How to display waveforms as double precision versus seconds in a chart?

I need some help with the following:
I am acquiring several waveforms that I display in charts. I would like to have an option to view data only when I press a button; I would like the new data coming in to append dirrectly to the old data displayed. If I do this with a waveform I cannot append to the old waveform displayed because the points coming is have the time information that will create a gap between old wave and new wave. In simple words is like this: when I turn onn a button data is flowing in my charts until I turn off the button; when I turn on the button again after a time t, the data will flow again on the screen but I will have a gap betweeen the old waveand the new wave of data. The gap is equal with t on the X-axis which displays the time elapsed.
Question is how can I do such that when I turn the button again the data starts to flow at the point where I left it and not after time t?
The problem might be saved by getting y from the waveform and displaying it in a chart? How would I set the X-axis to show me "y" (data) versus seconds?
Anybody has some advice and/or example?
Thank you

Its hard to find the space to run wires all the way to the while loop boundary on these sorts of large block diagrams. It is a little easier to read when you use a feedback node. Do not forget to have an empty waveform with the correct dt plugged into the initializer terminal. I don't see anything on the block diagram that would preclude you from using this method.
There is an "Ignore waveform time stamp on x-axes" setting in the chart properties. I have never played with it, perhaps it will do what you wish...

• How to Display "Zero Value" or "No Data" Items in a Chart

Hello All,
I need to create a chart that displays the number of jobs per hour over a 24 hour period. I can determine the hour the job was created and I have no trouble making a chart with a count of jobs per hour. The problem is that I also want to display the hours that have no jobs on the chart. I am currently converting all hour data to the text format "00:00". For example, 9:35am would display as 09:00 (as would all jobs between 9:00am and 10:00am) and this is the value that I want displayed under each bar on the chart (x axis).
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks V361,
I was hoping to avoid adding a table to the DB with each hour. I thought there might be a tricky way using arrays that I would be able to accomplish the report. I have done a test using Excel and I can get the results that I wanted, so I will now probably add the table to the DB.
Thanks for your input.

• How to display the entire double number without the Exponent

I know this is silly, but please help.
myString ="45.5"
myBytes = Double.parseDouble(myString );
convertedBytes = (myBytes * 1048576.0);
System.out.println(myBytes + "MegaBytes = " + convertedBytes + "Bytes");
prints:
45.5MegaBytes = 4.7710208E7Bytes
How do I output:
45.5MegaBytes = 47710208.0Bytes

Thanks,
I think I am just going to go with
println((int)Math.floor(mydouble + 0.5d));Note:
- you shouldn't cast to an int, we never know (e.g. try with > 2048MB.)
- you could use round(mydouble) instead of (long)floor(mydouble + 0.5d) (both are equivalent, but the first one looks clearer IMHO.)

• How to display a goal line in a Flash 2D Line Chart?

Hello,
I am using Apex 3.0.1 and have a Flash 2d Line Chart displaying a ratio that varies from 1.0 to 1.6 for every month for a year. I need to draw a goal line at 1.2 to show the goal for the ratio. Also, I have grid lines enabled for the y-axis.
Any pointers/tips on how to accomplish displaying this goal line would be really useful.
Thanks and Regards,
Dev

I'm having the same problem!
APEX is relatively new to me. CUSTOM XML for tweaking charts is even more recent. I tried to get a goal line to work in a line chart as you described but I have had no success. I really require a target/goal/reference line in a vertical bar chart but getting it to work in a line chart would be a welcome first step.
I have tried the following 2 samples of code without success:
<objects>
<line value='94' text='Target' text_position='right' color='0xFF3300' size='1' alpha='100'/>
</objects>
and
<objects>
<trend start_value='94' end_value='94' start_argument='' end_argument='' value='' color='0xFF3300' thickness='1' alpha='100'/>
</objects>
==> in the following blocks of the CUSTOM XML:
<chart .....</chart>
<chart..<line_chart .....</line_chart>..</chart>
<workspace> .. <chart_area .....</chart_area> ..</workspace>
<workspace> .. <y_axis .....</y_axis> ..</workspace>
<workspace> .. <grid> ..<values .....</values ..</grid> ..</workspace>
<workspace> .. <grid> .....</grid> ..</workspace>
Any idea where I am going wrong or what could be missing? Maybe I'm not putting the <objects> parameters in the correct place in the code?

I am Trying to Display these Values in Charts (Pie, Line) but i am Not able to Do so. The Graph Shows Blank with No Data.
Could Anybody Suggest me a way to do the Same.
Do i have to Change it to any number or Custom Format ?

• How to display non-continuous lines in a 2D Line flash chart ?

