How to connect to MS SQL 2000

Hi,
We have a MS sql server 2000 machine.
I need to execute a select query on one particular db table of that server and retrieve data.
I need to do this operation from xp mahine and both machines are in same domain.
I am given access to that particular db of that server for my ID.
Can I access that ms sql database by writing ordinary jsp program by giving servername and username?
Or do I need to install some client tool to execute the query.
Please give me suggestion how to do that?
Thanks in Advance.

    You asked this question two weeks ago. Have you done nothing in all that time?
    You don't need JBuilder to develop Java. A newbie would be better off just using a text editor and compiling and running on the command line. JBuilder is just one more thing you don't understand.
    Have you ever done JDBC before? If not, read this tutorial:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/jdbc/
    You deserve to flunk that course if all you can manage in two weeks is to ask the same lame question again. - MOD

  • How to connect to a Sql server from Oracle using db link

    Hi All,
    Does anybody have any idea about how to connect to a sql server from oracle database using db link to syncronize the data? I need to pull the data from Sql server table to Oracle tables and relay messages back to the sql server.
    Thank you,
    Praveen.

    we have 2 products - DG4MSQL and DG4ODBC.
    DG4ODBC is for free and requires a 3rd party ODBC driver and it can connect to any 3rd party database as long as you use a suitable ODBC driver
    DG4MSQL is more powerfull as it is designed for MS SQL Server databases and it supports many functions it can directly map to SQL Server equivalents - it can also call remote procedures or participtae in distributed transactions. Please be aware DG4MSQL requires a license - it is not for free.
    Check out Metalink and you'll find notes how to configure both products.

  • How to handle EXTENDED Views  SQL 2000 to Oracle Migration

    Hi All,
    I am in the process of migrating SQL server 2000 database to Orcle databse. I would like to know how to handle the views created in SQL server with Extended clause.
    See below for example for SQL 2000 view.
    create view "Order Details Extended" AS
    SELECT "Order Details".OrderID, "Order Details".ProductID, Products.ProductName,
         "Order Details".UnitPrice, "Order Details".Quantity, "Order Details".Discount,
         (CONVERT(money,("Order Details".UnitPrice*Quantity*(1-Discount)/100))*100) AS ExtendedPrice
    FROM Products INNER JOIN "Order Details" ON Products.ProductID = "Order Details".ProductID
    Thanks in advance for your reply.

    Ramesh
    The Workbench has a problem with spaces in identifiers which will be fixed in a later release.
    Apart from that large drawback the view should work ok. [The parser handles convert and aliases]

  • How to connect to Azure SQL database remotely (SharePoint 2013 BI)

    Hi,
    I am new to using Azure VM's and I am looking for advice. I have created and can connect to an Azure VM with a SQL Server 2012 installed on it (includes SSAS and SSRS). I connect to the VM using Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection.
    The problem I am having is connecting to the Azure database from a SharePoint BI site. Are there any good videos or websites that demonstrate how to setup an Azure VM so a user can access a database remotely.
    I hope you can help.
    ATaylor

    Hello,
    To connect to the SQL Server Database from another computer, you must know the Domain Name System (DNS) name of the Azure virtual machine. For example: DNSName,portnumber such as SQLVM.cloudapp.net,57500.
    (Note: The port number is the public endpoint port which you can configure in the management portal for TCP communication with SQL Server on Azure VM.)
    As for datasource credentials, you can use a SQL Server authentication login: create a SQL Server login with password on the SQL Server instance.

  • How to connect to ms sql server analysis server

    I am interested to learn how to use the sql server olap technology
    --can any one help?
    and also i need how to connect to the analysis server and get data from the cubes.
    is there a demo available...possibly a demo application as well?
    or site that shows or uses OLAP technology using java.
    thanx in advance
    ashok

    I was thinking about how to achieve that. But I have not found any opensource JDBC driver or package that provides the feature you are looking for.
    However there is still a change of building some kind of bridge through web services. You could implement a web service with the .NET framework, exposing whichever you need of MS Analysis service to a Java WS client.
    Good luck

  • How to connect to MS SQL server using JSP?

    Hi, i am new to JSP so i would like to know what is the code to create a connection to MS SQL server.
    I am using jakarta-tomcat 4 as my server.
    sorry for any inconvenient....
    pls help me....

    This works to start off with but there are more sophisticated/ different ways of doing things,for instance it's best not to access the db via your jsp, rather do this logic in JavaBeans, Servlets or use Struts.Therefore, it's best that you consult with others and find out which is best way to go about creating your web apps.
    Here's some code:
    In my jsp's I access the bean below , instantiate a statement object and go on from there:
    *SOME of the code in the JSP's.
    //create bean instance
    <jsp:useBean id='dbConn' class='projectsevenhouses.DatabaseConnectionBean ' scope='session' />
    //instantiate statement
    Statement st = dbConn.getConnection().createStatement();
    * JavaBean
    package projectsevenhouses;
    public class DatabaseConnectionBean implements Serializable {
    private Connection conn;
    private Statement st;
    private String dbURL = "jdbc:odbc:datasource";
    private static String driver = "sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver";
    /** Creates a new instance of DatabaseConnectionBean */
    public DatabaseConnectionBean() {
    makeConnection();
    public void setDatabaseName(String dbName) {
    dbURL = dbName;
    private void makeConnection() {
    try {
    Class.forName(driver);
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection(dbURL,"sa","");
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    System.out.println("SQL Cause ->" + e.toString());
    } catch (ClassNotFoundException cnf) {
    System.out.println("Class Not Found:" + cnf);
    public Connection getConnection() {
    if (conn == null) {
    makeConnection();
    return conn;
    public void setCloseConnection(boolean close) {
    if (close) {
    try {
    conn.close();
    } catch (Exception e) {
    conn = null;
    Hope it gives u an idea...

  • How to connect to remote sql server database?

    Hallo,
    I am a new member, so please excuse me if my questions are dummy.
    I am using CR2008 SP2 to make reports from sql server 2005 databases.
    Localy there is no connection problem and everything works perfect.
    I would like to establish a connection with a remote sql server 2005,
    but i am not familiar with remote data retriving. which driver should i use? static ip? vpn? server ports?
    Any answer will be really appreciated

    Hello,
    This is more a question for Microsoft to see what and how they support remote connections to databases. As long as you have the connection made CR will not have any problems. You may find it is slow so optimizing your queries is highly recommended. Passing a million records through your web connector is going to take time.....
    I've personally used a VPN connection and then set the ODBC or OLE DB connection info to my test server here at work and it worked fine. But they were small data sets.
    Thank you

    add the jar for oracle jdbc to the libraries.
    if you are using any IDE then just change the project properties adding the jar file.

  • Unable to Connect to SQL 2000 Instance from Windows Server 2012 environment

    We have a windows server (TEST) 2012 environment , where our test SQL Server 2012 instance is hosted.
    We have a different (DEV) Server (windows 2000)  where a SQL Server 2000 instance is present.
    When I RDP to our Windows Server 2012 box, I cannot connect to the SQL 2000 server instance from SQL Management Studio. (whereas I can connect to
    the same server from my local machine which has windows 7 and SQL 2012 installed).
    This is the error i see -
    "A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name
    is no longer available.) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)"
    When run from SQL Agent Service from TEST (A Job which tries to connect to that SQL 2000 instance to read some data using SSIS) , we get the following
    error -
    An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server"  Hresult: 0x80004005  Description: "[DBNETLIB][ConnectionRead
    (recv()).]General network error. Check your network documentation.".
    The same SSIS package runs successfully from my local machine.
    Please, could someone advice how to resolve this situation?

    Thanks Olaf.
    Its just that we have legacy systems here in our company, who, for some reason haven't upgraded their older infrastructure, whereas they have set up new Windows 2012/SQL 2012 environments for the newer sql instances where they want to transition to !
    Not sure what the solution is honestly. It is affecting our timelines now. The infrastructure team needs to take a decision now, as to what to do.
    I do have to add, we were able to connect to these "older" servers from our Windows 7 client machines which have SQL 2012 - both from SQL management studio & SSIS (using OLE-DB Provider for SQL Server).

    Hi Leonardo,
    It is possible to build a universe on a SQL Server Analysis Server cube. Once in the universe it is possible to use Query as a Web Service and or Live Office.
    There are some good blogs on connecting SAP cubes/BEx queries, but the same applies to any cube once the universe is connected.
