How to enable the logs in applets

Question

I have a signed jar which uses commons-logging all the logs are in debug mode how to set the debug on to view the logs in the java console.
i have tried the following things
jre/log properties is set to debug
applet debug is set to true
there is a SimpleLogFactory class which extends the Log Factory class.. i have set the levels to 2 here for debug mode
i am still not able to see the log.debug statements.

i have tried doing setting the run time params as well it does not work:(
i can see the applet debug but the applet calls other classes which uses log.debug stmts i am not able to see those debugs
in the init mrthod of my applet i have
