How to find the day of the week ?

Hi,
I want to find the day of the current date. Can you please let me know as to how to get the same ?
My code is like :
java.util.Date date = new java.util.Date();
// Here i need to use a method to retrive the day of this date
Your early input is appreciated.
Regards

Use a java.util.GregorianCalendar:
GregorianCalendar calendar = new GregorianCalendar();
System.out.println("DAY_OF_WEEK: " + calendar.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK));

  • How to find first day of the year

    Big picture: trying to determine how many pay periods are left in the year. There are 52 weeks in a year, and our company pay out each week.
    The first pay week of the year always starts on a Friday. So If Janurary 1 is a friday, then the 1st week of pay period starts that week. If Jan 1 is a Thursday, then the first pay week will start on Janurary 2.
    I need to figure out what day the first day of any year it is. By day, i mean Mon, Tue, Wed, Thur, Fri, Sat, or Sun.
    Then when I figure out what day it is, i will write an if/then statement saying if Jan 1 is a monday, then add 4 days to that date and that will be the first day of a pay period.
    Then when i figure out the first day of the first week, I wanted to add 7 days to create week2, week3.... week 52.
    Then take todays date and if it was between week x and week y, then it would determine that z many pay periods are left...
    is this the best way to go about this? anything easier?

    You can use the getDay method of a Date object to determine the day of the week. Any decent JavaScript reference will have more information.

  • How to find a day in the next 27 days

    Hi,
    How to find a date = 'Wednesday" in the next 27 days? The below script doesnt work. Could anyone tell me what is the problem with this code? I suspect that the WHERE clause that make the error!
    SELECT TO_DATE(SYSDATE+ROWNUM, 'DD-MON-YY')
    FROM DUAL CONNECT BY ROWNUM <= 27
    WHERE TO_CHAR(DAY, 'DAY') = 'SUNDAY'

    Why it doesn't work for the other days? When i tried to change the days other than wednesday. it return nothing.
    Reason why Justin's code does not work for other days is date format mask DAY returns day blank padded to 9 characters which is the longest day name which, yes you guessed right, is WEDNESDAY. You either need to blank pad or use format modifier FM:
    SQL> select *
      2    from (SELECT TO_DATE(SYSDATE+ROWNUM, 'DD-MON-YY') dt
      3            FROM DUAL CONNECT BY ROWNUM <= 27)

    Hi ,
    You can using the following peice of code to get the Day of a Week for the given date :
    Calendar now = Calendar.getInstance();
    System.out.println("Current date : " + (now.get(Calendar.MONTH) + 1)
         + "-" + now.get(Calendar.DATE) + "-" + now.get(Calendar.YEAR));
    //create an array of days
    //Day_OF_WEEK starts from 1 while array index starts from 0
    String[] strDays = new String[]{"Sunday",  "Monday", "Tuesday", "Wednesday",  "Thusday",   "Friday",  "Saturday" };
    String day_of_week = strDays[now.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK) - 1];
    System.out.println("Current day is : " + strDays[now.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK) - 1]  );

  • How to print the day of the week

    Hi,
    How to print the day of the week for the particular date
    Regards,
    Ahamad

    Or the JSTL <fmt:formatDate> tag...
    Or, or, or...What about getting an instance of java.util.Calendar, invoking toString(), and then parsing the resultant string to find the day of the week? ;-)

  • How do you change the day of the week on your calender starts on

    How do you change the day of the week your calender starts on??

    You would have to change the region settings to a country whose formatting starts the week on the day you like:

  • How can I get the day of the week to display in ical5?

    I can only see the date, e.g. 20, 21, 22 but not the day of the week, e.g. 20 Wednesday, 21 Thursday. How do change this view?  Thank you

    You need to create a stringwriter, wrap it in a printwriter, then print to the printwriter, then convert the stringwriter to a string.
    Here's an example:
    StringWriter sw = new java.io.StringWriter();
    PrintWriter pw = new java.io.PrintWriter(sw);
    e.printStackTrace(pw);
    String strError = sw.toString();
    I hope this works. I didn't test the above code. I don't think I'm leaving anything out, but it's been a while since I've done it. Either way, it should get you on the right track to get what you need.
    Hope that helps.

  • How to display the day of the week?

    I can use the TODAY() function to display today's date, and I can format the cell with inspector to manipulate how to show the date, but how can I show only what the DAY of the week it currently is?

    The problem with these two responses is that they are language dependant.
    It would be useful to add a WEKDAYNAME() function which will return names according to the language in use.
    Here is a workaround:
    =LEFT(B,SEARCH(" ",B)-1)
    It just assumes that B contains a date with dayname at the beginning.

  • Cannot turn on "Show the day of the week" option in Date & Time

    OS X Lion turns "Show the day of the week" option off each time I open that preference pane and after every reboot. My region in Formats tab of Language & Text preference pane is set to "Russia (Russian)". I've noticed that the problem doesn't appear when region is set to US (I didn't try others). Is there any known workaround, except changing my region preference?

    Me too.
    And I have a workaround, until Фззду fixes it finally:
    1) Go to the ~/Library/Preferences, locate a file named com.apple.menuextra.clock.plist, open it with Plist editor (comes with XCode) or just with TextEdit.
    2) There's DateFormat key in it, change it to "EEE H:mm", save the file.
    3) Now Cmd-I (right click - Get info) on that file in Finder, and check option named "Locked" ("Защита").
    System Preferences' Date & Time pane sets the aforementioned DateFormat to "ccc H:mm" when you tick the "Show the day of the week" option, while in Russian locale. And in English it becomes "EEE H:mm". The problem is that Sys.pref and even SystemUIServer (that shows the menu) processes somehow do not like the former value and erase it. After every relaunch of SystemUIServer (after reboot or being killed) tries to change "EEE" to "ccc" again (which would be cleared to nothing next time), that is why you have to lock the plist file.

  • How to remove "all day" as the default setting in iCal?

    How to remove "all day" as the default setting in iCal? The iCloud calendar works by double-clicking but the local behaves differently.

    Hello Valerie,
    the default - "all day" or "time based" - depends on the view in iCal. In month view the default is "all day",
    in week view or day view it is a time interval, if you use "File -> New Event". If you add the event by double clicking into the calendar, it will depend on the section you are clicking - in the all day section you will add an all-day event, in the time-grid you will enter an event with start-end time.

  • Day of the week and the day of the month out of sync

    I'm not sure this is the right forum to post this, so I apologize in advance.
    When I open iCal on my iPhone 4 in day view I see Oct 29 with a W for Wednesday on top of it although below the days of the month it reads: Tuesday, October 29, 2013.
    Is anyone experiencing this problem? Any solution?
    TIA

    Thanks for replying, ChrisJ4203. It's defintely a problem with Brazilian users. Here's a workaround a countryman posted:
    I've managed to fix it:
    Go to Settings / Mail Contacts and Calendars / Start the week on
    Change from Sunday to Monday.
    It appears people in Brazil are the only ones affected.
    It's a good work-around  while apple does not fix this bug.
