How to cast StyledDocument in to String

Hi there,
I would like to know if it is possible to put a StyledDocument variable in to a String and how I can do this. Casting???

Definitely not by casting. That wouldn't make any sense at all. You could write >your own code that converted your StyledDocument to XML, and serialized that >XML into a String.
But didn't you just have a long thread about StyledDocument? There was a >large amount of useful information there. Why are you throwing it all away and >asking a vague question, instead of following up in the thread where you have >context?You're right that I had a long thread but firstly I thought maybe there was a way to do it differently 'cause I have problems with PostgreSQL putting BLOBS and none of the replies helped in this matter.

    Problem:
    How to cast an Object into a specific type (Integer/String) at runtime, where type is not known at compile time.
    Example:
    public class TestCode {
         public static Object func1()
    Integer i = new Integer(10); //or String str = new String("abc");
    Object temp= i; //or Object temp= str;
    return temp;

              //Performing some stuff
         public static void main(String args[])
         Object obj = func1();
    //cast obj into Integer at run time
         func2(Integer);
    Description:
    In example, func1() will be called first which will return an object. Returned object refer to an Integer object or an String object. Now at run time, I want to cast this object to the class its referring to (Integer or String).
    For e.g., if returned object is referring to Integer then cast that object into Integer and call func2() by passing Integer object.

    There is only one way to have an object of an unknown type at compile time. That is to create the object's class at runtime using a classloader. Typically a URLClassloader.
    Look into
    Class.ForName(String)

    I understand all replies so far, but from my
    understanding, objects are passed by reference No, they're not. Rather, object references are passed by value.
    Object obj = new Object();
    String a = "pass me by reference";
    Object anotherObj = (Object)a; // this explicit cast is not necessary
    String anotherString = (String)anotherObj; // this cast works because the object in question is a String
    There's no passing in that code, so I'm not sure where that even came from. However, that works because it's all legal casting.
    works as I think it should, and does, and futhermore
    String[] cast to Obj[] cast to String[] works also...Because the object you're casting actually is a String[].
    so why not if Obj[] to String[] Because String[] is not a subclass of Object[]. That's just how the language is specified.
    futhermore if they are
    all string...Again, this has no bearing on the type of the array object.
    I saw hot to cast array to String[] and wondered if
    this is real cast or calls the toString method...It's a real cast.
    but most importantly, does this mean if I have a
    vector of Strings and want to get them as an array of
    strings, I have to loop through the Obj[] (or vector)
    and cast each to (String)...just to get them as an
    array of String[]....No, zparticle's code can do that.

  • How can casting to String to InternetAddress

    Hello, I have to send and email and I'm using a InternetAddres to set the Address and the personal. I'm doing something like this:
    mensaje.setFrom(new InternetAddress(from.getAddress(),from.getPersonal()));The problem is that I receive this information in one String, I receive one of these options:
    Name <email>
    <email>
    Name Surname <email>
    How can I do to create a InternetAddress using that.
    InternetAddress from = new InternetAddress (email, Name);
    InternetAddress from = new InternetAddress (email, null);
    InternetAddress from = new InternetAddress (email, Name Surname);
    Javamail have any method to create that or I have to do a manual casting? Taking the String and dividing when I show a <>?
    Thanks!

    Your question is difficult to understand. Are trying to do the same thing as the poster of this other thread?
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5153150&tstart=0
    In any case, you should NEVER do this:   sInitial = new String(sInitial.getBytes("UTF-8"), "UTF-8"); You can't change the encoding of a string, ever. In this case, the resulting string will be exactly the same as the original because both of the encodings are the same. If you use two different encodings, you'll probably end up with garbage.

    operatorClsMyTypeCollection*()
    {returnthis;};

    The last line with "vector<xClsMytype>

  • How to cast in ABAP ?

    Hi,
    I need to cast a data but i don't kow how to do it in ABAP.
    Actually, I have a variable typed QUAN (quantity i guess) and i want to concatenate it in a String variable. That's not possible.
    The solution i've found is to move the Quan variable to a temporary String variable. I think that's a kind of implicit casting.
    Then, including this temporary string variable in the Concatenate instruction is possible.
    My question is :
    Can I directly cast this data instead of using a temporary variable ?
    In Java or VB.NET langauges, we can cast variable like that
    (String)my_variable
    How to do it in ABAP ?
    Thanks

    hi,
    You got to use the temporary variable of char type as shown below.
    data : v_quant type netpr value '1000.00',
             v_char(10).
    move v_qunat to v_char.

  • How to cast an object in JSF?

    I am working on a travel application. A user can have several bookings and a booking can have several components. A component can be either air or hotel. I want to list the user's bookings on the client using JSF datatable.
    <h:dataTable var="component" value="#{booking.components}">
    Now depending upon the class of component I need to present different information.
    My question is how to cast the variable in JSF ?
    Thanks

