How to connect Applet to JDBC driver (urgent !!!)
Hi,
I had problems getting the applet connected to a database in the server using JDBC. When I run the applet in appletviewer I got the error msg :
"Exception occurred during event dispatching:
java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.lang.RuntimePermission
accessClassInPackage.sun.jdbc.odbc "
.....this error refers to the line in my source code:
Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
Please help , thank you!

How to delete a registered jdbc driver
I configured a third party jdbc driver but it's wrong. I tried to remove it but I can't find any way to do so. can any body tell me how to remove a defined jdbc driver(not remove a connection.) thanks.
Registered third-party JDBC drivers can be deleted or edited by opening the 'Preferences' dialog (select the 'Preferences' menu item from the 'Tools' menu) and selecting the 'Database Connections' item on the left-hand tree. The resulting panel has a list of the registered drivers; select the one you wish to delete and click the 'Delete' button.

How can I find the JDBC Driver version
Hi,
How can I find the JDBC Driver version installed on my Sun Solaris machine which
has Weblogic Server 7.0 installed on it. Is there some kind of tool/command to
do so or does Weblogic console say something about it
Thanks

Parikshit KhannaThere is a jdbc DatabaseMetaData call getDriverVersion().
The best thing to do is to download Oracle's latest appropriate
driver from their site, and edit the start-weblogic script to
make sure the downloaded driver is ahead of any weblogic stuff in
the server's classpath. We do ship a driver, but Oracle usually
has a newer better one very soon after that...

How to connect to oracle jdbc?
How to connect to oracle database if jdbc thin driver is used? Any example ?
I saw this in a tutorial but I can't get what are inside the parenthesis.
OracleConnection connect = (OracleConnection)DriverManager.getConnection(" ", , );
Anyone can help?Thx!I still can't get it.
It said:
# Thin Driver, a 100% Java driver for client-side use without an Oracle installation, particularly with applets. The Thin driver type is thin. To connect user scott with password tiger to a database with SID (system identifier) orcl through port 1521 of host myhost, using the Thin driver, you would write :
Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection
("jdbc:oracle:thin:@myhost:1521:orcl", "scott", "tiger");
I don't even know my SID , port & host. How to get them? -

How do I install the jdbc driver for sql server 2005, in sql developer 4.0 ?
Hallo together
I need access to tables in a MS SQL Server 2005 database.
One possibility is the JDBC driver.
How do i install this driver ?
Thank you very much for your postings.Hi,
This is from the documentation -
Database: Third Party JDBC Drivers
The Third Party JDBC Drivers pane specifies drivers to be used for connections to third-party (non-Oracle) databases, such as IBM DB2, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, or Sybase Adaptive Server. (You do not need to add a driver for connections to Microsoft Access databases.) To add a driver, click Add Entry and select the path for the driver:
For Microsoft SQL Server or Sybase Adaptive Server: jtds-1.2.jar, which is included in the jtds-1.2-dist.zip download
To find a specific third-party JDBC driver, see the appropriate website (for example, http://www.mysql.com for the MySQL Connector/J JDBC driver for MySQL, http://jtds.sourceforge.net/ for the jTDS driver for Microsoft SQL Server and Sybase Adaptive Server, or search at http://www.teradata.com/ for the JDBC driver for Teradata). For MySQL, use the MySQL 5.0 driver, not 5.1 or later, with SQL Developer release 1.5.
You must specify a third-party JDBC driver or install a driver using the Check for Updates feature before you can create a database connection to a third-party database of that associated type. (See the tabs for creating connections to third-party databases in the Create/Edit/Select Database Connection dialog box.)
Alternative:
As an alternative to using this preference, you can click Help, then Check for Updates to install the JTDS JDBC Driver for Microsoft SQL Server and the MySQL JDBE Driver as extensions.

How to connect the database (JDBC) using service name rather than SID
How should we make the connection to the database using service name. Initially, we are using the SID to make the database connection, with following setting in the data-source.xml in OC4J using ABCDB as the SID.
<data-sources>
<data-source
class="com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource"
name="jdbc/ABCDB"
location="jdbc/ABCDB"
pooled-location="jdbc/OracleDSPooled"
xa-location="jdbc/xa/OracleDSXA"
connection-driver="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"
username="ABC"
password="ABC"
url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@191.1.4.126:1521:ABCDB"
/>
</data-sources>
It work, but now we need to make the connection using this service name ABCSERVICE, but it doesn't work in the OC4J (JDBC). May I know how should we handle this connection?
Thanks and Regards,
PangFinally, I got the solution to make the database connection using service name, with putting the tnsname setting in URL portion.
url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@(description=(address=(host=191.1.4.126)(protocol=tcp)(port=1521))(connect_data=(SERVICE_NAME = ABCSERVICE)))"
And now, it is working fine.

