How to find culprid of high SYS CPU % ?
Does anyone know a command to find the culprid of a high CPU utilization of kernel syscalls?
My actual SYS CPU usage is over twice the USR value and I think this not normal.
Thanks in advance,
HJ.
i am curious. have u been reading the details off your process manager or through ps -ef or pgrep?
but i do agree, that sounds alittle strange for any process to be taking up so much.

How to find which query taking more cpu
Hi,
How to find which query taking more CPU
at a particular point of time .
Chhers,Take a look at Server Standard Reports. It has a few CPU usage oriented reports.
You can also track CPU usage by server-side tracing:
http://www.sqlusa.com/bestpractices/createtrace/
Glenn Berry's CPU usage query:
SELECT TOP(25) p.name AS [SP Name], qs.total_worker_time AS [TotalWorkerTime],
qs.total_worker_time/qs.execution_count AS [AvgWorkerTime], qs.execution_count,
ISNULL(qs.execution_count/DATEDIFF(Second, qs.cached_time, GETDATE()), 0) AS [Calls/Second],
qs.total_elapsed_time, qs.total_elapsed_time/qs.execution_count
AS [avg_elapsed_time], qs.cached_time
FROM sys.procedures AS p WITH (NOLOCK)
INNER JOIN sys.dm_exec_procedure_stats AS qs WITH (NOLOCK)
ON p.[object_id] = qs.[object_id]
WHERE qs.database_id = DB_ID()
ORDER BY qs.total_worker_time DESC OPTION (RECOMPILE);

What is a common cause for high sys CPU time and system faults on an Iplanet server?
Hi,
A newbie question...
I am benchmarking an application which uses Iplanet on Solaris (2X400mhz cpus). vmstat output follows.
Note the high sys time and relatively lower user mode time. Also relatively high system fault rate. Is this
normal? If not, common causes?
fyi - we are not running Java VM on this server.
I have TRUSS output showing kernal activity but dont want to post it here without some further guidance
on what if anything in it might be helpful.
Thanks!
Bernie

You can change the DB isolation level to Read uncommitted
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms378149(v=sql.110).aspx
or use WITH (NOLOCK)
I do use NOLOCK option for the dirty reads to avoid locks on the tables

How to find discoverer log files and CPU usage
Hi,
i have a report running very slow in prod. but runs fast in dev and qa.
**Where/how can i find the Log files generated after the report runs?**
**Also i wanted to see how i can find the CPU Usage**
i searched online for CPU usage... and found this --> ""For the CPU usage of these servlets, please navigate to the Discoverer application page from the OC4J_BI_Forms home page in the EM standalone console.""
can anyone tell me how to navigate to OC4J_BI_Forms home page in the EM standalone console?
Thanks!
gayatriHi gayathri,
This link would help i suppose
http://docs.huihoo.com/oracle/docs/B14099_19/bi.1012/b13918/maint.htm#i1025807
and http://docs.huihoo.com/oracle/docs/B14099_19/bi.1012/b13918/tshoot.htm#CHDHFJDE
Be careful,if not done without prior knowledge it would mess up.So mostly this job should be done by DBA of your company.They can log in as sysadministrator to get to "Enterprise Manager" and do as per the link

How to find out the JVM thread that is consuming high CPU
I am using WL 10.3, JRockit JVM on Linux. I have taken thread dumps. How to find out the JVM thread that is consuming high CPU?
I know how to map it Sun JVM on Solaris. I haven't done in on JRockit so far. Please advise.Check out some of Marcus Hirt's blog entries for details about how to use JRockit Mission Control. It's a very nice tool that should provide a lot of insight:

