How to change property of control inside a cluster?

Hello,
1)
I have cluster with dozen controls (booleans and slides).
I want to change the slides control scale property in runtime.
Im doing UnbundleByName to the cluster to pick the right slide, but how i continue from here? how i access to that slide property?
2)
The main problem is that i have vi with lot of controls, and i want to find a way to save the control values to file, so i decide to insert all those controls to cluster, and to use datalog...Is there any other elegant way?
Tnx,
HaD

Hi HaD,
controls usually have properties for Caption and Label. You can check one or both for the name of your control...
The array of control references should contain the references in the tabbing order, but it's always a good idea to cross-check that you use thoe correct reference

  • How to Programmatically Set the limit (max, min input) of a control inside a cluster?

    I want to programmatically set the limit (max, min input) of a control inside a cluster. (see attached VI).
    The max, min value will be read from a file. The input of the control must be within the range defined by the max and min value.
    Can anyone tell me how to do it?
    Thanks a lot for your kind help.

    Accessing the properties of a cluster (or array) is not a trivial operation until you have done it once. It's a two step (at least) process : first, ask for a reference (array of...) to the objects contained in the cluster, then tell LV what kind of object you are adressing.

  • How can I make a control inside a loop in a subVI change value when the calling VI's control changes?

    Hi.
    I think this is a pretty basic LV question, but I have not been able to find a good solution.
    I am attaching VIs that show the problem I am having, but obviously, the real application is a lot complicated, which forces me to try to do it this way.
    The issue is: I have a subVI with a Boolean control inside a loop.  When the control is true I want some action to take place.  When the subVI is run on its own, it works fine, acting properly when I set the boolean control to true via the LV FPGA interface from the host.  However, when I use it as a subVI, in which the top-level VI calls several instances of the subVI, I have the Boolean controls in the top level VI.  What is happening is that the false Boolean value with which the top-level VI starts is passed into the subVIs, and not updated, even though the control is inside the loop.
    Can any one suggest a good solution?
    Thanks,

    Hi.
    I know the example I posted might seem silly, but it was just to illustrate the problem I am having.  In reality this is the application:
    I have some LV FPGA code which uses a few FPGA IO to implement a serial link to communicate with a device.  Most of the time we are getting data from the device, so the serial link is used to send a read command, read in the data and put it into a FIFO.  However, I also wanted the VI to support sending data to the device, so I added an array control to put the data you want to send, and a boolean control to tell it you want to send it.
    Since sending and receiving data are done using the same FPGA IO, they cannot be independent operations, because they would garble each other. Therefore, in the subVI I have a loop in which I first read data if there is any to read, then check the boolean write control to see if there is data to write.
    As I mentioned, this works perfectly for talking to a single device.  However, we run into the issue of this topic when trying to replicate this for several devices.
    One easy solution is to not have the loop in the subVI, and have it in the calling VI (I am favoring this simple solution right now).  The only reason why I have not done this yet, is that the subVI has more than one loop, so I am going to have to create several subVIs.  I just posted to see if there was an even simpler solution...
    There have been some other possibly good solutions proposed here, though I am not sure if they work in LV FPGA.
    Thanks for all your responses.

  • Property node of a control inside of cluster inside an array

    I've created a control that has a cluster made of a Boolean, a String and a Numeric.  Then in my front panel I've created an array of these custom controls.  I would like to have access to the property of the controls inside of the cluster within the array.  ie, I want to change the color of the Boolean or make it blink, or "disable and gray" the text box.  I think I'm on the right track, or maybe I'm on the wrong path.  I've attached and example VI (testtray.vi) and the control that I'm using (UUT_Display.ctl).  Please excuse the use of a Flat Sequence Structure, I know it's poor programming practices, but I just wanted to throw something together.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    I have enclosed a quick and dirty example of replicating the blinking in an array of clusters.  You can turn it on and off, but as we have noted, only for all of the elements.  If you were only showing one element of the array you could change properties based on which element was displayed.  You probably want to see them all.  In that case, you could use a cluster of clusters.  This may be a pain, but I would suggest that you use an array of clusters to do your manipulations.  Use Array->Cluster to convert to a cluster for display purposes.  Then you can manipulate the properties of the cluster.
    My guess is easier said than done, good luck.

