How to enable OCR with Scangear MP under Linux for MG8250?

Under Linux openSUSE 12.3 I use Scangear MP 1.80 for my Canon PIXMA MG8250.
As a scan target (in my German GUI it's "Ziel") I can choose "OCR". But there is no text output, the scan is just saved as a picture. How can I configure Scangear to open the scan via Tesseract in a text editor.
By the way, the target "Print" (in German "Drucken") leads to saving just as well, though there is at least one printer at hand, of course.
It's a pity that the pixma scan drivers that are shipped with openSUSE don't work with xsane (the scanner starts working, but stops after one third of the page). Using xsane with a different scanner I can use OCR successfully.

There are two basic types of core OCR algorithm, which may produce a ranked list of candidate characters.
Matrix matching involves comparing an image to a stored glyph on a pixel-by-pixel basis; it is also known as "pattern matching" or "pattern recognition". This relies on the input glyph being correctly isolated from the rest of the image, and on the stored glyph being in a similar font and at the same scale. This technique works best with typewritten text and does not work well when new fonts are encountered. This is the technique the early physical photocell-based OCR implemented, rather directly.
Feature extraction decomposes glyphs into "features" like lines, closed loops, line direction, and line intersections. These are compared with an abstract vector-like representation of a character, which might reduce to one or more glyph prototypes. General techniques of feature detection in computer vision are applicable to this type of OCR, which is commonly seen in "intelligent" handwriting recognition and indeed most modern OCR software. Nearest neighbour classifiers such as the k-nearest neighbors algorithm are used to compare image features with stored glyph features and choose the nearest match.
Software such as Cuneiform and Tesseract use a two-pass approach to character recognition. The second pass is known as "adaptive recognition" and uses the letter shapes recognized with high confidence on the first pass to better recognize the remaining letters on the second pass. This is advantageous for unusual fonts or low-quality scans where the font is distorted.
So I wonder which kind of OCR algorithm are you using?

    Use an app called chameleon ssd optimizer.
    I enabled trim with it after almost a year of having installed a Samsung 840 pro SSD and my read/write speeds almost quadrupled.
    I would definite;y advise using it even though Samsung SSD's come with there own garbage disposal.
    Hope that helps.

  • Problem with inifile.fp under Linux

    Hello all,
    I noticed a problem with inifile.fp under Linux: I can't write the updated
    ini file !
    hConfigFile = Ini_New(0);
    if (Ini_ReadFromFile (hConfigFile, ConfigPath));
    Ini_GetInt(hConfigFile, "Client", "ChartsRefreshRate", &ChartsRefreshRate);
    Ini_GetInt(hConfigFile, "Client", "ChartsDuration", &ChartsDuration);
    .... Change the values ...
    Ini_PutInt(hConfigFile, "Client", "ChartsRefreshRate", ChartsRefreshRate);
    Ini_PutInt(hConfigFile, "Client", "ChartsDuration", ChartsDuration);
    if (0!=(Err=Ini_WriteToFile (hConfigFile, ConfigPath)))
    fprintf(stderr, "\nWarning: problem writing %s configuration files: %s",
    ConfigPath, GetUILErrorString(Err));
    This fails and displays:
    Warning: problem writing Config.ini configuration files: File not found
    But not only that, it also deletes the ConfigPath file !!!
    Which is rather unacceptable !
    I see that the inifile.fp I have on the PC (CVI 8.5) is different than the
    one I have on the Linux install (cvicc 8.0). Can I copy all the inifile.*
    files to Linux or is it more complicated than that ?

    Hello Luis,
    I came here to check if a new version of CVI (cvicc, not the real-time
    module) for Linux had come out and, sadly, it appears that's still not the
    case...
    But I saw your followup to our original discussion.
    The ini file has grown tremendously since then, but I think I had the
    problem with even the most basic file: simple name (same directory, no
    path), but maybe it was on an NFS directory (that's no longer the case).
    Also the fact that instead of writting _in_ the file (where permission was
    allowed) you wrote to a temp file (that may not have had permission) and
    then renamed accordingly...
    I'll start a new project soon that will require ini files, so I'll test it
    again.

