How to determine count for the number of rows

Appreciate if any of you could think of a way of determining the count for the number of rows in the subquery without having to run another query.
SELECT *FROM
(SELECT rownum, rn, rlp_id, rlp_notes, cad_pid, status, jurisdiction_id, s.state_abbr, rlp_address, rlp_route_id, rlp_route_section, psma_version FROM ipod.relevant_land_parcels r, state s WHERE s.state_pid = r.state_pid(+) AND rlp_route_id = 'SM1' AND status = 'CURRENT')WHERE rn > 200 AND rn < 216
And I want to import this into.net and C# environment.

Something like this,.....????
SQL> select * from emp;
EMPNO ENAME      JOB         MGR HIREDATE          SAL      COMM DEPTNO

  • How do I find out the number of rows in a resultset ?

    Without scrolling it.

    And explain to me, oh sarcastic one, how it wouldn't be a better idea to put that data into a datastructure and pass that back.1. Performance with very large ResultSet objects for which only sparse data is desired (that's what pages are for).
    2. Resource optimization.
    3. Efficient sequential processing.
    4. The ability to intelligently determine based on resource usage whether to page the results or use your implementation for small ResultSet objects.
    Answering your points:
    1. I just showed him a very easy way to get the size.
    2. I don't see any advantage of a collection (if that's what you were envisioning) over a paged ResultSet. Actually the ResultSet is a collection of sorts.
    3. Your data is reliant on the connection initially anyway. The collection would only provide an advantage in the possibly short window while the data was being viewed.
    4. You can always resort a ResultSet by requerying.

  • Output the number of rows returned in a query

    How do I find out the number of rows that are returned in a query?
    COUNT function I guess can only be used when there is only one table involved. How do I do it for multi table query like JOIN?
    For example
    SELECT emp.first_name, emp.last_name, jobs.age FROM employees emp, jobs
    WHERE emp.employee_id=jobs.employee_id

    Hi,
    You can get the num of rows info
    select count(*) from (SELECT emp.first_name, emp.last_name, jobs.age FROM employees emp, jobs
    WHERE emp.employee_id=jobs.employee_id) ;

  • How to determine the number of rows of data in a datatable?

    I have a datatable that I fill from an SQL query.  I do not know exactly how many rows of data it will return (due to my selection criteria) but will be somewhere between 100 and 300 rows.  I send this data into a report but need to determine the length of the report (panel height data member) programatically based on how much data the query has returned.  So, I need a way to count how many rows are filled in the data table.
    I tried doing a nested "if" statement checking the value of each cell but when I tested the expression at 59 "if" statements (will need 300+) I got a parser error in lookout when I tried to accept the connection.  I also tried a type of loop by assigning cursor.2 either to its own value (circular) or to its own value plus one depending on the value of the cell at cursor.2.  It was close but overshot by one row or more (much more sometimes).
    Any clever ideas?  Perhaps I have just been looking at this problem too long.  Thanks, in advance, for your help.

    Since the datatable gets the data from the SQL query, you can also use the SQL statement to count the number of rows in the query result.
    For example, in datatable you do "select localtime, trace1 from intdata where xxx". You can get the count by "select count(trace1) from intdata where xxx". Use the same condition in order to get the same number of rows.
    Maybe another SQLExec object is needed to do the count.
    Whenever the datatable executes the SQL, the SQLExec executes and return the count.

  • How to count the number of Rows to be Updated before Update takes place..

    Hi all,
    I have a requirement, where i have to count the number of rows to be updated before updating it. SQL%ROWCOUNT gives the no. of rows updated ( after update takes place). How do i get to know the count of no. of rows to be updated/inserted/ deleted. I was looking for a simple solution, as above SQL%Rowcount. But i couldn't find any. I can use a Function and Return the value which will give me number of rows to be updated, But is there any Simple Logic other than this.. or any count function. Your Help is Appreciated. Thanks!

    If you really want to do this (I have no clue why you would need it), then you can piggy back on any existing pessimistic locking you may already have in place.
    However, it would require two loops through the records of which you want to know the count before you update, and a second pass to update them.
    I would really re-think the need for this, though.

  • How to increase the number of rows for Entry via Excel in SSM ?

    hello
    we are facing a scenario where we need to enter the target data for more than 14000 fields.So when we open the excel ad in and trying to upload, it is accepting data for only 500 fields and the rest are not getting displayed.
    The condition is that we have to enter data via Entry and Approval and not using a procedure and multiple metric sets is not a feasible option since the number of records is large. How can the number of rows in excel be increased ?
    Vijay

    Hi Bob
    I am facing another problem....
    we have designed our model in such a way that we built it using normal procedures but the target values have to be entered using entry and Approval via Excel ad-in..
    the problem we are facing is that if we select both the actual and the target measures to load the data via Excel login then the column TARGET is getting greyed out. When we build the same model using cube builder , the column TARGET is not getting greyed out and we are able to enter data there.
    Is there any setting changes we need to make inorder to make the Entry and Approval process via Excel behave the same way when the model is built using the Cube builder ? Are there any new notes or a newer version of Excel ad in to resolve this ?

