How to divide footnotes over two pages?

Im typesetting a book with hundreds of (sometimes long) footnotes. I want a rule above the first footnote of the page. I also want footnotes to divide over two pages, if necessary. I had no problems with this in CS4 (but maybe the circumstances were different). Now I'm using CS5.
Problem one: when there are more footnote references in the same paragraph at the bottom of the page, all the footnotes go to the next page, even when there is enough space for at least part of the first footnote. I have a workaround for it (only leave the first footnote reference in that paragraph, move the other references to somewhere on the next page, setting the text color to none, and put fake references on the original positions), but that's not ideal. Am I overlooking something?
Problem two: I set the rule dividing body text and footnotes to 0,3 pt an 40 pt length. With a footnote split over two pages, this goes well for the first page, but on the second page there now is a thick, much longer line (the system standard rule for footnotes?). This problem didn't occur in CS4. Anyone knows whether this will be fixed? Suggestions for a workaround? Or did I do something wrong?

Thanks for your answer.
First problem: I checked this, there is no difference when I uncheck the Keep Lines Together option. As for the Keep with Next option, I couldn't even imagine what would happen with 700 footnotes... Anyway, using the trick I mentioned solves the problem (the first footnote in the paragraph splits correctly over two pages).
Second problem: Strange - I have a Dutch language version and I can't find anything that resembles what you mention (see the image). As you see, there is a dropdown for the usual First baseline options and one for Line above (Lijn boven). In the latter you can only choose between "only a line above the first footnote" (my choice) or "above all footnotes (vervolgvoetnoten)".
Is this different from the English dialog box?

  • Footnotes on two pages, word division

In order to typeset a document, I need to divide footnotes on two pages. Is it possible in Pages? Is it also possible to disable automatic adjustment of spaces between characters? Pages seem to avoid the necessity to separate words, however, it is unpractical when typesetting a book, for example.
    Any help much appreciated.

Hi, Peter. Thanks a lot for the help. I would want to turn of kerning because sometimes it widens the distance between letter on one line in such a way that it is isn't nice. Especially after internet quotations which are handled as one word, you often get one word at the beginning of the line and one at the end with a huge gap in between (text in block).
The fact that I cannot split footnotes forces me to either (a) use Word (unfortunate) or a professional typesetting programme (such as Adobe Indesing). I wanted to avoid either possibility but it seems now I cannot.
    Thanks, though,
    Martin

  • Can a footnote be spread over two pages

I dislike having footnotes always keeping together in a block, and shifting to the page following the footnote reference marker in the text. (And it is very problematic to fix this for each individual case especially over a book of 900 pages.) Is there any way of allowing a footnote in FM10 to break over two pages, as in standard wordprocessing packages like Word and Wordperfect?

Not the answer you want, but it’s a categorical “no”.
You might manage a work-around using a separate text-flow and cross-references, but the built-in footnote function doesn’t allow footnotes to be split.

  • Trying to expand form over two pages

    Hi,
I'm trying to finish up a Purchase Order form that I've been working on sporadically for the last couple months... (which probably isn't helping me much because I'm forgetting what I've done and haven't done.)
Right now the form is only one page but we need it to be able to expand on to two pages if necessary.  I believe I have it saved as a dynamic form.  (I'm going to try to figure out how to attach the file so you can see what I've been up to.)
I want the table to be able to expand... (you'll see an add item button - but I've never been able to get it to work.)  I've been lurking these forums and trying to copy samples... but with no success.  The detail cells are set up that I can get multiple lines so that works.
I think I've got the form to work that as the cells expand everything flows down the page properly... the problem is that the subsequent information just dissapears rather than go onto another page.  I can't figure out how to fix that for the life of me.   If anyone can help... it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

You would need to also select "allow page breaks within content" for each subform that you want to allow to break across pages, i.e. your table subform and any other expanding subforms unless of course you have a section that has to stay together. You nearly had it from the start, just missing a couple checkboxes on the subforms.

  • How do I split a table over two pages in Pages?

    Hi
I'm trying to split a table in Pages so that the text in the two adjacent rows will fall on two separate pages but I cannot find a way to do this. This was something that is easy to do if using MS Word so I can't believe it would be a feature missing from Pages?
The document I'm working with is my resume and I had my jobs nicely formatted in a long table so it was easy to work with (job title, dates, achievements etc. in different cells). Since updating to Yosemite and Pages 5.5 I've noticed that I now have my career summary and 'Professional Experience' title on the first page but the table with all my job information is now starting on the second page - leaving just a lot of blank space on the first page. One of the jobs on the second page now also splits across pages 2 and 3. I can see that it is trying to keep everything in the table together and that what I need to do is just split the table at a certain point so that I can put the first part of the table back onto page 1 and the second part of it on page 2 - but it won't give me any option to do this.
    Any ideas?

Although this thread is several months old, I felt compelled to reply as I have just encountered this gaping hole in Pages functionality.  Jerrold Green 1 is incorrect in asserting that the OP's problem is that Pages won't split a cell across pages.  The OP clearly indicates that Pages is not moving rows that won't fit on the first page of the table, but rather it moves the whole table to the next page.
So for example, if I have a paragraph of text at the top of page 1, and then insert a table under this paragraph that contains more rows than will fit on the remainder of the page, rather than the rows that won't fit being moved to page 2, Pages moves the entire table to page 2 leaving a big blank space on page 1.  But bizarrely if the table contains more rows than will fit on one whole page, then it will move the overflow rows onto the third page, making you wonder why it didn't just do this on page 1.
This is with the table arrangement set to Move with Text.  If I set it to Stay on Page, the end of the table just flows over the footer and off the page into oblivion.  If I set Text Wrap to None, it just plonks the table right on top of the other text.  So it gives you the option to do something silly, but not the most sensible option.
If I am missing something, then can someone please correct me.  Without this basic functionality Pages cannot be considered a professional Word Processor.  I'll unfortunately have to go back to MS Word.