Hi
I am making 2D lines charts. is there a way ig tehre are no data in the table, to not to display points ?
For example I have a table with this data :
Date     Value
01/01/09 2
02/01/09 7
03/01/09 4
05/01/09 3
06/01/09 2You see in the example anove that there is no data for the day 04/01/09.
I would like the chart no to display any point for that day and start again for date following. This means displaying a non-continuous line.
I hope I am clear.
I tried but had no solutions. Would you have any idea on this ?
Thank you for your kind help !

Hi Christian
You're missing a lot of the XML build up from the website.
You also need to return the string "Missing" for each date that you haven't got.
Try this to get you started (you'll certainly need to fiddle with it to get it working)...

• How to display a confirmation message to the second stage approver.

Hi,
I am working on an application which involves 2 stages of serial approvals. After the first stage approval, the request is forwarded to the second stage. When the second stage approver approves the request, the workflow proceeds with the user creation. I would like to let the second stage approver know about the status of user creation after he clicks the approve button. It can be just a simple message saying that the user creation has been successful or unsuccessful.
My question is how is it possible to show this confirmation message to the second stage approver after the user creation process?
I tried to use manual action. But it is not working(probably because the owner of the workflow is different from the second stage approver). Is there any other way to implement this?
thanks,
manoj.

It is really simple to implement, you have to just write another manual action to second supervisor after user creation and pass the result to manual action.
Hoping you are tried to create simple user with out assigning so many resources otherwise it will take time to load.
Please let me know if you face any issue to implement.

• How to display on the graph three or more waveforms where time scale is not an index of array but a real time

How to display on the graph three or more waveforms where time scale is not an index of array but a real time:
I measure three voltages Va, Vb, and Vc on my Test stands every 3sec. So I’m building four arrays (Va, Vb, Vc, Time) and combine all in one.
Time
Va
Vb
Vc
0
5
3.5
2.8
3
4.9
3.6
2.9
6
4.8
3.8
2.1
Now I need to show on the graph in which scale X is “Voltage” and scale Y is “Time”.
How can I do it?
Thanks a lot,

Hi, thanks all your reply.
You may find "points_to_bar_graph.vi" from this website, I find it by this way.
I will ask a stupid question: I don't have any photo processing software, how can I save the vi into a picture format?
So here I just paste it into word document.

• How to display double byte characters with system.out.print?

Hi, I'm a newbie java programmer having trouble to utilize java locale with system io on dos console mode.
Platform is winxp, jvm1.5,
File structure is:
C:\myProg <-root
C:\myProg\test <-package
C:\myProg\test\Run.java
C:\myProg\test\MessageBundle.properties <- default properties
C:\myProg\test\MessageBundle_zh_HK.properties <- localed properties (written in notepad and save as Unicode, window notepad contains BOM)
inside MessageBundle.properties:
test = Hello
inside Message_zh_HK.properties:
test = 喂 //hello in big5 encoding
run.java:
package test;
import java.util.*;
public class Run{
public static void main(String[] args){
Locale locale = new Locale("zh","HK");
ResourceBundle resource =
ResourceBundle.getbundle("test.MessageBundle", locale);
System.out.println(resource.getString("test"));
}//main
}//classwhen run this program, it'll kept diplay "hello" instead of the encoded character...
then when i try run the native2ascii tool against MessageBundle_zh_HK.properties, it starts to display monster characters instead.
Trying to figure out what I did wrong and how to display double byte characters on console.
Thank you.
p.s: while googling, some said dos can only can display ASCII. To demonstrate the dos console is capable of displaying double byte characters, i wrote another helloWorld in chinese using notepad with C# and compile using "csc hello.cs", sure enough, console.write in c# allowed me to display the character I was expecting. Since dos console can print double byte characters, I must be missing something important in this java program.

after google a brunch, I learned that javac (hence java.exe) does not support BOM (byte order mark).
I had to use a diff editor to save my text file as unicode without BOM in order for native2ascii to convert into a ascii file.
Even the property file is in ascii format, I'm still having trouble to display those character in dos console. In fact, I just noticed I can use system.out.println to display double byte character if I embedded the character itself in java source file:
public class Run {
public static void main(String[] args) throws UnsupportedEncodingException{
String msg = "中文"; //double byte character
try{
System.out.println(new String(msg.getBytes("UTF-8")) + " new string");  //this displays fine
catch(Exception e){}
Locale locale = new Locale("zh", "HK");
ResourceBundle resource = ResourceBundle.getBundle("test.MessagesBundle", locale);
System.out.println(resource.getString("Hey")); //this will display weird characterso it seems like to me that I must did something wrong in the process of creating properties file from unicode text file...

