How to call a procedure which returns out parameter in form personalization

Dear All,
I have one procedure which is having 2 parameter in and one parameter out .
The question is how to get the parameter out in from personalization in a local or global variable?
Thanks

Yes.
You can use the "forms_ddl" builtin
See the following examples. Make sure you include the single quotes as well as the = sign in the begining.

  • How to call a procedure with SYS_REFCURSOR OUT parameter

    Hi,
    Using Oracle 11g R2.
    I'd like to know if it is possible to display the results of a SYS_REFCURSOR in a query. For example, if I had the following stored procedure
    create or replace procedure testprocedure (result OUT sys_refcursor)
    as
    begin
       open result for
          select 1 from dual
          union all
          select 2 from dual;
    end;
    I'd like to call this procedure similar to the way a query is called and executed. Like this
    select * from testprocedure
    I've seen plenty of examples on the web which show how it is possible to loop through results of a sys_refcursor inside of an anonymous block and display the results using dbms_output.putline, but this isn't the method I am looking for.

    I'd like to know if it is possible to display the results of a SYS_REFCURSOR in a query. For example, if I had the following stored procedure
    No - you can only use schema object types (SQL) in SQL queries and only then if you call a function.
    The function can return a SQL collection type or it can be a PIPELINED function whose return value is a SQL collection type. Either way your query will use the TABLE function and be of the form:
    select * from TABLE(testfunction);
    This is sample code for a PIPELINED function based on the SCOTT.EMP table. The function takes a department number parameter and returns the EMP rows for that department:
    -- type to match emp record
    create or replace type emp_scalar_type as object
      (EMPNO NUMBER(4) ,
       ENAME VARCHAR2(10),
       JOB VARCHAR2(9),
       MGR NUMBER(4),
       HIREDATE DATE,
       SAL NUMBER(7, 2),
       COMM NUMBER(7, 2),
       DEPTNO NUMBER(2)
    -- table of emp records
    create or replace type emp_table_type as table of emp_scalar_type
    -- pipelined function
    create or replace function get_emp( p_deptno in number )
      return emp_table_type
      PIPELINED
      as
       TYPE EmpCurTyp IS REF CURSOR RETURN emp%ROWTYPE;
        emp_cv EmpCurTyp;
        l_rec  emp%rowtype;
      begin
        open emp_cv for select * from emp where deptno = p_deptno;
        loop
          fetch emp_cv into l_rec;
          exit when (emp_cv%notfound);
          pipe row( emp_scalar_type( l_rec.empno, LOWER(l_rec.ename),
              l_rec.job, l_rec.mgr, l_rec.hiredate, l_rec.sal, l_rec.comm, l_rec.deptno ) );
        end loop;
        return;
      end;
    select * from table(get_emp(20))

  • How to test a procedure which returns a recordset from pl/sql

    hello,
    Is it possible to test a procedure which returns a recordset from pl/sql?
    Everything I try results in errors like PLS-00382: expression is of wrong type, when I try to open the result cursor
    or PLS-00221: tc is not a procedure or is undefined.
    I created the following procedure:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE test AS
    TYPE cursorType is REF CURSOR;
    PROCEDURE test_cursor( tc IN OUT cursorType,
    v_err OUT varchar2,
    v_msg OUT varchar2);
    END;
    CREATE OR REPLACE
    PACKAGE BODY test AS
    PROCEDURE test_cursor
    (tc IN OUT cursorType,
    v_err OUT varchar2,
    v_msg OUT varchar2)
    AS
    BEGIN
    open tc for
    SELECT '1' "number" FROM dual
    union
    select '2' "number" from dual;
    v_msg := 'no errors';
    v_err := 0;
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND
    THEN
    v_msg := 'no data found';
    v_err := SQLCODE;
    WHEN OTHERS
    THEN
    v_msg := SQLERRM;
    v_err := SQLCODE;
    END;
    END;
    I try to get the output from pl/sql with something like this:
    DECLARE
    TC PROVGRON.TEST.cursorType;
    V_ERR VARCHAR2(200);
    V_MSG VARCHAR2(200);
    BEGIN
    V_ERR := NULL;
    V_MSG := NULL;
    PROVGRON.TEST.TEST_CURSOR ( TC, V_ERR, V_MSG );
    DBMS_OUTPUT.Put_Line('V_ERR = ' || V_ERR);
    DBMS_OUTPUT.Put_Line('V_MSG = ' || V_MSG);
    -- in tc I was hoping to hava a cursor??
    FOR i IN tc
    LOOP
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE (i.number);
    END LOOP;
    END;
    Without the for loop (or open tc) the pl/sql will output:
    V_ERR = 0
    V_MSG = no errors
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    With anything I try with the cursor I get errors?
    What am I doing wrong?

