How to finding zero pionts of a waveform?

Hellow,
I am developing a programme, its output values observed from the waveform chart should be a Sinusoidal wave, but the exact function/expression is unknown. I would like to detect the zero point of the output sinusoidal waveform.
thanks a lot!
ps, I developed the programme in the constrol&simulation loop and I tried to extract the tone information like amp &freq from the outout but did not work...
Best regards,
Floyd

Hellow, thanks for your reply!
As to the zero points, I just need two of them. I also noticed there won't be exactly zero and thought abour linear interpolation, but I don't know how to implement it,
There is no noise and just a pure sinusoidal waveform. Actually I would like to extract the frequency and amp info from the waveform, however extract tone information VI seems not working in control and simulation loop. Finding zero points and then calculate the period and finally get frequency is just am alternative.
I attached an example, in which I generated an sine wave with a "sine signal" VI, but in my programme the sinewave is actually unkonwn.
Best Regards,
Floyd

    If the spreadsheet file is a text file, you could use the string functions to search for the presence of zeros.  The details would depend heavily on the format in which the data is saved.
    For working with numeric values another caution is in order.  In this case it probably would work to use the Is Equal to Zero comparison primitive, but remember that in general equality comparisons on floating point numbers are not a good idea due to the finite representation in binary and roundoff errors after calculations.  Adapting Matt Bradley's suggestion you might test whether the absolute value is less than some tolerance, such as 1e-6, rather than zero.

    Lynn- good point! but use abs val and compare to the machine epsilon  (that "little e" constant on the numeric>constants sub-palette is the smallest value that the computer can represent as a dbl)

  • How to find Negative number

    can any one pls tell me how to find negative number ?
    Thanks

    1. One easy method is to look for the giveaway dash in front of the number, e.g. "-1" is a negative number, given the "-" instead of the "1."
    2. Negative numbers can also sneakily be found by multiplying i by itself: i^2^ is a negative number.
    3. Negative numbers can hide in the exponent of e as complex numbers. e.g. e^i*pi^ is a negative number.
    4. If we're referring to Java here, perhaps the following could be of some use:
    final int ZERO = 0;
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    int a = 3;
    int b = -13;
    System.out.println(a + " is negative? " + lessThanZero(a));
    System.out.println(b + " is negative? " + lessThanZero(b));
    boolean lessThanZero(int n) {
    return n < 0;
    }

  • How to find colums in CLOB variable and get this colums value to update col

    Question
    How to find colums in CLOB variable and get this colums value to update colum of oracle database table
    How my work will go
    Step-1 - I am creating XML FIle which is based on code that we discused before-
    Its developing xml file with data in <...inputelement> as u can see in my xml but in <..output> Element of xml its just have all column for exampe <itemoutput>
    <FLD NM = "ABC"> 0 </FLD>
    <FLD NM = "XYZ:> </FLD> --- for varchar2
    </itemoutput>
    In 1st stage i am just generating <..INPUT> with its colums and real value from database and <..output> elements will go zero value but with colums name.
    Note. I create temp table will all COLUMN which u can see in both in <..ITEMINPUT> and <..ITEMOUTPUT>
    Step2.. After Generaing my xml i want to convert my xml data into CLOB not in a file. so clob will go to the VENDOR
    STEP3.
    I will Recieved again xml data in CLOB from the vendo in <.OUTPUT> ELEMents
    for example
    I send this format
    <itemoutput>
    <FLD NM = "ABC"> 0 </FLD>
    <FLD NM = "XYZ:> </FLD> --- for varchar2
    </itemoutput>
    And i will receive it
    <itemoutput>
    <FLD NM = "ABC VALUE"> 2 </FLD>
    <FLD NM = "XYZ TYPE:> SUV</FLD> --- for varchar2
    </itemoutput>
    So will take this output valu from xml clob and will update my staging table .
    Which have the same colum name as its look in xml clob.
    Step- 4. I will take this value from staging table and update my original oracle database table. which i send you before.
    But u leave this step becaue you dont know the staging table colum maping with original table.
    I think now you understand
    Please feed back
    monriz

    here is my xml..
    I want to extract <..output> elements which enclosed with " " and its values from this xml file. please any body have any idea. please tell me
    Thanks

  • How to find out that the card in a given NIDAQ slot is a DSA card?

    In the description of DAQ_Op(...) function in the traditional NIDAQ function reference one reads:
    "buffer" is an integer array. "buffer" has a length equal to or greater than count.
    When DAQ_Op returns with an error number equal to zero, buffer contains the acquired data.
    For DSA devices, buffer should be an array of i32. These devices return the data
    in a 32-bit format in which the data bits are in the most significant bits.
    Question 1: How to find out programmatically that the card in a given NIDAQ slot is a DSA card?
    Question 2: How many MSB carry the information? How do I find out bit-ness of the card (programmatically)?
    The obvious solution to create and keep updated the table/fil
    e with the data for all existing DAQ cards is unacceptable. This could be maintained by NI itself, but not by 3rd party developpers, like me.

