How to deploy 9.3.2 incremental patch (msp) over group policy

Hello to all,
i have deployed Reader 9.3.1 via group policy in windows (software installation package).
It was installed on all clients successfully.
Now that 9.3.2 msp file came out i need to distribute the new incremental patch to all hosts in the domain.
I wanted to slipstream the 9.3.2 msp update into the 9.3.1 msi,so i tried the following command:
msiexec /a AdbeRdr931_en_us.msi /p AdbeRdrUpd932_all_incr.msp
I also tried msiexec /a AdbeRdr930_en_us.msi /p AdbeRdrUpd932_all_incr.msp supposing that it needs the 9.3.0 initial package to work.
But the following error comes out in both commands:
The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the windows installer service  because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch  may update a different version of the program.  Verify that the program  to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct  upgrade patch.
What could be wrong?
What is the recomended way to deploy an incremental patch msp file to an already deployed earlier version?

I used this MSIEXEC.exe command this morning VIA a GPO and installed on both 9.3.0 &
9.3.1
MSIEXEC.EXE /update \\xxxxxxx\xxx\adobereader932\adberdrupd932_all_incr.msp /quiet
This must be put in the login script under the Computer system in the GPO.
I just used Notepad and created a *.bat file, yes not good as a *.MSI but it works.

  • Deploy Acrobat Reader 10.1.3 via MSI Group Policy

The purpose of this thread is to identify EASIEST way to create/obtain an MSI file of the LATEST VERSION of Acrobat Reader (currently 10.1.3 as of 7/19/2012) to be deployed via GPO.  I am not concerned with customizations of Reader settings as I have accomplished this already using Group Policy.
It sounds so easy, but I have found it to be quite frustrating and extremely time consuming to figure this out.
Here's what I have so far:
To download the full installer from Adobe, you must first apply on Adobe's website to distribute Reader:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/rdr_distribution1.html
Once you submit the request, a short time later you'll get an e-mail with a link to download the full exe file of reader 10.1.3.
Here's a link that explains how to extract an MSI from this exe:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/dmcmahon/2010/06/16/how-to-extract-an-msi-file-from-the-exe-
    for-adobe-reader/
Even with following those steps, I do not end up with an MSI file which will install 10.1.3.
    To try another route:
There is also an Adobe FTP site.  If you navigate down into the Reader 10.1.0 folder there is an MSI file.  Good - but it's the old version.
You would think that if you navigate into the 10.1.3 folder there would be an MSI there as well.
Unfortunately there is not.  However, there is an MSP file found in the misc folder:
I have tried several methods that are supposed to combine the MSP file with the MSI file - they have not worked.
I have also tried several methods of modifying MSI files, and using the Adobe Cusomization wizard downloadable here:  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4950
I am unable to end up with a deployable MSI file for Reader 10.1.3.
It's amazing that it's so complicated to deploy the latest version of Adobe Reader to my users.
Does anyone have a comprehensive answer to this simple problem?  I do not want a link to a document with 20 pages explaining the theory of MSP files.  I am looking for a concise, step by step method to obtain an MSI for 10.1.3 quickly and easily.
    Thanks!

First there isn't a single MSI file that will install Adobe Reader 10.1.3 available. There are two ways in which you can create an installer package that will install Adobe Reader 10.1.3.
    1.  Bootstrapper
    -  Bootstrapper uses the Setup.ini file to create a chained installation process and is run from Setup.exe with a limited amount of installation switches available.
The process is documented in the Enterprise Administration Guide:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83709/attachments/Acrobat_Enterprise_Administration.pdf #page=77
Here is a reference video on the process:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zYTUyOIcNk
    2.  AIP (Administrative Installation Point)
    - AIP uses the Windows Installer to create a decompressed updated full MSI based installer.  The process is documented in the Enterprise Administration Guide:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83709/attachments/Acrobat_Enterprise_Administration.pdf #page=70
Here is a reference video on the process: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05XOKX0150w&feature=relmfu
    * Please note, that each installation method has it's advantages and disadvantages. Those aspects of each installation type need to be seriously considered for your specific environment and what will and will not work for the IT group and user groups within your enterprise before you decide upon one of them.