the top command show average of all cpu core sys% usage
when the one core sys% is 100%
the system are very slow .
e.g: when I create a database instance used for a long time . over 2 hours
but generally it will be done at most 1 hours or shorteris any type of OS virtualization involved in this environment? -
How to find out CPU and memory usage for an instance?
Hi DBA Gurus,
How to find out CPU usage and memory usage for an instance?
Any information is appreciated!
Thank you!
Robertyou can calculate cpu usage by adding fallowing three factors which you can get from v$sysstat
1. Parse CPU time : This represents the percentage of CPU time spent parsing SQL statements. Parse time CPU can be a strong indication that an application has not been well tuned. High parse time CPU usually indicates that the application may be spending too much time opening and closing cursors or is not using bind variables.
2. Recursive CPU time : Sometimes, to execute a SQL statement issued by a user, the Oracle Server must issue additional statements. Such statements are called recursive calls or recursive SQL statements. For example, if you insert a row into a table that does not have enough space to hold that row, the Oracle Server makes recursive calls to allocate the space dynamically if dictionary managed tablespaces are being used.
Recursive calls are also generated due to the inavailability of dictionary info in the dictionary cache, firing of database triggers, execution of DDL, execution of SQL within PL/SQL blocks, functions or stored procedures and enforcement of referential integrity constraints
3. Other CPU time : This represents the percentage of time spent looking for buffers, fetching rows or index keys, etc. Generally, \"Other\" CPU should represent the highest percentage of CPU time out of the total CPU time used.
total memory used you can calculate adding
total_agrigate_area+sga
memory usage on os level you can know by fallowing commands
vmstat 5 20 depending upon os -
Finding Current High-Consuming CPU SQLs
Hi All,
How do we find SQL's consuming most CPU at the current moment. If I find SQL's from V$SQLAREA and sort descending based on CPU_TIME, it may be idle sessions as CPU_TIME gives the cumulative cpu time. Current high-consuming SQL may not even figure on top if cumulative cpu time is less. I am interested in finding top 10 SQL's at the current moment. Is there a way we find the top consumers of CPU?
Thanks,
...you can use top,nmon or topass command at OS level to find out PID consuming maximum CPU and resources .. you can use this PID and qury against
v$sesson , V$process and v$SQL to find out user session and SQL been consuming max CPU time and resources.
select a.username , a.program , to_char(a.LOGON_TIME,'dd-mon-yy:hh24:mi'),c.sql_text from v$session a ,
v$process b , v$sql c where
a.paddr=b.addr and a.sql_id=c.sql_id and b.spid='you OS PID' ; -
How to find top 10 SQL statments which are consuming more cpu time.
hi all,
Is there any command or script to monitor the top 10 sql statments which are consuming more cpu time.
I know by using AWR REPORT we can find it, i want the command or script to find the top cpu utilization sql statments.

How to find High level water mark
Hi all,
How to find high level water mark of a table.
Thanks,
Bhanu Chander.Probably you mean High Water Mark.
select blocks from user_segments where segment_name='YOUR TABLE';
exec dbms_stats.gather_table_stats('YOU','YOUR TABLE')
select blocks from user_tables where table_name='YOUR TABLE';
subtract the last number from the first number. That is where your High Water Mark stands.
Kind regards
Uwe
http://uhesse.wordpress.com
Correction: The last number is where your HWM stands. The difference between the two numbers is the amount of blocks where no row has been yet :-)

How to find CPU and Memory Utilization
Hi,
How to find CPU and Memory Utilization of my application which is
running in solaris workstation.My application has a management console in which we need to update the cpu and memory periodically.
(Notr : Usage of JNI is restrcited)
Thnx and Rgds,
MohanThere is no CPU usage API in Java. You need some JNI code. For memory usage see the Runtime methods:
* Get information of memory usage: max, total, free and (available/used).
* <ul>
* <li>Max is the maximum amount of bytes the application can allocate (see also java options -Xmx). This value is fixed.
* If the application tries to allocate more memory than Max, an OutOfMemoryError is thrown.
* <li>Total is the amount of bytes currently allocated from the JVM for the application.
* This value just increases (and doesn't decrease) up to the value of Max depending on the applications memory
* requirements.
* <li>Free is the amount of memory that once was occupied by the application but is given back to the JVM. This value
* varies between 0 and Total.
* <li>The used amount of memory is the memory currently allocated by the application. This value is always less or equal
* to Total.
* <li>The available amount of memory is the maximum number of bytes that can be allocated by the application (Max - used).
* </ul>
* In brief: used <= total <= max
* <p>
* The JVM can allocate up to 64MB (be default) system memory for the application. If more is required, the JVM has to be started with the Xmx option
* (e.g. "java -Xmx128m" for 128 MB). The amount of currently allocated system memory is Total. As the JVM can't give back unallocated memory
* to the operating system, Total can just increase (up to Max).
* @return Memory info.
static public String getMemoryInfo() {
StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
sb.append("Used: ");
sb.append(toMemoryFormat(getUsedMemory()));
sb.append(", Available: ");
sb.append(toMemoryFormat(getAvailableMemory()));
sb.append(" (Max: ");
sb.append(toMemoryFormat(Runtime.getRuntime().maxMemory()));
sb.append(", Total: ");
sb.append(toMemoryFormat(Runtime.getRuntime().totalMemory()));
sb.append(", Free: ");
sb.append(toMemoryFormat(Runtime.getRuntime().freeMemory()));
sb.append(")");
return sb.toString();
}//getMemoryInfo() -