  • How to count the number of rows in a resultser object?

    hi there
    how to count the number of rows in a resultser object which may contains millions of rows? besides using a while loop? thanks

    You don't, you execute a query whose result is the record count of those records that match the search and then you execute the actual query to create your record set. Typically you do
    select count(id) from YourTable where [filter]
    from the resulting ResultSet do
    int res.getInt(1);
    which gives you the count and then
    select id from YourTable where [filter]
    to produce the actual result set.
    in the second query the id part can be substituted with the actual fields you want.

  • How to execute a same sequence number for the resulting dynamic rows

    Hi friends,
    I have a sequence and trigger(which will fire id for each and every row insert).
    My scenario is, If i update more than 5 rows at a time means, i need to set a same sequence number example(1) for all the 5 rows.
    Next time, if i update another 5 rows means, then i need to set a same sequence number (i.e) 2 for the next 5 rows.
    So, my updation will be dynamic(may be 2 ,5, 10 rows at a time), But i need to set a same sequence number for one of the column for all the rows that i update.
    Next time, if i update another set of rows means, then i need to set only the next sequence number(i.e) 2(assume that previously updated sequence for the before set of rows is 1) for another set of rows.
    Like that sequence has to update in a sequential manner for more than one set of rows in that column.
    How to achieve it friends.
    example
    id-----------------name
    1-------------------A
    1-------------------B
    1-------------------C
    1-------------------D

    2-------------------D

    Hi,
    You forgot to mention your version.
    If you want a trigger based solution, then in 10g you need two triggers
    1. A statement level trigger that takes sequence.nextval into a dummy variable that will not be used.
    2. A for each row trigger that uses sequence.currval.
    In 11g you should be able to write a single, composite trigger.
    If you want a solution with no triggers, it could look something like
    SQL> create sequence s start with 10;
    Sequence created.
    SQL>
    SQL> create or replace function s_wrapped
      2  return number
      3  as
      4     v number;
      5  begin
      6     select s.nextval
      7     into v
      8     from dual;
      9
    10     return v;
    11  end s_wrapped;
    12  /
    Function created.
    SQL> create table tab1 as (Select level x, cast(null as number) y from dual connect by level <= 5);
    Table created.
    SQL> update tab1
      2    set y = (select s_wrapped from dual)
      3   where x <= 3;
    3 rows updated.
    SQL> commit
      2  /
    Commit complete.
    SQL> select *from tab1
      2  /
           X          Y
           1         10
           2         10

  • How to get the number of rows returned by a report?

    Hi,
    I'm developing my first application in APEX and so far everything seems fine, except I can't figure out this very simple thing: I have a report based on a PL/SQL block returning an SQL string. I'd like to have a message (something like "X rows returned") just before the report. The closest thing I could find was "X to Y out of Z" in the pagination styles, but that's not what I want. Also I don't think running the same query to get COUNT() is wise.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Konstantin

    My guess is that it only shows the number of rows it has retrieved. I believe the defailt is for it to only retrieve 50 rows and as you page through your report it retrieves more. So this would just tell you how many rows was retireved, but probably not how many rows the report would contain if you pages to the end. Oracle doesn't really have a notion of total number of rows until the whole result set has been materialized.

  • How to get the number of rows in a repeating frame ?

    Hi all,
    When I launch a report from forms then sometimes there are data in the report and sometimes there are no data. And the problem is that when there are no data then the frame containing the repeating frame is still displaying and a blank page displays on the report.
    So I want to get the number of rows from the repeating frame so that I can code a format trigger on the frame to display or not the enclosing frame depending on the existence of data from the repeating frame.
    Thank you very much indeed.

    Dear Friend,
    You can achieve this. Define a summary column (say cnt). Select summary type as "COUNT". select any one of columns that are getting displayed in your repeating frame as summary column and provide "reset at" group name (or set this to report if you are defining this field at report level) . This "cnt" variable will contain how many records that will be fetched for your repeating frame (i.e. Group of Repeating frame). You can use this "CNT" variable in your format trigger.
    In this case there is no need to write before report trigger or anything.

  • How to get the number of rows in a DB-Cursor

    When i open a database cursor i do not know how much rows are stored in the cursor. To solve this problem i have to send a 'select count(1) ...' to get the number of rows before i set up the cursor. I think that this is not very clever and could possibly cause performance problems. But i need the num of rows to show the percentage of processed rows. Is there any other way to get the num of rows? May be by checking the cursor directly?
    Please help!
    Thanx a lot

    In order to find out how may rows are going to be processed, oracle has to visit every row. So with a cursor, there is no property that will accurately reflect the number of rows until you get to the last one. That said, you could use
    select count(*) over() as row_count, <rest of your columns> FROM <your table>
    which will give you the total row count agaist each row in the result set. There are performance penalties involved but they will be less than issuing the query twice, once to get the count and once to get the rows.
    Have a look on asktom for some very usefull info about all this.

    make your result set scrollable...Not such a good idea. With Oracle, the JDBC driver will read and cache all the ResultSet in memory (with other DBMSs/drivers the behavior will probably be different, but you will still have some unnecessary overhead).
    You can do the caching yourself if you think it's worth it. If the piece of code you posted is why you need this for, then use a List or Vector and you won't need to know the size upfront.
