to calcualate prior year

Hi All,
If I select current year in a column promt, then I want to calculate prior year.
For eg. I have List Box promt based on year column with values 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008 etc..
If I select any one year, lets say 2011, then I should automatically calculate prior year which is 2010 so as to pull data in analysis for 2011 as well as 2010.
How to achieve this.?
Thanks in Advance
Warm Regards
Santosh

Thanks Deva and Satya for your inputs..
Now please look at the following situation ..
I need to create a PnL report such that I show current years profit and loss AND prior year profit and loss figures in a report side by side for comparitive analysis for user.
My data is an essbase database, and have a years dimension with values 'current year' , 'F08', and 'Prior Year'. and other measurs such as net revenue, % revenue, gross profit, cost of sales, operating expenses etc. (I am using 107 from oracle downloads) for obiee 11.5
I also have a scenario dimension with members as Actual, plan, Forecast, Wht -if..
Now I need to create a this report.
I created this report based on my approch mentioned below;
Appraoch 1
- Created two analysis reports with all the above columns.
- specified filter for year column equal to 'current year' for first report
- specified filter for year column equal to 'prior year' for second report
- created a dashboard with a promt (radio button) based on column scenario with all values (Actual, plan, Forecast, Wht -if)
- created two sections placed side by side below the prompt and placed thoese reports in those two sections so that they appear side by side.
The promt is placed above those two sections.
Nw when I run this dashboard, it works fine, and shows me the current and prior data for actual, plan etc...
BUT....
I need to create the same information for current and prior year PnL using a single analysis report instead of two separate reports with hardcoded values
for year filter.
Now I tried use AGO funtions on but , it requires a column with numerical value so that it can calculate the past year, but in my case, year is a column
hving text values ('current year' , 'F08', and 'Prior Year') and hence I cant use it.
I would like to know how to build such a report using any other approach (using variables or function or any rpd level modifitions).
Is there any trik which I can do at report level , (duplicatiing columns or any other thing ) I can do this?
Please help me to build logic either at analysis level or at repository level
Thanks and Regards

  • How to calculate Prior Year To Date in SSRS

    Hi,
I've been developing reports in Crystal for a while. The new ERP software we have just purchased uses SSRS for all of their reports. I just started converting the crystal reports to SSRS. I can't seem to find an easy way to do a calculation for Prior Year
to Date or Prior Year Month to Date in SSRS. Can somebody help me?
    Thanks,
    Cindy

Your best bet would be to use a calendar table in the TSQL queries. I wrote an article on them here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/29260.tsql-calendar-functions-and-tables.aspx
Alternatively you can use a formula like:
    =DateValue(DATEADD(DateInterval.Day,1-DATEPART(DateInterval.DayOfYear,NOW()),Now()))
Don't forget to mark helpful posts, and answers. It helps others to find relevant posts to the same question.

  • How to Get Prior Year Month Value in Query

I have a query requirement to get the Sales and Sales Previous Year in the result line for a Product.
Calendar Month is also in the rows of the query.
Example - I would need Sales for 10/2009 and Sales Previous Year for 10/2008.
I'm using the variable CMONTH as an interval with offsets to get 24 months before and after the current month.
How can I get Sales Previous Year on the same line as using variable offsets on 0CMONTH does not work as
0CMONTH is always considered to be the current month ?

Yes, I understand - sorry, I was thinking about 0calmonth2 or is it 3 ??, the one with just the month, not the year, being in the rows.... it will give you the breakdown by months for each column.
if you want to be able to select on the months, create an interval variable on the 0calmonth2 like mentioned already - you wont need to offset on that one though, because you already got the offset on the year...

  • Time series questions - how to do AGO function for prior year end

Question on how to perform the following calculation in OBIEE:
I need to create a time series calculation that will calculate a metric as of Dec prior year. For example, my users will select Mar 2010. I want to show the amount for Mar 10 as well as the amount for Dec 09. If the select Jun 10, I will show them the amount for that month as well as Dec 09.
Is there a way to do an AGO function that will give me this value? I can't use a filter calculation on my column because filter on the period will exclude these records

Thanks John. Your suggestions seems promising but I'm having issues when I tried it out. I am receiving the following error message:
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 22046] To use AGO function, the query level ('Fiscal Period, Prior Fiscal Year End Date') must be a static level. (HY000)
What I did was create a new level off my Fiscal Time dimension which is a child of Total. I tried creating my AGO calculation using this level but received that error message in Asnwers. Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong?

  • How to use the Time Variants PYTD and Prior Year Annual?

