How to dynamically display in Image Field with external pic source

Hi Guys,
I have the following scenario:
I need to have a form that needs to display an x amount of images on the same page area. I have not found any documention with regards to creating an undisclosed number of Image Field elements, so I am experimenting with using a Table to display entries of type Image Field.
I do not know at design time which pictures will be shown in this table. This needs to be calculated dynamically when an Incident Number is supplied to the Java WebDynpro application that uses Adobe LiveCycle Designer (Dont worry about this).
Now, first of all: Is it possible to use the URL of images that are OUTSIDE the form structure? In other words, usually one would imbed the image in the forms structure, but because I do not know this image's URL at design time I need to pass it dynamically? Please comment!
Also, what is the FormCalc syntax for accessing a field in the "Data View" view at the left side of the designer? For example, If i want to access the following part in the "Data View"view, what syntax should I be entering in the script editor:
I would like to access this value as I would like to append it to the end of this statement so that I can get the value dynamically:

You cannot change the url of the image on the fly for security reasons.
In your case you have to use the dynamic image fields in the xdp form, encode the external images with base64 encoding to be a string, populate with those strings the xml and render your template with this xml.

thanks Denes for your posting. I'm trying to use the Denes Kubicek code to populate a "Display as Text" field. It works for Text Field (disabled), but not "Display as Text" field(saves state) . this works fine on normal page, except page zero. I have the AJAX select list and "Display as Text" field on page zero. The "Display as Text" field doesn't show the the value when AJAX select is changed. I'm using similar code as used in my other APEX page on OTN site. I tired to display the gReturn value, just before calling "setDisplayOnlyNode" function in the code below and it's showing correct value, but fails to display the value in the APEX field on page zero. Any ideas are appreciated.

Displaying thumbnail images inline with a report

Hi,
I have a table with data and one column which is a text image filename. This image file resides on another server. I currently have a cgi that takes the image filename as a parameter and returns the image be viewed in a browser. I've been able to create a report where the image file name was a hyperlink that opens the image in the browser. I've also been able to create a static html page that can display the image inline with the APEX page, but the html is hardcoded.
My desire is to have the thumbnail appear inline with the report in its own column. Is this possible? I've seen it in some demos, but the images were stored in the database or the database servers filesystem.

In the interactive report attribute, I set the "DISPLAY TEXT AS" for PIC_LINK as "Standard Report Column"
If you are using XDB, you need to re-copy you images(This part I don't like) to database every time you change/add/delete an image.
If you are using HTTP server, then that it is.
I am looking for a way to dynamically show the thumbnail with providing an image file in APEX. So,that I don't have to use 2 files

How to make a list item field with DATE data type?

I have a column with DATE data type. Using forms 6i I want to generate a poplist list item field with this column while the value of the elements in the list to will be day names like SATURDAY,SUNDAY,MONDAY. if we change the data type from date to char, it will work properly but now with DATE data type behind it, it gives the following error message

Set your date column as a hidden (non-displayed) field. Create your list item with the varchar2 day names. Create the list item as a non-base-table field that accepts the text values of day names. On that field, create a when-validate-item trigger that translates the text into a real date, which it then uses to set the value of the actual base-table item.

Image display - How do I display an image using an absolute path?

How do I display an image using an absolute path in a compiled WebHelp?
Our developers use RH8 map IDs within our in-house applications to display in a model window created using Telerik Rad Window.
Unfortunately images disappear from these model windows because RoboHelp removes absolute links to [inserted] images and changes them to relative in the compiled WebHelp.
How do we overcome this? Is there a solution in RH8?

I have tried again and changed the path in the topic HTML

I am obviously unable to see it in RH8 as I have removed the relative link so it is "outside" of the project.
This time, on compilation, it has not stripped out the absolute links. The developer was working with me on this last week and we did have any issue in that they did not hold the absolute link. Most odd!
Checking the published help it appears to be working in the application, which is great.
So my apologies for raising the issue but it really did not work last week.

