How to edit registry using recovery console or dos

Hello everybody!
Due to some reason (virus) the value of  - "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon - Shell " was changed so I repaired it with Explorer.exe. But  due to some spelling mistake now I can log in in Win Xp. When the user log in screen appears and I choose the account its automatically logOff and return to the User Log in screen.
Now I have to repair the spelling mistake in registry key.
Please inform How can I do this. I can't log in so I can't use "Regedit". Can it is possible to edit the registry using recovery console?
Thanks & regards
nitin

Step 1
Type "cd %systemroot%/system32/" into the command prompt to go to the folder that contains the Registry Editor.
Step 2
Type "reg" into the command prompt to display a list of parameters and instructions on how to edit the system registry.
Step 3
Type "reg [parameter] /?", replacing "[parameter]" with one of the listed parameters, into the command prompt to list all available functions that can be used with that parameter.
Step 4
Type "reg [parameter] [function]" into the command line, but replace "[parameter]" with one of the listed parameters (query, add, delete, copy, etc.) and "[function]" with a function listed above, along with any additional options
for each function. For example, to delete a registry key, type "reg delete [rootkey]\[keyname]", replacing the "[rootkey]\[keyname]" text with the location of the registry key.
Step 5
Save a registry key by typing "reg save [rootkey]\[keyname] [filename].hiv", where the "[rootkey]" and "[keyname]" text are the location and name of the registry file and "[filename]" is the name of the file to which
you are saving the key.
Step 6
Restore a registry key by typing "reg restore [rootkey]\[keyname] [filename].hiv", where the "[rootkey]" and "[keyname]" text are the location and key name that you want to restore and "[filename]" is the name of the
file containing the saved key.
Step 7
Import a "REG" file by typing "reg import [filename].reg". To export a registry key to a "REG" file, type "reg export [rootkey]\[keyname] [filename].hiv", where the "[rootkey]" and "[keyname]" text
are the location and key name that you want to export and "[filename]" is the name of the "REG" file you are exporting.

Hi, original poster here. I did not realize this would generate more discussion so I never checked back. I still had my warranty, so I took it to the store and got it repaired. The original problem I had was a screen with this icon flashing when I attempted to boot it up:
When I took it to the store, they told me that my computer was unable to communicate with the hard drive. I had this same problem three times in two months where this screen reappeared. Each time I went back to the store and they said the cause was different, but they were all hardware issues that physically made it impossible to communicate with the hard drive. After the third time, they simply replaced my laptop and I haven't had the same problem.
So in short: The reason you can't reinstall or move anything when you encounter this screen appears to be because nothing can communicate with the hard drive in the first place. You can't reach the disk or anything on it. So I don't believe it's possible to do anything besides take it to a physical store and have it fixed.

  • Re: How to access the Windows Recovery Console?

How can I access the Windows Recovery Console. The Microsoft KBs state that it can be accessessed from booting with the OS DVD. However you don't supply OS DVD only the Toshiba Recovery Disks. When I boot these it only gives the option to erase all data and restore to original state.
    I have a Toshiba Qosmio F10 running Windows 7 32bit.
The reason I need the recovery console is due to a chkdsk failure that has now lead to it running everytime I boot and hanging each time. Other MS Articals say I can get out of this endless loop by using the Windows Recovery Console.

Windows 7 was preinstalled soemwhere on HDD when I purchased it new in June 2010. All I had to do was selcet 32bit or 64bit the first time it ran. I then took the option to create recovery media (which burned 4 dVDs). However the only option using these dvds is to run install which the screen states will erase all data and reinstall as supplied from the factory.
I need to get to some form of access the the HDD which means I need to stop chkdsk running at startup everytime it boots and then hanging every time. I can't access sfae mode either. I need to abort chkdsk get into either a command prompt or windows so I can run other utitlies to check the HDD.

