How to find Client Character set?

Hi,
I need to connect to remote database which is having different character set than the client. Ia there any method to display client character and Database character set from SQL Plus? Could someone please help me.
Thanks in Advance
Sree.

I guess you're using PL/SQL Developer?
(because I get that warning message too ;) )
The warning also continues with:
You can set the client character set thought the NLS_LANG environment variable or the NLS_LANG registry key.
If I execute some scripts from client (client character set WE8MSWIN1252 and database character set UTF8) will
it cause any problem? It depends on what kind of data you're loading/importing. (chinese characters for example)
I never had any problems at all, since I'm not using 'exotic' characters.

  • How to change the Character Set from AL32UTF8 to WE8DEC

    Hello!!
I want to know how to change the character set in the database from AL32UTF8 to WE8DEC.
I tried to use the comand ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET but I got an error because WE8DEC is not a superset of AL32UTF8.
I need to import tables from a server that uses WE8DEC. So when I do the import to my server, wich has AL32UTF8 , I can't import the rows that include an Ñ.
So I want to change the caracter set to WE8DEC. How can I do it?
Is it needed to change the language configuration? The remote server has AMERICAN_AMERICA, and my server has MEXICAN SPANISH_MEXICO (both uses text in spanish).
    Thanks a lot!!

When you export from WE8DEC server what did you use
for NLS_LANG char set? And when importing?
The export was done in another computer because I can't do the export in the server (I have 10g, and the remote server has 9i and the export is not working). In my server, when I tried to do the import, the NS_LANG value was MEXICAN SPANISH_MEXICO.WE8MSWIN1252.
When I try to import to my database I got the error:
import done in WE8DEC character set and AL16UTF16 NCHAR character set
import server uses AL32UTF8 character set (possible charset conversion)
export client uses WE8MSWIN1252 character set (possible charset conversion)

  • How to handle national character set datatypes in oracle?

    Hi
Can anyone tell me how to handle national character set datatypes in oracle?
    Thanks in advance

And for data manipulation, append "N" the literal values being used in the command.
The "N" indicates that the string is to be treated as Unicode Text.
    For Example: insert into TableName (ColumnName) values (N'ValueToBeInserted');

  • How can i change character set on forms9i runtime?

    Hi Every Body,
    i am a user on forms9i developer.
i want to know how can i change character set definition when i run a form on web(with oc4j).
is it any JAR file or another file that i can change display of characters on forms9i runtime on web?
    thanks a lot.

    hi frank,
thanks a lot for your attention.
i have a problem on persian language.
whereas oracle dosn't support persian(farsi) language,
i use arabic character set for simulation.
in oracle developer6i (forms) i had no problem about displaying farsi fonts on runtime.
but in forms9i that runs forms on web(java applet) i can't use farsi fonts correctly.
for example when i type a word(boilerplate text) on farsi language in form builder i can see it correctly but when i run my forms on web , characters of that word have some displacement.
i want to know that is there any configuration file for solving this problem?
    thanks a lot.
    be successful.

FORM user_command USING ucomm TYPE sy-ucomm
                        selfield TYPE slis_selfield.

            MESSAGE text-000 TYPE 'W'.

i used this code using this. using this code my program goes to FB03 tc but it don't shows the data of BELNR what i was clicked. it always shows first BELNR no. in the table. plz anyone help me for this..
the  SET PARAMETER ID 'FBAS'  i m using is right? if not plz suggest me how to find out correct one?

    Hi Vicky,
To know the Parameter Id of any field in a transaction ,
you just press F1 onthe particular field then in technical settings under Field data
you can see the PARMATER ID.
So if you check like this you can see 'BLN' as parameter id for Document number in FB03
    transaction

  • Oracle 11g Installation How to select Database Character Set

    Hi,
I am Installing oracle 11g R2. After installation I had verified the character set it was AL16UTF16 but I wants to set AL32UTF8 charater set at the time of oracle installation only. I can't see the character set setting opetion at the time of installation because I am selecting the installation option " Install database softerware only" and after installation of oracle software manually I am creating the database. Please help me how can I set the character set at the time of oracle installation or at the time of database creation.
    My question is-
How can I set the AL32UTF8 character set in above scenario?
Why It is showing AL16UTF16 character set even I did not define any thing?