  • How to divide consgroup in two?

I want to divide one consgroup
    Group
    Comp1
    Comp2
    CompN
    into 2 new:
    Group2
    Comp1
    Comp2
    and
    Group3
    Comp3
    Comp4
    CompN
    Year - 2008.
    Which steps should I do?
I have created two new groups already and added companies to them. P/L reports (on this new groups) seems to be right. But balance is not - looks like there are no initial amounts (Jan 2008). How to correct this?

    Hi mikesm,
You should create these new cons groups and then use the organizational change functionnality (compare BCS standard Documentation) to transfer the existing companies from the old to the new cons groups.
Treat the new companies like normal acquisitions.
    Hope it helps

  • Anyone know how I can print a two page weekly view from ical

    Hi there.
I'm trying to print (from my ical) a weekly view into a Franklin planner page. i would like to print a week into two (side by side) 5x8 pages. Anyone have any idea? Can the iplanner app do this?
    Thanks!

After playing with the settings, it doesn't look like that's possible.
My thought is that you could try the 8x10 size and cut it in half. But since you probably don't have 8x10 paper lying around, you could try doing it as a PDF.
Try this: (Mac OSX Leopard only)
Set up your print options in iCal, choose the 8x10 paper size, and press "Continue." Then, instead of choosing "Print," click "PDF" and "Open PDF in Preview."
From here, you could print it on regular letter size, and trim it down for your book. Or photocopy it onto your 5x8 paper.
I know that's not ideal, but you know, it's an option.

  • How to pass values between two pages

    also see:
In portlets, how to use a html form passing  values to the another page?
    and
    htmlFormActionLink() method
in common B/S developing, use html link add with a parameter or some parameters or we can submit it in a form to post values to another page .but how to do these in portal?
I tried to write the code, but couldn't run at all!
the provider.xml is still no problem!
would you be so kind as to help me ?
    thanks!

    Hi Ravi,
            Using the call
    navigation->set_parameter( name='myparameter' value = myvalue ).
you can set the page parameter myparameter to the value myvalue. This value can then be used for processing in the subsequent page.
If the form field (in the layout part) and the page parameter are of the type string and are specified by the same name (in this case, myparameter), the following abbreviation can be used:
    navigation->set_parameter( 'myparameter' ).
Using the set_parameter you can pass only the parameters of type string. If you wish to pass more set of values then you can call a method and then export the values of the drop down.
    Pls reward if useful.
    Thanks.

  • How do I transfer over my Pages program and all its files to my new mac?

I recently bought a macbook air and would like to continue to use my Pages program that I have been using on my old Macbook pro. Does anyone know if I can redownload it from the Apple store without having to pay or if there is another way I can access the program and all my old files?
    Thanks!

The Apple Store is not the same as the Mac App Store, which is what I think KarenSelena is referring to when she says "Apps store." So, the question is, did you buy a retail box or a license for a downloaded trial of iWork '09 or did you buy the individual apps from the Mac App Store?
If you did buy Pages from the Mac App Store you can go to the "purchases" section of the App Store.app & download it again using the same Apple ID as before.

          rs.close();--------------------------------------
it does not show anything! in the output! i tried many things but i thing it is not supporting my multiple table syntax , i.e.: table1,table2 in teh from clause.
    please help!
i just need to filter stuff from the shisab table and write the filtered data into
    the myhisab table.

Your problem isn't in the Java code, it's your SQL code...
Your statement, as submitted, is an improperly formed multi-table select, where you never joined the second table. That won't work.
You need to look into the INSERT INTO statement. The exact syntax of your statement will depend on whether or not both tables contain the exact same column names, etc. A generic example based on what you have might look like:
INSERT INTO myhisab SELECT * FROM shisab WHERE Who_Bought = 'ron'HTH

  • Report with two pages

    hi all
I am designing a report which has two pages , i completed first page, i need to insert second page
how to design report with two pages
    Thanks in advance
    Krish

    Hi,
Usually, any report automatically adjusts its page numbers as per the quantity of data that needs to be displayed. However, if your specific requirement is to show certain data on one page and the remaining on another then you can simply insert a group on a valid field.
Following is some information from the Crystal Reports Online Help menu:
    New Page After:
    - When the End of Section check box is selected, the program inserts a page break after the section.
    - The Page Header and Page Footer appear on each page.
    - Use New Page After in the Group footer section to print each group on a separate page.
May be, if this is not what you are looking for then please elaborate on the report design/data

  • Stretching a photo over 2 pages

I am using the Brochures, Program template and i want to stretch a photo over two pages, can I do this?

Pages does not do "spreads", you will have to position half the text/image on 2 adjacent pages using metrics to align the halves.

When I run the cursor over a template it shows several pages but when i select the document it only brings up the first two pages to edit. How do I see them all?

Skimming the templates in the Template Chooser shows you all of the pages available in the template once you open it. You can insert the one(s) you want, even more than one of any of them. Most users don't want or need all of the different pages, especially when they start the document.

  • How do I run a table over multiple pages?

Hi I write TV scripts using a simple two column table which can be many rows long - how can I get Pages to automatically run the table over multiple pages whilst still allowing me to cut and paste and rearrange the script? This is simple in Word and must work in pages but I can't work out how to get it to work. I've tried looking at the Page Break feature but it won't come up from the table?
    many thanks

At this time, There is no way to drive tables in Pages with AppleScript.
Do your job in Numbers which allow that.