    You can use the String value of Object#getClass()#getName() to lookup the classname and evaluate it in the 'rendered' attribute.
    Basic example:
    package mypackage;
    public class Animal {}
    package mypackage;
    public class Cat extends Animal {}
    package mypackage;
    public class Dog extends Animal {}
    package mypackage;
    public class Fish extends Animal {}MyBeanpublic List<Animal> getList() {
        List<Animal> animals = new ArrayList<Animal>();
        animals.add(new Dog());
        animals.add(new Cat());
        animals.add(new Fish());
        return animals;
    }JSF<h:dataTable value="#{myBean.list}" var="item">
        <h:column>
            <h:outputText value="It's a Cat" rendered="#{item.class.name == 'mypackage.Cat'}" />
            <h:outputText value="It's a Dog" rendered="#{item.class.name == 'mypackage.Dog'}" />
            <h:outputText value="It's a Fish" rendered="#{item.class.name == 'mypackage.Fish'}" />
        </h:column>
    </h:dataTable>As far there is no way to cast objects in JSF.
    Edit
    If you find it useful, move the classname request to the superclass:
    public class Animal {
        public String getType() {
            String className = getClass().getName();
            return className.substring(className.lastIndexOf('.') + 1);
    }Which makes life easier without struggling with package names:<h:outputText value="It's a Cat" rendered="#{item.type == 'Cat'}" />
    <h:outputText value="It's a Dog" rendered="#{item.type == 'Dog'}" />
    <h:outputText value="It's a Fish" rendered="#{item.type == 'Fish'}" />Message was edited by:

    Hello Chris.
    First of all I'd like to thank you for answer. :)
    1)I can't use native query.
    2)What do you mean?
    3)I can't upgrade.
    I have something like this(it's only simple example, I have more complex query):
    getManager().createQuery("SELECT obj FROM " + EntityClass.class.getSimpleName() + " obj "
                        + " WHERE '14' = obj.number").getResultList();
    r.number is Number in Oracle and Long in entity class.
    I want to cast obj.number to String.
    Here: http://docs.jboss.org/hibernate/core/3.3/reference/en/html/queryhql.html#queryhql-expressions expressions like cast is valid.
    So, where's the problem? My toplink version is too old?
    Thanks a lot

  • How do I create a connection string to sql server?

    Hi All,
       I am currently connecting to a SQL Server via ODBC DSN connection. I am wondering how do I create a connection string directly to a sql server without a DSN connection?
    Thank you in advance.

    If you have SQL Server or client installed in your machine you can directly connect to SQL server using native connection. When you create new report you can see the option create new connection, here you can see SQL Server. Expand it and enter the connection details where you will be directly connected to SQL Server without ODBC connection.

    How Can I replace newScale Text Strings with Custom Values?
    How can I replace newScale text strings with custom values?
    All  newScale text is customizable. Follow the procedure below to change the  value of any text string that appears in RequestCenter online pages.
    Procedure
    1. Find out the String ID of the text string you would like to overwrite by turning on the String ID display:
    a) Navigate to the RequestCenter.ear/config directory.
    b) Open the newscale.properties file and add the following name-value pair at the end of the file:res.format=2
    c) Save the file.
    d) Repeat steps b and c for the RmiConfig.prop and RequestCenter.prop files.
    e) Stop and restart the RequestCenter service.
    f) Log  in to RequestCenter and browse to the page that has the text you want  to overwrite. In front of the text you will now see the String ID.
    g) Note down the String ID's you want to change.
    2. Navigate to the directory: /RequestCenter.ear/RequestCenter.war/WEB-INF/classes/com/newscale/bfw.
    3. Create the following sub-directory: res/resources
    4. Create the following empty text files in the directory you just created:
    RequestCenter_0.properties
    RequestCenter_1.properties
    RequestCenter_2.properties
    RequestCenter_3.properties
    RequestCenter_4.properties
    RequestCenter_5.properties
    RequestCenter_6.properties
    RequestCenter_7.properties
    5. Add the custom text strings to the appropriate  RequestCenter_<Number>.properties file in the following manner  (name-value pair) StringID=YourCustomTextString
    Example: The StringID for "Available Work" in ServiceManager is 699.
    If you wanted to change "Available Work" to "General Inbox", you  would add the following line to the RequestCenter_0.properties file
         699=General Inbox
    Strings are divided into the following files, based on their numeric ID:
    Strings are divided into the following files, based on their numeric ID:

    6000 to 6999 -> RequestCenter_6.properties
    7000 to 7999 -> RequestCenter_7.properties
    6. Turn off the String ID display by removing (or commenting out) the line "res.format=2" from the newscale.properties, RequestCenter.prop and RmiConfig.prop files
    7. Restart RequestCenter.
    Your customized text should be displayed.

    I've recently come across this information and it was very helpful in changing some of the inline text.
    However, one place that seemed out of reach with this method was the three main buttons on an "Order" page.  Specifically the "Add & Review Order" button was confusing some of our users.
    Through the use of JavaScript we were able to modify the label of this button.  We placed JS in the footer.html file that changes the value of the butt

  • How to read and write a string into a txt.file

    Hi, I am now using BEA Workshop for Weblogic Platform version10. I am using J2EE is my programming language. The problem I encounter is as the above title; how to read and write a string into a txt.file with a specific root directory? Do you have any sample codes to reference?
    I hope someone can answer my question as soon as possible
    Thank you very much.

    Accessing the file system directly from a web app is a bad idea for several reasons. See http://weblogs.java.net/blog/simongbrown/archive/2003/10/file_access_in.html for a great discussion of the topic.
    On Weblogic there seems to be two ways to access files. First, use a File T3 connector from the console. Second, use java.net.URL with the file: protocol. The T3File object has been deprecated and suggests:
    Deprecated in WebLogic Server 6.1. Use java.net.URL.openConnection() instead.
