How to escape sql keywords

Hi,
I have this query which runs perfectly fine in sql
TextSelect Upper(SubString(f_name,1,1)) +
SubString(f_name,2,Len(f_name)) fname from xxx order by fname
But when I run this through coldfusion cfquery tagI get a
error "SubString. Incorrect Select List,".
I believe this error bcz coldfusion has the keyword substring
too.
Is there any way to escape the sql keywords and execute the
query.I tried [ ] but it escapes only tables and fieldnames not
this.
Ty for ur help..
Regards
AL

I suggest baby steps.
start with
select substring(f_name, 1, 1) fname
from yourtable
then this
select substring(f_name, 1, 1) fname, len(f_name) thelength
from yourtable
and keep adding to your query until it crashes. By the way,
don't you have to quote your alias names in ms sql? I rarely use it
so I don't know for sure.

    if a single quotes exist in a dynamic sql clause for a string,
    like

    there tabtype='table' will conflict with the single quote ahead.
    could somebody tell me how to escape this single quotes?
    thanks for your tips,

    fredrick,
    To represent one single quotation mark within a literal, enter two single quotation marks. For example :
    v_string :='select tname from tab where tabtype=''table'''

  • How do you use Keywords?

    I'm curious how you use Keywords. I started to go into my pictures today and add them. I went first to the first Event I had and looked for any pictures of my kids. I was going to make my Keywords pretty broad. If they were aged 0 - 5, then that was my Keyword. But, then I had a picture of a brother and a sister, where the brother was 8 and the sister was 4. What to do? Then I changed it from 0-5 to 0-10. I've tagged about 300 of them that way, but now I'm wondering if it's worth the time. I know I can also use multiple Keywords, but that just seems to be a lot of work.
    For reference, I name all my pictures when I input them. I use the following format: name of person - event (if pertinent) - town - year, so that might come out as Chip - Halloween - Golden - '08. That way, I find it pretty easy to find whatever I might be looking for.
    Do you use Keywords? If so, how?
    Thanks.
    Chip

    The BEST system of keywording is the system you will actually execute. So your priority should be figuring out what you are willing and happy to do on a fairly regular basis.
    Since it already sounds like your system is a hassle, I don't know that your keyword needs to reflect the age---you can easily search on KW: Kids and Date Range: (whatever the young years would be) after the fact, and save yourself trouble while tagging. Or set that up as a Smart Album, and then once you've done the "okay when the kid was 0-4 that would be the dates 1990-1994", you don't need to do it again.
    Certainly, though, you should be open to multiple keywords on the same photo--that's the power of keywords, to categorize the same photo in multiple aspects.
    I don't bother naming my photos, but unlike TD, I create a lot of smaller events and name them pretty carefully, similar to your photo names. I use keywords for recurring themes, like Me, Family, Friends, Rivers, Flowers, or places I visit multiple times. Things with a beginning and ending, I lean on the event name to track, eg "Christmas Eve, Christmas--Opening Gifts, Christmas--Dinner, Christmas--Hanging Out".
    I find it very important to use the shortcuts, so that I can skim through 300 pix from a national park and just hit f to apply the Family keyword, m to apply the Me keyword, w for pictures of water, l for pictures of flowers, etc. (The keyword pane must be open to use the shortcuts)
    I tend to set up a smart album based on a keyword about the same time I set up a keyword, so that the list of smart albums helps me remember what I am doing with keywords. Also, thinking in terms of which albums you want to be browsing helps figure out how you need to keyword the photos--when your relatives or friends come over, what do you want to show them?

  • How do I transfer keywords in Lightroom from one computer to another?

    How do I transfer keywords in Lightroom from one computer to another?

    You know, in the one screen capture, from the old computer, we can see that the photo has the keyword "bees"
    In the other screen capture, from the new computer, we cannot see the keyword "bees"
    And better yet, show us the Keywording Panel instead of the Keyword List Panel
    I am also concerned that you are showing us the original catalog on the new computer that you created via importing the photos. That's not what we want to see.
    So please confirm  that you are using the catalog file that was copied from the old computer, and when placed on the new computer, you double-clicked on that exact catalog file, and then created the screen capture. Please confirm that you are NOT looking at the catalog you created by importing the photos.

  • Keyword management - how do you move keywords up one level?

    How do you move keywords up one level in the hierarchy? Sometimes when working quickly, keywords and subgroups of keywords get inadvertently highlighted and moved as a child under another keyword or group. I can't figure out how to move them back out again to the root level.