• How to display dynamic datas and double datas (chart)

Hi all !
I would like to display dynamic datas and double datas by using charts.

Can you help me to fix that ?

Hi John,
the sine looks like it should look with your VI!
You convert the DDT to a scalar DBL. That conversion will only use the first sample of the generated sine waveform - usually this is always the same (offset) value when you generate full periods… Or to put it in a mathematical expression: sin(0°)+4 = 4!
When you want to display waveform you should work with waveforms!
Actually, I have used Dynamic data type in order to simulate an signal.
Well, I also simulated a signal in my example VI. I didn't use any ExpressVI to do so…
In a few weeks, I will receive a sensor. I will use in LabView 'DAQ Assistant' whose the ouput is a Dynamic Data.
Nobody forces you to use the DAQAssistent ExpressVI. There are nice DAQmx functions available and LabVIEW comes with a lot of ready-to-use example VIs…
That's why, I used in first place, the 'Simulate signal'. So I think I should keep Dynamic Data Type
I do think you don't need to use the DDT. I think it's better to understand what is going on in your VI. And I think the DDT will be no help for you…

• How to display two waveforms in one waveform chart?

hellow!anyone can tell me how to display two waveform together in one waveform chart? thanks!

Hello,
An easy way to tell how to make multi-plot charts and graphs is to hold your mouse over the chart/graph terminal on the block diagram and make sure Context Help (Help >> Show Context Help) is enabled. This screen will tell you how to connect the indicator for a multiple-plot display.
You might want to take a look at my attached screenshots of a working multi-plot chart.

• How does buffer size affect double buffered waveform generation?

I had originally posted the following question:
"Why does the double buffered waveform generation pause after the first buffer before continuing?"
"I am using an AT-AO-10 board to generate a multiple channel waveform in double buffered mode. The board's DAC's are updated by an external clock signal. While the waveform generation performs well, I notice that after the first buffer has been generated there is a time delay before the next buffer is output. However the second buffer and thereafter perform well without any time delays. If anyone can provide me an explanation on why this happens I would appreciate it. I am using NI-DAQ API functions to generate the waveforms and my settings for the WFM_DB_Config function are 1 for oldDataStop to disallow regeneration of data and 0 for partialTransferStop to not stop when a half buffer is partially transferred."
-posted by Vadi on 6/7/2001
I received a response from Geneva as follows:
Geneva L. on 6/11/2001 says:
"Vadi,
The first thing is to make sure that you have the latest version of NI-DAQ installed, NI-DAQ 6.9.1. If you need to install it, make sure you completely uninstall any prior versions. Then, you will have examples installed in either the NI-DAQ or the CVI directory. In the AO directory, you should find the WFMdoubleBuf example.
Start with that to make sure the output appears as you expect. Then, you can modify it to apply your external update clock, following the idea presented in the WFMsingleBufExtUpdate example. You might even want to double-check that your external clock acts as you expect using an oscilloscope.
Finally, modify the example such that you can update on multiple channels, remembering that you interleave each channels buffer into one buffer for WFM_DB_Transfer. Whatever data is in the buffer will be updated on the output channels.
Regards,
Geneva L.
Applications Engineer
National Instruments"
I have checked my version of NI-DAQ and it is 6.9.1. I am generating the double buffered waveform according to the format shown in WFMdoubleBuf and with some modifications from WFMsingleBufExtUpdate to allow me to use my external update clock. However I continue to notice the same phenomena again and again. For a buffer size of 7500 or 10000 points there is a time lag meaning after the first buffer has been output there is a noticeable time delay before the second buffer and buffers there after is output. This time lag doesn't exist for the buffers that are output after the first buffer but it does exist for the first buffer. When I decrease the buffer size down to 5000 points the time lag disappears (Note: this phenomena also occurs when I use an internal time base as opposed to my external clock). Is there a reason for this? I am using a AT-AO-10 board and I know the on board FIFO is 1024 points deep. However from the documentation provided it doesn't indicate that double buffered mode uses the on board FIFO at all. In fact, the functions require that the FIFO mode be turned off (in WFM_Load) for double buffered waveform generation. Is there a reason why when the buffer size is increased that there is a time lag after the first buffer? Is this because of the functions themselves or is this because of the AT-AO-10 board?

Vadi,
Make sure that your buffer size is set to the same number of points that you're actually writing to the buffer initially. For instance, if you run the example as-is, the NIDAQMakeBuffer puts exactly the ulCount amount of data into the buffer. Then, it continuously writes out half buffers. Thus, if you are not writing enough data to fill up the buffer the first time, there will be that lag until the section where half buffers are output.