    Those navbar links are generated by javascript and are not user editable. You can create your own navbar using a Text Based Navbar and then have complete control over font (stick with the Web Safe Fonts), color, size and rollover colors.
    Cyclosaurus has posted an HTML snippet that can change the font style of the navbar of each page that the snippet is applied to. You can find it here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8596966#8596966. This page tells how tol change the navbar test to all caps: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8523772#8523772.
    And the following code, again courtesy of Cyclosaurus will change the rollover color of the navbar on any page the snippet is added to:

  • Event structure to detect value change of a control within a cluster in an array

    I have 1D array that contains a cluster. The cluster contains a numeric and a boolean control.
    If the user starts to edit the numeric control value i would like to call one subVI, and if the boolean control value is changed, call a different subVI.
    The array control on the front panel allows the user to edit a number of the array elements.
    I would like to use an event structure to detect a value change in the cluster. When editing the Events, in the Event Sources panel i get the option to select only the array, not the cluster within the array or the controls within the cluster. Can the Event structure be opened up to show controls within clusters and arrays?
    The solution i am using is to detect a mouse up event on the array and then use property nodes to  determine if the key focus is on the numeric, and  a case structure to determine which subVI to call. This works, but is there a better (simpler) way?
    Thanks, Blue.

    Thanks for the responses guys.
    The tricky bit was that i wanted the numeric control values to flag they were going to be edited, so i could call a subVI, before their values were changed by the user. This is done by using the key focus property node, - i need to detect changes on the fly rather than post the event.  Probably didn't make this clear enough in my original post.
    The array is of variable size depending on if the user decides to insert or delete elements. The user also has the option to click and edit the array without having to do to much scrolling through the array index, as the FP shows several elements at a time. The Event Structure does a good job of automatically determining which element in the array is being edited, and returning those values to the property nodes. Turned out simpler than i thought it might be at one point!
    Cheers, Blue.

    10.1.1.24     itellin2_ipmp0_test1
    I want to change the IP's of this node and the opposite node.
    How to do this with no problem in starting the cluster.

    I'm not quite sure what you meant by "with no problem in starting the cluster.", I assume you mean "without rebooting the cluster"?
    I'm also not clear what the difference is between the itellin1 and itellin1-sc names and addresses are. I assume the -sc is a system controller? If so, it's usually best practice to have this on a separate subnet, rather than on the public network. This is purely for security reasons.
    First and foremost, I would do this during a planned maintenance period (obviously) and give yourself time to reboot if things going wrong. To change the IP addresses on the cluster nodes you will need a service outage. First, you will need to stop any services that use isccwork and ismswork. Then you can change the IP addresses of the nodes using ifconfig, you'll need to do this from the console rather than a telnet session. Then you can change the IP addresses of the services and then you can bring the services back online.
    This should work, but I haven't actually tried this (recently).

  • How to change property file contents during run time?

    Hi everyone. First post so go easy on me please.
    I have a couple of properties that I want to read from a from a file. To achieve this I simply use:
    ResourceBundle.getBundle("my.package.MyItems").getString("MyProperty");
    This works like a wonder. The problem is, i want to change the property "MyProperty" during runtime. I've found the properties file (MyItems.properties) inside weblogic, but if a change its contents it does not reflect in the application.
    I can come up with a couple of justifications:
    * I'm not looking in the right folder/changing the wrong file in the server;
    * Weblogic caches the properties file, meaning that I have to redeploy the project (defeating the purpose of actually having a properties file).
    Can anyone help with this one?
    [EDIT] Forgot important info:
    * JDeveloper 11.1.1.4
    * Weblogic 11.3 (not 100% sure)
    * Both JDev and WebLogic running on Windows 7 64 bits
    Thank you in advance!

    JDeveloper 11.1.1.4, not 3

    I tried it all.
    Just an explanation of my context.
    I have 1 application with 2 projects in it. First project is called "CommonUI_ViewController" and the second one "FO_ViewController".
    The properties file I'm trying to change is located inside "CommonUI_ViewController", in package "PropertiesConfig" and the file is called "PhaseListener.properties".
    "FO_ViewController" is dependent on "CommonUI_ViewController". When I run "FO_ViewController" the integrated weblogic server log shows this (among other things):
    [10:25:55 AM] Wrote Web Application Module to D:\JDeveloper\dump\system11.1.1.4.37.59.23\o.j2ee\drs\SPV_BPM\FO_ViewControllerWebApp.war