  • [Troubleshoot] MSI Gaming 7 ~ How to enable XMP with HyperX Fury RAM?

    Hi folks,
    First time posting here and new to the MSI brand with a Gaming 7 and  MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G GPU. They are quite awesome so far.
    Anyway, I'm also new to the intel world after using AMD chips for the past number of years and I am wondering what is this buzz about XMP profiles? My new RAM sticks support XMP according to their website. But I'm not sure how to enable them in the UEFI Bios. Videos show that there should be a button right above the GENIE OC but I dont see one. Can someone help me understand how to enable it?
    Spec info:
    Intel 4790k
    Gaming 7 Motherboard
    HyperX Fury RAM, 2x8GB (16GB) 1866mhz
    EDIT: I cannot share external links but if you search xmp hyperx certifications you'll see that the RAM is XMP ready.
    Thanks!

    but if you set your mem settings to auto, it should pick up 1866 speed from SPD
    Check with CPU-Z
    Such is not possible. Programmed SPD settings to be used depend on the abilities of the memory controller (here means the cpu) used. The maximum specified memory support of an i7 4790K is DDR3 and DDR3L 1333/1600 (http://ark.intel.com/products/80807/Intel-Core-i7-4790K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4_40-GHz). It is therefor impossible to run memory without an XMP extension (like the Fury sticks) on the platform in question above ddr3 1600 without setting speeds and timings manually.

  • How to enable OCR on an HP1050A

    Can HP give access to a free driver that can enable me to use OCR on the HP1050A?
    Rather foolishly, when I bought the all in one printer, I assumed that all new(er) HP models would have this function enabled . Just out of interest - any professionals know why OCR is not standard on all HP printers. Thanks, aefc

    You don't enable OCR in any printer, it is software... and free too.
    Search the web for Free OCR and OCR to Word.  These work great.

  • How to use DAQ as a soundcard under linux

    Hi,
    My goal is to use a pci-4461 as a high accuracy replacement for a soundcard in a linux environment. The programming language should be C.
    I have already looked at the examples that come with the linux driver but my problem is how to exchange the audio data with other applications in real time.
    My other application is a softphone for IP-telephony that normally uses the /dev/dsp device under linux to exchange sound with the soundcard. (This can be changed to another device from within the softphone). Now, I want the softphone to read from and write to the DAQ instead of the soundcard. So the DAQ should be configured for continous analog input and output and give the data to the softphone in real time.
    Do you have any ideas how to do that with the nidaq-C-functions?
    Thank you for your help

    Hi,
    Ok edit .cshrc file in your root dir, and add a line
    set CLASSPATH=( pkg_a pkg_b pkg_c . )
    this should work, if not try a few different configurations on the command line like infact try this first then edit your .cshrc file

  • How do I speak with someone from tech support for a issue??????

    I have tried many times to download the correct software for my HP OfficeJet 7410 printer. I always get a error message. "THE SYSTEM CAN NOT FIND THE FILE SPECIFIED". ("C:\Users\R61\AppData\Local\Temp\7z611S7\Setup\..\Setup\Blocksysus...) What is that???. Their wesite is of no value to help me. In frustration, then I tried to buy the driver software. Again, they could not help. I used to be able to print. Using their website, I was able to test print and test scan. All is well with that, so why can I not print? I have two other computers that are connected and print fine. My laptop will not print. It used too. Why are my downloads of the correct software not allowing the install of software?

    JDMAN
    The problem is likely one having to do with a previous installation failure or a minor corruption - a misplaced instruction, a bad link, something in the File System on the computer that is not where it belongs.
    Regardless, the issue is not likely the fault of the Full Feature Software.  That does not mean the computer is bad, it means that there is situation present on the computer that the normal installation program cannot handle.  Programs are smart, but there is a limit to what can be done during a standard installation.

