How to extract MP3 soundtrack from QuickTime "movie"?

This is probably an elementary question, but I haven't been able to figure it out: I have several QuickTime "movies" (.mov files) that are actually nothing but MP3 soundtracks; when I played them on the Web, they opened in Safari with a QuickTime player, from which I saved them to my computer. When I look at the file's "properties" in QT, there is only the MP3 file plus a QT "wrapper". I'd like to extract the MP3 file, and throw away the wrapper, so I'd have an MP3 file like any other. "Save As" will save the whole thing with another name, while "Export" offers to create sound files as AIFF, AU or WAV, but no way to just pull out the MP3. Is there some way to do this?

+What is the reason you need to make it .mp3?+
No special reason, just compulsive tidiness; since it isn't really a movie but an MP3 file anyway, I'd like to get rid of the .mov "wrapper".
+QuickTime Player Pro was never licensed to export to the .mp3 file extension.+
Well, "export" isn't what I'm looking for; I just want to remove the superfluous wrapper.
+It appears now that only an AAC conversion can be done.+
The "Create XXX Version" command changes according to what you have set in Preferences: CD Import Settings, I believe. But again, I don't want to re-encode it or export it, just take the wrapper off the MP3 file that's already there. I did a Google search but found nothing; apparently there's no way to do it, which seems odd.
Anyway, thanks.

  • How to export still frame from Quicktime movie?

    Hello folks
I often need to use a still frame from a quicktime movie as an image file to work with in PhotoShop for windows.
If I export a frame via the export command and choose "Movie to picture" I end up with a .pct file, that Photoshop will not open.
I can open the .pct file with the Quicktime PictureViewer and then export it from that app as i.e. a JPEG-file, but I would like to avoid that extra step and just export a usable file straight from QT.
Anybody know how that can be done?
    Best regards
    Kris

Same problem here - no matter whether I choose Photo - JPEG or PNG format as the "compressor", QT 7 Pro wants to save with a .pct extension, and changing it to .jpg or .png extension fails to open.
The two workarounds I've found are:
    1. Save it in Photo - JPEG or PNG format with a .pct extension, open with Photoshop CS4 or below, save to desired format.
One may be able to accomplish the same using Preview instead of Photoshop, but on my Snow Leopard machine I get the error "The PICT file format is not supported in 64-bit mode. Try selecting "Open in 32 Bit Mode" in the Finder's info window for Preview." and I don't feel like bothering to do this.
    2. Use Grab to take a screenshot, copy into Preview, crop as necessary and save to desired format.
Which is easier depends on whether you feel like having to do precision cropping or not. Totally agree with above commenters - whither PICT, Apple?

  • How to extract MP3 from movie???

OK, this one has me stumped.
I have a QuickTime movie that contains JUST an MP3 soundtrack. Using QT Pro, I can extract and save it (but not as MP3). Then, I can use iTunes and import either the original movie or the extracted track in the Library (both work).
BUT....it does not work right! It does not stram to Airport Express. What is different between a "normal" MP3 file and this MP3 converted from a movie file??
How can I make it "streamable to AE"?
Why doesn't QT Pro just offer an export to MP3?
    Thanks.

Exporting or converting to the ancient .mp3 format via QuickTime Pro requires license agreements (and royalty payments) that the Apple developers decided not to include.
End of that argument. I hope.
The .mov "container" can play back many different formats. An .mp3 inside the .mov container will play. But it will have the .mov file extension.
Drag the .mov to iTunes and use your personal conversions settings to append the .mp3 extension. Delete the .mov file from your iTunes Library once the conversion is complete.
The same logic applies to QuickTime Player's ability to play MPEG-1 but not allow conversion of audio. MPEG-2 (the same muxed formats in larger dimensions) is the same.
In many cases one can just change the file extension from .mov to .mp3 and confirm the change.

    2LIS_03_BX- Initial Stock/Material stock
    2LIS_03_BF - Material movements
2LIS_03_UM - Revaluations/Find the price of the stock
The first DataSource (2LIS_03_BX) is used to extract an opening stock balance on a
detailed level (material, plant, storage location and so on). At this moment, the opening
stock is the operative stock in the source system. "At this moment" is the point in time at
which the statistical setup ran for DataSource 2LIS_03_BX. (This is because no
documents are to be posted during this run and so the stock does not change during this
run, as we will see below). It is not possible to choose a key date freely.
The second DataSource (2LIS_03_BF) is used to extract the material movements into
the BW system. This DataSource provides the data as material documents (MCMSEG
    structure).
The third of the above DataSources (2LIS_03_UM) contains data from valuated
revaluations in Financial Accounting (document BSEG). This data is required to update
valuated stock changes for the calculated stock balance in the BW. This information is
not required in many situations as it is often only the quantities that are of importance.
This DataSource only describes financial accounting processes, not logistical ones. In
other words, only the stock value is changed here, no changes are made to the
quantities. Everything that is subsequently mentioned here about the upload sequence
and compression regarding DataSource 2LIS_03_BF also applies to this DataSource.
This means a detailed description is not required for the revaluation DataSource.

  • How can I replace soundtrack in QT7 movie by other one?

    Hi There,
I am trying to replace soundtrack from one movie by other soundtrack of better quality al in the same movie. How it can be done in QT7? And can I adjust it some video does not overlap audio? I am experimenting with movie properties window but I can't drag and drop new soundtrack there.

I'm not sure that I will ever understand why anyone who is not intimately familiar with the internal workings of iSync would ever want to do this - just to be able to see a more desirable icon appear - but, that said, here is how to do it:
Rename a copy of your tiff file: SET610.tiff
First, make a copy of iSync. No, really. [The process of reinstalling and updating iSync 2 is rather painful.]
Control-click on iSync and select Show Package Contents, then navigate this path…
    Contents:Plugins:ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice:Contents:PlugIns:PhoneModelsSync.p honeplugin:Contents:Resources
There - in the Resources folder - you will find the SET610.tiff file to replace.

  • MP3 importing as Quicktime Movies? Huh?

Knowing my luck, the answer to this question is elementary, and I'm a cosmic dork. But please be generous and bear with me.
When I download MP3s directly from a web page (ie, www.blahblah.com/blah.MP3), I save them to my desktop, then import them into iTunes. But why-oh-why does iTunes then transform the MP3 into a Quicktime Movie? I lose important ID3 information when this happens.
I'd obviously like to keep the music in MP3 format.
Is there a setting that I can modify/turn off? I've peeked at my Quicktime Pro and iTunes prefs, and can't find anything obvious to change.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
    Mac mini 1.25   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   Running iTunes 6.0.2 & QuickTime Pro 7

    Chris--
This started happening when iTunes got the ability to play videos. The easiest way to prevent this happening is to avoid saving the MP3 from the browser window when the QuickTime browser plugin is loaded. Instead, back up a page and control-click (or right click if you have a multi-button mouse) and choose "Download Linked File to Disk" from the pop-up menu.
The "Save as Source..." menu item in the QT browser saves the file with the wrong type and creator codes, fooling iTunes into thinking it's a movie file.
I've posted a more complete explanation, along with an AppleScript that can be used to change the type and creator codes for a few files at once, instead of one at a time.