    Note: both lines above point to folders. "FO_ViewControllerWebApp.war" and "CommonUI_ViewControllerWebApp.war" are NOT war files, but folders that have that name.
    I tried changing the properties file in the following locations:
    * D:\JDeveloper\dump\system11.1.1.4.37.59.23\o.j2ee\drs\SPV_BPM\FO_ViewControllerWebApp.war\WEB-INF\lib\adflibSPVCommonUI.jar > PropertiesConfig\PhaseListener.properties;
    * D:\JDeveloper\dump\system11.1.1.4.37.59.23\o.j2ee\drs\SPV_BPM\CommonUI_ViewControllerWebApp.war\WEB-INF\lib\adflibSPVCommonUI.jar > PropertiesConfig\PhaseListener.properties;
    * D:\JDeveloper\dump\system11.1.1.4.37.59.23\o.j2ee\drs\SPV_BPM\CommonUI_ViewControllerWebApp.war\WEB-INF\classes\PropertiesConfig\PhaseListener.properties (no need to open any jar/war to get to this one).
    I changed all these files with different values but no change was shown in the application (using the method in the previous post).
    I believe that I'm still doing something wrong :/
    Thank you for your help so far vinod_t_krishnan!

  • How to Access Item Names Property of ListBox inside of Cluster?

    In LabVIEW 2010 I have a Cluster of Controls on the Front Panel. In that Cluster I have a ListBox. How do I access the Item Names Property of the ListBox in my Block Diagram.
    From the Cluster, I can get the ListBox, but that returns an I32 value, probably the index of the selected Item.
    In the Block Diagram, how can I get the Item Name Property of the ListBox from a Reference to the Cluster?
    THANKS.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    by using the "controls" array of your cluster, you can access the individual elements. You have then to convert the reference to a "more specific class" using a reference to an arbitrary listbox (or a constant reference of the required type), then you can access all properties of your listbox.

    The datatype of a chart or graph is determined by the last thing you wired to it.  By default, they are simple doubles or arrays of doubles.  My guess is that you first wired a waveform with an integer data type to the graph.  It should switch automatically to a double waveform graph if you wire a waveform which contains double data to it.  If it does not, that is probably a bug.  If you have a VI in this state, please post it and I will report it to R&D.

  • How do I manipulate control properties inside a cluster?

    One way I've tried is to put the controls inside a cluster on the front panel.  This works, but the problem is...on my front panel I want to place boolean's near these sliders to perform some other functions.  When I place a cluster of controls over another cluster of controls, I have some issues with "bring to front".  Take a look at the "Control Try 3.vi" attached...
    Another way I've tried is to modify each control reference individually.  This works, but will make the programming very ugly for future maintenance.  Take a look at the "Control Try 2.vi" attached...
    Then I tried to bundle all of the control references, and follow the same logic as the "Control Try 3.vi" logic.  This changes the reference properties within the cluster, but doesn't change the actual control properties.  Refer to "Control Try.vi".  Is there a way to break this down farther, so that I can change the actual control properties?  I've tried to go to more specific classes, but this doesn't work.  I would really like to use this version if at all possible.  Can someone give me some advice?

    Hi Brian and nathand -
    I can understand the confusion.  Very hard to explain, but I was having bring to front issues with the clusters before, placing overtop of one another.  In other words, I wasn't able to control one of the clusters when the vi was running.  I don't seem to have the issue now, so I'm going to stick with the "Control Try 3" approach like nathand suggested.  Seems like the bring to front issue must have went away after I installed LabView 8.5.
    I still am curious though, on how to read the direct values from the cluster, like Brian suggested.  Brian, if you have time, could you show me an example?  I think that this would come in handy in the future.

  • Change properties of controls in an array of clusters

    Hello,
    my latest problem:
    i display larga amount of data using arrays of clusters.
    the user has to be able to inserst clusters in between, therefore the array solution seems perfect.
    However, for each cluster, once a sub-control is defined, i would like some other sub-controls to either become invisible, visible, change ring values...etc.
    i could not find any way to do it whatsoever. anybody has an idea?
    ... And here's where I keep assorted lengths of wires...

    Hey good work!
    I sounds like you are on the right track, so here are a couple more things to throw into the mix. First, remember that given a reference to a "top-level" cluster you can extract references to all the controls inside it on the fly. For example, you take a cluster reference, it has a property called "Controls" this is an array of of references to all the controls inside that cluster. If each of those references is itself a cluster, you can in turn get references to all the controls inside them. Hence you don't really need references to each individual control on the front panel. In fact, all you have to do is figure out how to update one of the inner clusters and then put that code inside a loop so it executes once for each reference in the top-level cluster's Controls property array.
    Second, think about how you can generalize the operation such that the you can turn them into subVIs that you can use no matter what the structure of the clusters might be... The information is all there in the control properties.
    Finaly, yes I can post an example. I'll put one together this evening and try to get it up online.