How can I display the vendor associated with result of my running total sum

I have a report that lists vendors with their most vecent order dates. I need to set up a rotation so that the vendor with the latest order date is next to be selected. I used the running total summary to pick the latest date. How can I display the vendor associated with result of my running total summary?

If your "latest" order date means the "oldest" order date, why don't you try this:
Go to Report tab -> Record Sort Expert -> Choose your order date in ascending order
This will make your oldest order your first record shown.
You can then create a running total count for each record.
Lastly, in your section expert under conditional suppress X+2 formula, write this:
{#CountRecords}>1
The result will only show the oldest record in your report.

The only difference in the two is that in the second, I use a java variable to set the flash Variables. The variable I use is <%= flashVars %>?? which is equal to: &MM_ComponentVersion=1&skinName=Halo_Skin_3&streamName=movies/Video2&autoPlay=false&autoRe wind=false
When I view the resulting page source code after building and running the site, The source code is exactly the same for both of them yet one works and one doesn't.?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've been searching google all day to figure this one out. I'm not simply trying to play a video, I can already do that... I'm retrieving the location of the video from the database and trying to pass it as an argument to the player, no different than if I was dynamically displaying an image or some text. Another option is that you have a trigger on table NOTES that generates a new note_id even for an update.

If you have configured a fileport where on trigger of IDOC you are creating the file, you can look at the message type documentation and get the offset values for each field in each segment

Hi Pankaj,
There are no limitations of external data you can bring into BW and visualise in the SPM UI - you can expose custom bex queries as "datasources" in the user interface, and these can show anything you like. Its just a question about what makes sense to show in SPM.

I have new hard drive in macbook pro(08) and have SATA cable with external power source to old hard drive (10.5.8)via. USB port and newer drive(10.6.8) will not recognize older drive..Do I need to partition newer drive with older disk to recover data?

I have new HD 750GB Hybrid in 2008 Macbook Pro 17" w/ Snow Leopard 10.6.8 connected to old Hard drive(250GB that had 10.5.8 on it at time of failure) via SATA cable to USB port with external power source.. Computer not acknowledging old HD at all in Disk Utility or otherwise (that I'm aware of)..Do I need to partition New HD and load old(10.5.8) onto partition to recognize older drive for data recovery? You do not need to load 10.5.8 onto your new drive in order for a 10.6.8 system to see the contents of a 10.5.8 system.

They also sell a product named Phoenix that can do OS extraction and volume copying/cloning, but to be honest I don't know if it's appropriate in this case.
I would suggest the following:
Open up Terminal.app (under utilities) and type "diskutil list" without the quotes. This is the command line version of Disk Utility. If the external drive doesn't show up at all, then it's likely not connected properly, not getting power, or just plain dead. If it shows up with only a devce name like disk0s16 but no volume it means the drive is seen, the OS just can't make sense of it.
Assuming the drive shows up, I would try to boot off the original installl disks for the system and run Disk Utility from that. I'm assuming the drive will show up. You'll want to select the option to repair the drive and then perform the option to repair the permissions.
If the unit isn't showing up, as per step 1, try a different USB port. More importantly with your unit, try it on another side of the unit if possible. If you read the book I referenced above, some of those units have I/O boards that are separated from the logic board. If the cable from the logic board to the I/O card goes bad or has problems, which isn't all that uncommon, some or all of the ports on the I/O card may appear to be bad as well. If you use a USB port on another side, it would be routing out of a completely different I/O path, so that's a potential problem.
If the drive is only seen with a device name such as disk0s16, it's likely either the index files are corrupt beyond Disk Utility's ability to see them. The only thing that I think would help would be a product named DIsk Warrior, but I can't guarantee that.

The company that I linked in the first link above also makes a product named Scannerz that does HD and system testing. The Scannerz/Disk Warrior combination make a good pair because the complement each other....Scannerz does what Disk Warriror can't and Disk Warrior does what Scannerz can't. However, at this point I'm not too sure getting a tool like Scannerz would be of much use because it sounds like the damage has already been done.
Let us know what happens.