  • Problems with Weblogic6.0 Under Linux

    Hi,
    I have been having this weird problem with weblogic 6.0 under linux.
    I have WL6.0 installed on Redhat Linux 7.2 ( the 2.4 Kernel).
    I start the WL server on Linux and my bean deploys successfully,
    however I have a client bean on an NT box which tries to do a lookup
    on the bean which resides on the Linux box.
    I know that I get the initial context, because on the server side I
    see the IP address being added to its client list , but as soon as I
    try to do a lookup I get the error message
    "Connection refused ..... etc....."
    However , if I start the WL server on the NT box from where my client
    bean resides, (and leave WL server running on Linux) everything works
    fine , and I can reference the object.
    This leads me to think that the following is happening :
    The client actually connects the WL server on Linux looking for the
    relevant stub classes etc.. but the WL server on Linux tells the
    client to look for them else where , ie the machine from where it came
    (in this case the NT machine)
    This explains why when the WL server on NT is running all works fine ,
    because the client goes back to the machine from where it came (NT
    machine) and in this case the WL server is running so it can deal with
    its requests !!
    Running the client and server on Linux works fine and I can also run
    the same code between NT machines and Solaris machines. As soon as I
    introduce the Linux machine into the equation , I start getting this.
    Any help , ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • How can I increase the storage capacity in Linux for installing Oracle 11g?

    Hi all,
    I've been searching in Internet information about how to increase the storage capacity of a Linux machine, so that it can help me with my problem without success. I tried to execute some command lines encountered in some tips in forums, but no one works.
    I want to install an Oracle 11g database, which needs 4 GB minimal for the installation. I can not continue with the installation because of this problem.
    I use a VMWare virtual machine, which I increased over its settings to 160 GB, but not its file systems or whatever in the machine.
    I did this:
    [root@localhost ~]# df -h
    Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/sda3 18G 15G 1.9G 89% /
    /dev/sda1 190M 12M 169M 7% /boot
    none 506M 0 506M 0% /dev/shm
    /dev/hdc 699M 0 699M 100% /media/cdrom
    As far I understand the bigger storage capacity is used by the file system /dev/sda3. But what about the rest, I mean the 140 GB?. I've already increased the storage capacity over the settings. How can I tell the machine "please use the remaining 140 GB for the installation of the Oracle DB and other needed installations?.
    How can I increase here what?. Disk? File system? Volume Group? It can not be so difficult, can it?
    There are no volume groups in the machine:
    +[root@localhost /]# vgdisplay+
    +No volume groups found+
    Linux is too complicated. Unfortunately I have to do that in Linux :-(
    Can someone help me? I sit here since long hours without finding a solution :-(

    thanks for your answers.
    To Dude:
    You can address the problem in a number of different ways, but please post your version of Linux and provide more information about your current partitions
    The Version of Linux is Linux Red Hat Enterprise 5.
    Open Logical Volume Management from the System Administration menu.
    Select your volume from the logical view, edit properties and then use the slider to set your volume size, or click "remaining" to extend your partition.
    I've already opened the LVM from the System Administration menu, but there is no possibility to see the volume groups, because there is no one. There is no tabs like Volume Groups or something like that...
    I would try the procedure described above your answer and write you again. I hope it works...I will write you back in a few minutes...

  • Any issues with using LDAP on LINUX for GRC 5.2 UME?

    Our company is converting our LDAP servers from AIX to LINUX.  The DNS name used in our UME connection should not change.  Are there any issues with using LDAP on LINUX?  We are currently on GRC 5.2 SP9 (in the middle of upgrading to SP12).
    Also, I have been trying to connect our test UME system to a test LDAP box that has already been converted to LINUX but keep getting a 'connection failed' error when I try to test it.
    Do you have to reboot the server to test changing the LDAP connections?  I've been trying it by going into UME, pulling up the LDAP tab, hitting the Modify button, entering the new userid and password for test LDAP, and hitting the Test Connection button.  I've verified that this userid and password is correct for test LDAP.
    Is there a way to get more information about why the connection failed?
    Thanks.

    I've been told by our LDAP Support group that none of the other configuration settings should have to be changed.  I should only have to change the id and password to connect to a test version of LDAP instead of our regular connection to the production LDAP.
    Can you test a connection for a different userid/password without having to reboot/restart the server?  Do I need to change these two settings, save then, reboot/restart, and then do the Test Connection button?
    Thanks.
