How to call a Visual C++ in Java

Hi All,
I am working to convert my VB project to JSP. I am hanging up on the part that I need to call the dll to return the answers.
The DLL was written in Visual C++, there're many complicated math routines in the DLL. Convert the DLL to java is the last option I will consider. The followings are a sample code of the simplest function declaration and function call to an interface of the dll in VB:
Function declaration:
Public Declare Sub dmstof Lib "I:\dads\radm32.dll" _
(ByVal degs#, ByVal mins#, ByVal secs#, angle#)
Function call:
dmstof DEG, min, sec, LatRad
Anyone have any idea how to do this in Java. Please provide sample(s), I?m fairly new to Java.

My projects are communicating JSP with C#. i had successfully created a C# client bean file for JSP. The whole process is to type something on the server(C# programming) and it would appear in the textbox.

May know how to submit a button autoamtically on onload of page with clicking a welcome alert box. the submit button has managed button too to show a message on console using SOP.
the problem is.
1. before loading the page a javascript comes on which i clicked ok
2. the page gets loaded and the button is there which gets automatically clicked and the managed bean associated with prints a message on console using SOP.

How to call a C program in java PACKAGE

am trying to call a method implemented in C from java.
I followed the instructions of sun.java.com tutorial for the simple example of HelloWorld. It works fine.
BUT, when I try to do the same in a package, I run into a lot of trouble. I did the following :
1. Created HelloWorld.java in a package GUI/ and compiled it

-- compiled and created .so file
5. Set the package directory in Classpath, path and LD_LIBRARY_PATH
6. When it is run java GUI.HelloWorld
I get this error
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: OrionGUI/HelloWorld
Can anyone help me. If you have any links to how to call native methods in package, please let me know. Thanks.

I had to change the name of the method in .h file generated by javah command. On doing
javac -d ../../classes HelloWorld.java
go to the ../../classes directory (where you have the class file) and do
javah HelloWorld
I got a HelloWorld.h file in which I had
JNIEXPORT void JNICALL Java_HelloWorld_display(JNIEnv *, jobject);
I added the package name too:
JNIEXPORT void JNICALL Java_GUI_HelloWorld_display(JNIEnv *, jobject);
The HelloWorldImp.c file should have the same name (ie with package) and be in the same directory(ie ../../classes)
compile and build the shared library to get "libhello.so" file
gcc -c -fPIC -I/usr/lib/j2sdk1.3/include -I/usr/lib/j2sdk1.3/include/linux HelloWorldImp.c
gives .o file
gcc -shared -o libhello.so HelloWorldImp.o
gives .so file
then run java with the command in my first message. It works.

Everywhere i only see they give an example where in they tell to create an DLL. Now how do i will call if an DLL is ready and exists.

You can't call functions in an arbitary DLL form Java. You need to use JNI to produce a 'wrapper' DLL that maps Java methods to the methods in the target DLL. The purpose of the wrapper is to allow type conversion between Java types and C/C++ types. The complexity of this task depends largely on the types used in th target DLL. If the targer DLL uses only primitive types such as char, byte, int, long, string, the translation is simple and the wrapper DLL will be 'thin'. If however, the target DLL passes arrays and objects, or employs callbacks, these more work to do, and the wrapper will be correspondingly 'thicker'.

You can use JNI which will call another C function (which you write) and which then calls your C method.
If the method is of a specific type (like OLE, Corba) then there are packages available which can allow you to access it. They still use JNI underneath, but hide that functionality from you.

BTW you should check for the OS - this stuff is very os and os release dependent.
I have not experimented with this under unix.
But something must interpret that sendMessage.sh file.
Perhaps the hash bang info is used by exec() (did you put a
#!/bin/sh as first line in your .sh file?