    I can't figure out how to move them back out again to the root level.
    You can drag and drop sub keywords to other locations higher or lower in the nested folder but you don't seem able to drag from sub level to root level.
    The easiest workaround would be to have a regular Back up of the list (pop menu from icon top right keyword panel: export keywords) and when not having added new words just use clear and import the back up to restore.
    If you did edit the list you can choose to export current list and with a simple text editor make the changes for keywords and sub keywords you want, save and then use again clear and import to retrieve the correct list.

    Hi Sandra,
    First of all thaks for your quick answer to my problem.
    I see what you mean and get the same result, if I am using data-type string instead of xstring. But the recommendation in the XML-Books of SAP is to use XSTRING to save memory and circumflex problems between Codepages, when writing the XML-Stream to a filesystem.
    As you can see in the code abvoe I am using a SAP-FM to display the XML-Stream and this FM works only with XSTRING´s,
    that is one reason why I don´t understand that it displays it in the wrong way.
    Even the Debugger shows me for the XSTRING the wrong result. Does all that mean that the escaping will not be applyed if you are working with XSTING´s??

  • How to escape % or % in a String?

    Hi, friends, I need to use a string variable, but don't know how to escape <% and %> in string, I tried to put \ between < and %, but compiler said it was invalid escape character. and do I need to escape / , too? thanks for any help. the code is here:
    <% String sc;
    if (request.getParameter("operation")==null) {
    sr="/servlet/littleBee_proj.Change_PCServlet?red=<%= request.getParameter("red")%>&
    green=<%= request.getParameter("green")%>&blue=<%= request.getParameter("blue") %>&
    applique.x=<%= request.getParameter("applique.x") %>&
    applique.y=<%= request.getParameter("applique.y") %>";
    else {
    sr="/servlet/littleBee_proj.Change_PCServlet?red=<%= request.getParameter("red") %>&
    green=%= request.getParameter("green") %>&blue=<%= request.getParameter("blue") %>&
    applique.x=<%= request.getParameter("applique.x") %>&applique.y=<%= request.getParameter("applique.y") %>&
    operation=<%= request.getParameter("operation") %>";
    %>
    <br> <INPUT TYPE="IMAGE" NAME="applique" SRC="<%= sr %>" >
    </FORM>
    </BLOCKQUOTE>

    You won't need the escape characters, because you don't need the <% and %>. You're already inside a java block, so go ahead and take advantage of it. Simply append the method call to your string as you usually would.
    <% String sc;
    if (request.getParameter("operation")==null) {
    sr="/servlet/littleBee_proj.Change_PCServlet?red="+request.getParameter("red")
    +"&green="+request.getParameter("green")+"&blue="+ request.getParameter("blue")
    +"&applique.x="+ request.getParameter("applique.x") +"&applique.y="
    +request.getParameter("applique.y");
    }Also, unless you know exactly what you're getting back from your request.getParameter() methods, it's usually a good idea to enclose them with single quotes ( ' ) in case there's a space or something in there. If there guaranteed to be numeric though, then you're probably ok.

  • How to restore SQL Server 2008 database to SQL Server Express 2012

    How to restore SQL Server 2008 database to SQL Server Express 2012.
    I BACKED UP a SQL Server 2008 database from work, which runs the enterprise version of 2008, and I tried to RESTORE it to my new 64-Bit home PC which is running the new SQL Server Express 2012 64-Bit (Advanced Edition).
    But if fails. I get the following message text.
    Can anyone help me please. I thought restoring a 2008 database to the later version 2012 would be possible.
    Here is the error message. Thanks.
    TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
    Restore of database failed. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.RelationalEngineTasks)
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
    System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The database was backed up on a server running version 8.00.2039. That version is incompatible with this server, which is running version 11.00.3128. Either restore the database on a server that supports the backup, or use a

    backup, or use a backup that is compatible with this server. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoExtended)
    Are you sure your database is SQL server 2008 from error message it seems your SQL server version is 2000.I guess you have multiple versions of SQL server.
    AFAIK you cannot restore backup of SQL server 2000 to 2012 directly .Restore it first to SQL 2008/2008R2 or 2005 then take backup again of new database created and then you would be able to restore it on 2012.Its kind of intermediate way
    Also make sure your DB size is less than 10 G as max DB size supported by Express edition is 10 G and if your DB size is more than 10 G restore will fail.
    You are also trying to restore enterprise DB backup on express edition so you will loose enterprise features on express edition

  • How to move SQL database from one location to another location i.e. from C' drive to D' drive

    Hi, How to move SQL database from one location to another location i.e. from C' drive to D' drive ? please share some link.
    Thanks and Regards, Rangnath Mali

    Hi Rangnath,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to move databased from C drive to D drive.
    You can detach Database so that the files become independent, cut and paste the files from source to destination and attach again.