    Hi,
We have a time dimension which has the generic columns i.e Month, Year.
We need to calculate the Time variants for the Facts Say Sales. I was able to calculate the Prior Month, Current YTD
I have some doubts regarding the other variants:
    1. Prior Year : Does this include the Prior Year Annual?
    2. Prior YTD: How to calculate it?
Somehow I am getting the same results for PYTD and Prior Year.
    The formula used are :
    Prior Year:
    AGO(Sales, Year, 1)
    PYTD:
    AGO(Sales CYTD, Year, 1)
    Has anybody encountered similar issue?

I assume the Sales measure is a monthly measure. The Prior year calculation as I described will give you the sales for the same month in the previous year when selecting month in your report. When selecting year it will add up all months of the prior year until now and you will indeed see the Prior year YTD.
If you want to see the total sales for the previous year you have to use the same calculation as 'Prior year' and map it to the year level of your time dimension. This will work as a 'partition by year'.

  • How do I move prior years' Turbo Tax data from Snow Leopard computer to my new Mavericks mini?

I bought a new mini, but don't know how to transfer my old Turbo Tax returns/history/files over from
my iMac (Snow Leopard) to the mini (Mavericks). I ended up doing my 2013 taxes on my old computer
because I needed to have 2012 data imported for 2013 returns, but I would like to get all of
my Turbo Tax history on the mini. HELP (please!)  Thank you!

This reminds me of an anecdote that I used to tell people to describe certain aspects of computer media and is somewhat relevant here.  The story is oobviously 20 years old, and the facts have been changed to make my point:
My wife recently came back from Italy with a VHS cassette of an Italian movie that she wanted to watch on our VHS player at home.
I sent the cassette out to a local video conversion store, so that they could convert the VHS tape from PAL to NTSC.
When my wife played the newly converted tape on our home VHS player, she exclaimed: "But it is still in Italian!"
I have no experience with Turbo Tax.  But I suspect that in prior years (especially prior to 2007) it was coded in PowerPC code.
In 2007, Apple converted its entire line of computers to the Intel CPU (from the PowerPC CPU), but in order to allow its existing user base to continue to use its PowerPC software, they included a transparent emulation layer in Mac OS X Tiger (Intel), Leopard, and optionally in Snow Leopard, called Rosetta.
Rosetta allowed users to continue to use their library of PowerPC apps without much problem.
Due to the expiration of its third party license, Rosetta is no longer included in Lion, Mt. Lion or Mavericks.
Moral of the Story: If the earlier versions of Turbo Tax are not Intel compliant, they will not run on your new Mac Mini, unless you install Snow Leopard Server ($20 from the Apple Store, by telephone orders only; part number: MC588Z/A) installed into Parallels ($79 retail).
If the latest version of Turbo Tax will open older Turbo Tax data files, this may not be a problem for you.
That is how I am able to continue to access my older Quicken Deluxe 2002 data files when necessary.

  • SSRS Matrix report. Variance expression by Month. Need to compare month from prior year to current month of current year VS2010

Please help.  I have a matrix report.  In the report I have row group  PO Type.  One the Column groups I have a parent group by Fiscal Year, and then a child group by Month.  When I run the report, I get two years of data back broken
out by month.  Please see below.
Now here is where I am getting stuck.  I need to take the variance between the current month of the current year, from the same month of the prior year.  So I need to show the difference between Oct , 2014 from Oct, 2013. November, 2014 from November
    2013... etc. etc.
In the example below, how do I create a column or row showing the variance for Contracts for October 2014.  I need to take the contracts for October 2014 which is 3 and subtract that from October 2013 which is 8.  Any suggestions? How do I do that
for each month?  Then I need to do it for the quarter... then the year?  But I'll be happy if I can just get the month working first.
    Any help will be appreciated.
here is what my rdl file looks like.
Here is what my report looks like when I render it.

    Hi Adrian_s2012,
According to your description, you want to compare values for the month of current year with the month of prior year and get the variance. Right?
In Reporting Services, we don't have any function to get this "Year to Year" Growth. In this scenario, if you data source is a cube, we suggest you use Analysis Services to achieve your requirement. If this data source is just from database, it will be hardly
to calculate the variance because we need to compare the values within every two different column group and matrix generate adjacent columns one by one. Even we make it by using custom, every time executing the long code when generating result
in a cell will reduce a lot of performance, we really don't suggest to do that in SSRS. Here is a thread with much easier requirement, please take a reference of that:
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/842e2dcb-d949-4297-9d91-eac989692cb5/difference-between-the-grouped-column?forum=sqlreportingservices
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • Clearing of down payments on assets from prior year