    Interesting to note is the fact that varchar2 variables as parameters to stored
    procedures (in in/out out) may be "only" 32512 bytes long.
    I've checked this in Java and Perl. 32512 is the last value that works, for any
    bigger it throws:
    Exception in thread "main" java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01460: unimplemented or
    unreasonable conversion requested
    But in PL/SQL as you said 32767

  • Calling Stored Procedure which returns single or multiple value

    Hi All Experts,
    I have written one stored procedure which is returning different
    integer values according to condition.I am calling this
    stored procedure through prepareCall() method then executeUpdate() method ,but it is always returning 1,not my desired value.
    Pl also tell me,if my stored procedure returns more than one value
    then how will i get those values in my java program?
    Pl help by writing some sample code.
    Thanx in Advance.
    Pradipto

    1) Create CallableStatement
    2) For each of returning value you have to call RegisterOutParameter()
    3) For others user setXXX() method depending on type of parameter
    4) call
    5) use vars registered through RegisterOutParameter() - all your values should be there

  • How to use stored procedure which returns result set in OBIEE

    Hi,
    I hav one stored procedure (one parameter) which returns a result set. Can we use this stored procedure in OBIEE? If so, how we hav to use.
    I know we hav the Evaluate function but not sure whether I can use for my SP which returns result set. Is there any other way where I can use my SP?
    Pls help me in solving this.
    Thanks

    Hi Radha,
    If you want to cache the results in the Oracle BI Server, you should check that option. When you run a query the Oracle BI Server will get its results from the cache, based on the persistence time you define. If the cache is expired, the Oracle BI Server will go to the database to get the results.
    If you want to use caching, you should enable caching in the nqsconfig.ini file.

  • How to call a Stored Function with OUT parameter of %rowType from Java

    Hi everyone,
    I'm getting crazy trying to make this work.
    I have a function (not developed by me) in Oracle 10g declared in this way:
    type tab_RLSSP is table of TB_RLSSP_STOSTPRPAR_CL%ROWTYPE index by binary_integer;
    FUNCTION DBF_PERL_LISTA_PRATICHE (
    p_id_va IN NUMBER,
    p_seq_partita IN NUMBER,
    p_trattamento IN CHAR,
    lrec_RLSSP OUT tab_RLSSP ) RETURN NUMBER;
    And here is the code snipplet of my java method:
    sql="{? = call "+SCHEMA+PACKAGE+"."+FUNCTION_LIST+"(?,?,?,?)}";
    cs=connection.prepareCall(sql);
    cs.registerOutParameter(1, OracleTypes.NUMBER);
    cs.setLong(2,idVATitolare);
    cs.setLong(3,seqPartita);
    cs.setString(4,trattamento);// Caso Decesso
    cs.registerOutParameter(5, OracleTypes.OTHER);
    cs.executeQuery();
    result = (ResultSet) cs.getObject(5);
    if (result.next())
    listaPratiche.add(readPraticaPartita(result));
    The result (exception thrown at executeQuery with statement generated as
    SQL : {? = call PEDBA.DBK_PERL_RATEI_SUPPLETIVI.DBF_PERL_LISTA_PRATICHE(?,?,?,?)}:
    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-06550: line 1, column 13:

    ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:

    Changing to :
    sql="{call ? := "+SCHEMA+PACKAGE+"."+FUNCTION_LISTA+"(?,?,?,?)}";
    leading to
    SQL : {call ? := call PEDBA.DBK_PERL_RATEI_SUPPLETIVI.DBF_PERL_LISTA_PRATICHE(?,?,?,?)}
    don't change anything.
    What's wrong? Any suggestion?

    You mean because of this line?
    cs.registerOutParameter(5,OracleTypes.CURSOR);You can either use a cursor or use a function that returns a SQL type instead of the PL/SQL type.
    Here is sample code using a cursor
    CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE SCOTT.local_type IS OBJECT (
        empno   NUMBER(4),
        ename   VARCHAR2(10));
    CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE SCOTT.local_tab_type IS TABLE OF local_type;
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE SCOTT.test_refcursor_pkg
    AS
        TYPE my_ref_cursor IS REF CURSOR;
         -- add more cursors as OUT parameters
         PROCEDURE   test_proc(p_ref_cur_out OUT test_refcursor_pkg.my_ref_cursor);
    END test_refcursor_pkg;
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY SCOTT.test_refcursor_pkg
    AS
         PROCEDURE  test_proc(p_ref_cur_out OUT test_refcursor_pkg.my_ref_cursor)
         AS
            l_recs local_tab_type;
         BEGIN
             -- Get the records to modify individually.
             SELECT local_type(empno, ename) BULK COLLECT INTO l_recs
             FROM EMP;
             -- Perform some complex calculation for each row.
             FOR i IN l_recs.FIRST .. l_recs.LAST
             LOOP
                 DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(l_recs(i).ename);
             END LOOP;
             -- Put the modified records back into the ref cursor for output.
             OPEN p_ref_cur_out FOR
             SELECT * from TABLE(l_recs);
             -- open more ref cursors here before returning
         END test_proc;
    END;
    SET SERVEROUTPUT ON SIZE 1000000
    DECLARE
      l_cursor  test_refcursor_pkg.my_ref_cursor;
      l_ename   emp.ename%TYPE;
      l_empno   emp.empno%TYPE;
    BEGIN
      test_refcursor_pkg.test_proc (l_cursor);
      LOOP
        FETCH l_cursor
        INTO  l_empno, l_ename;
        EXIT WHEN l_cursor%NOTFOUND;
        DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(l_ename || ' | ' || l_empno);
      END LOOP;