    Bryan, thanks for your answer.
    I hope that my NIDAQ-wish-list will not only reach NIDAQ developers but some of it will be implemented in the next versions of NIDAQ.
    I should say that I am quite pessimistic because I was sending similar requests via German support few YEARS ago and I am still even do not know whether they reached developers or not. Even if yes, the present NIDAQ still does not have these functions and this means that NI takes 2..4 years to react on the feedback.
    At the moment I have no choice, and I do maintain self-made info file (nidaq.ini). But beleive me, it is a pain in the @ss to scan help files and manuals of the DAQ cards which I've never seen just to include info in nidaq.ini. And when my customers of a brand new NIDAQ ca
    rd call and wonder why the card is not reacognized by my application correctly, I tell to them that this is basically fault of NI. Because NI provides no way to get card info. I am doing my best analysing error codes, but it does not help in all cases. Sorry, guys, but you left no choice to me.
    As for NIDAQmx, this is not a solution either. I am not going to rewrite my existing and working rather big application. It could be a good suggestion for those who just starts developing a new applications from the scratch, but not for those who almost finished it. Even for those who begin now, NIDAQmx may not be a good choice, because, as I saw in this forum, it does not support all cards that are supported by NIDAQ. It also looks like that instead of improoving, developing and fixing NIDAQ, NI dicided to change API completely. It is not yet clear to me whether NIDAQmx is supposed to substitute NIDAQ in the future or not. If not, I would concentrate on improoving trad. NIDAQ. If yes, it wou
    ld be a disaster for many developers. :-(
    Anyway, I hope that the interaction between NIDAQ team and application developpers will be improoved, and we will see some results of this feedback.

  • How to find the file versions in Oracle applications?

    In FCP 7, you can zoom into audio waveforms for precise edits. In FCP X, there seems to be a fairly coarse resolution to how far you can zoom into audio waveforms. I rely extensively on being able to see where subtle aspirants start and end, but I can't see the audio waveforms very clearly, no matter how far I enlarge the clips.
    Is there some hidden window or command that I'm missing?

    tonypatti wrote:
    I'm assuming you mean in the timeline. So you trim your clips in the timeline, and not in the clips window? I've noticed there is no Viewer window, as in FCP 7, and I used to refine my clips in that window, setting in and out points with simple keystrokes. Is this how we do it in X? In the Timeline window?
    It depends on my needs... Each event library-clip has its own timeline too...
    All you need to do is right-click the clip in the event library and select "Open in Timeline"
    There you can trim the audio or clip with much greater precision than in the event library itself...
    In FCPx -- EACH clip in the event library is contained within its own mini-project... That is why you can "open" it in its own timeline... The event library is so powerful in this way. You could even select a clip and hit "Open in Timeline" and drag another clip into that.... That would automatically turn the clip into a compound clip (which is essentially a project)... the possibilities are endless... And so is the zoom ;-)))) If you do it this way !
    PS -- You can create a short key for "open in timeline" should you find yourself annoyed with right-clicking all the time
    PPS -- You state "no viewer window".... As of 10.0.7 FCPx has TWO viewers.. One for events and one for the project... Hit ctrl+command + 3 to show/hide it...
    You should take your time with the app and NOT look at it as if it was FCP7
    Also the user guide is very well written !

  • How to find the velocity of an incremental encoder

    , i'm using RE22I encoder which can give upto 8192 counts per revolution, i have A,B,Z signals I'm using an fpga as a controller please help me.
    how to find velocity of the encoder using these signals i'm having a sysytem clock in the fpga will it be useful.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Start by looking at the information on Wikipedia on Rotary Encoders and an NI white paper on encoders.  These articles will give you a basic understanding of the encoder and the signals it produces.
    With appropriate decoding you can get the direction and a pulse each of the 8192 points on your encoder.  If the shaft can reverse direction (even vibration over a single point while mnearly stationary), the full decoding should be used.  If the data is only of interest while the shaft is rotating in one direction and the speed does not go near zero, a simpler decoding can be used.  Decoding a quadrature encoder is a good way to learn how to use a state machine.  The A and B signals can exist in only four possible combinations, but the possible transitions make things interesting.
    Defining the deconding is a purely logical exercise and coding it in LabVIEW as a state machine is straightforward.  There are examples, Desing Patterns, or Project Templates (depending on your LV version) which come with LV to help you get started.
    USing the A and B channels you can update your velocity calculation 8192 times per revolution.  Using Z you only get one update per revolution. Which you use may depend on your application.  The Z pulse also is useful to define a position reference for phase angle measurements.

  • How to find the elements of an array

    You mean x.length?<pbs>
    Depends upon your interpretation of "number of elements in the array"
    int[] numbers = new int[10];
    numbers[0] = 42;
    numbers[1] = 666;Number of elements in the array is 2 not 10.
    </pbs>If you used something other than a primitive type for the array element type you could have a case. A value of integer zero for the other elements is still a value, so there are indeed 10 elements there.Even if it were not primitive, every element would have a value. That value would either be null or a reference.