    Hello,
we have the following problem with an Asset under Construction (AuC) that has been migrated from a legacy system with down payments in a prior year.
Migration has taken place in 2007 (within the year). The down payment has not been cleared in 2007, but left on the asset for 2008. The clearing of the down payment on vendor side has already taken place in 2007.
When the AuC shall now be settled to a final asset via AIBU, the error message AW605 "Down payment to recipient YYYY area 01 amount XXXX not cleared" appears.
When the down payment on the Asset under Construction shall be cleared first with transaction ABSO (TType 181 "Clearing of down payments from current year"), the following error message appears: AA571 "Not possible to post down payment clearing. There are no down payments".
In our SAP Version 6.0 there is NO transaction type "Clearing of down payments from prior year", though.
Would appreciate any indication how to deal with the issue now - do we need to create a special transaction type for this purpose? If yes, how to configure the settings so that SAP knows to clear down payments from prior year?
Thanks very much in advance for any help!
    Gabi

I replied to your second post
But my question is then how does the down payment appears in the CJI3 report
Also, I am aware of your initial post. I feel, the details you gave is insufficient. You have just said there are two down payments made against a PO one is reflecting in WBSE another one is not. It will be difficult for others to suggest you a proper solution, You will have to give more detials as how you made the two down payments and you should tell us apart from appearing in WBSE what are all the other differences ..etc., You should give as much details as possible.

  • Previous and Prior Year Date Values

How do I get the Previous, Prior year month and Prior year previous month values from a given date?
    Ex: Input would be: 05/01/2008
    The output should be:
    05/01/2008 - Current Month
04/01/2008 - Previous Month for the Current Year
05/01/2007 - Prior year current Month
04/01/2007 - Prior Year Previous Month
    Please let me know..

    Hi,
Then you'll probably do a self-join. In one copy of the table, you'll get the data from date d1, and in the other copy, you'll get the data from date ADD_MONTHS (d1, -12).
If, ultimately, you are going to show four sets of figures (from four different rows representing four different dates) on the same output line, then you may find it more convenient to do a pivot rather than a self-join. Search for the buzz word "pivot" and you'll get lots of examples. You might start by selecting four rows:
    WHERE   dt IN
            ( d1
            , ADD_MONTHS (d1, -1)
            , ADD_MONTHS (d1, -12)
            , ADD_MONTHS (d1, -13)
) ...and then pivoting that data into four columns:
    SELECT  ...
,       MAX (CASE WHEN dt = d1                   THEN val END) AS this_month
    ,       MAX (CASE WHEN dt = ADD_MONTHS (d1, -1)  THEN val END) AS one_month_ago
    ,       MAX (CASE WHEN dt = ADD_MONTHS (d1, -12) THEN val END) AS one_year_ago
    ,       MAX (CASE WHEN dt = ADD_MONTHS (d1, -13) THEN val END) AS thirteen_months_ago
    ...

  • Averaging a value of a range from prior year

    Hi our requirement is :
Account1-> Budget = Avg of Account1 of prior year from Jun to Mar ->Actual+ Avg of Account1 of prior to prior year for Apr & May->Actual
I tried with @Avgrange & @ Prior but without success.
    Can anyone provide a soulution?
    Thanks in advance..

Not sure how robust\elegant you need your solution (is it a one-off seeding exercise?)
Anyway, something like this should work (i'm sure there are more clever ways out there if that's what you need)
    FIX(Budget, etc)
    Account1 = (@SUMRANGE(Account1->PriorYear,Jun:Mar) + @SUMRANGE(Account1->PriorPriorYear,Apr:May)) / 12;
    ENDFIX
or if you are seeding a budget from Actuals would work across a range of accounts.
    FIX(AccountList)
    Budget = (@SUMRANGE(Actual->PriorYear,Jun:Mar) + @SUMRANGE(Actual->PriorPriorYear,Apr:May)) / 12;
    ENDFIX

  • Prior Year Measure Without a Date Table

I have a table of General Ledger data in the format below... my desired end result is to have Fiscal Year as a slicer, a measure showing the sum of dollars for the selected Fiscal Year, and another measure showing the sum of the dollars for the Prior Fiscal
Year (based on slicer selection).  Without a date table, I am struggling with how to do this... below is my failed attempt, any suggestions?
    =CALCULATE([Dollars],LG_ACTUAL_VS_BUDGET_V[FISCAL_YEAR]-1)
    Fiscal   Year
    Fiscal Period
    Dollar Value
    2014
    1
    100
    2014
    2
    200
    2014
    3
    300
    2013
    1
    1000
    2013
    2
    2000
    2013
    3
    3000

