How to deal with LONG data type in RTF template
Hi,
I'm developing a PO request report in which I should print some attachments. The attachments are stored in the database in table fnd_attachments_long_text in column long_text which data type is LONG. In my case the content of the column long_text is always plain text.
The query I use to get the text from the table is something like:
select long_text
from fnd_documents_long_text
where <some_conditions....>
The query runs fine in SQL developer but when I run the XML report I get following error: "Stream has already been closed". The XML file generated is complete in its structure but the XML node which should contain the text of the attachment is empty, therefore I cannot print the attachment in the report.
I made some researches on metalink and I've found note 832903.1 which explains the same error I'm getting. Looks like I cannot execute more than 1 query using the same JDBC connection if one of these queries retrieves a LONG data type.
Any advice on how can I get the attachment text to show correctly in my report?
Thank you
Hi,
Thank you for your reply,
Yes, I tried to get the text as described in that article but maybe I'm missing something because my data template doesn't show the attachment text.
The article talks about support for BLOB, CLOB and RAW and at the end it states "but we do not have support for RAW and LONG column types at the moment - we're looking into that for a future release". So this makes me think that I won't be albe to retrieve my text since it's stored in a LONG column.
I think that the error I'm getting is not strictly related to XML publisher but it is in some way related to the JDBC connection used to get the data. Infact I have an old version of the same report I'm trying do develop which is made in Report Builder and it is retrieving the attachment text correctly.
Right now I'm trying to use the Report Builder engine to get the XML data and then use XML Publisher to create the PDF output. Anyway, if it is possible, I would like to avoid Report Builder and use only XMLP.
Thanks

Using DBMS_DATAPUMP with LONG data type
I've got a procedure below that calls the DBMS_DATAPUMP procedure using a REMOTE_LINK to move a schema from one database to another. However, a couple of the tables within that schema have columns with the LONG data type. And when I run it I get an error saying that you cannot move data with the LONG data type using a REMOTE LINK. So no data in those particular tables gets moved over.
Has anyone else had this issue? If so, do you have a work around? I tried adding a CLOB column to my table and setting the new CLOB to equal the LONG, but I couldn't get that to work either...even when I tried using a TO_LOB. If I could get that to, then I could just drop the LONG, move the schema, then recreate the LONG column on the opposite side.
Here's my procedure....

Well, anyway you should point out to your superiors that Oracle documented years ago to not use LONGS anymore...
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/datatype.htm#sthref3806
It clearly states:
LONG Datatype
Note:
Do not create tables with LONG columns. Use LOB columns (CLOB, NCLOB) instead. LONG columns are supported only for backward compatibility.
Oracle also recommends that you convert existing LONG columns to LOB columns. LOB columns are subject to far fewer restrictions than LONG columns. Further, LOB functionality is enhanced in every release, whereas LONG functionality has been static for several releases.
How do I go from CLOB to LONG?I'm sorry, cannot help you on that one, I don't think you can do that at all (Oracle wants us to stop using LONGS, so, it's a one-way conversion...):
http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:0::::P11_QUESTION_ID:1037232794454#15512131314505
So: NO built_in, you'll need to write a program if the clob is ALWAYS LESS THAN 32k in size, you can use plsql..but is that the case in your case? Only you know that.
I believe that question is still unanswered on this forum, but you might try searchin for answers on this forum, and
the 'Database-General' forum: General Database Discussions
Perhaps you can google a Q&D workaround...
( And consider convincing your collegues to just convert your LONGS to LOBS)

My column contact_person has a data type of boolean. It stores 1 and -1 only.
I'm am trying to execute the select statement to return The Band Name and contact number only if the person

How to get the CSV,DATA output from RTF template
Hi Jorge
Thanks for your help.
as in the link you have given RTF template can have the output type CSV,DATA but in the preview i can see only html,powerpoint,pdf,html excel .
How to see the output in SCV,DATA format using my RTF template do i need to do specific design for those outputs.
Thnaks in AdvanceIt is because it has been preconfigured with such outputs.
To modify and add more output types simply go to:
1. Edit your Report
2. Click on "View a List" (upper right hand corner)
3. Click on the "output formats" (corresponding to your layout) and
4. Check (add) the additional output formats you want your report to have.

How to display images in BI Publisher from a LONG data type
We are storing images in Oracle Database as LONG data type. When I am giving query in BI Publisher and view the XML generated, I am getting the following error.

Can anyone suggest the solution?Hi
my problem is, for each job_id there is many users. Oh that's something completlty different...
I Strongly Recommand to_
1.*create 2 tables Jobs & users*
2.*create a relation between them* 1 to many to get for each job more than a user that's the way that Must be -- execuse me the bad design of the db pulled u into this trap -
3.then u can deal with it normally no need to a sample code but just a form with Jobs as (Master) and Users as (detail) with a relation and with a simple query u can display each job_id is for many users.
no null values no commas r needed.
Hope this helps...

How can I retrieve a LONG data type using ADO
In VB I am using an ADODB object to retrieve data from an Oracle table that has a LONG data type column...
specifically: SELECT TRIGGER_BODY FROM USER_TRIGGERS WHERE TRIGGER_NAME = 'MYTRIGGER'
I have tried using the GETCHUNK method but it only returns the first 150 or so characters no matter how
many times I call it???? here is the sample code I'm using........
Dim Cn As ADODB.Connection, Rs As ADODB.Recordset, SQL As String
Dim sChunk() As Byte
Set Cn = New ADODB.Connection
Set Rs = New ADODB.Recordset
Cn.CursorLocation = adUseServer
Cn.Open "Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle.1;Password=hrzadmin;Persist Security
Info=True;UserID=hadmin;Data Source=xxx.local"
SQL = "SELECT trigger_body from user_triggers where trigger_name = 'MYTRIGGER'"
Rs.Open SQL, Cn, adOpenStatic, adLockReadOnly
Debug.Print Rs!trigger_name
Debug.Print Rs!trigger_body
sChunk = rs.Fields("trigger_body").GetChunk(500)
Debug.Print sChunkI have a similar code which works for chunk size >400,
The image I am trying to retrieve is huge so the chunksize is also more.
Did you try with any non meta table?
For your reference I am pasting my application code below.
Hope it helps.

How to insert data in a column with uniqueidefier data type
Guys,
I need insert data in a column with uniqueidefier data type, when i am trying to that getting error.
error message says: "Conversion failed when converting from a character string to uniqueidentifier."
I have data in table a col1,col2,col3,col4 - col3,col4 has datatype as varchar and i am updating table b columns col1,col2 with table a col3 and col4.
Please guide how to do it.Hi,
Not any String can be convert to uniqueidentifier.
1. you have to make sure u use a value which is fir to be uniqueidentifier
2. Use convert or cast in the insert query in order to convert the string into uniqueidentifier
insert X ... convert(uniqueidentifier, 'string which fit to be convert to uniqueidentifier')
Please post DDL+DML for more specific help
DDL = Data Definition Language. In our case that is, CREATE TABLE statements for your tables and other definitions that are needed to understand your tables structure and there for let us to test and reproduce the problem in our server. Without DDL no one
can execute any query.
How to get DDL: Right click on the table in Object Explorer and select script table as CREATE. Post these create table scripts here.
DML = data manipulation language is a family of queries used for manipulating the data it self like: inserting, deleting and updating data. In our case we need some sample data in order to check the query and get result, so we need some indert query for
sample data.
If you post a "create query" for the tables and "insert query" with some sample, then we could help you without Assuming/Guessing. There is a reason that DDL is generally asked for and expected when discussing query problems - it helps
to identify issues, clarify terminology and prevent incorrect assumptions. Sample data also provides a common point of reference for the discussion. A script that can be used to illustrate or reproduce the issue you have, will encourage others to help.

I followed a procedure described in a book.
1. insert "Inventory.xml" file to a project "WpfXmlDataBinding" .
2. add the XML data source through the data panel of "blend for 2013", named it "InventoryXmlDataStore" and store it in the current document.
3. dragged and droppped the nodes from the Data panel onto the artboard.
Then I checked my Xaml file against the one provided by the book
Xaml file by the book:
<Window.Resources>
<!-- This part is missing in my xaml file --><XmlDataProvider x:Key="InventoryDataSource"
Source="\Inventory.xml"
d:IsDataSource="True"/>
<!-- This part is missing in my xaml file -->
<DataTemplate x:Key="ProductTemplate">

<TextBlock Text="{Binding XPath=Cost}"/>
<TextBlock Text="{Binding XPath=Description}"/>
<CheckBox IsChecked="{Binding XPath=HotItem}"/>
<TextBlock Text="{Binding XPath=Name}"/>
</StackPanel>
</DataTemplate>
</Window.Resources>
<Grid>
<ListBox HorizontalAlignment="Left"
ItemTemplate="{DynamicResource ProductTemplate}"
ItemsSource="{Binding XPath=/Inventory/Product}"
Margin="89,65,0,77" Width="200"/>
</Grid>
my Xaml file:
<Window x:Class="WpfXmlDataBinding.MainWindow"
xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"
xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"