  • How do I distribute latest update (7.0.1) via Group Policy?

Our company is just now getting into Acrobat Reader/Standard/Professional version 7. Is there an easy way to upgrade them at the same time they are installed via Active Directory Group Policy?
I have the ".msi" for the update, but I can't make the package install after the software installs. It always tries to install first or at the same time.
Better yet - is there a way to patch the source files? Then I can just have the computers reinstall from the source.
    Thanks!

Ok, we have the upgrade deployed and tested here and it's working fine.
If anyone else has this problem the procedure is:
    - Download the 7.0.1 upgrade .exe file.
    - Launch the program, but do not click anything on the
    installation screen.
    - Browse to:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\{0C55731F-7B21-4936-839A-BA09B2EAED59}
    - Copy the MSI file in this folder to the shared folder you use
    for deploying software.
    - Create a new group policy object and add the upgrade MSI
(I don't believe you can reliably set the installation order
from within a single group policy object).
    - Ensure the upgrade appears HIGHER in the group policy list than
acrobat 7 (ie with a lower link order value), to ensure that the
    upgrade installs after acrobat.

  • How to access a domain server which is targeted by Group Policy set to block Inbound and Outbound connections

    Hi,
I have a practice lab with two physical servers 2012 R2, one of them is Hyper-V host and one of VMs is a domain controller. I was doeing some exercises with firewall rule deployment through Group Policy, so I created an outbound rule to block port 80 which
was targeted to Domain Computers. Now my other physical server has inbound and outbound connections set to block and domain controller cannot be contacted to update policy ( with rule removed ). At least that is my understanding. Maybe I messed up something
with the profiles too, because port 80 would not have block all outband traffic, or?
I am new to IT so my understanding is still poor.
    Best
    Robert

    Hi Robert,
If we block inbound connections, all connections that do not have firewall rules that explicitly allow the connection will be blocked.
If we block outbound connections, all connections that do not have firewall rules that explicitly allow the connection will be blocked.
If we block outbound TCP port 80, it will mean all websites will be unreachable, for TCP port 80 is for HTTP.

  • How to set two DNS domain in one Remote VPN group policy

    Hello experts
I am using ASA 8.2 to provide IPsec remote VPN for our staff.  And in the group policy I set default domain name which is needed for our DNS server to resolve internal URLs.  But the problem is now we have two domain names on our DNS server, and host names in two domains are differents. So if I setup one domain name in the group policy, URLs in the other domain cannot be resolved when using VPN.  But ADSM seems doesn't allow me to setup two domain names for the attribute 'Default Domain'.  What can I do?
    Thanks a lot.

Come on Experts, please help.  Any way to achieve that, or it's a mission impossible.