    Fiscal Sales :=
    SUM ( 'LG_ACTUAL_VS_BUDGET_V'[Dollar Value] )
    Prior Year Fiscal Sales :=
    CALCULATE (
        [Fiscal Sales],
        FILTER (
            ALL ( 'LG_ACTUAL_VS_BUDGET_V' ),
            'LG_ACTUAL_VS_BUDGET_V'[Fiscal Year]
                = MAX ( 'LG_ACTUAL_VS_BUDGET_V'[Fiscal Year]
    ) - 1
The second (and following) arguments to CALCULATE() have to be filter expressions or table expressions.
In this case we are using the table expression, FILTER() - confusing, that.
ALL( 'LG_ACTUAL_VS_BUDGET_V' ) means that we'll be applying a filter to every value in LG_ACTUAL_VS_BUDGET_V
and returning a table that is a subset of that table based on the second argument to FILTER(). This is necessary, because your row filter (in this case the [Fiscal Year] that will be in the pivot table) would otherwise eliminate values for other years from
    the filter context.
The second argument to our FILTER():
           'LG_ACTUAL_VS_BUDGET_V'[Fiscal
    Year]
                = MAX ( 'LG_ACTUAL_VS_BUDGET_V'[Fiscal Year]
    ) - 1
This compares the values in the column [Fiscal Year] to MAX ( 'LG_ACTUAL_VS_BUDGET_V'[Fiscal
Year] ) - 1. The MAX() function respects your row filter (remember, the [Fiscal Year] in the pivot table), and is necessary because we need to convert the values in that column to a single scalar value. We then subtract one.
Thus FILTER() is returning a table of all values from LG_ACTUAL_VS_BUDGET_V where
the fiscal year is the prior fiscal year compared to the current row context. This table is being used as the second argument to CALCULATE().
CALCULATE() then determines the value of [Fiscal Sales] in the context of that table.
I hope this helps a bit with your understanding of what's going on and how to properly
    use CALCULATE().

  • HR:Performance Appraisal:Can we Hide Prior Year Plans

Is it possible to hide prior year performance appraisal plans from the Self service Talent Management Task List through personalization.
If so How to accomplish ?.
    Regards,

Q.1 If an appraisal form has been started for an employee and employee leaves the company, what should be done with the form as a best business practice? How is it best achieved?
<i>A: There is no recommended procedure on how performance appraisals of terminated employees can be handled.  Users can continue to leave the appraisal form in the current state.
Alternatively, they could also "force change" the status to completed for terminated employees after a period of time.  This will terminate any active workflows last triggered upon between the ex-employee and the manager</i>
Q.2 If an employee changes managers during the year all managers must be included in the appraisal process. Can this be done automatically? If so, should they be part appraisers?
<i>A. Standard SAP seems not to cater for automated manager / appraiser change in the header when the employee switches manager.
One possible best practice you may want to consider is to activate the "change header" functionality for the appraisee to change the name of the manager themselves.  Alternative, the task can be assigned to the appraisals administrator.</i>

  • Translating at Prior Year and Plan Rates

I have a rule with a few accounts that are populated by values out of the P&L rollup. Here is an example: in my Calculate Sub, I have:
    If pov_TransCur = False then
    HS.Exp "A#NetSales_PYRates=A#NetSales.I#[ICP Top]"
    End If
    Where pov_TransCur = HS.Value.IsTransCur
And in my Sub Translate, I have:
    PY_Avg_Rate = HS.GetRate("A#AverageRate.Y#Prior")
    HS.Clear"A#NetSales_PYRates"
    HS.TransPeriodic "A#NetSales_PYRates","",PY_Avg_Rate,""
The Results in my Child Entity are:
    Entity Currency USD
Net Sales 7.194 Mill. 7.203 Mill
    NetSales_PYRates 7.194 Mill. 6.144 Mill.
Which is Great, that is what I want.
However at the Parent Level I get:
    Entity Currency USD
Net Sales 7.203 Mill. 7.203 Mill
    NetSales_PYRates 7.203 Mill. 7.203 Mill.
I need to see the 6.144 Million in USD in the NetSales_PYRates accounts , the other child entities don't have any data.
Any ideas in how to correct this issue?
    Thanks in advance

Wow, it took me a while to set this reply, I was stuck on Rich Text format, and I did not have a box for the body of the message. Anyway, thanks; however, I keep getting the same results. My rules are quite simple, in the calculate sub routine I only have the population of Beginning Balances for Rollforward accounts, plus these Prior Year and Plan Rate accounts. I have to develop a comparison of YTD sales with YTD last year Sales.
I have developed the YTD formula which was an easy one. How can I develop the YTD prior year.
Let say I select the day 31-March-2013 so I need the YTD Prior year which is the sales till 31-March-2012.

Store the selected date in a presentation variable and replace current_date in the below format:
