How to custom search

I can easily search almost any way I wish in Tiger, but I not in Leopard. Right now, in a Finder window, when I press command F, it switches to a "Find" window (I suppose this is properly called "Spotlight" or at least it is an element of Spotlight). I notice it has two dark location buttons. One is marked "This Mac" and the other is showing the name of one of my internal drive volumes (one that has no system installed). I don't remember designating which of my drive volumes should be represented on this button, and that is exactly what I want to change. How do I change this "Find" window to show a different drive volume for that location button?

Thanks to both of you. I am steps ahead in getting Leopard to do something better than Tiger -- although I still find it two steps ahead and one step back from Tiger in many ways. Not sure why Apple took away so much that I thought was ingenious about Tiger.
baltwo -- 1st link left me dazed and confused. I will read it over on my next three day weekend, cause it is really obtuse for me. 2nd link seemed mostly informational about Spotlight. Maybe Find is an arm of Spotlight??? 3rd link helped a lot. I never understand why people like to use Terminal to simply replace a file in an application bundle. All I did was open the original plist in TextEdit, "Save As" to my backup folder, drag the backup to the Contents window, click "Authenticate" and typed my password. For me, it is much easier (and less chance of a mistake) than using Terminal.
Next I want to enable searching the Contents (upper case C) of application bundles. I found a way to edit a file in Safari that acts as a database of "Top Hits", but now I've forgotten which it was. If I could search for the contents of the files in the Contents folders (yes, I meant to repeat that), it would make my day.

Hello,
Is it possible to create a custom search portlet whose search results are displayed on a page grouped by Category? Basically the results page should have Category heading followed by search results.
I realize this is not canned functionality but any ideas on how to accomplish this using PLSQL APIs is also welcome.

hi,
one workaround i could think of is using the CM views to search for content that belongs to a category and display it in a custom way.

this only allows you to search for the meta-data available in the CM views but not the content of an item that is available when doing a search.
in the next major portal release we will have a publich search API that can be used for these type of requirements. you can execute your search and format the results in the way you want.

How to add a Link to a custom Search Componnent (HTMLB)

i developed a custom Search Component for the Search iView based on the <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/41cbcb56-0701-0010-43b4-fbc138ea2b6a">Tutorial</a> (CodeSamples Section) from Thilo Brandt. It extends the BaseCompositeComponent and implements the iSearchComponent. In the Tutorial he creates the Elements (Checkboxes, links, etc.) in the Method "renderComponent()". He also creates a Link, but i need it with a different function. The link in the tutorial a releases a new search roundtrip. I need to open a new Bowserwindow and show the content of a specified URL. How can i do that?
The second Problem is that i have to show an icon for the Link. I added an Image to the the Project to the /dist/images Path. But how can i access this resource? The following code shows xou the Problem. I need to fill the variable pathToImage.

you don't need to use custom actions in order to add links to the quick launch menu. It allows to add links programmatically to the menu items collections directly, see e.g.

How to pass custom search help(F4 help) for a field in ALV output?

Hi,
I want to activate the F4 help in ALV output for a field for which we do not have search help assigned at table ,data element and domain level.
In field catalog i have enabled it by below line.
ls_fcat-F4AVAILABL = 'X'.
but because there are no standard input help available it is giving message as "No input help is available".
so how to pass our custom search help (g_search) for any field in ALV output.
I am using object oriented ALV grid display.

With a Custom Search portlet how to Sort the Result By Sequence. i.e. by respecting arrangements of the items in the page of contents?
Actually the Results Options "Order By" are : Create Date, Author, Creator, Date Updated, Display Name, Last Update by, Publish Date, Score.
Is there an action to add the "Sequence" Order By result Option?

is not a bug because it was not written to do this.

How to restore Firefox custom search bar

I'm using Firefox 37.0.1 and for some reason my custom search bar is gone. It was there last time I was online and I don't think I did anything to remove it. I used to be able to change the search engine over to Youtube, Wikipedia, Amazon and what have you but now it only searches Google. I checked this page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/use-search-bar-firefox-and-manage-search-engines#w_hide-search-engines
but it didn't help. Does anyone know how to get it back? I think I need to do something with the about:config page but I don't want to mess with that without asking someone who knows what they're doing first (read: not me XD). I've added a screenshot of what my search bar looks like now.

Try the following and see if it works:
Click on the menu icon (three bars) in the top-right corner, and choose "customize". You should see the search bar somewhere in the window, and can drag it back to next to what is shown in the picture. The article [[Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars|Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars]] also has instructions one how to do this.

Search Term 2
Label used for search helps.
Only uppercase letters are stored in this field. Your entries are converted automatically to uppercase letters.
There are two of these fields for search terms. These fields can be used independently of each other.
Procedure
You can use your own criteria for entering the search term.
Example
You can enter the main part of the name or an organizational ID.
For example, for the company "Hechinger & Sons", you could enter "Hechinger" as the first search term.
The second search term could then be the name ID you use within your company, to help you identify your data later.

How do I save and recall a custom search in 10.5?

In 10.4 I could hit command+F then make a custom search that I could place in my sidebar and revisit later by clicking and then clicking "edit." I find I can't do that now in 10.5. What I'd like to do is set up a custom finder search for sound effects that does the following:
• Searches only two specific drives (you used to be able to add or subtract locations to search, now you only have "This Mac" or your username, you can't add locations!)
• Has two "name" fields and one "Kind" is "Audio"
• Can be recalled.

The functionality for searching multiple different places was removed in Leopard. It can still be done, but it isn't easy, you have to edit the saved smart search file. I saved one and edited it so that it searches both my startup drive and my data drive, and only those drives/partitions, but I have not bothered to configure another like that, too much trouble.
For a more normal sort of user the best bet is to create two smart seaches, one for each drive you wish to search--open the drive, hit Command-F then click the drive name rather than the idiotic default of This Mac, do the same for the other drive, configure the search for each drive and save. When you want to use the searches you would open two Finder windows and click the first smart search in the sidebar of window one and the second smart search in window two.
While you must fill something in the search terms box, you can do something that will return almost no results, for instance "Name:matches:xyz" and save. When you bring the saved search up, click the Gear/Action item in the window's toolbar, then select "Show Search Criteria"--the fields you had when you saved it will then display and you can edit them.

     I would like to create a new custom responsibility, which the responsibility is having access to Standard Customer Form (ARXCUDCI.fmb) , but I would like to make a restriction in the customer search form is that, everytime the responsibility user search by customer number, customer name, party name or what ever search field, I would like to limit to restrict further of searching criteria where SALES_CHANNEL_TYPE = 'RTL' is allowed to populate the customer records, there rest of customer records are not allowed to search out.
    This SALES_CHANNEL_TYPE column is from HZ_CUST_ACCOUNTS table.
    I have tried the Form Personalization already, but the customer searching form has too many fields for user to search, therefore form personalization will be putting all over the places in the form. Therefore I saw others recommended of doing "Custom DLL"...may I know for my scenario, how to I go about Customer DLL? or any other more effective solution?
   Appreciate if anyone can share your experience related to matter above.

The personalization i sent you works in this way:
-It does not matter which field you choose to enter the query.
-If a record is found, when the form opens and the cursor hits the Customer Name field, the personalization looks for the content of the Sales Channel field.
-If the content of this field is different from the 'RTL' string, the form Customers form (ARXCUDCI) is cleared.
Independently from the field you fill to perform the query, is a record is found, the Customer Name field is the first the cursor hits when the form is opened.

How to use Custom Search in Dynamic Page or HTML Portlet ?

Gurus,
1. I have a tab called My Space in the portal web site, where user gets a personalized view of the content.
2. I am using custom attributes and custom item types. I have a custom attribute called 'Location', which is a attribute of custom item types.
3. I have 2 pages - News and Events.
4. All the content in News and Events page is tagged by the attribute 'Location'.
5. The requirement is to let the user search the News and Events by Location.
6. To achieve this I used the Custom Search portlet and the user can select the attribute Location and see the resultant News and Event items by location in the Search portlet.
7. The requirement is to present the News items and Event items in separate regions on the page and show only the first 5 News and Event items in the result and show a More link which would guide the user to rest of the News and Event items.
8. Eventually there may be more content other than News and Events tagged by location. If so, the requirement is to create a new region and display the new content.
9. How would I do this using custom search ? I was thinking if there is anyway I could use the custom search api (where can i find it ?) in the HTML portlet or Dynamic page and submit the result to IFRAMES in each region and show the output ?

I would suggest that you use two custom search portlets; one for the news items and one for the events items. Switch the custom search portlets to "AutoQuery" mode and add the relevant criteria. On the results display tab of the the "edit defaults" screen, choose to show just 5 items.
To add a link to show the user mode results, I'd create two new pages that have just a single custom search portlet on it that is customised to show more of the results and maybe has the pagination links enabled.
Then I'd add two "Page Link" items underneath the two news and events portlets on the first page in an item region.
I'm sure there are other ways of doing this as well. Hope that helps to get you started.

How do I get rid of Google Custom Search as my default search?

Every time I start FF it has Google Custom Search in the location bar search box. I have delete it multiple times, but the next time I start FF, it is back in the box. I want Bing as my primary search engine. How do I get rid of the Google Custom Search???
Also, how do I get rid of that CouponNetwork Coupon Activator? I have looked for it to delete the file, but can't find it. How do I get rid of it??

That page didn't & has not worked. I have gone through & deleted all the search engines except Bing, probably 15-20 times. When I restart FF Google Custom Search is back in the list & is displayed in the seach box, even though Bing is listed first or the only one in the management section & supposed to be the default.
On the Coupon Activator, that is what I thought also, but it is not listed on the Add/Remove program. I have even done a search on my drive for that filename, but it can't be found.
Any other ideas for both problems???

How to embed custom search field in toolbar

My organization wants to integrate the Zoom Search Engine by
Wrensoft with RoboHelp 7. We want to embed the search input field
for Zoom in the main toolbar of the Help window. The skin editor in
RoboHelp does not provide an easy way to do this. I can add a
custom button that links to the custom search form, but I cannot
figure out how to embed a custom search field in the toolbar. Does
anyone have any experience or direction you can provide us?

I very much doubt that can be done. There's a topic on my
site about integrating ZoomSearch but the start point of any search
is a field that ZoomSearch provides in the htm page it creates.
Getting that field onto your toolbar is going to be outside the way
Zoom was designed.
Your developers would have to pull apart the mechanics of
that page and figure it out, if it can be done.
Have you tried approaching WrenSoft to see if they can
suggest anything?
Personally I think it is going to be a massive effort for
minimal benefit. What's the objection to clicking a button that
provides a page with the field and the results? If you get the
field into the toolbar, the search page has still got to display to
show the results.

We have search help and list box as 2 different options.
At a time we can make a field a list box or a search help.List box is restricted and we can pick values from the defined list whereas in search help we can allow more entries and then validate the value entered later.
Implementing a listbox or search help in infotype is same as that of implementing it in a modulepool .
for search help..we can create a custom search help or check for existing search help in se11
then in the screen on infotype field..assign the search help direcly at the screen painter level..
double click on the field in screen painter -> change mode and then in the space for "search help" enter the search helps name
for list box..in the screen painter ,make sure the field is selected as list box..then in PAI of screen we do a
(Process on value-request..field fieldname module module name)..check syntax and other details...
Using function module vrm_set_value fill the field and populate it as required

This is for working time -> leave request screen
In field selection there is one field 'code for description of illness'. I have done required config for getting this field on ESS Screen. This field already has standard search help. So I m able to view the values of this field on ESS screen .
So I thought to try assigning custom search help to this CUSTOMER0 field. Is there any method in BADI PT_ABS_REQ through which I can achieve the same. Please help.