The above link is a comprehensive "How to get set up and on my way" that I made for someone else learning Oracle/jdbc. Kind of a self-help resource page. I would start from the beginning and download the newest drivers, then set up your environment,...etc.
hope this helped,

THIS IS V V V urgent..plsHi buddies..thank u so much for the suggestions.
Actually the DBA hadnt given the rights to set my classpath. thats the reason for the syntax error at the command promt when i sd set classpath. Then Mine is java 1.2 anyways i added the foelder that contains both 12 & 111.zip.
just have a doubt:
thomas, in the below whats the -cp for?
java -cp classes111.zip;myprogram.jar <mainclass>
is the command for setting tha classpath??? cos i usually do: set classpath=.;<other dir>
i think the . is to say append to already existing files. pls anyone correct me if am wrong. And whats the diff bet. that and
set classpath=%classpath%;<other dir> -
How do I known Which JDBC Driver Type in ConnectionPool?
Usually, we have to specify the JDBC driver type 1, 2, 3, 4 in our programs as
"COM.ibm.db2.jdbc.app.DB2Driver" or "COM.ibm.db2.jdbc.net.DB2Driver"
However, when we use connection pool, we just use the Data Source class file instead e.g. "COM.ibm.db2.jdbc.DB2ConnectionPoolDataSource" or "COM.ibm.db2.jdbc.DB2XADataSource". No program need to specify the driver.
Why is it like that? How do I know which driver type is using in the connection pool?Yes, I have the same problem in a BEA environment. Which is the driver for two phase commit?
XADatasource or ConnectionPoolDataSource?
Do I have to provide the implementation for the ConnectionPoolDataSource? -
How to connect to a hard drive on a internet box (afp ?)
hello everyone
I have a problem since I am on Lion with my internet box. I pluged a hard drive on it. On my others computers (on Windows, icluding my mac with bootcamp)
The Lion is unable to connect the HD. I can see it on my finder (but not everytime), but it can't connect with it.
I thaught I found the solution here (in french):
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4700?viewlocale=fr_FR
But it didn't work!
I think my probleme is a the step 3 where I have to make a AFP connection. What is it exactly?
Is it the right solution?
Thanks for help.That would depend on how your internet box shares out the hard drive. If it doesn't support AFP, then using AFP to connect to it won't work at all. If it does support afp, then go to the Finder and select Connect to Server from the Go menu. For the address, use afp://ip.address.of.router.
You Also might want to check your router help files for how to connect to shared drives.
Apple had to drop Samba, the old SMB/CIFS implementation of Windows File sharing. They wrote their own implementation, but it might not be completely compatible with how your router is sharing out the hard drive. -
Can't connect using OCI JDBC driver in OC4J 10.1.3.3 standalone
Hi all,
I've recently upgraded my JDev from 10.1.3.2 to 10.1.3.3 and now I'm unable to establish any OCI connections with my local Oracle 10.1.0.4 database. Not even through a connection pool. The strangest thing is that when I test an OCI connection running from JDeveloper it works fine and the JDBC jars and the oci client are exactly the same.
The error is always the same when I execute a test on a connection pool using the OCI driver:
WARNING J2EE DS-00001 Exception occurred testing connection. Exception: java.sql.SQLException: Closed Connection.
If I just change the driver to the THIN one, the same test works. If I take the same URL from the OCI test and use it in a test class and run it inside JDeveloper, it works also.
I've even downloaded the instant client 10.1.0.5 (which happens to be exactly the same version of the JDBC driver that comes with JDev 10.1.3.3) and tried to use it with no success.
THIN connections are working just fine. The problem happens only when I try to connect via OCI and this problem was not happening in version 10.1.3.2.
Any help?I found the cause of this problem. It turns out that you must be very careful with the environment variable ORACLE_HOME. On Windows, normally, we don't even set this variable because most applications are able to get it from the system's registry.
Well, it happened that I've edited the script start_oc4j.bat and, for organization reasons, I set the ORACLE_HOME variable with my JDeveloper's home directory (which is the same as my OC4J standalone's). By doing that, I kind of confused the OCI client. Once I removed the "set ORACLE_HOME=C:\JDev" line from the script, everything worked just fine again.
So, always remember: avoid setting environment variable ORACLE_HOME when using Windows and, if you must set it, be sure to do it right.