  • How to edit data using a LOV list AND textfield for one Field

I am trying to edit the templated edit from HTMLDB template when I create a new table. I implemented most of the fields with LOV list like yes/no, joe/bob/john etc. But some fields as many probably have seen have a LOV called "Other" where a person types a different value than the ones available. Can someone tell me how I can accomplish that? Do I need to insert "Other" into LOV and have it be set as the value in the textfield? I am not sure how i can create both LOV list and textfield per category/field i.e. Name.
    Thanks

Again, I urge you to use HTML DB nomenclature to describe what you've done. For example: "I ran the Form on a Table wizard to create a form" Rather than using the word "template" for everything you describe. "Template" has a specific meaning in HTML DB and it is not what you are referring to.
You really should invest the time required to accurately phrase your problem. Just like answering questions on this forum requires time, so does formulating your question. It is time well spent and it is effort on your part that the experts on this forum deserve. If you don't put in this effort and instead just post a stream of consciousness, that means the readers of this forum will gloss over your question and ignore it. As a result, you have to ask the question again...and again.
Having said that, if I understand your question correctly, you should use a popup LOV item. This will allow the user to select from a list but will also allow typing of a non existent option into a text field.

  • How to repair disk using Recovery HD

I just did a repair permissions and verify disk and got the following message:
Disk Utility stopped verifying "Macintosh HD." This disk needs to be repaired using the Recovery HD. Restart your computer, holding down the command key and the R key until you see the Apple logo. When the OS X Utilities window appears, choose Disk Utility. The volume Macintosh HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.
This might be a stupid question, but:  Following the instructions above, is that procedure the "Recovery HD," or is that an actual disk that I'm supposed to have? What do I do when I go to Disk Utility?
    I have a MacBook Pro 13-inch, mid 2010, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, with a replaced (May 2014) 500 GB hard drive, OS X Mavericks 10.9.5.
    Many thanks!!!

Thanks for your quick reply and advice!
I will try that and hopefully that'll fix it.

  • How to edit xml using AS3

I want to edit xml file on run time dynamically using AS3
Plzzzzzzzz if it possible send the tutorials links or sample script.

Flash player 10 has support for accessing local system file. This can be done using the FileReference class. You can browse a loca file, rad it and then save it back. But at the time of saving, the user is prompted to choose a location for saving the file.
Else you can use some server side technology with your app to read and write files.

  • How to lauch Win XP Recovery Console from M30x recovery media?

I'm getting an error message on startup to the effect that the windows\system32\config/system file is missing or corrupt. Obviously I can't startup! It also says to hit 'r' on the first screen of the recovery procedure- but such an option isn't ON the first screen of the recovery disk, and since there's a lot of crucial (and unbacked up- this thing belongs to my parents..) stuff on it, I can't risk accidentally going into reformat mode. Then again, it's been a long time since I've done this- is it possible to reinstall windows without documents being affected? Unfortunately we only have the OEM copy of XP, not a proper disk.

Unfortunately, the Toshiba recovery CD is not the same as a original Windows CD from the Microsoft.
The recovery CD contains only a ghost image files. If you will boot up from the Recovery CD the whole HDD will be erased.
If you have created a several partitions you can use a expert mode to install the OS on a single partition. Then only this partition will be deleted.

  • Cannot Access Recovery Console on U205-S5002 Win XP SP3

I can only get BSOD UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME, STOP 0x000000ED (0x........, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) errors, when I reboot. It does not matter which startup option I pick. When I try the recovery CD, the only options seem like they will wipe out all my data. How do I access the recovery console? Thanks.

    Satellite U205-S5002
    Bug Check 0xED: UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
That's the best BSOD. I've recovered from that error several times by running chkdsk /r from the Recovery Console. See KB555302 and KB297185.
Two ways to reach the Recovery Console:
    1. Beg, borrow, buy, or steal a Windows XP installation CD.
    2. Attach an appropriate floppy drive and download the necessary images.

  • How to edit contacts in Unified Contact Store in outlook or owa for users who use Attendand Console?

    Hi all,
We have Lync server 2013 with Exchange server 2013 and "Unified Contact Store" configured and working. unfortunately our reception staff who use the Attendant Console are unable to edit their contact list (this is normal as 2010 clients do not
    support UCS).
According to Microsoft notes that I have read we should be able to edit the UCS contact lists in OWA, Outlook, or Lync 2013. I can get reception staff who normally use Attendant Console (AC) log in to Lync 2013, arrange their contacts then go back to AC
    - this works fine.
However as reception staff already have outlook, I would like to enable these users to be able to edit their contact lists in outlook or OWA. Does anyone know how to do this? I can't find any contact list in outlook that relates to the contact lists
    in Lync.
    Simon.

    Hi,
For deploying Unified Contact Store, the users must log in with Lync 2013 at least once.