  • How to get the character set which i want it to be?

i confront a problem, when using jdbc to connect to oracle8i database on solaris; because i use getBinaryStream() to read from db in "byte" reading, seemly it would use default character set on OS or database(such as EUC,etc.), not which the client i want it to be. is there anyway to take control of such code writing(i mean to change the character set when i get byte out of database, thus the byte would use NLS_LANG the same as using sqlplus setting in user env)?

First of all read Note 581312 - Oracle database: licensing restrictions:
As of point 3, it follows that direct access to the Oracle database is only allowed for tools from the areas of system administration and monitoring. If other software is used, the following actions, among other things, are therefore forbidden at database level:
    Creating database users
    Create database objects
    Querying/changing/creating data in the database
Using ODBC or other SAP external access methods
Are you trying this on the database server itself? If yes, then you need to install the hebrew codepages as well as hebrew fonts in order to display the data correctly.

  • How to define the character set of an outbound EDI batch in BizTalk 2010?

I have some EDIFACT files with a character set of UNOC though lowercase strings and umlaute should be allowed. These files should be batched in an outbound EDIFACT file. But the batching orchestration of the related send port throws some validation errors.
If I convert the strings to uppercase characters everything's working fine. So it seems that the outbound batching orchestration uses the UNOA character set internally for the validation of the EDIFACT files...
How can I change the character set of the outbound batching orchestration in BizTalk 2010? No settings found regarding the character set of outbound batching orchestration in the party and agreement configuration so far. Thank you

    Hi Philipp,
To define a character set in EDIFACT,
UNA segment is used. After defining see, How Validation of an EDI Interchange Is Configured and Outbound

  • How to include different Character Sets in Flex AIR project

    Hi All,
    Flex, AIR(Desktop) Project.
    PROBLEM Scenario:
My Application needs a path from Windows registry, So I am launching a .cmd file using Native Process API.
As a result I get a text file with the path.
So, everything works fine(reading/writing), but if the path contains different languages like Korean, Chinese then the READING OPERATION IS FAILED only when I install the application. It works fine while debugging.
(By failing I mean its not getting the characters, its printing some junk values.)
I am using readMultibyte & writeMultibyte APIs, and I am assiging the character set dynamically as per the OS language. (Which is Enslish in current scenario)
    FINDING:
I installed Windows with Korean Language on a system, so now if I build the .exe on this machine then it works fine. So, i guess its not able to get the Korean Character set from the English OS, thats why it failed in earlier case.
Is there any way to include different character sets in a Flex project?
    Regards,
    Mayank

Some loaded SWFs may not be compatible with Flex.  Try making a simpler SWF (like one that just draws a circle where you click) and see if it can be loaded and interacted with.

  • How to change the character set?

Platform is win2000 and oracle 8.17. I need to write data in Bulragian. Automatic character converter in oracle didn't work! Database is created already!
Is there any function in pl/sql or Java that can convert character set in cl8mswin1251? When I read the data from database there are only ?????
    Thank you in advance!

I'm not sure what you're asking here. "Will it be ok" for what?
    Assuming
    - you read the chapter I linked to,
    - ran the character set scanner,
    - the character set scanner indicated that all your existing data is properly encoded ISO 8859-1
    - the character set scanner indicated that all the ISO 8859-1 data could be converted to Windows-1252
    - all the national character set data was properly encoded in whatever national character set the database had
    - you did the export properly
    - you did the import properly
    - your client NLS_LANG settings are all correct
then sure, everything should be OK.
If you skipped one of these steps, I would again strongly encourage you to read the chapter I linked to originally as well as the Metalink article others have pointed you to.