  • How to find the timing in audio

    how to find starting and ending time of each word in the audio

    Yes, of course.  I believe that we understand that you're working on a job that requires you to synchronize some sort of an automation to a vocal narration that, we can only assume, will be included in the final movie/video.  We understand that you are seeking the most efficient way to be effective.  I sketched at least the highlights of The Best Way that I have discovered (so far) and another fine person (adninjastrator) has given you His Best Shot.
    I was interested enough in the possibility of my finding a better way to do my work ( which is also rather long and troubling ) that I took the time to carefully study the material he presented.  Have you also taking the time to look at it?
    Like I said above, what I gave you before was only the tiniest highlight of what I do.  I'll now refer you to a more extended description of it that I made in response to another forum participant's question.  It is found here : voice synchronization with text(words) in flash    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/900695?tstart=0
    There are some inherent difficulties that we all face in this kind of work.  One of them is that, when we are speaking naturally, there are many places in our speech where there is no clear break between the words, like the one you can see in the "mixdown" example that I provided.  The only automated way of which I am acquainted that even begins to crack that tough nut a problem is the voice recognition software, such as Dragon NaturallySpeaking by Nuance.  It, however, is not intended to give us what we need for our current projects.  I would expect, however, that if you're made out of big time money and have, say, fifty grand available, you might approach the Nuance people and ask them to adapt their Very Fine Tool to greatly assist us in the work that we're doing.  ( By the way, I am speaking this into Dragon now and it is typing for me. )
    I have developed a way by which I present written text as it is being heard in the narration.  There are places in which the words are distinct and are separated by pauses, and there are times in which only phrases or clusters of words are separated by silent periods.  As you will discover by reading the thread to which I referred earlier, the way I present the written text is by first covering each word or phrase of it with an opaque rectangle whose color matches the background color, then by smoothly changing its opacity from 100% to 0% at the appropriate time.  In much of the work that I did earlier, before I learned better methods, my chunks of text presentation were quite large, sometimes entire lines at a time.  In the new work that I'm now doing, most of it will be presented one word at a time.  That is the case in the two examples will show you next.
    Just a few technical details :  I'm running at thirty frames per second, using classic tweens, using an easing in value of -100 and an easing out value of +100.  Many of my transitions are about eighty frames long.  Some are lot longer.  Here is a little pic showing two sentences being displayed :
    These next two pics show the display of a twelve word sentence, smoothly presented.
    There was a small pause after the seventh word, and the ending of the tweens for those players allows those words to be fully displayed while the last five are still getting going.
    In the methods that were suggested by adninjastrator, you could obtain an amplitude graph of either just the overall volume of any waveform, or if you wanted to get really fancy, could do the same thing from only a portion of the frequency spectrum of the waveform.  The method that I showed you earlier provides the first of those possible results directly and immediately.  The second approach that adninjastrator presented is probably not necessary for either the work that you or I or vplusvw are doing.
    You say that your audio length is big.  That is not a surprise.  Things Take Time.  Big and valuable and important things often take a lot of time.  You say you don't want to do it manually.  We understand, from our own experience, that life is difficult and that we don't want to make it any harder than is necessary.
    We have no way of knowing the nature of your project or how important it is to you.  You could tell us a little about the first part, but only you can decide the second one.  The work that I'm doing is terribly important to me.  The work being pursued by  vplusvw appears to be of value to that fine person.
    Two of us have tried to help.  We've given you our best shot.  Our methods, or some related version of them, might be the better way that you seek.  There is an eternal, universal truth, however.  There is no Royal Road to knowledge.  In so many important pursuits in life, there is no Easy Way.  You have asked for the better way.  I have given you the best way I know.  I am willing to explain it in greater detail if that would appear to be of some value to you.
    There simply was No Easy Way to build either the Golden Gate Bridge, the Transcontinental Railway, or the Hoover Dam.  There is No Easy Way to do the work that I am doing.  There is probably No Easy Way for you to do the work that you want to do.  If it gets done at all, let along done well, there will certainly be some Serious Tediousness involved.  That is for sure.
    Back over to you.

  • Discoverer Report: How to find Business Area name from Report Name.

    Hi
    I opened a report in Disco Desktop 4 -> Resonsibiolity --> Report Name.
    So I know Report name but don’t know which Business Area it belongs to.
    How to find Business Area Name from Report Name?
    Cheers
    Vijay

    Hi,
    There is no relationship between reports and business areas. Each report can be built from many folders. Each folder can be in many business areas.
    However you can try the following SQL which may give you the result you want for an v5 EUL. You will have to modify for Discoverer 4 EUL:
    select distinct doc_name, obj.obj_name folder_name, bas.ba_name
    from eul_us.eul5_documents doc
    , eul_us.eul5_elem_xrefs xref
    , eul_us.eul5_expressions exp
    , eul_us.eul5_objs obj
    , eul_us.eul5_ba_obj_links bol
    , eul_us.eul5_bas bas
    where xref.ex_from_id = doc.doc_id
    and doc.doc_name = &your_report
    and xref.ex_to_id = exp.exp_id
    and obj.obj_id = exp.it_obj_id
    and bol.bol_obj_id = obj.obj_id
    and bas.ba_id = bol.bol_ba_id