Although we don't support incremental deployment

  • [Forum FAQ] How to deploy applications remotely

In some situations, we may need some ways to install applications remotely, here we summarize four general ways to deploy applications.
    1. Using PowerShell to install
We can use the Win32_Product class to install Windows Installer packages, remotely or locally, so in this way, we can use powerShell command to invoke this function. For example, to install the NewPackage.msi package located in the network
share \\AppServ\remote on the remote computer PC01, type the following command at the Windows PowerShell prompt:
    (Get-WMIObject -ComputerName PC01 -List | Where-Object -FilterScript {$_.Name -eq "Win32_Product"}).Install(\\AppSrv\remote\NewPackage.msi)
In same method, we can use the following command to deploy .exe application:
    (Get-WMIObject -ComputerName PC01 -List | Where-Object -FilterScript {$_.Name -eq "Win32_Process"}).Create(\\AppSrv\remote\NewPackage.exe)
Note: The applications should use Windows Installer technology.
    2. PsExec tool: one of sysinternals utilities
PsExec's most powerful uses include launching interactive command-prompts on remote systems and remote-enabling tools like IpConfig that otherwise do not have the ability to show information about remote systems. So, we can use this feature to install our
applications, in fact this is similar with PowerShell methods, the only difference is that PsExec is a comprehensive tool. Similarly, we can use the following command to achieve our goal:
    psexec \\PC01  cmd /c  "\\AppSrv\remote\NewPackage.msi" /quiet /norestart
Note: we can also use PsExec tool to install Microsoft Update file (.msu)
    psexec \\PC01  -s -h -d wusa.exe  "\\AppSrv\remote\NewPackage.msu" /quiet /norestart
    3. Group Policy Software Installation
In domain environment, this method is very useful to deploy our software. It only supports MSI package for deployment.
We can choose assign a program to user or computer. If you assign the program to a user, it is installed when the user logs on to the computer. When the user first runs the program, the installation is completed. If you assign the program to a computer,
it is installed when the computer starts, and it is available to all users who log on to the computer. When a user first runs the program, the installation is completed.
You can get the installation information of group policy software installation in event viewer, including success or failure.
    4. System Center Configuration Manger
The Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager software distribution feature provides a set of tools and resources that help you create and manage packages and advertisements used to distribute software to client resources within your enterprise. This
is a comprehensive suit for deployment.

Applications that do not use Windows Installer technology may have application-specific methods for automated deployment. For example, a .exe file may be just a wrapper, it can be anything. To determine whether there is a method for deployment automation,
check the documentation for the application or consult the application vendor's support system. In some cases, even if the application vendor did not specifically design the application for installation automation, the installer software manufacturer may have

  • How to deploy a secured ADF 11g application to WebLogic 10.3 server?

    Hi,
I have just enabled security in our ADF 11g application, as descripbed in [chapter 29|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/web.1111/b31974/adding_security.htm#insertedID0] of the Fusion Developer's Guide. It works fine in the embedded WebLogic server of JDeveloper.
Now I'm trying to deploy to our WebLogic 10.3 server, which runs in production mode. I'm running into all sorts of problems. The WebLogic console seems to have hundreds of security related pages, I don't know which one I should use, let alone how to use it. The Fusion Developer's Guide doesn't cover deployment to a production server:
    >
When the target server is configured for production mode, you typically handle the migration task outside of JDeveloper using tools like Oracle Enterprise Manager. For details about using tools outside of JDeveloper to migrate the policy store to the domain-level in a production environment, see the [Oracle Fusion Middleware Security Guide|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/core.1111/e10043/toc.htm].
    >
However, this guide is of very little help to me. I found [chapter 7|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/core.1111/e10043/addlsecfea.htm#insertedID0], which says "The recommended tool is Fusion Middleware Control." I have no idea what "Fusion Middleware Control" is, where to get it and how to use it.
Long story short: I'm totally lost. I'm looking for a step by step guide on how to deploy a secured ADF 11g application to a WegLogic 10.3 server that is running in production mode. Any help is highly appreciated.

Ok, I found a [very helpful blog post |http://andrejusb.blogspot.com/2009/01/practical-adf-security-deployment-on.html] by [Andrejus Baranovski|http://www.blogger.com/profile/04468230464412457426]. I wish Oracle's documentation was as clear as this...
The blog post refers to an article by Steve Muench, called [Simplified ADF 11g Application Credential and Policy Migration to Standalone WebLogic Servers|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/muench/credmig111100/index.html]. This article presents an Ant script that migrates policies from JDeveloper to WebLogic, using some PFM. (See the last definition here.)
The problem is that Steve Muench's script assumes that JDeveloper and the standalone WebLogic are on the same machine. However, in a typical environment, such as the one I'm working in currently, this is not the case. In our case the developer stations are Windows machines, while our WebLogic server runs on a HP-UX machine. So the question is: how to perform this migration between two machines with different operating systems?