  • [perl] How call function/procedure that returns SYS_REFCURSOR type?

    I've got some simple procedure which returns record(s):
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE "GET_SYS_DATE"
    RESULTSET IN OUT SYS_REFCURSOR
    IS
    BEGIN
         OPEN RESULTSET FOR
              SELECT SYSDATE FROM DUAL;
    END;
    In perl i invoke it with somthing like this:
    my $ret;
    my $s= "BEGIN GET_SYS_DATE(:1); END;";
    my $sth = $dbh->prepare($s);
    $sth->bind_param_inout(1, \$ret, 0 { TYPE => XXX}); # tried to use many DBD::SQL_* types (SQL_ROW, SQL_REF, etc.)
    $sth->execute(); #... but without luck
    I always get:
    DBD::ODBC::st execute failed: [Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
    PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'GET_SYS_DATE'
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
    PL/SQL: Statement ignored
    Of course if i use other datatype in SP (e.g. VARCHAR2) and bind it as SQL_VARCHAR it works well... Moreover, if i use DBD::Oracle and bind it as ORA_RSET type it also works.
    Is it possible that ODBC doesn't know SYS_REFCURSOR type? Then, is there any way to call SP and retrieve cursor from perl without using DBD::Oracle?
    Or, if it is possible, then how to retrieve that cursor and data stored within it? Any help?

    Hi,
    I have not one eensy teensy bit of knowledge about PERL, other than how to spell it.
    I do however, know about ref cursors, and ODBC, so maybe this will help.
    ODBC has nothing for REF CURSOR built in. ODBC is made to the lowest common denoninator of databases, and a refcur is an Oracle thing. So, what that means is that you can't BIND anythign to the ref cursor, as there is no appropriate ODBC type to bind.
    Does that mean you can't call a refcur via ODBC? No, it doesnt.
    What happens is that Oracle's ODBC driver kinda "magically" goes out behind the scenes and describes the procedure or pacakge to determine if any of the parameters are ref cursors, and if so automatically sets up the bind for them.
    Here's a complete working example using VB and ADO rather than PERL, but maybe you can port it over and get it working. Note that the proc takes two params, but we only bind one (for the IN number)
    Hope it helps,
    Greg

    now my requirement is,i need send a parameter as letter_id to a procedure or function in pl/sql in oracle,the output should be as follows:
    if we will pass parameter(letter_id) = 103 then it displays as follows:

    the procedure for my requirement is like below.now my problem is how to call this procedure in my report.so that if i will send a parameter as letter_id then it should get my report stated above.
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE letter_text ( p_letter_id letter.letter_id%TYPE , p_letter_contents_out OUT SYS_REFCURSOR )
    IS
    BEGIN
    OPEN p_letter_contents_out
    FOR
    SELECT letter_content
    FROM letter
    WHERE letter_id = p_letter_id
    ORDER BY line_seq;
    END letter_text;
    which you might call with something like
    SQL> var results refcursor
    SQL> exec letter_text(103, :results)

    so, the same out put i need to get it in a report.
    Thanks

    Thanks for ur suggestions.
    i have 2 select statements.1st query is the main query for the report.so i used it at the time of report created with datablock.
    now my 2nd query is
    select letter_content
    from ( select content_seq,
         content || case content_seq
    when 2 then
    ' ' || lead(content) over (partition by letter_id order by content_seq)
    end as letter_content
    from exp_letter_contents
         where letter_id = 103)
    where content_seq <> 3;
    i had taken 2parameters 1 for the main query and 2nd is for the above query(parameter is letter_id).
    now i have to write the above select statement in the report.
    so i had taken a field object in the report and then i had written this code in before report trigger.
    function letter_contentFormatTrigger return boolean is
    begin
    select letter_content
    from ( select content_seq,
                        content ||
                        case content_seq when 2 then
                             ' ' || lead(content) over (partition by letter_id order by content_seq)
                        end as letter_content
              from exp_letter_contents
              where letter_id = 103)
    where content_seq <> 3;
    return (letter_content);
    end;
    when i tried to compile it.i got an error as follows :
    error 103 at line6,column 5
    encountered the symbol "CASE" when expecting one of the following:
    (- + mod null <an identifier>
    <a double-quoted delimited-identifier><a bind variable> avg...etc
    so,where can i write this select statement.
    i am using oracle reports6i

