How to do profiling for Java 1.6... (JVMTI-based profiler)

As Java1.6 uses JVMTI instead of JVMPI, I am not able to find an open source tool which can profile my application. Can some body help me to find a tool or pugin for eclipse(TPTP is trying to fix it in coming 4.5 release) or Netbeans.

Does jmap and jhat meet your requirement? I found them very useful, even better than some commercial tools.

  • How to create reports for java programs?

    Hi,
I have planned to do a project using java, that will help to create reports for java programs. To create reports for java programs i used two options.
    1)Crystal reports
2)Write the code to produce reports for each java programs
The second one little cumbersome.SO i planned to develop a software that is compatible for creating java reports.
I would like to know how i will do the project? Can you help me to made it a successful project.Hope you can help me.
    Expecting your reply
    PreethiRenjith

    Uggg... Crystal reports...
I would personally write a generic report generator, It would probably be easier than fighting w/
crystal reports (CR is popular, but painful :) )
Anyhow, I've written report generators for many different applications. It is one of the simplest projects you
can take on, and the results make you feel special --
If your need nicely formated, portable, printable reports, you could have your report generator make PDF files (the format is open, and VERY simple, plus people like pdf files) you can get the pdf spec from adobe or from wotsit.org (the famous wotsit file format archive).
    enjoy!

  • How to learn webdynpro for java/ABAP

    hI Experts,
i am new to webdynpro technology.
and i am having the knowlgedge on Portal contenet development&administration, and having the strong knowledge on Visual composer7.0,7.1 and also trined in ABAP(currently i am not useing it).
now i wants to learn webdynpro for java/abap.
is it right choice i am taking ? i.e moving to Webdynrpo for java/abap.
what are the minimun skills i need to be a good webdynpro developer for java/ABAP. ?
is it requires straong java knowledge since i am not familiar with that too much ?
    please give your valuable inputs
    Thanks&Regards,
    Govindu

SAP uses Webdynpro to build portal content, which later will be configuted as an Iview in the enterprise portal. Webdynpro comes with Java and ABAP flavors. Both have in general the same functionality, the decision for one of the two flavors shall be based on organizational and business circumstances, but not on functionality.
If you are good in ABAP go with ABAP Webdynpro, if you are good in JAVA, go with JAVA Webdynpro. But you will get good opportunities in JAVA Webdynpro compare to ABAP Webdynpro.
    Thanks,
    Chenna.

  • How to setup Proxy for Java Web Start App ?

I'm having trouble getting Java Web Start to work.
    at... http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/14start/compile.html
    It tell me...
To test whether your browser can launch an application using Java Web Start, click this link.
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorialJWS/uiswing/14start/example-1dot4/HelloJWS.jnlp
I do that & see Java Web Start try to start but get message...
Java Web Start - Invalid Argument
    Unable to launch specified application
An error occurred while launching/running the application.
    Category: Invalid Argument error
    Could not load file/URL specified: C:\Documents and Settings\Will\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\OP8RSBCV\HelloJWS[1].jnlp
    Then... http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/information/javawebstart.html tells me...
"This situation usually happens when your browser and your copy of Java Web Start have different proxy settings."
I click Start | Programs | Java Web Start | Java Web Start,,, then click File | Preferences | General
My choices are... Proxies: None   User Browser _ Manual (User Browser grayed out)
If _ Manual checked then I get...
    HTTP Proxy ______
    HTTP Port _______
I'm running XP Pro via Wi Fi to a Linksys Wi Fi router to a cable modem... I'm also running Zone Alarm (tried turning it off but no luck)
I don't know how to set up the Proxy stuff... can any one please help me get this set up.
    thanks - Will

OK, on my XP Pro system I went to...
Start IE -> Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Connections -> Lan Settings -> Proxy Settings
This is my 'Local Area network (LAN) Settings panel...
    - user Proxy server for LAN is checked
    - Address is blank
    - Port is blank
So do I plug something in here... the ip address of my linksys wi-fi router and a port number or what?
My Java Web Start Preferences won't let me click 'Use Browser' only None or Manual
If I click Manual, I don't know what to plug into the HTTP Proxy and HTTP Port fields...
I tried the ip address of my router... thinking it may have a built in Proxy Server... and port 8080 as indicated by the Help page for the Java Web Start... but no luck.
I really appriceate any help on this...
    thanks - Will

  • How to prepare device for Java?

    Hey Gang,
Newbie question for ya.....been working with Java for a few years, but am new to J2ME and mobile device programming.
GOAL: Get HelloWorld to work on my IPAQ 3765.
My head is literally swirling from the number of FAQ's, readme's, tutorials, install notes....etc, that I have been reading. A few small things are still alluding me.
    I believe I correctly understand:
    1) I have the wireless toolkit installed and used Sun's Wireless Development Tutorial to rig up a sample app (also toyed with the SunONE mobile app a bit).
    2) I will have to install either the JRE that came with the IPAQ CD (Jeode?) or move PersonalJava to my Program Files dir on the IPAQ.
    3) Download Swing, fix bug (due to using JDK1.1.8) and bring that over to the IPAQ.
    4) Only use a maximum of JDK1.1.8 to develop to assure not using things the JRE's can't use.
Here's the part I can not find: What result do I move over from the Wireless Toolkit to the IPAQ to run? The *.jad file? The *.jar file? (I am assuming the later). And then with the CLASSPATH set on the IPAQ to the <jre install>/bin dir, I should be able to click the jar or jad file for it to run and see HelloWorld?
Is there a tutorial I am not seeing for this part? I've seen info on how to set up a development environment on my desktop, and that I need a JRE on the mobile device (obviously). I can't find what I need to do to the mobile device to launch a java app.
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Rob,
Were you able to get java w/swing running on the IPAQ?
I am about to face the same problem-- I would like to be able to write simple swing-based java apps on the IPAQ 39xx.

  • How to enable logging for Java Web Start on Java 6.

I'm trying to get logging working in Java Web Start from Java 6. In previous versions I was able to specify a log file in the Java Web Star control panel (or whatever it was called) , but I can't work out what to do in the Java 6 version of JWS. I've checked the docs and searched the forums here and on java.net but haven't been able to find anything.
Does anybody know how I can get this working?
    Cheers
    Stephen.

Sorry, I was in a hurry and didn't read your e-mail properly. Note: This is a thread in a public forum, not email.
If it were email, it would be a private conversation,
between you, me and whoever we add to the addess
list. ..and you would be paying consulatnacy fees for
    my participation.
On the public forum, it can be seen by anybody, and
    I don't send you a bill.
And on that note, when asking for free advice on
public forums, please read replies carefully (I
might ask the same of a consultancy client, but
since thay are paying by the email - it is really
    their own choice).
..the problem is that I can't find where the log file
is being written. Do you know where it writes to?..
I understand it is specified in the logging.properties
in the lib of the JRE/JDK. E.G. several locations
    for my current system..
    C:/Program Files/Java/j2re1.5.0/lib/logging.properties
    C:/Program Files/Java/j2sdk1.5.0/jre/lib/logging.properties
    C:/Program Files/Java/j2re1.6.0/jre/lib/logging.properties