</Grid>
</Window>
All looks quite the same except the <XmlDataProvider ....> part under <Window.Resources>, which is gone completely in my Xaml file.
1, Why?
2, How many different ways to deal with xml data source through WPF?
Thanks, guys.
(ps My "WpfXmlDataBinding" runs without problem through.)Never do yourself down Richard.
Leave that to other people.
It's quite common for smart developers to think they're not as good as they are.
I coach a fair bit and it's a surprisingly common feeling.
And to repeat.
Never use anything ends .. provider. They're for trivial demo apps. Transform xml into objects and use them. Write it back as xml. Preferably, use a database.
You want to read a little mvvm theory first.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Model_View_ViewModel
Whatever you do, don't read Josh Smiths explanation. I used to recommend it but it confuses the heck out newbies. Leave that until later.
Laurent Bugnion did a great presentation at mix10. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be working on the MS site, but I have a copy. Download and watch:
http://1drv.ms/1IYxl3z
I'm writing an article at the moment which is aimed at beginners.
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/30564.wpf-uneventful-mvvm.aspx
The sample is just a collection of techniques really.
I have a sample which involves no real data but is intended to illustrate some aspects of how viewmodels "do stuff" and how you use datatemplates to generate UI.
I can't remember if I recommended it previously to you:
https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/WPF-Dialler-simulator-d782db17
And I have working samples which are aimed at illustrating line of business architecture. This is an incomplete step by step series but I think more than enough to chew on once you've done the previous stuff.
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/28209.wpf-entity-framework-mvvm-walk-through-1.aspx
The write up for step2 is work in progress.

Hope that helps.

How to deal with deadlock on wwv_flow_data table when http server times out
There are some threads about a deadlock on the wwv_flow_data table. None of them contain a real explanation for this behaviour. In my case I will try to explain what I think is happening. Maybe it helps somebody who is hitting the same matter.
In my case with APEX 3.2.1 I am navigating from one page to another. Doing this APEX will lock the table wwv_flow_data. As soon as the other page is shown the lock will be released. But now this other page contains a bad performing query (standaard report region). After 5 minutes the http server (modplsql) will time out and present the message "No response from the application server" on the screen. In the meanwhile the query is still running on the database server and the lock stays on the wwv_flow_data table.
Normal user behaviour will be that the user will use the back button to return to the previous page and tries it again to navigate to the other page or
the user will try to refresh the page with the bad performing query.
And voila now you will have a deadlock on the wwv_flow_data table since a second session is trying to do the same thing while the first hasn't finished yet.
How to deal with it?
First of all. Have a good look at the bad performing query. Maybe you can improve it that it will succeed before the http server will timeout.
In my case the 11gr1 optimizer couldn't handle a subquery factoring clause in the best way. After changing it back to a classical inline query the problem was solved.
Secondly you could increase the timeout parameter of the http server. Although this not the best way.
Maybe it would better if APEX in a next version would release the lock on the table wwv_flow_date earlier or do a rollback just before the moment that the http server is timing out.

Mathieu MeeuwissenHello Shmoove,
I saw your reply here and you probably understand the problems the HTTP 100 response may cause.
I am trying to send image that was taken by getSnapshot. The problem is that the server respond with this HTTP 100 message.

Call a method with complex data type from a DLL file
Hi,
I have a win32 API with a dll file, and I am trying to call some methods from it in the labview. To do this, I used the import library wizard, and everything is working as expected. The only problem which I have is with a method with complex data type as return type (a vector). According to this link, import library wizard can not import methods with complex data type.
The name of this method is this: const std::vector< BlackfinInterfaces::Count > Counts ()
where Count is a structure defined as below:
struct Count
Count() : countTime(0) {}
std::vector<unsigned long> countLines;
time_t countTime;
It seems that I should manually use the Call Library Function Node. How can I configure parameters for the above method?You cannot configure Call Library Function Node to call this function. LabVIEW has no way to pass a C++ class such as vector to a DLL.

JDBC insert with XMLTYPE data type
Hi,
SOAP to JDBC scenario. Oracle 11G as a receiver.
Requirement is to insert whole xml payload message in one of Oracle table fields as a xml string. Target oracle DB table column is defined with XMLTYPE data type, it has capacity to hold xml data more than 4GB. I am using graphical mapping with direct INSERT statement.
When I try to insert xml payload with smaller size transaction goes through. However when the xml payload size increases it is giving following error in JDBC receiver communication channel monitoring.
Could not execute statement for table/stored proc. "TABLE_NAME" (structure "StructName") due to java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01704: string literal too long
Here is insert statement as in communication channel monitoring. (Note: XML payload with bold characters is truncated)
INSERT INTO TABLE_NAME (REQ_ID, OUTAGE_OBJ, TIMESTAMP, PROCESSED_FLAG) VALUES (VAL1, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>............</>, TO_DATE(2010-11-15 10:21:52,YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS), N)
Any suggestions to handle this requirement?
Thank you in advance.
Anand More.Hi Anand,
The problem here is definitely the length of the SQL query. i.e "INSERT INTO ......... VALUES......."
This is what i got when i searched for this ORACLE error code:
ORA-01704: string literal too long
Cause: The string literal is longer than 4000 characters.
Action: Use a string literal of at most 4000 characters. Longer values may only be entered using bind variables.
Please ask a ORACLE DB expert on how to handle this Also i am not sure how can we handle Bind Varibales in SAP PI.
I hope this helps.