  • Calling Oracle procedure with two OUT parameters

    Hi I am having an Oracle procedure which return ref cursor. I also want to result one more out parameter result. How Can I call the procedure in SQL. Below is the way I am calling my stored procedure with one parameter.
    proc_Test (p_resultset=> My_cursor)
    How can I call the procedure when I have one more OUT parameter. Second parameter returns 0 or 1.
    Thanks in adv

    Yes its possible to use multiple parameter as OUT type in procedure.
    SQL>set serveroutput on size 1000000;
    SQL>CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE myproc(p_cv OUT SYS_REFCURSOR, p_num OUT NUMBER) AS
      2  BEGIN
      3    OPEN p_cv FOR SELECT 'Hello Oracle' sayhello FROM DUAL ;
      4    p_num := 1;

  • Test a procedure which returns a sys_refcursor

    Hi all,
    Oracle 9i
    Got a simple stand alone procedure which has an input param and an output param, the second of which
    is a ref cursor.
    Can anyone tell me how I can go about testing this from within Pl/SQL (Command line)?
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE "LOGMNR"."LM"
    (p_filename in varchar2, p_recordset OUT SYS_REFCURSOR)
    as
    begin
    begin
    dbms_output.put_line('Hello World');
    OPEN p_recordset FOR
    SELECT *
    FROM test_table;
    end;
    end LM;
    Also, and I know this is a huge long-shot. I'm going to be calling this procedure from VB6 (yes I know!), via ADODB, but I'm not
    sure what type to add for the second parameter. Anyone called an Oracle procedure with ADODB which returns a refcursor/result set?
    cmd.Parameters.Append cmd.CreateParameter("p_filename", adVarChar, adParamInput, 255, "c:\test.dat")
    cmd.Parameters.Append cmd.CreateParameter("p_recordset", *???*, adParamOutput, 6000, "")
    Regards
    Dave

    Why don't you just use sqlplus as already suggested
    Re: Test a procedure which returns a sys_refcursor

  • Calling a procedure that returns a cursor inside a procedure

    Hi,
    I have two stored procedures. They both return a cursor as output variables. On the other hand I have another stored procedure that calls these procedures and return their results again an output variable. I know that this seems quite odd to be wanting to do something like this but how can I do that?

    You can make the hack generic. Make it execute any SQL as that schema that creates the ref cursor. E.g.
    // as schema BILLY, open a huge security hole and grant access to USER1
    SQL> create or replace procedure GetTableData( tableName varchar2, refCur out sys_refcursor ) authid definer is
      2          dynamicSQL      varchar2(32767);
      3  begin
      4          dynamicSQL := 'select * from '||tableName;
      5          open refCur for dynamicSQL;
      6  end;
      7  /
    Procedure created.
    SQL>
    SQL>
    SQL> grant execute on GetTableData to USER1;
    Grant succeeded.As USER1, you can now execute SQL (and even PL/SQL) as BILLY:
    SQL> create or replace type TStrings is table of varchar2(4000);
      2  /
    Type created.
    SQL> grant execute on TStrings to BILLY;
    Grant succeeded.
    SQL> --// execute this as the caller (which will be BILLY.GetTableData)
    SQL> create or replace procedure ExecSQL( hackSQL varchar2 ) authid current_user is
      2          pragma autonomous_transaction;
      3  begin
      4          execute immediate hackSQL;
      5          commit;
      6  end;
      7  /
    Procedure created.
    SQL> --// wrap the above into something that BILLY.GetData can execute as a ref cursor
    SQL> --// and return a meaningful message as to how successful the hack was
    SQL> create or replace function PipeLineHack( hackSQL varchar2 ) return TStrings authid current_user pipelined is
      2  begin
      3          ExecSQL(  hackSQL );
      4          pipe row( 'SQL hack successful' );
      5  exception when OTHERS then
      6          pipe row( 'SQL hack faled with '||SQLERRM(SQLCODE) );
      7  end;
      8  /
    Function created.
    SQL>
    SQL> grant execute on PipeLineHack to BILLY;
    Grant succeeded.
    SQL>
    SQL> var c refcursor
    SQL> --// expected used of the GetTableData() interface
    SQL> --// we select from table BILLY.EMP
    SQL> exec BILLY.GetTableData( 'EMP', :c );
